Loved that they have an entire gluten free menu and the smoked salmon was amazing. The service was great and I didn't feel rushed when I finished my breakfast and was just finishing up my pot of tea.

Ugh. Awful. I don't know what I was thinking. I spaced consulting my trust worthy yelp before entering this place. I blame the Guiness and the jet lag. The decor was nice and clean. The location is ideal. The coffee was eh ok. The meal was not good. The eggs were cooked rock hard. The server was not attentive and had to be flagged down each time. She was a bit rude. They weren't even busy. We were one of 5 tables or so in there. I do not recommend.

On my last night in town, I wanted to break out of: meat & potatoes meat & potatoes meat & potatoes meat & potatoes meat & potatoes meat & potatoes I went looking for a good Italian place by Yelping the crap out the Dublin page. One of the spots that came up was Carluccio's. I must admit, I was skeptical of the quality of Italian food in Dublin. I also feared I would end up at some lousy red-sauce joint with brick walls, checkered tablecloths and Andrea Bocelli playing on the stereo. Heck no! Upon entering, you walk through a mini-Italian groceria, which I liked a lot. Then we proceeded to the dining room in the back, which was light and airy, without the bright feeling of a McDonalds. The host greeted us (a 20-something kid), shoved menus in our faces and then asked how many in our party - in a thick Italian accent. As Patrick Bateman said, "relief washed over me in an awesome wave". I finally relaxed. The service was excellent from start to finish at Carluccio's. We started of with a bottle of wine, which was amazing. Two of us got the penne in a spicy sausage tomato sauce. It was absolutely fantastic. I almost ate the plate. Another person got the linguine with clams and shrimp in a light sauce. He really liked his dish as well. The nice touches: Although service was a bit brisk, when we were finished, they did not rush us out. They left us alone, letting us enjoy some conversation, only bringing the bill when I asked. Also, when the pasta came, I asked for a plate of bread and they made a nice little plate of different kinds of bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the side. Tired of meat & potatoes? Head to Carluccio's.

Came in while on holiday as someone had recommended this spot. We had all looked at the menu and unfortunately when we went to order only 1/4 of our options were available. The poor server had to let us know all of the seafood and choice meats were sold out because of the busy weekend. Luckily for us he was a very kind server and the food we ended up with was delicious. We had made reservations so it would have been a nice gesture for someone to let us know the menu was very limited, even posting it on the website would have been appropriate. Once we were finished it took a good 20 mins to get our check which was also a bit odd. All and all we'd probably visit another location but certainly ask if the menu was fully serviced.

Came here for dinner because Carluccio's has a reputation for great Italian food, which I am a huge fan of Fabulous Italian. Unfortunately this place came up short on this night. The wine list is pretty short for an Italian restaurant so I passed on the wine. Would like to see some mild red wines. We got the HomeBaked Focaccia Bread with Garlic and Provolone Cheese. The bread was soaked in grease and stacked on the other piece of bread so the cheese was stuck to it. The bread was also very tough, like it was old. I would not recommend it. We ordered the Trio Di Pasta: The Spaghetti Carbonara was excellent. The Spaghetti noodles were tender and smoky pancetta was amazing. An excellent dish I would recommend. The Penne Alla Luganica was very good. The Penne Pasta was perfect, the sauce was OK, but the spicy Luganica Sausage was not that spicy. Still a very good dish I would get again. The Fettucce Con Polpette came up short. The tender beef meatballs didn't have any flavor. The Fettucce Pasta didn't have enough sauce so it was dry, which made the noodles less tender and clumped together. Over all good Italian, but not great Italian. They do have very good service and the staff are very friendly.

Open late for dinner. Was pretty busy even though it was past 9. Great service and food. I would go back.

