My wife owned 2 cars, both of which were long in the tooth and it was time to bite the bullet and replace them. I did a lot of research using the Internet, Consumer Report, cars.com, KBB.com, Edmonds.com, the CarMax app, and a bunch of other tools before I ever walked into this place. Using the CarMax app to identify specific vehicles I was interested in, I knew the prices, the mileage, the features, and the sources of the vehicles I wanted to take a look at and test drive. One vehicle was at the CarMax location in Turnersville, NJ location. As we hat some other business in South Jersey, we arranged to see the car there through the Newark facility. In Turnersville, we drove the specific vehicle we had identified online and decided to purchase it. We also test drove several other cars in our price range. We decided that we wanted to take a look at a model that had 12,000 miles on it located in Maryland. We arranged to have the Turnersville vehicle transported to Newark, De at no additional cost. The Maryland car cost us $100.00 to transport to Newark. Our sales consultant in Newark, JJ, kept us informed all along the way. A few days later when the Turnersville vehicle arrived, JJ contacted us and we went for another test drive and cemented our decision to finalize the purchase. The Maryland car had not arrived yet. When it did, we test drove it and again decided to finalize the purchase. JJ and the other people we encountered at CarMax both in Newark and Turnersville were all very pleasant to deal with. We felt no pressure to purchase anything one way or the other. The facilities were clean and neat. If we wanted to be left alone to peruse either lot for any other vehicles that interested us, we indicated that to the salesperson and they left us be. The whole experience was very pleasant without flimflammery or rigamarole negotiating a price or monthly payments. We traded in one of our cars and they gave us a price that was consistent with Kelley Blue Book's estimate of trade in value. In contrast to some of the negative Yelp reviews I have no complaints regarding my CarMax experience or purchases. I haven't had any problems with either vehicle. When we received both vehicles, they were clean with full tanks of gas. I did not detect any sloppy service issues. I have not had to take either car back to CarMax for service so I can't speak to the quality of that department. In sum, if I needed another car tomorrow, I would go back to CarMax. read more

Carmax is a very unique car dealership because it offers a very nice variety of car makes and models. However they are just like any other car dealer in the sense that they brown nose you up until the sale is made, then they are free to treat you like dirt through processes such as inspection reimbursement and processing your tags. Be careful of their "no haggle" pricing as well, that is just a way for them to rip you off after they over pay at auction (most of their cars are way over Kelly blue book). I know they are making money off of the trade ins because they gave me 11,500 for mine and are selling it for 16,995 on their site. read more

I purchased a Mercedes here. Low miles and a quick closing time on the deal, the only reason for two stars. I immediately driving of the lot there were problems that should have been picked up by carmax before the car was sold. The tour pressures were off. So my first stop was the gas station to adjust the pressures. Then the check tail light indicator came on. I checked and a tail light was out so my second stop was to buy a new bulb to replace the broken one. The next day it was raining so I turned on the wipers. The driver's side did not work. Also, on come the check engine light so I took the car to an independent dealer to check the problem. The diagnostics came beck as a bad oxygen sensor. So driving home I went to plug in my iPhone to charge it. The USB port was broken. I called carmax to let them know off the issues and could they have it taken care of locally as I lived almost two hours away. I was told that they would have to repair the car at carmax but they would give me a loaner.... Great. Four hits driving to buy the car and now Eight hours driving to drop off the car and then return when it was repaired. The manager told me they were sorry about all the issues and would correct it immediately. I dropped the car off on a Saturday. They finally called on Thursday and told me they had just looked at the car and would have to have it sent to a Mercedes dealer. I was not happy they were only looking at the car five days after I dropped it off. The girl on the phone told me that services are done by appointment only do my car was left until they had time to look at it as I didn't have an appointment. I told her I was asked by the service manager to bring the car in and they would look at it immediately due to ask the issues after just purchasing the car. She told me he was the sales manager and not the service manager so he was wrong. This experience has been a joke from day one. Poor service, no coordination between service reps, inadequate preparation of cars sold and no concern fit its effect on customers; and I am a repeat customer. This place really needs to get its act together. read more

