My salesman was great, I even forgot my driver's license and he waited for me to retrieve it; all of this at the end of the day. Somehow this time worked out for CarMax to be the best quote and everything went fine. You get there, they check your quote, they take a look at your car, take some pictures and send those pictures for approval somewhere else. After a few minutes they are back with your quote, fill up some paperwork and you're out with your check. Great, simple, pleasant, stress free and fast experience. While restoring a classic car, I had bought a 2021 used Toyota Tacoma while I waited for the restoration. Well, it was time to sell the truck and I was offered much less at my local Toyota dealer. Total waste of time! Management is poorly trained on corporate and business policy for purchasing. Literally drove 3.5 hours from the East Coast of FL due to Jeri saying they could purchase our vehicle and produce a check for an Estate. Got there and got turned away because they did NOT want to do the work associated with transferring an out of state title that had court ordered Administrative Documentation and a SIGNED legally (by a lawyer) notarized title. There were problems from the beginning with Carmax, mostly with communication. Calls from the call center were never returned. Finally, a woman assisted me and took the transportation fee. I never heard from them again until I called to be told the vehicle arrived but had problems. I went to the store and spoke to a lovely woman who explained the vehicle needed to be seen at a dealer for repair. She returned my fee. She contacted me weekly with updates. This entire process took 2 months. I finally told Carmax I was no longer interested in the vehicle. Everyone I dealt with was courteous, but the lack of calls was very discouraging. If allowed, I'd give the manager 4 stars for calling weekly, but otherwise, communication was awful. read more

So the car if my dreams was trashed with mud and dents after being shipped to florida. No ine knows what happened but found out after is was half as** repaird, it also had front end damaged when looked under hood. Did not buy. We thought that this was going to be a good experience but boy WERE WE WRONG. Apparently the vehicle we bought was in an accident and had some front end damage to the car and carmax half ass fixed it and didn't disclose it nor reported it to carfax. I sent pictures to the store and to corporate about taking money off the car to factor in the depreciation to the car and they wouldn't do it. If you look at the work order you can see they replaced alot of items which means there was some sufficient damage. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM CARMAX. Recently got a car here, I say not to make business here the sale person fail to inform that my vehicle was in 3 sever car accident and yet they have the nerve to sell me it at a no reasonable price. Website didn't even show the accident report. I have to find this out at the Honda Dealership, For everyone who's on budget trust me this place isn't worth it. They don't care about your satisfaction. Nothing but scum rats. They are equal to a third party dealership. Bought a beautiful car from Carmax. Looked for a year for this one. . Only 1400k miles. Mint condition. A $40,000 car! Long story short they couldn't ship it to me ( I was not at my residence)to drive home, so they charged to ship it to my home address, Looked at it when it arrived . . Covered in mud, all 4 wheels aND wheel wells. What the heck happened.!!, AND car had drivers side door and rear wheel well damage. Didn't even try to cleanup car. No one knows how or why. Cars are delivered at night and don't get check in. Really? It's was spotless when it left New Jersey . . Sent it to body shop. A week later looked at it again. Crappy repair on the 2 ft scratch down the door. aND CAR still not washed up, rinsed off but mud still all over. lazY and obviously don't care. Salesman nice enough but they are like minions running around with zero authority and NOTone person can give an answer to a question. I was SHOCKED!! Brought a. Friend with to drive the new car home. . .he says ugh this car has been repainted, see under hood where paint has orange peeled? And those white marks all over that they said were soap residue, nope. Fine cracks in grill from impact. So manager says well we only have to disclose if car has had frame damage. WHAT!!!??? Good bye! Buyer beware. I thought Carmax did thorough checks on the cars they sell. One good thing is they do have a 30 day return policy if for any reason you don't want it. That's what they say anyway. I went to Carmax to sell a Kia. They initially offered 6500. After inspection and waiting for an hour they reduced the number to 4000 based on "rough idle and stained back seat". I fix and race cars, the Kia ran fine. Back seat is Black cloth and impossible to stain. It did need to be cleaned. This was a classic "bait and switch". I left, went across the street and sold it to Ford for 6100. I'd recommend avoiding Carmax to sell your car. read more

