Not bad for a car dealership. They don't haggle over price so what's on the window is what you pay. This means that you won't get the best price on the car but you also don't have to worry about aggressive salesman. In the end, we purchased a used car that we're very happy with at a pretty good price. They even bought ours for a decent price. The two salesman that we worked with, Sarge and Allen, were very friendly. They offer a three-day payoff that allows you to sign-and-drive. You basically agree to finance through them and bring a check within three days from another institution and they cancel out the original loan paperwork with no extra cost. I bought a used Toyota at CarMax yesterday- LOVED the buying experience there and will go back next time I need a car! No-hassle, no-haggle pricing! Salesman applied no pressure at all, took his time with me and made it easy. Financing was a breeze- with the salesman, no high pressure suit pushing you into overpriced extras. Very pleasant experience overall and would recommend them to anyone. They made some money off me, but the sale price of my vehicle was only about 10% above the KBB so felt like I got a good deal. If able to give negative stars would give -5 ... I will never again buy a car from here. Paid to have vehicle shipped to us, multiple issues with it. Tires near balding... ( firestone said needs replaced immediately) car max said still have half tire life left... had to buy new tires with in weeks of purchase... now the stereo is stuck on back up camera with no picture and other issues ... car max will not cover... can submit to warranty but will be out of pocket expense again.... NEVER AGAIN.... The inspection that they do any lay person can do it, because major items are missed and put off until after the 30 day warranty period..... read more

I've gotten 2 cars from CarMax and they deliver what they promise. I don't like shopping and despise haggling. I knew what I wanted, knew what I would pay and just had to find the car that met my criteria. Super easy. My husband has had his car for 5 years, no problems. I've had mine for a few months, still performing as expected. I can't review the financial aspect of it except their '3 for free' financing (they basically offer you a float loan for 3 business days until you provide payment from your chosen lender) which is exactly as advertised, no hidden fees. I'm not a car person; I'm just a normal lady who doesn't want to feel like I was tricked into spending more money than was agreed upon. I believe that's like most people, so I'm giving 5 stars basically for the honesty and directness of the process. read more

I just want to start off this review that the salesperson I had the first time around (I believe his name was mike) was not in fault at all, nor was the salesperson the second time around (Al). I had a great first experience when I came into Carmax on October 13. Mike was very helpful and friendly. I'm 19 and this is the first car I was buying from a dealership. Very stressful as it is, but was manageable with Mike. After this my experience was.. complicated and disappointing. After 30 days I went to get my plates and couldnt. There was no nebraska title in their system. I was sold a vehicle that had a bad title (there wasnt a lein release from a previous state). I called carmax immediately when they opened. I was told that I could drive the car with expired plates until the issue was resolved (which the timeframe was unknown could be weeks or over a month) and any tickets accrued would be covered by carmax OR I could bring the car back and get a new one in place. I didnt like the idea of driving a car that according to the Uniform Commercial Code I had no right to because Carmax was in breach of contract of providing the title. I ultimately left work to bring my car to carmax to see about getting different vehicle, however the only possible options had ripped seats, or the battery didnt start, or it just wasnt something I liked. I was only suppose to be gone from work for a short time. I ended up being there for over 3 and a half hours. At that point I requested a loaner vehicle because I needed to be at work. The next day I called out of my second job to be there that night and sort this all out. I ended up having to return the loaner car i was in because it was suppose to be sold but they accidentally gave it to me as a loaner. I was told a bunch of excuses about my vehicle and kept being told "thank you for your patience" from every person that heard the situation. I was also told "we will make the sale right." Apparently there was turnover and this should have been caught and this vehicle should have never been on the lot. Lee had directed me to Al. Al was very friendly and helped me feel better about this mess I was put in do to a mistake on carmax's end. He was very knowledgeable and tried to make this whole transition move in a good direction. We found me a new vehcile that had to be transferred in to this location. It would take about a week. I stayed in a loaner vehicle while my previous car was kept in a unsercured area of the carmax lot and the keys in possession of carmax. The car arrived on Nov 20. Which was a tuesday. It was an out of state vehicle meaning it needed to be vin checked. This occurs mondays, wednesdays, and fridays. I was ensured by elliot in the business office that this would be done before I came to get my vehicle. It wasnt. I have to do this myself now, it may not seem like a big deal, but after all the stress ive already dealt with it was. I spent 5 hours there on friday, november 23rd. 5 hours.. there was problems with refunding my old vehicle, getting my new vehicle, waiting for my new vehicle to be ready for me to drive. I had pizza delivered to my friend and I because we were there so long and got very hungry. I finally got the vehicle and was ready to drive off. Come to find out there isnt a coin tray in the new vehicle. Just little things kept making this whole situation frustrating. My car insurance went up due to it being a year newer car. Everything would have been great if I could have just gotten my plates for the first vehicle. I get mistakes happen, but having to deal with everything I did, especially the first time buying a car through a dealership. Overall im just frustrated and disappointed. Great great great customer service, Bob is the Best..yes that's his real name, ask for him, he got my roommate and her mother into cars a 07 and 10, so fairly new, roommate had purchased a car from Chicago so had to wait for the car to be shipped, once they received the car they noticed the title was incorrect so they had to send it back to Chicago...none the less there was a lot of back in forth, but Car Max being the great company they are gave her loaner cars, which they paid the gas for, sweeeeeeeeetttttt.....nice loaner cars by the way...anywayz the customer service is just great there, they really take care of you. read more

