I been going over there for 10 plus years, Carl is very nice guy. Sometime in the full get pretty busy due to snow birds is in town.

Good quality cut, that doesn't drag out. Always friendly and nice conversation during the cut.

The guy cutting my sons hair was super nice have no complaints about that but he got really really confused when I asked him to taper his sides and back. It's like I was living in the 50s lol but really nice read more

My husband has gone to Carl's for years and he won't go anywhere else! It's also close to our home, which helps. I think Carl's is a great 1- man business. read more

I just moved to Mesa and needed to find an old school Barber. I checked the Yelp! Reviews and Carl's showed up in my search and pretty much fit the bill. It's just a 2 chair shop, and Carl is the only guy there! He told me that mornings are his busy time, so afternoons are the best to get in there. (Luckily I got there at like 2) Carl is a pretty nice guy and does a decent cut for a decent price ($13 as of the time of this review) He does take debit cards, which my old barber never did (not saying that's bad) He's on an end unit, in a small strip mall and it doesn't look like parking is a big problem unless you're pulling a trailer! I get a haircut at least monthly, so I'll update should he slip up and run the clippers down the center of my scalp! read more

Needed a basic haircut nothing fancy. Found Carls through search. It was great, close and good service.

Great cuts & Great price. Its clean & up keep well. carl is amazing & such good hearted

Can't beat the price. Carl is a super nice guy, and gives great haircuts. Small shop in downtown mesa, parking was easy.

I've been a customer of Carl's Barber Shop for over 20 years. At Carl's you are a friend not just a client, he knows his customers and is very respectful of them. When my Dad moved to Mesa I said here is where you get your hair cut, he did and always enjoyed talking with Carl. I've moved out to Apache Junction and still coordinate my hair cuts with errands in Mesa so that I can swing by the shop. read more

Went to Carl's for the first time for a skin fade and he did a great job! Small shop but very clean and Carl was very professional and friendly. Very affordable and would absolutely recommend Carl to anyone in the area. Thanks Carl! read more

Great price, nice and simple haircut just what I wanted and expected. The place is nice and small.

4/27/2024 Cheapest and best haircut I've had in a long time. I have medium to longer hair, which is scary getting cut but Carl did a great job. Super friendly as well! I'll be back again. read more

First off, you can't get any type of haircut for $13! And poor guy has a sign justifying his recent price increase. The sign states "NEW haircut price, $13. I haven't raised my rates in 4 years and rent has went up." That being said, this is a very basic haircut. No frills, no straight razor hard parts, no warm towel, etc. for $13, it was worth a gamble and I can still afford to get another haircut at my regular guy. read more

UPDATE, 12/2021. forced by my wife to get a haircut the end of December. Carl was very busy as always but i did not mind waiting for my next. Carl gave me an excellent haircut & cleaned up my short beard. seriously i can not speak higher or give a better recommendation then to go to Carl's for all you grooming, children, women & grouchy old man like me! read more

Carl is a great guy and a master of his trade. With as amazing service as he gave and at the price he charged is hard not to go back when there's even a single hair out of place. The man knows what he's doing, he cares for his customers, and he loves his job. read more

I've always gone there with my dad he has always gone above and beyond. I come all the way from michigan to take my son there.

I was looking for an old school barber and I found exactly what I was looking for. Carl was fast, efficient, pleasant in other words professional and beyond reasonably priced for a high quality haircut. Carl is a great place to get a haircut. No appointment was necessary. read more

I absolutely LOVE Carl's Barbershop. It is exactly what you think of when you imagine a small town barber. Carl himself is one of the greatest guys you'll ever meet. He is always interested in what you have to say and your family. He always changes the channel when kids come in and he has a bin of dinosaurs and other toys for them. He gives a solid haircut, and compared to other barbershops in the area he is super cheap. At the time of typing this, he charges ten dollars, which is outstanding. Chain-owned shops charge $20, the women cutting hair don't give a fig, and they don't cut as well. Carl is an old school barber and you will leave thanking God that places like this are still available in America. I love Carl's and I think you will, too. read more

Very quick and efficient. I got in and out quickly, with a great haircut. Carl was affable and good at his work. Would recommend.

