I loved going to Carl's Place back in the early 2000s. They came very highly recommended from several friends of mine with Porsche vehicles. I found a 1987 Carrera Targa for sale at Desert BMW. I had been told Carl's Place would do a pre-purchase inspection for me. The dealership salesman took it to their shop and left it there. They did the most thorough inspection I could've ever imagined! And at no cost! The entire experience with the crew exceeded expectations. I believe they had the car for at least two days checking everything out. They gave me a thumbs and detailed report, so I proceeded with the transaction. I now own a 2006 Carrera S Cabriolet. I purchased the car from a private owner who provided all service records. I took my new baby over to Carl's for an inspection anyway. They found a couple of minor recommendations, which I approved for them to do. With Carl's Place, I have been confident for 25 years that my cars will get the best care available. read more

if you value your car and money don't have these people work on it. I used them for a pre purchase inspection and negotiated a price for the car from their "expert" assessment. had my local shop look at the car when I brought it home and they pointed out major issues that these bozos missed that should have been noted. I paid $400 and all they did was look at it from the outside and played with the power windows. they totally missed that the brake rotors needed replacement. the shock towers were collapsed. the engine mounts needed replacing and there was rust in the engine area with the exhaust having extension rust and missing bolts. They admitted that my local shop did a great job of inspecting and taking photos (something they failed to do) and that they would talk with the tech. They never took accountability and didn't even offer to refund the inspection fee. The cost to fix the items they misses is well into the $10,000 range. read more

Met Ramon for the first time today. Not impressed. He and his shop have taken tens of thousands of my disabled veteran brothers money for over three years. When asked what they had provided for over 100 thousand dollars, they showed us some engine parts, parts. When I challenged them they called the police, whom I welcomed with my story. They said I had every right to be angry. I will post this story on every 911 sight I can find. Good luck on getting new business Ramon. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This place used to be great when I moved to Vegas in 2014. The latest work I had done was horrible. I went to them in November with transmission issues and told them to check the motor and transmission mounts along with a full transmission rebuild (2007 Cayman S 6-speed manual). A bit over $5K later, I took it home. And the rear axle immediately leaked fluid on my pristine garage floor. Back to Carl's, another $1.3K later the leak was fixed. Five months/2K miles later while driving in Los Angeles, my car would only go in first gear. The bushing on one of my shift cables was worn and had been held in place by bailing wire. Yes, bailing wire. So Carl's Place chose to use bailing wire rather than have me replace my transmission shift cables. The good news is that the mechanic in LA (King Harbor Auto Repair, which I also reviewed after this incident) told me that my motor mounts need to be replaced - the same motor mounts which Carl's Place assured me were in good shape. I was present when the repair shop in LA put my car on the lift and I saw the wires that held my shift cable in place for 5 months. Photos are attached. read more

Took my car here to get the brakes done and to replace my battery after my car wouldn't start 10 days after moving to Nevada. Not only did they do a great job, I had them replace the starter as well & the total cost was HALF what I was quoted at the Porsche service center in Newport Beach. Ramone was great & accommodating & the technicians were all very friendly & obviously know what they are doing b/c the brakes are better than they were when I bought the car & i'm not getting the squeaking I normally get when I put new brake pads on. Added bonus of being able to look at some classic 911's all over the lot (930's, 964's etc). I'll be back for sure. read more

