This was by far the best car I'd van rental experience we've had. We needed a 15 passenger van to accommodate all our family and extended family during our visit. We usually need to take 2-3 vehicles to transport everyone. Our flight got in after hours and it was waiting for us at the designated parking area within the airport. Van was clean and fairly new. Only complaint was it smelled a little musty. If using an debit card be aware the deposit is $500, not $150 as it states in the contract you sign. I called about this and it's apparently in the "fine print." We'd use them again. read more

Carl's van Rentals saved the day (and the wallet)!! We were dropped off at another car rental place just down the street where we had originally secured a reservation and that is where the problems began to add up and we knew we needed to find another vehicle rental plan and fast. I would recommend a reservation but .... Carl happened to have a van available for us and was able to quickly summarize our costs for tolls, insurance, and an extra driver. (Beware of other rentals on that strip who will nickel and dime you until you realize you haven't saved a penny by using them.) Jerry was polite and courteous helping us get the van paperwork settled in a matter of minutes without any hidden fees or surprises. We initially rented a 12 passenger van for 5 days and it was clean, AC was cool, and backup camera made driving easier to navigate. It was missing a plastic panel in the back of the van, but it didn't affect the functionality of the van. We returned the van midweek after some of our crew departed and got a smaller van. It was a white Kia and it was also clean with a lot of great features like smartphone hook up for music and navigation. The kids really liked that feature. Absolutely Fantastic place to rent from! They offer personalized services even the larger Rental companies don't offer. First and foremost, they arranged for Shuttle Service to pick us up from the Airport and drive us to their hotel partner (Free of Charge)! Secondly and more importantly, our rental was picked up on Thanksgiving Thursday in the US when all branches were closed! Pricing was fantastic and more importantly they communicate with you both before and after the rental is completed. Where do I start with this one? Completely incompetent rental company. The bottom line, rent from a more reputable company who has an office at the airport. It's not worth it to save a few bucks. Now, the long story... I had reserved a minivan for a one-week rental out of Orlando International Airport. First off their offices closed at 6 p.m. so if you're arriving after that you need to send them a copy of your driver's license and insurance. It does not sound that difficult except I didn't find out they needed this information until I was at my departing airport heading to Orlando! I had to get Wi-Fi on the plane to try to coordinate with my insurance agent to send them the information. Then they were supposed to leave me a voicemail on my phone letting me know where my car was located. This never happened. Supposedly they leave you a message and tell you what parking space number your car is at & you need to try to use a lock box to get in to get keys. Seems like a big hassle to the customer just so they could save some money on not having the office open and not having extended hours. Also the shuttle that was supposed to pick us up never showed up and the "emergency" after hours line was the wrong number on the 2018 form they asked me to fill out. I waited with my wife and four kids for over an hour at 9p at night before deciding to talk to a regular rental company at the airport. It took about 15 minutes to get the car and I was able to get a better price than Carl's van rental. Never again! read more

My family rented from Carl's when we were visiting for vacation from MN and we were hesitant about the reviews because they were mixed, but we decided to go with it, because they gave us the best deal for a passenger van that fit 12 people. The paper work was easy and fast to complete. It was an online PDF file where you can sign and read all of the fine print and charges. We had a very late flight, so it was an after-hours pick up. The instructions were easy to follow with the key in the lock box and where the van was located. The tank was full with gas, so we didn't have issues with that. The only issues we had was the van smelled so bad. It smelled like pee, we wanted to buy air fresheners right away, but then we just got used to the smell after a couple of days. Also the check light came on for the tire pressure monitor system. I e-mail them and it seemed like they already knew the concern and stated to just add air if it was low or call roadside if we needed a new tire. I wish they would have fixed this in the beginning or let us know that it was an issue already, so I didn't have to outreach them. I didn't want them to charge me for anything wrong with the van that I did not do. Overall: I would recommend them if you are in the Orlando, FL area. I would rent from them again if I ever go down to FL for that price and van size you can't beat it. read more

One of vans leaked like a sieve. Another smelled bad. All had duct tape holding panels on. When we asked for a solution to the leaking van, we were told that we could pay for the time we had used, return the van and get no replacement vehicle. After intense pestering they offered to wave our mileage fee, which would save us very little money. read more