5 minutes, just 5 minutes peace is all I want...and a coffee, maybe something nice to go with the coffee.... and a smile, a smile would be nice. Trudging through town with a cranky 5 year old and a wife with that glazed don't-bother-me-i'm-shopping look in her eye is not my ideal Sunday morning, something must be done to steer me towards a happy place. Welcome then to Carluccio's, Q's Sunday morning happy place (well, actually, my Sunday morning happy place is my garden, with a large fresh coffee and the sun shining, but this is the I-have-to-go-shopping-and-need-sanctuary happy place). Children are given a wee pack containing crayons and other such paraphernalia which keeps them very happy and (blessed be) quiet, Q gets coffee and pastries, something sweet and smiles from the staff. Love it.

Delizioso, amichevole e di buon valore! Delicious food, friendly staff (great bants lads!), great value, and lovely ambience - sure ye can't beat that. Unless you've got a rug rat situation and you need somewhere that's got delicious food, friendly staff, good value, nice ambiance, AND facilities to entertain said rug rat whilst the rest of the elders stuff their faces. Then, you can beat it. With a cuddly toy shaped stick. We had the lunch special - two courses for €12.95 I believe it was. The bruschetta to start was genuinely the best bruschetta I've ever had. No, really. It comes on a massive plate, one half piled high with lightly seasoned and oiled rocket, the other with fresh tomato, basil, peppers, literally piled on top of lightly pan fried bread. So. Good. This was followed by Italian sausage and tomato sauce penne. Again, perfect. The waiter was funny, attentive, professional, and completely on the ball. The kicker for the crew I was there with, was the elements for the childers. There were high chairs brought over straight away, and each child gets a beautifully wrapped little pack with a cute little drawing kit inside. I noticed there were a few other children around the place who were all very intently concentrating on their colouring, not a word out of them. in the same vein, I wouldn't let the child-friendliness put off other non-mini-me people. It's still very much a grown up restaurant, oozing good food, great service and a sophisticated atmosphere. Top notch stuff all round, well done

I love the little market they have at this location...great Italian products including wine, cookies, chocolates, pasta, and sauces. The baked goods are also wonderful. The employees are super cool. I think the food is good here...not spectacular but you will have a decent meal. The service is friendly and attentive. The prices are fair. www.carluccios.com

Last week I embarked on something I had never, in all my 32 years, tried. Not eating. For six days…read more Yes, that is six full days. Instead I drank juice. Juice for breakfast, juice for lunch, juice for dinner and even a 'treat' juice as a snack. Honestly, I was unsure if I'd be able to get through a day, never mind a full six, but I gave it a bash. Lo and behold, it was easier than I thought. Perhaps because I was so full to the brim after Christmas of stodge and booze, that going the opposite direction towards fresh fruit and veg, was actually a pleasure. There is so much goodness packed into each bottle, I felt a little like I could feel the vitamins and minerals absorb in my body, like a superhero that had been on downtime for a while, getting fueled up again for the next watch. Granted, there may be a bit of a placebo affect taking place here, but you can be sure that those very vitamins and minerals are all counted and present too. The theory of a juice cleanse is after you replace all meals and snacks with juices made from (preferably organic) fruits and vegetables, our bodies are free from toxins (or freer than they were before). We are able to ingest a lot more fruits and veg by juicing rather than eating (if you've ever seen the amount that goes into one glass of juice, you'll understand this), so this enables a lot more nutrients to go into your body. Finally that it sets you on the path of eating more healthily after the stringent period is over. Having never done any of this before in my life, I decided to go the easy route and have some professionals do my juicing for me (just to get me started ye see!) My first three days were with Juices by Ginger (review to follow), and the next three days were with Dr Juice. I would recommend going down this route if you're new to juicing - these guys have brilliant machines and know the right ratio of ingredients to make the juices palatable (unlike my attempts since) So, Dr Juice. You get a full three days worth for €60 - that's 12 juices in total. You can either pick them up in their Temple Bar quarters (Staple Foods), or they'll deliver for a tenner. There's a full 500ml of juice in each bottle, which is labeled to show what exactly is inside and how long it's good for. They also come with a little leaflet giving you some tips on the cleanse, and how to ease yourself off it at the end. Here's how the juices go: Morning: The Green Goliath. Containing spinach, kale, cucumber (though I asked for it without this most evil of all vegetables), celery, apple, lemon, ginger and spirulina. If you haven't had spirulina before, it's got quite a pungant taste, so get ready. It's got a myriad of benefits though, so it's great that these guys include it - most of the other juices I've seen literally only include fruit and veg. Lunch: Beet Boxer. Containing beetroot, carrots, apple, pear and lime. This was really delicious and a pleasure to drink Snack: Orange Juice. I found it hilarious that this is called a 'treat' juice. Mainly because it's made of more fruit than veg. It contains carrots, apples and ginger. Again, delish. Dinner: Back to ye old Green Goliath. Really filling with the good old spirulina 'kick' And how the whole cleanse went? Besides some difficult moments when "friends" were taunting me with burgers and various forms of cheese, I was surprised that it wasn't overly difficult. The juices actually fill you up considerably - much more so than any crash diet. The most important thing for me though was to feel healthy afterwards, which I do. As many others before me have reported, I slept better, my energy levels went way higher, and my skin looked great. Now to keep it up! All in all, a really great service and product from Staple Foods. If you haven't tried it, give it a go! Be sure to give them some notice though, as they are busy enough with January detoxers.