Carls Place/ 900 Series Motorsport Review I have been a regular customer at Carls Place for about 25 years. My earliest receipts date back to 1998. I first started going to Carls Place after a friend recommended the shop. At that time it was owned by Carl Young and was the same size and in the same location where it is today. At that time I would have given the shop a 3.5 star rating out of 5. Unfortunately at that time Las Vegas did not have many options for Porsche service, especially the older classic cars. Most of the time when I took my vehicles in for service, they would get the job done fairly quickly although it was not always without problems. On at least two occasions I remember having my vehicles damaged. One time a glue gun was left if the luggage compartment and burned a hole in my carpet. This was replaced before I received the car back from the shop. On another occasion I had the front luggage compartment shocks replaced and the mechanic overextended the hood and dented the front right fender as well as damaging the paint. The shop never mentioned anything about the incident and by the time I found out it was already too late. Around 2005 Tony M. took over the shop from Carl and initially I thought it was an improvement in the way the shop was run. Tony left a good initial impression on me as being knowledgeable and helpful. Fast forward a few years and the quality of work as well as customer service have really deteriorated. They are unable to service your vehicle within a reasonable timeframe. When you drop your car off it is parked behind the building with no shade, next to a construction site getting sandblasted on windy days. The service advisor/office manager Ramon is the type of guy who likes to talk a lot but does not listen to you, so things don't get done as requested. For instance they recently put the wrong oil in my car because he doesn't listen and won't write things down. On a recent belt replacement my air intake box was scratched and scuffed up. When I brought it to Ramons attention he told me that the damage doesn't matter because my car in not "Concourse" condition. He brought out Tony to look at it and they both brushed the incident off. Nothing was done to rectify the damage. During my most recent service only 3 out of 5 service items had been addressed in the 2 weeks while the care was there. On top of that they send the vehicle out to another shop for a wheel alignment( which was completely botched). Vehicle was pulling hard right after alignment which Carls Place/ 900 Series tried to blame on the condition of my torsion bars. After taking vehicle to the dealer it turned out alignment was completed improperly. For reasons unknown Carls Place also disconnected my speedometer during that visit. According to Ramon it was working "bouncing" intermittently when he picked the car up from alignment shop, but couldn't have possibly worked at all since the cables behind the speedometer were reversed and it was not receiving power. The shop had no explanation for this. Very shady in my opinion. Since I had been a long time customer I decided to talk to the owner Tony before writing this review to express my dissatisfaction and hear his side. He was not receptive to any complaint of mine and told my to go find another shop. The opinion I once had of him went out the window and I lost all respect for him as a business owner. Absolutely no customer service skills! This is not how you treat a long time "regular" customer. Shameful! In my opinion this shop only has a chance of survival if: 1. They move to a new location in an area that is not as sketchy and where the customer has to worry about their car being vandalized, parked in the sun with no shade, sandblasted by surrounding construction. 2. They need additional mechanics (since the current ones are apparently overworked and seem to call out sick a lot). Larger building with more room, lifts, and shade. 3. New ownership and management who care about the customers needs. The current owner is on his way out. He is currently looking for a buyer and is hoping to sell the business to his service advisor/ office manager Ramon. If he takes over the shop will close in a matter of months in my opinion. His honesty is questionable at best, he doesn't value your time, communicates with customers very poorly and will not take responsibility. read more

Worst shop I've ever experienced took my baby in for routine service after checking them out and assuming since they only do Porsche this was a good shop boy was I wrong not only did they do the typical shady shop "finding other stuff wrong they messed my damn car up not admitting when they call themselves changing my CV boots they messed up the axles and lastly they dropped my car off the the damn loft and totaled my car worst part is the owner never called me I had to find out from their insurance company a full week later then lied and said the insurance company told them not to call me, yet they failed to realize the insurance company documented that they asked them several times have they called me yet. I brought my Porsche Cayenne here after it broke down as I was leaving Vegas to go back to Scottsdale AZ. I spent $6673.04 on engine repairs which took a couple weeks. An hour or so after leaving Carl's Place (after hours) on my drive back to Scottsdale the check engine light came back on. I took it to a Porsche shop here in AZ. I showed them my Carl's Place invoice. They said the issue that caused the check engine light to turn on should've been fixed at Carl's Place (it was on the invoice). I'm very disappointed and would like them to correct the problems that they said they fixed. read more

I got central rocking and alarm system problem on my 968. Since I had a bad experiences with another service shop who doesn't have good knowledge on Porsche, I tried to find a good one this time. Yep, I found the best one!! When I brought my car to the shop, Diana gave me a tour in the garage and back yard with full of the legend Porsch. From electric powerd 914 thru 944, 928 and 911s. Tony gave me a free ride back to my house and picked up when the car was ready. Brant did a excellent job on my car. He showed me every single broken pieces that replaced and explained what are those. I will go back again for the next service and recommend to all the Porsche owners to this place. read more

You really want to stay away from this place! Ramon will feed you a line that he is doing you a favor. I emailed Tony before writing this and he never responded. I am in the auto business for 39 years & have never been talked down to like Ramon did to me. After spending $1,000 to fix my top it never went down and on return to Carl's I was told that it was not their fault and it could cost up to $5,000 if I wanted them to proceed. I said I will pickup my car. When I arrived not only was it not ready but I was asked to wait for it. Ramon then came out & said it would be longer. I said to just give me my car. The back windows wouldn't come up. My mechanic found the broken piece for the switch on the front latch between the front seats. Wow ! Stay away! read more