This is our second time renting vans from Carls. Both times, we have found them to be very accommodating, and very reasonably priced. Our econoline van, for the week, was in the $320 range (before taxes). Since we flew into Orlando after business hours, they left the vans in a satellite lot with the key in a lock box...pretty helpful. On the return, they willingly dropped us off our hotel. Again, helpful. Vans have always been clean, reliable. This year's econoline had 40k on the clock. I would imagine we will stick with them until they give us reason to look elsewhere! read more

I called to verify deposit and reservation went through. They informed me they "couldn't" honor the reservation price. He kept telling me it was $515. Plus $250 deposit. I had told him I had a quote from someone else who was close to my reservation. He told me "well you better take it then." It boiled down to they would not honor their reservation price. Due to my plane being re-routed, I needed to get a one-way van rental so that I could pick up a van in Orlando, drive my family to Tampa (our destination) and return the car rental to the Tampa airport next week when we fly out. So I called Carl's and was quoted a reasonable rate, and I specifically explained our situation... and specifically asked him if there was a one-way transfer fee to drop off at their location in Tampa instead (which is a nearby city). The man on the phone said no, there was no extra fee to do that, we made the reservation for the price he quoted me, and I traveled to their shop from the Orlando airport. Once I arrived, they said that the cost would actually be $100 more than the man had quoted me on the phone, they said that he was wrong and there actually is a fee to drop off at their other location (vs back here in Orlando). They understood it was completely their agent's fault, they seemed to know who it was, but they were unwilling to do anything to resolve the situation. I even offered to split the difference, we'd each lose $50 then because of his mistake. But they were completely unreasonable and made no attempts to make it up to me at all-- I was lied to on the phone, my family wasted an hour of our precious vacation time traveling out to the shop and back to find another plan B rental. Because on principle, I certainly did not want to patron a company that would completely mislead their customers and feel no remorse about doing so. Don't trust them. Follow up: hmm... what a very interesting perspective that Eric has shared Eric, if you would like to send me a copy of this audio recording which you referenced in which I was supposedly not completely misled on the quote, I would be very happy to take down my 1-star review if indeed it was a simple misunderstanding on the part of the agent. Be very careful or just stay away from Carl's Van Rental! We were visiting Disney World and needed a van, Carls had the best prices and an option to pickup/drop-off the van after business hours. Seemed like a decent option. Pros: Pickup/Drop-off instructions were accurate and easy to follow. Cons: Old smelly van, keyless entry not working; but we did not care as we were just planning to use it to drive from our hotel to Disney World everyday, who cares if its a smelly ride for 10 mins, right? The gas tank was only half full when we got it, but again, thats a minor detail. Horror: The real horror story started when least expected. We had an early flight to catch (before business hours), so per the instructions from Carls, we parked the van in the long term parking lot, put in the keys in the lockbox provided by them, emailed them the parking spot number where the van was parked and boarded our flight. Two days after our vacation, I notice a new charge of $585 from Carls on my credit card! No message or anything, just a direct charge without any warning! I immediately called them and emailed them about it, thought it must be a manual mistake. The horror had began; I just got their voicemail box and a couple of hours later, received an email from them saying that the van had scratches and its condition was being investigated; the charge was to cover the damage! Further, they will be also charging a fee as the lockbox cover was broken! Ridiculous! I felt extremely frustrated and completely helpless; I knew that my driving had not caused any scratches, so these guys were clearly making things up or were just horribly mistaken. But what could I do? $585 is a lot; but the feeling of getting cheated is even worse. I left multiple voice messages to understand the situation and hoping that I get to talk with someone but no one ever called me back and I could never get hold of them. It seemed as if I was fighting a losing battle. Then a friend suggested that I call the credit card company and thank god for that! The credit card company decided to investigate the matter and finally I had hope! Surely enough, 3 days later, I get an email from Carls that after investigation, they had found that the scratches were pre-existing and they would refund $500 to me; however, they would still charge $85 for the broken lockbox! I guess they were expecting me to be happy for getting back the $500 and so let go of the $85 which was a smaller amount. I continued to fight them through the credit card company and finally, after a 40 day wait and arbitration, got the full $585 refund back. While I did receive the money back, it was still a horrible experience and I spent a lot of time correcting the wrong. I do not know if this is a common thing that Carls does to get money out from customers or if it was a genuine mistake on their side that they had not documented the pre-existing scratches before renting out the van to me; but either way, it was horrible service from their side. Net-net: STAY AWAY from Carls Van Rental. If you really still want to use them, then take lots of photos of the vehicle both before and after drop off. And ALWAYS USE A CREDIT CARD WHEN DEALING WITH SHADY COMPANIES. read more