Seriously, this is the third shake place I've seen opening up in the last couple months, all bursting with retina-popping colours and retro-hip attitudes. You get one filling free and can add more fillings, boosts, and toppings if you pony up (all under a euro each). Switching from cow juice to organic soya milk and ice cream will cost you 99c/1.49. I like that the menu's clearly marked as to what IS vegan, what's NOT veggie and what's NOT gluten-free. Another plus is the 10% discount for students and members of the emergency services. I got a passionfruit soya smoothie. They cut up the fruits right before my eyes and used a non-dairy blender. I did have to wait a few minutes as it was busy, but I think it was worth it. The counters were covered in sprinkles, cookie crumbs, dirty ice cream scoops, knives covered with peanut butter, etc. Well anyway, I ordered my milkshake and waited and waited and waited. An entire line of people order and leave with their drinks before they notice I am still waiting. After 20 minutes I finally go up to the counter and ask where my milkshake is and I see the cup sitting on the counter marked with my order. "It looks like we forgot to make it," says the counter boy who was apparently the shift manager--dear God help them. They simply forgot. You think? Best of all, he allows the other employees to completely finish cleaning the counters and only then does he realize nobody has begun the milkshake. He decides to take on the task himself and gets completely flabbergasted when a new person lines up. He actually takes a new order and makes THAT milkshake before finally making mine. Jaw-dropping. Another employee realizes how ridiculous it is that I have waited 30 minutes for a milkshake and give me a card worth one free milkshake. When I go in to redeem my free milkshake, they have run out of the ingredients for the one I want--even though it's one of the popular combos listed on the menu. Needless to say, I will not be going there ever again.

Still, they are very tasty and much healthier than any other snack that you're likely to pick up on the go. Zumo is the market leader in Ireland's nascent smoothie industry, and if you picked up a franchise in the early days, you would have made an absolute killing. The stands are tiny so they'd have eff all overheads, and your only inputs are a load of fruit bought at wholesale prices. I have two little issues with Zumo. First of all, most of the smoothies on the menu contain banana as one of the central ingredients. I imagine that this is primarily for the purposes of viscosity, as most fruits are quite watery in nature, and the banana is required to give the smoothie its pleasant thickness. Personally, I am very fond of bananas and usually eat one every day, but I find that the addition of a banana to a smoothie gives the drink an overpowering banana flavour, which renders the majority of Zumo's menu out of bounds for me. More smoothies with yogurt substituted for banana, please. And this adding a shot of wheatgrass lark?