I brought my car in to see how much they would buy it for. The kept insisting all the doors had been repainted, which they hadn't, and lowered the price drastically to well below Kelly blue book dealer trade in value. This is a very dishonest dealing. I was also surprised at how overpriced they're high mileage cars were. I don't know if they do this to everyone or just were sexist enough to think that because I'm a woman I wouldn't know better. My husband and I discussed our need for rapid processing of paperwork due to a business trip upcoming. We were guaranteed that the process would be complete in 7 days. Whenever we called, we got different responses. After giving our business address twice, the paperwork was not sent. When it was sent after the 3rd phone call, it was missing documentation. Upon entry into the Carmax, they could not find the paperwork until right before we had to leave again. We were unable to utilize the check to the DMV for the sales tax as discussed so we had to pay 900 out of pocket and multiple late fees related to the delay in registration. We drove over 1000 miles and waited 4 months and process of registering the car is still not complete. So much for 7 days. read more

I had a car transferred from Missouri to Omaha, NE. The car was exactly what I wanted! The only part of the process I was unhappy with was trading in my current car. They gave me way below the market value. I even walked out at one point. I eventually went back strictly cause they had the car I wanted and I couldn't find it at any other dealer. If you have to trade in a vehicle I suggest you privately sell it. As for the car I bought from Carmax, I absolutely love it!! read more

Don't go to Carmax. They are a bunch of con artists. I took my car there to get an appraisal and to look at minivans, since we need a larger vehicle. The appraisal offer was so much lower than blue book trade in value it was laughable. At first the sales person would not show ne any vans on the lot; kept talking about having the ability to deliver vehicles from around the country. Finally I was shown three vans on the computer. It took a lot of convincing to be allowed to see them on the lot. When we finally got out there the best one was a Ford that I wasn't shown. It was like they didn't want to show it to me. Honestly all of their vans were former rental vehicles. We conveniently skipped over that part when showing me the vehicle histories. And with questionable histories the vans were severely overpriced. I am glad I did my homework ahead of time. read more

Buying the car was hassle free. Getting an upgrade was a disaster. Was told it was a 3 hour process to get navigation system installed and had an appointment. Show up for early afternoon appointment and was to it wouldn't be ready until late next day. Then told needed to order system and another day. Then told upgrade was compatible although their own system said it was and another day delay while they still had the vehicle. Next day was told they have to order the compatible system another two days delay. They have had the vehicle for a week now just to install a system that I was told took 3 hours. Do not buy from this place. it was the worst experience I have ever had. the salesman didn't listen and gave me attitude when I questioned him. he tried to double charge me for an accessory and the manager was a joke. He didn't step in to help just kept saying oh I'm sorry. I ended up finishing with another salesman. I thought they had a good reputation but I don't think that includes the Omaha, NE location. I should of trusted my instincts and walked away but then I would of been out what I paid to have the car transferred. I hope I can save you from making the same mistake as me. We had a extra car that we didn't need and didn't want to go through the hassle of selling it ourselves. We went to CarMax and they gave us a fair price, realizing that they pay you a true wholesale price not some inflated "trade-in" price which most dealers give you when you're buying a car from them. We were in and out in less than than 30 minutes. My driveway no longer has a heap sitting in it and my neighbors are probably as happy as we are about that. The check is in the bank and I'd go back to here to buy a used car if I needed one. The thing that really impressed me was how well they explain how they will appraise your car. Steve, the person who assisted us, and Kit, the appraiser, both did a great job of ensuring we understood how they arrived at their offer. Great work on their part. read more

