Great haircut. Fun to talk with. Close to all the ASU happenings. Swing by while on your way to the event.

Very nice and sweet lady. She knows how to do a fade. Her price is beyond reasonable for a haircut. Good environment also. I recommend her.

Quality of my haircut was amazing and the atmosphere felt nice compared to other barber shops.

Always reliable, feel comfortable, convenient and easy to find. I get that small town feel in the middle of downtown Tempe

Got the haircut I wanted for a great price. Small shop just off mill avenue. Walk into the plaza and her barbershop is next to the yoga studio. read more

Went great! Will definitely go back for my next cut. Carlyn was friendly fast and efficient does great work! 10/10 would recommend. She's the goat read more

Cute location and great work! My bf and I love his cut and loved this classic shop. Carlyn was sweet, knowledgeable, and is super bad a$$- a total girl boss! I loved her vibe! I recommend her 110% Advisory: -Cash Only -May get distracted by the cute courtyard -Must bring extra cash for the cute surrounding shops read more

I visited Carlyn's Barber Shop solely based on the Yelp reviews. I'm glad I did! I've had a pretty busy schedule lately, and just simply haven't had time for a haircut. I felt like I had hippie hair, so I had to do something! Carlyn runs a one-chair shop in a nice little courtyard right off Mill St. I was lucky. When I arrived, there wasn't a wait (apparently there usually is). I'm really happy with the cut she gave me, and some might consider me "picky" when it comes to my hair. If I lived here, I'd be a regular. As it is, I'll have to visit next time I'm in town. read more

Excellent service great lady Highly recommend prices are inline great location in downtown tempe read more

I was lucky in that I showed up just before other clients did, and it was phenomenal. Carlyn has been doing this for 26 years now and knows far more than any other stylist or barber I've been to in my short years. She took my inept description of what I wanted and turned it into a fantastic haircut. It's cash- and walk-in-only, but I think I'll stick with it. ;) read more

Carlyn is a great barber (stylist) and has become a good friend. I recommend her highly and without reservation.

It was the best haircut and beard trim. Highly recommend. Very personable in a small shop I absolutely enjoyed the experience.

Carlyn is a great barber who makes sure to do what she's doing right. She takes the time to listen to what you want and solicits feedback along the way, too. After a few visits, she began to learn my hair and how to best get it to do what I wanted and I haven't had to spend quite as long in the chair. I'm typically in and out in under 30 minutes, even of there are one or two customers ahead of me. She's also really accurate on letting you know how long her wait is, so if you aren't sure, just ask! read more

I went to Carlyn on advice from my son. It was the best cut I've had in awhile. It's a small one chair place on Mill Ave hidden in a little marketplace. She has years of experience you won't be disappointed. read more

Great hair cut. Cash only. Friendly service. Cash only. Very clean. Cash only. I will never go to another barber as long as I'm in the Tempe area. Also, don't forget to bring cash as I seem to always do. (ATM is on the corner!) read more

After moving to Arizona from Indiana needed to find someone to cut my hair. tried several different salons and none seem to meet my needs until I found Carolyn's. One of the best values I've ever found when it comes to getting my haircut. read more

Maggie B. ~ Went for the first time and was not disappointed. Great cut and easy conversation. I will be back for sure!

Great haircut and great owner! Cut my hair exactly the way I wanted it and was easy to talk to

I have been coming to Carlyn's for a couple months now, and I am soooo glad I stumbled on her Barber Shop. She really takes the time to make sure you are getting the haircut you want, and having a consistent barber is the cherry on top. She gets to know what you like, and delivers great cuts every time. Always has fun stories and is a great conversationalist if you are. If you're more a quiet type she doesn't try to force a conversation so never awkward. Can't give more praise. She is amazing and that's that. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that I do no like getting my hair cut. Trips to the barber have always been like trips to the dentist in that I don't really want to go, since I'm not going to like what happens in the short term, but I recognize that I should go, because it's in my long term best interest to do so. Now that being said I actually enjoyed my experience at Carlyn's. Her one chair shop was quiet, she struck just the right balance between no-nonsense hair cutting silence and frivolous banter, and most importantly she was able to make some sense out of my vague attempt to describe what I wanted done with my hair, and give me a haircut that I liked instead of merely tolerated. I might not dread getting my hair cut the next time I decide that my mop needs a trim. read more

Great haircut at a great price and fast. Carlyn knows how to cut the way you like it. No appointments, cash only, convenient.

Excellent haircut! Loved the COVID safe environment too! Thank you so much for the fantastic styling for my son!

