They probably had 20 beers or more to pick from with a heavy emphasis on the IPAs--shocker, I know. I am not a huge IPA guy but if it is good, it is good. The place is airy and comfortable. It is also family friendly. They offer a variety of empanadas, if you want some food with your beer. We tried a few of them and the ham and cheese version was the clear winner. Honestly, the empanadas were nothing special and, my guess is, they were originally frozen. I eat a ton of frozen food so I am not being critical of frozen foods, ok? I liked them but I didn't love them. Parking on the weekend is extremely tough in Carlsbad but the nearby train station has a parking lot that stretches for miles. I imagine it is supposed to be used only for train customers but everyone parks there and it is freeeeeee. Very nice beer and very comfortable environment. The poor score is because the beer was awful. I tried a Pilsner, a blonde, and a red ale. The pilsner was hoppy, the blonde ale was weirdly salty? The red ale was pretty decent. I also tried four heavier, more alcoholic ones: Black's Peach (sour ale--it was sour indeed), Drink This or the Bees Die (Golden Honey--not bad), Sasquack (Belgian--very good), and St. Alfonsos (Imperial Stout at 12.8 ABV--this one was absolutely outstanding but better have a designated driver with you). This place is kid friendly and definitely dog friendly. In fact, there were probably more dogs than humans during our visit and I'm not complaining. Dogs are better than people, as we know. This was on a Friday night and the place was absolutely slammed, which was nice to see. No food available but you can bring in your own grub.