They were great to work with. The price you see on the window is a fair price that is locked in. It's no hassle pricing. I would buy from them again. The only thing I didn't like is the trade in. They take NADA pricing and pricing of what they would get on the car auction and average it together. My vehicle that I was going to trade in retailed for $10,300. Trade in was $7,500. They offered me $4,000. I told them to forget it because that wouldn't of paid off the loan I still had on it. I sold it myself for $7,000. If looking to buy a car straight out, they are great at that. They even added in the tax and licensing to the loan for me. read more

I hate car dealerships. I've put off buying a new car for years simply to avoid used car salespeople. I had been to a couple dealerships in town and was put through the usual high pressure sales routines. I was going to be stuck with a car that I didn't want, pay too much or have to argue for the car I wanted so I finally just walked out of both. I went to Carmax because their advertising says they are hassle free, not that I believed it. Prior to going I went online and filled out the pre-approval forms. I was approved so I thought I'd start getting calls about "when can you come in?" I was surprised at the response that I received. I was sent a polite email saying that Nadia would be helping me and that if there was any information I needed to feel free to ask. A couple days later I was sent another email that basically asked if there was anything more I needed. That was it, that was "high pressure" CarMax style. After not being pushed to come in I went to the store and asked if I could look at 4 different kinds of cars. I wanted to see which one I liked the best before getting into the process of buying one. Rosario greeted me at the door and when I told him that I was not buying a car today he asked very nicely how he could help me. He didn't blow me off and look for someone to "sell". I explained I wanted to look at 4 different cars to see what I liked and he spent the next hour showing me the cars without once pressuring me to test drive, reserve, put something down to hold it or any of the other games that salespeople do. I told him when I came in I was working with Nadia. During our conversation I asked him, What if I don't like Nadia expecting him to immediately try to take the sale, if there was one. Boy was I surprised when he answered. His words, "I can't imagine that, Nadia is great." It was like finding a Unicorn, only I had found something even rarer, a used car salesman with ethics. He answered all my questions and when I left I was thinking about how I didn't feel lousy after going there. I also thought it was a trick. That the other shoe was going to drop. After deciding on a car I contacted Nadia and she was the same as Rosario, polite, no games and very informative about the car. I ended up buying the car that night. The paperwork process was as easy as it gets with the "back room" people being just as nice and friendly as Nadia. No last minute surprises and very willing to go over everything with me and explain anything I didn't understand. When I drove off the lot in my new car I did not feel like I had been taken, swindled or ripped-off. There was no buyer remorse. Buying a car should be fun and exciting, While I was signing the paperwork, Nadia went out and made sure the car was clean and then put a big bow on it. When she took me out to get in my new car, there it was all shiny and clean with a big bow. Maybe that is corny but I'll tell you this, it felt great. She offered to take pictures of me with my new car and then showed me how stuff like keyless entry and remote start works. Nadia and everyone else at CarMax made buying a used car a joy. I've had the car for maybe 3 weeks now. I love it. I don't write reviews but Nadia, Rosario and CarMax deserve all the praise I can heap on them. I have now purchased 3 cars from Carmax. The first car was a fair price and a good car. Just what I wanted. The second car ( a truck really) was a fair price and a solid engine but the body had some rust that wasn't taken care of bit I was still happy. Unfortunately the third and most recent of the cars I have purchased was a terrible experience. Let me be clear that the car itself is perfect. Great car, solid engine. But everything else about the experience was terrible. Let me explain. First I have noticed that the prices on many of the vehicles at Carmax are significantly higher than they used to be in relation to other used car dealerships. Granted you have to deal the price down at the other dealerships. But the cars are as good and you can get a better price. Second the sales person I worked with initially was the worst I had ever dealt with in 40 years of buying cars. This salesperson exemplified why people have a distrust of many salespeople in this industry. My past experience has been great and i have never run into the stereotypical car salesperson until this time. Thirdly the car took forever to come in and become ready for test driving. Finally when I asked for the Carmax sticker to be removed from the car it took three explicit requests and when they finally did it they chipped the paint off and then " repaired" it by just covering it over with whatever paint they could find to match it. I am completely done with Carmax and would suggest all to seek better service and better prices elsewhere. read more