When I first moved up from Tucson I had a heck of a time finding a good barber. In fact I would hold off getting a cut until I could make it back to Tucson on the weekends & that got old fast. I walked in to Carlyn's on Mill Ave & found my home. No high price salon here, this one seat shop is functional & fashionable all in one. Carlyn is the owner & sole Barber. She takes great care in your cut. I now have six years going to her & I would not trust my Grizzle Face to another. This was my best kept secret, but I'll do you a solid. Closed Sundays & Mondays. read more

Carlyn's Barber Shop - The Master her self. - Barbers Near Me - Tempe, Arizona

I have been on the hunt for my next barber for about 2 years now ever since my last barber moved to Oklahoma. I luckily found Carlyn who cuts my just the way I like it with minimal instructions. She's certainly a master of her trade and would most definitely recommend her. I have been getting but compliments on my haircuts ever since I started going to her. read more

as of today 17/mar she's still open--so far no covid-19 barber shut downs. she took me in in spite of being an hour to close, reminded me it's cash only ($20) and pointed me towards an atm, and got me out in under 50 min. i'm horrible at talking about hair with every barber so i normally bring 3+ pictures (of, to their bane, different cuts. sorry!) & say "if you can trim me anything like any of these i'll be happy as a clam" all the while letting them know they could accidentally have my head and i'd still be relaxed. she was patient, tolerant, and helped my indecisive self settle on something. made nice conversation and wasn't difficult to talk to. very refreshing, would love to come by in the future. read more

Just got out of court on 6th street and after getting some good news (Insert Sarcastic Voice Now) I had some lunch and needed my wig trimmed. I thought of going to another barbershop but I came across this Kool Kats shop. You walk in and you feel like you are in a waiting room for a spa. Very tranquil and quaint. Carlyn greeted me right when I walked in and I just felt great energy. I let her know how I wanted it cut and she did a great job. I will be back! Also its cash only. read more

Carlyn is fantastic at cutting hair. She has a hole in the wall shop (literally). She is the only barber of her shop and it makes for a great experience getting your hair cut. The prices are good and a fantastic find. Because she is the only person there, doesn't take appointments, and is good at her job, the more obscure time you can go get your hair cut, the better chance there is no wait. Also, if you want to park for free, use the complex behind her building in the garage. Press to pay hourly and then you will only be there for 1 hour. It will then say total price is $0.00 because the first hour is free. read more

Nice lady. Great haircut. App says review short,so cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccblah blah blah!

Terrific barbershop. Carlyn did a great job! Very fast and a reasonable price. I recommend to students as it is close and easy to get to.

Great haircut for good price and friendly owner. The place is hidden away a bit but once you find it there is not normally much of a wait.

It's been a spell since my first Yelp about Carlyn's place, so I thought I would add another review. I am still in the honeymoon phase of this relationship. Carlyn continues to consistently deliver an excellent haircut, her hours are appropriate, and if I time it right there is almost no wait. What more could I ask for? read more

Carlyn's is everything most guys expect in a Barber Shop-Clean, simple decor, one chair, a very competent barber, and good conversation! So convenient too to the downtown. Usually in early afternoon I get right in. Just off the sidewalk in the Mill Avenue Shops by Fatburger. Under $20, but cash only so be prepared. read more

I came to Carlyn with a mop after just moving to the area. There's nothing more awesome than a one chair shop that has been in business as long as she has. Working with pure experience and passion you will no doubt come out with a great cut, I would highly recommend taking time to stop in for your next cut. read more

Finally...after living here for two years...I have found my barber. I have been to several places (even reviewed one here previously) but Carlyn's is the best. She doesn't do a neck shave but I don't care about that anymore. She cuts my hair exactly like I ask. It costs $18 at the time of this review and I giver her $5 for a tip. Worth every penny. read more

More of a question... I'm from out of state.. A female with very short hair..I find barbers cut my hair best.. Would you scissor cut a woman's hair? read more

Best haircut I've ever had. I lived really close to her barbershop for a year, and then moved further away, but still drove the 25 minutes because it was worth it. Few things to note: 1. There are no reservations, so be prepared to wait if you're there on a busy day. 2. It's cash only. Bring at least $20 for a haircut + tip (rate is currently $18). 3. You can park 1 hour for free in the nearby parking garage. read more

I came here to get a bad haircut fixed. She did a great job. 18 years cutting hair in the same location- how does she not have 1000 5-star reviews? read more

Use to get my haircut when I traveled out of state.....discovered Carlyns in downtown Tempe. I'm usually not all that picky but she does such a superb job I am now spoiled and have not gone anywhere else for a year+. I have been hesitant to post something cause I selfishly don't want her to be swamped and cause me to wait. I also hesitate to say this but she could probably charge more $ and I bet not lose a person. No nonsense. No reservation needed walk in and walk out very pleased. read more

I heard great reviews about this place. I had to wait a day because it was closed on Mondays but it was well worth it. The haircut was great even though it was my first time being in a barber shop! I told her what I wanted and she did it exactly how I wanted it! Will be coming back when my hair grows long again! Carlyn, you're awesome! read more

Located at the Mills Ave Alley of shops just 50' north of the Mills Ave/W 5th St intersection on the west side of Mills. Paid $18 for a nice clippers and scissors men's haircut. Much cheaper than quoted me at Elite just off Mills on 5th. Good haircut, good prices and good availability-walkins only. Strongly recommend. Nice lady, good conversation. read more