CarMax made our car buying experience so easy. No haggling just pick your car and go. Our salesperson, Latesha was Great and super helpful. She was at work on her day off to handle one thing and ended up spending hours with us picking out a car. I would definitely recommend buying your car from them. My experience at CarMax was very good from looking to buying. The salesgal Suzi was helpful but not pushy. On test driving the vehicle, I noticed a pointed out a problem with steering, this was corrected and I purchased the car. They have a large selection, check them out. read more

I have to say overall my dealings with CarMax have been great. They have a large selection of vehicles and there is no pressure by the staff to buy a car. My only issue is problems I am having with my car but so far they have been helpful trying to resolve the problems. BUYER BEWARE! Before you purchase an extended warranty or get financing through Carmax, read all of the small print carefully...it is not what they sell you on. We purchased a car from Carmax 3.5 years ago and set up direct debit after about six months. Their direct debit system allows you to pick whatever date in the month that you want and does not warn you that, should you pick a date outside of your "payment window", they will add a $15 late fee. $15 every month, despite the fact that you have a direct debit set up. Moreover, the amount of your monthly direct debit doesn't reflect the late fee (unlike if you get billed monthly and miss a payment). Instead, they tack the late fee onto your balance, charge you interest on it, and keep extending your payments until it is all paid off. We only found out about the late fee because we went to pay the car off early and, low and behold, owed 3 years worth of late fees. YUP. Three years worth. Despite the fact that we paid every month. When we called to complain, they said it wasn't their place to prevent their customers from paying whenever they wanted during the month, and if people wanted to pick a date that was more convenient for them and just pay a late fee, who were they to stop them? SERIOUSLY?!?!? If your system had warned us that selecting a certain date was going to result in a late fee, we would have picked a different date! They were unwilling to even discuss waiving the fees. Add that to the fact that their 100,000 mile warranty is really only a warranty until the car reaches 100,000 miles (not how it was sold), and we will NEVER AGAIN buy a car from Carmax. Their practices are underhanded and intentionally misleading. I strongly urge you and everyone you know to shop elsewhere!! read more

However this place does fall short when it comes to purchasing a car from them...The sales person I had was so pushy and also nosey that I left because I was so annoyed. The only thing different from regular dealers is the "no haggle" policy....in fact my experience here was probably WORSE than at any "regular" dealer! from the git go greeting rep LIED to us - asked for phone# to help find us on the lot - which the sales rep didn't do but just found us. Then at the end the sales rep told us the# is so reps can follow up and harrass you endlessly if they don't have the car you found online anymore but want them to find you something similar - or something else comes in they think would be a good fit for you. Also you can not take car out without them taking photocopy of license - which technically is not "legal" to do - a dealer only needs to SEE your license. The reason they photocopy is to check your credit WITHOUT your knowing or agreeing to that so they can then STEER you to cars they think you can finance best. They also DEMAND their rep has to start and drive the car off the lot and go with for the test drive AND tell you where to drive! So you never get to feel how the key turns (which is important) and how the engine fires up OR really test out the engine, suspension, brakes, tires, etc by going to places with hills, tougher pavement or try full turns and parking in a lots, etc. Our rep also talked ENDLESSLY about dumb stuff (again, reps do this so you can't hear squeaks and get distracted from stuff that might signal problems) and NEVER showed any features of the car, so you would never know how to open the trunk, turn on the lights, air, defroster. In short my experience was a JOKE and I surely don't think you can trust buying anything used on the lot - even with their "15 point inspection". I would take anything used to a mechanic you trust IF you are dumb enough to buy without asking to test drive the car alone! read more

A great buying experience. I bought a 2015 Ram 1500 about 1 month ago. Everyone I dealt with including my sales rep, the sales manger, the financing rep, and the service rep were friendly and helpful. Special praise to Tony, my sales rep, and to Nicole my service rep. Tony was great in addressing my concerns throughout the buying process and Nicole was very helpful in addressing tire concerns.
