This review is for both Dr Whitmeyer and Dr Pierce, as our family of three has had the pleasure of seeing both of them for our vision needs. We chose this office based on the excellent Yelp! Reviews and close proximity to our home in Shadowridge. We were able to schedule appts at convenient times, and the office staff was extremely warm and friendly from the get-go. My better half and his kiddo both saw Dr Whitmeyer, and they just love her to pieces. She worked with him to get progressives that fit his daily needs, and he's very happy with the results. He had previously paid for, and wound up discarding, several pairs of transitions/bifocals that never quite worked right for him in the past year, but with Dr Whitmeyer, they worked through (in great detail), the best possible correction for his vision. His daughter had special eye needs that hadn't been diagnosed previously, which required a prism lens. I'm happy to report that her vision has been improved greatly, she's suffering from less headaches as a result of eye strain, and she's actually wearing her glasses!!! For my own eyes, I saw Dr Allison Pierce. She is amazing - so sweet and funny, and she really made the experience "five star" worthy for me. I have a stigmatism, and frequently consider my left eye to be all but useless, and felt my vision had significantly worsened in the past year. Turns out, my previous eye doctor had given me a "minus" prescription, when I really needed a "plus". Dr Allison did a very thorough exam, including my first dilation, and explained everything she was doing, looking for and testing as we went. She's enthusiastic and funny, knowledgable and well spoken - so while it was a fun, enjoyable appointment despite the dilation, she also shared a lot of information with me to help me understand my vision problems and the correction needed. Finally - I can't leave out the sweet front office girls, Kitty and Angelica. They are hilarious, and definitely improve the process of picking out new glasses!! I had lenses replaced in my favorite frames and the girls helped me pick a sweet pair of prescription Maui Jim aviators. They helped my boyfriend pick a pair that really flatter his face, plus lightweight and comfortable for him to wear. But perhaps most impressive was navigating through teenager land to find a pair she liked, enjoys wearing, and that she is actually wearing on a daily basis! read more

Nothing against the doctor. She seems good. Unethical practices with respect to a "contact lens exam" charge. Called to get prescription to order online as insurance was used for glasses and was notified of this. As a contact lens wearer for 15 years, this requires zero additional evaluation and marginal cost. This is an additional revenue stream that 2 previous optometrists do not practice. Completely about principle, not cost, I'm sure it's negligible. My family will not be doing business with this practice, will be sure to notify other close members of the community and returning to optometrist in Solana Beach. read more

Dr Katherine Witmeyer is the BEST! I have been seeing her for years and she is so professional, knowledgeable and personable all at once! She knows my info before she even brings it on the screen. She is very thorough and always looks out for my best interest. She is very aware of the latest greatest technologies and products. If only my Primary Care Physician were half as efficient! She is someone I have recommended to very close friends and will continue. Her staff is impeccable! Amazing appointment. The optometrist that I saw gave a very thorough examination. There was a very very soft up sale of an additional/optional examination. Ultimately after considering it - I paid the $33 after completing the regular eye exam (which is better 1 or 2) the optometrist called up the results of the optional examination and the images that were taken as a result of the examination and went into great detail. I had no problems, but, quite frankly, the education I received was worth the $33 I paid. The staff out front, in addition to handling the patients, are clearly charged with selling frames and lenses; however, it is not a high-pressure sales environment. Overall, I give them 5 stars and I will be back for my next annual exam. I highly recommend them. read more

They are very professional, prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, and technically advanced, not just in their medical devices, but even in their systems. Carlsbad Optometry exceeded my expectations. How often do you get a chance to say that? I'm content if a business meets my expectations, but exceeding them actually restores my faith in humanity. I had a horrible experience at Grand Vision Optometry (GVO)in San Marcos. I had Yelped it and thought I would turn to yelp to find another shop. Often, when I see nothing but 5-star reviews, I suspect that they may be fake. After my experience here, I totally believe each review is authentic. It all worked out for the best. I had chosen completely the wrong frames for my lens requirements at GVO. Thankfully, because of their abysmally poor service, I went to CO. All I can say is, "Wow,". My frames are perfect. I feel gorgeous in them. CO's selection is substantial. Their customer service in frame selection is wonderful. I can't wait till I get to choose my next pair. They did my lenses too. I could have taken my frames and had the lenses done elsewhere, and that is my "right" under my VSP insurance. Some optometry offices attempt to deny me that choice. This office did not attempt to deny me my choice. But, the frames I selected couldn't be filled at Costco. I'm happy though because I have a great warranty on them. read more

I have been going to Carlsbad Optometry for years. I LOVE Dr. Witmeyer! She is very competent and takes the time to answer all of my questions and never makes me feel rushed. I have a few vision-related issues so my choice of an optometrist is extremely important to me. I heartily recommend Dr. Witmeyer....you will not be disappointed. The front office staff was very attentive to getting the correct specifications of my contact prescription to the optometrist. Dr. Millet took care to explain to me all of her findings in my exam, and I know a lot more about the health of my eyes than previously. Finally, there was no pressure to purchase new frames- (though I did try on a number of very nice frames in stock). It has nothing to do with the Katherine, Allison or Lucia - they are great and the procedures I have had have been good. The reason I will never return and leave a 1 star is the front desk receptionists. They don't answer calls, they do not call back, while standing at the counter, they want me to call the insurance company. They have (repeatedly) bad attitudes and are rude. ZERO customer service.