Beware of Carmax!!!! It's nothing but a Bait and Switch Scam!!! I went online to try and see how much I could get from my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Limited Sterling Edition, Original Owner, Dealer Serviced Only, All Service Records Available, Very Well Kept, Only 41,000 miles, No Damage, Never in an Accident, Running Like New. Manufacturer Front, Rear and Trunk All Weather Mats, Dealer Installed Trailer Hitch, Manufacturer's Extended Warranty for 8 Years of 125,000 Miles. The vehicle is a gem and only reason for selling was lack of usage. I no longer have a need for it, having another vehicle and being retired. It would have ben the perfect vehicle for someone looking to keep it and drive it and make use of the Extended Warranty. I decided to check out Carmax, Carvana and posting it on FB Market Place and on Craigslist. Well, after going to Carmax online and filling out all the details, they came back with an instant offer of $34,000, and asked that I bring the vehicle to their location in Bradenton, FL Which was the closest to where I live. I made an appointment and went there expecting that they would try to bring the price down a few hundred, maybe even $1000 dollars, which I thought would be the normal way of conducting these transactions. Upon arrival I was greeted by a nice young man, with a tag with the number 2021, which was indicative of him being a fairly recent hire. He said he would have to take about 35 photos of the car and send them to a National Center, which is where the online offers are made from. He was very police and even said to me "I can tell that you baby this car". He was right, and could not find any fault with the car, after thoroughly going through everything. I had no problem with that and waited patiently for about a half hour, until I decided to approach him and asked what was the hold up; I had already received an offer and he verified the condition of the car, so I expected this to be a fairly simple transaction. I even suggested that I could leave and wait for his call to return, since it looked like they were busy with a lot of people waiting to get their online offers confirmed, while others waited to purchase a vehicle from their lot. He told me it would only be an additional 5 minutes. A few minutes later, and without finding a single issue wrong with the car, he came back and had me and my wife sit down on a computer and showed me the number that the "National Center" had quoted my vehicle was worth. That number was $ 28,890. Now that to me was a total insult and seemed like a scam, the classical "Bait and Switch Scam". Without saying much I just told him that I would be posting a nice review detailing how their scam works. He couldn't say anything but smiled and looked genuinely embarrassed. I can't understand how these people waste other people's time by pulling such a stunt. They could have just been upfront and honest online and not made me waste my time for a ridiculous $5000 low ball difference without any faults with the vehicle. I understand that unfortunately with the current economic situation, many people may need to sell their vehicle for whatever they can get, but this is clearly taking advantage of people and a totL disregard for other people's time. As luck would have it, on the same day I got in contact with G. Bond from the Crown Automotive Group in St. Petersburg. He was honest, and did not waste my time, which is the only thing I was hoping for; he explained to me what the vehicle was really worth for the purpose of reselling it and made an honest offer of $32,000. I thought about it for several days and I accepted the offer; he came to my house, inspected the car, had me sign some paperwork and handed me a check. The offer did not change and I felt that he did not waste my time. Big difference in how to operate a business, honesty still exists. The moral of the story is: Don't be fooled by people who give you an unrealistic offer and then try to lowball you by many thousands when they meet you, feeling they can take advantage of the fact that you made the trip to them and are somewhat invested in the deal, while hoping that you need that money bad. It is businesses like Carmax that operate without scruples that give other businesses in the industry a bad name. Shame on you Carmax, and thank you Crown Auto Group. J. M. A. read more

A very bad CARMAX. We got a CARMAX certified offer online, indicating a lease end, we checked the lease companies on their website that they do not deal with, (ours was a company that they do work with), made an appointment to go turn in our car, drove 1/2 hour to CARMAX, and was told arrogantly that they don't work with our lease company (JP Morgan Chase). Went home called CARMAX customer service, they told us CARMAX does work with JP Morgan Chase and that they should have taken our car. We called JP Morgan Chase and they said they work with Carmax all the time, in fact this representative had serviced CARMAX that day and several others during this week., Called Bradenton CARMAX back and they still would not even try to work with our situation. A maddening waist our time--and they just seemed too lazy to try to work a deal which other CARMAX's do daily. Called the next nearest CARMAX and they indicated that they would be happy to assist us.