Because our flight arrived after hours, Carl's van service parked our van at the airport parking lot. We walked up, accessed the lock box and drove off. No lines. No waiting. They are only 3 miles away from Orlando airport; being offsite keeps their prices low. The place next door to Carl's is shady, changes names every year or so, wants to upcharge you or even force you into an upcharge, got us stranded out at their location and refused to rent to us because they didn't want to take USAA insurance. Who wouldn't take USAA? USAA serves military officers and actually pays out when they are supposed to instead of fighting you. I left after the shady place next door both refused to rent to me because of my insurance and refused to refund my money after routing me to Hong Kong to talk to someone who would absolutely not be giving me a refund. I hadn't even planned on going to Carl's. I was going to walk with myself, my children, and my luggage half a mile away to a place I'd rented before... but it started raining. Anyone who has ever been to Orlando knows these aren't mild spring showers. The hand of God opened up on us and we ran for shelter. Carl's was there for us in more ways than one. They DO rent more than just vans but you have to call and ask in advance. They are SOOOO friendly. Zero hassle, 100% professionalism. First they offered me an umbrella thinking that I needed it to get next door. Then they told me they might have a car for me when they understood what had happened. They gave me a great deal. They were fine with my insurance. It was clean. There was a minor ding in the bumper than you couldn't even notice unless you were looking that I was worried they might charge me for, but they laughed when I called and said of course I wouldn't be charged, unlike the other places in Orlando that will charge everyone they rent to for the same ding again and again. They made something that is normally a huge risk in Orlando, dealing with discount, often fly-by-night, rental companies, soo easy. They are pros that suffer from being lumped in with all those horrid rental places. You have found a rare jewel if you rent at Carl's. When I returned the car, I didn't even have to go in the building and ended up putting my luggage right back in the car because they used the same vehicle to give us a ride straight to our terminal. They noted the mileage and the gas and gave me the receipt right there with zero extra charges. Easy and a huge relief after the other companies that rent in the same neighborhood. They will be my first go-to and hopefully my only go-to auto rental from now on in Orlando, and I'm here all the time (thank you Disney Vacation Club and a special needs child who loves Disney). read more

WARNING: YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR THE E-PASS "OPTION", ($4.95/day min) WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT. Don't bother getting change or stopping at the toll booths. There are some toll stations which ONLY take e-pass, and you have no option to pay in cash. There is one of those toll points you cannot avoid very close to Carl's location. You will get a bill on your CC later for every day of your rental period. I suspect that this is true of ALL car rental places. Carl's was 100% in every other way. Not really their fault. Good news: you can appeal the basic fee to the e-pass authority. In my case they waived the basic fee, but still charged me for the tolls, of course. Bottom line, you can't reasonably avoid the e-pass charge, so go ahead and take advantage of the convenience. read more

Carl's Vans in Orlando is truly the bomb!! We rented a Mercedes Sprinter from Carls for a weekend event. The paperwork was easy, the pickup was easy and we were off for a great weekend. When the van was sidelined by construction conditions - Carl's Vans really came through. With a 24 hour road assistance hotline, we were taken care of that evening immediately. As we headed out for our 2nd day, we were amazed that Cameron & Nicole had arranged for another beautiful Mercedes Sprinter to be waiting for us at our hotel the next morning. What a relief it was to be working with a company that has support systems in place when things don't go quite right. We could have been stranded but Carl's had the people, the equipment and the dedication to make sure our experience a good one. Writing the review quite late. We were there in July and rented a 9 passenger van. Believe it or not, the guy at the counter (weighing 900 pounds) fell asleep at the computer while punching in my license information. It took him 40 minutes to process the order. I got pissed and finally went around the counter and stood behind him to see why it was taking so long. Once I did that, he woke up and everything was a breeze. The van was in bad shape. The brakes were too jerky. The vents were broken. The steering wobbled beyond 55 mph. Price was the reason I went with them. You get what you pay for. read more

The only reason a 5 star rating wasnt given, was the mix up about my drop off which may have been my confusion, but the man I spoke to a day after I left the van in Orlando (at the Hotel we were staying at and with the key in the dropbox) was arrogant and rude, the opposite of Ms Pinero. I explained where the van was and that if I had made a mistake about the drop off I was sorry, but Roadside and the Office were emailed about the exact location. It was a short ride to the office where our van was ready to go. Quick paperwork and we were on our way.