I was visiting vegas and the waterpump went out on my boxster s. I called and spoke to Ramone. I got the whole spew of 45 years and this is what they do. Thats all fine and dandy, but when you "GOUGE" me because I am out of town that is total BS. I got charged pretty much for a 1300 for a 850 dollar job. Even google quotes 850 dollars. Ramone's line was, "I put you in the front of the line." LMAO, if I was at home I would have done the job myself. Its not rocket science to change a waterpump but he knew I was in a bind from being out of state. Here is the real kicker. I had him change the window regulator also and the window is loose so when I shut the door it rattles. I have to take that to my window guy in corona and pay extra cause they are pretty much incompetent. Also, with all their 45 years of experience they couldn't even put on my plastic undercarriage properly with broke off while I was driving my daughter home on the freeway. So much for that 45 years. I don't even want to deal with them directly. I will just sue for damages cause this place is not a place I would ever want to step into again. I have no clue why motortrend wants to do an article on such a sheisty place. read more

I had a problem with the trunk latch on my 1980 Porsche 924 turbo. I'm from out of town and had been touring this vehicle for long distances. I called the shop and asked if they could help me that day. Tony answered the phone and told me that I could come in right away as soon as I got into Las Vegas. Even tho they were busy/shorthanded that day, Tony helped me right away. It took a few tries and some expert Porsche wisdom from Tony and he was able to fix my problem right away. I only wished I lived in Las Vegas so I could have these great people work on my air-cooled 911. I recently had the experience of working with Tony, Diana, and Ramon as a result of my purchase of a 20 year old 911. What an exceptional team they were to work with. I had them do a pre-purchase inspection on the car that I eventually ended up purchasing in Las Vegas.. Because they knew the car and prior owner so well Tony told me that I could save money on the inspection and not do it because he knew the car was truly perfect. Since I have previously owned older Porsches and knew of the kind of unseen problems they can have I decided an inspection was still good insurance. As it turned out Tony was right. The only issues on the car were a difficult to lock glove box and a non-functioning dome light (resolved by the seller). As a result of my very positive interactions with Carl's Place, their reputation and their prior familiarity with the car, I decided to have them do some modifications to the car before it was delivered to me in AZ. They did an excellent job in every respect. Tony and Ramon kept me fully informed of the progress of the work throughout. The end result of the complex re-setting of the car to Euro or what is known as Rest of World height using OEM lowering springs was done perfectly with them setting the car to a lowered stance but not so low as to lead to bottoming issues, something that I had experienced on a previously owned 993 model Porsche. In every respect I couldn't be more pleased. The people at Carl's Place are obviously very experienced with Porsches and their love and appreciation of these cars is evident in everything they do. Absolutely the best I've ever experienced out of any automotive repair facility. Last November I took a working vacation to Las Vegas in my newly rebuilt 1984 Porsche Carrera. The morning I was to leave traveling back to California the car started missing and I couldn't get over 40 mph. Ever been on any LV freeways at 40 mph? Fortunately I was able to get back to my motel and get a room, which was in North Las Vegas and grab the phone book. I looked up Foreign repair and Carls just stood out from all the rest. I talked with Diana, who was wonderful and understood my situation and handed me over to Tony. He patiently listened to my woeful story and said to have the car towed and he would see what he could do. This was around 9:30 am. By 5 pm my car was ready to go and running perfectly. Tony drove to my hotel and picked me up and then explained in detail what had gone wrong, a sensor on the flywheel that was overlooked by the engine rebuilder. I was pleasantly surprised when he gave me the charges because I knew I had interrupted their day. It was more than reasonable. The best car break- down experience I've ever had in 55 plus years of driving and I was 500 miles from home. I sure wish I lived closer. This is what a repair facility should be. I came to vegas on a trip with the family on a 2009 Cayenne. On my way back to L.A. my driveshaft started acting up and had to come back to L.V. looking on Yelp found Carl's place. Tony is amazing and went an extra mile to help me to fix the issue. Unfortunately due to the short time and being Dec 30th it was hard to get the part I needed to get my Cayenne fixed. Carl's place is a porsche enthusiasts paradise! From the moment I first visited the establishment I was treated not just as a customer but one of the family. Tony the owner met me and before we even spoke about the repairs that my 911 needed he wanted to show me around. As we passed through the shop I was introduced to the mechanics and service writers. Passing car after car Tony would explain the repairs being performed and a little bit about each car. Pride in workmanship and the Porsche product were evident everywhere. Needless to say I chose Carl's place to do the restoration of my 1981 SC. It would be the best decision I would ever make. Ramon my service writer was texting and calling me to keep me up to date on the progress. Ramon was excellent with suggesting different courses of actions and providing service over and above what I would have expected. Pictures and Videos arrived often to visually display their accomplishments. When I arrived to pick-up my car, Brant the mechanic gave me a thorough walk thru pointing out work that was accomplished and particulars on my vehicle that I wasn't even aware of.