I'll start with the haircuts! Carl is amazing and he is always on top of his game. He gets the cut right every time and makes you feel heard. Besides the haircut Carl is amazing to talk to and always has nice things to say. I recommend Carl to anyone who's looking for an upfront and nice barber. If I could give 6 stars I would. read more

Had my beard trimmed by Carl today. Great experience. I will recommend him to anyone I know.

Best Barber on this side of the valley. I plan to make a visit to Carl's barber shop soon.

Great little barber shop. Carl is always friendly. I prefer keeping my hair relatively short so I am in here frequently. The shop is small, but Carl normally keeps moving through the people quickly so the wait, even while busy is normally not too long. read more

I'm new in the Mesa area and I needed a new barber. I had the same barber in Chicago for 20 years. Here in AZ, I wanted single owner barber with no employees that come and go. The same hands cutting my hair every time. My first haircut by Carl was more than satisfactory. He's a warm and friendly person too. I'm retired, so I found the barber for the rest of my days. read more

My husband is the pickiest when it comes to his hair and was sick of paying an absurd amount every 2 weeks to get it cut, so he gave Carl's a try. Carl did a FABULOUS job. He delivered exactly what my husband wanted and you can't beat the price. Thanks Carl! read more

I was working at my client's business down the road and had enough with my long hair. So after looking at the reviews, seeing how close he was located and seeing he only charges $8, I went to go try this place out on the spot. I have a few other barbers I would probably go before this place but I felt like taking Yelp risk and give Carl a shot! First of all this place is small, he has 2 chairs, not sure if he has another barber but Carl was the one and only guy there. As far as aesthetics, he has a little TV with local channels playing. There are ton of magazines that are dated but enough to keep you entertained. Then after a 5 minute wait on a Monday afternoon, he was able to sit me right down. We shop talked while giving me a haircut. I had one of the simplest cuts I've ever requested in my life so I can't say how well he does on something more challenging, but he said he has been cutting hair for 22 years and has been in this location for 20. Good enough for me. My haircut looks good. I've gotten a couple new compliments on the new style and again, it's only $8.00! He seemed shocked that I gave him a tip for more than $1.00 and seemed genuinely grateful. It seems a big part of Carl's biz is snowbirds since I seen nothing but boat sedans in the parking lot and the person in the chair when I got there and the person waiting when I left looked like they all qualify for the early bird special at JB's (what you know about that!). Either way, give Carl a try for your haircut. read more

Omg!!! So they are so nice! Made my my son feel like a million bucks! Thank you! His haircut was exactly what we wanted! It's cash only btw!

I asked for a flat top and got a crew cut, then good old Carl got agitated because he knew he made a big mistake. Never again !

Awesome with kids, knows what he's doing. Very nice guy! No wait time at all. Very affordable. 10$ hair cuts!!!

This is my third visit to Carl's for a haircut. I usually come with my 6 yr old boy. He always does a solid, efficient job. No time wasted, but he's not rushing, either. He charges $8, which is a great price. I don't live too close to this place, but I think its worth the drive. read more

He clarified things when they needed to be and cut my hair how I liked it. Also very friendly and seems to love what he does.

Very particular with my hair. My old barber retired and I was very worried about finding somebody else I could trust. Carl was absolutely amazing! He will definitely be my new barber! read more

I have been going to Carl for nearly 20 years. I will continue to go there as long as I am still kickin'. Absolutely no reason to go anywhere else. You get a great, fast, inexpensive cut. He visits with you if you want to visit. He is quiet is you don't want to visit. The shop is clean, easy to get to, and has all the basic comforts. And, he is a great guy. You can't beat the price or quality anywhere. If the light rail construction causes access problems in the future, you can get to his shop from the side street. You will be paying too much, and getting too little, if you don't go see Carl! read more

Been going here exclusively since moving to Arizona in 2005, I always get just a simple haircut, never a bad experience and the best price I know of. read more

Carl is one of the most personable barbers I've met. He truly enjoys hearing out other people's stories in life and always has something relatable to talk on. As for his performance on my head, I would say he did a pretty nice job. I was looking for something simple and easy, and he sure knew how to fulfill my needs. For an $8 haircut, I would say that it doesn't get much better than this. I will definitely be coming back here sometime in the future. read more

I frequent Carl's barber shop. I took my son there recently while he was here from Texas. My son was very happy. He enjoyed his conversation with Carl, and loved his haircut. Visits to Carl are always pleasant. He is very friendly and professional. I would recommend his shop to anyone needing a great haircut at a fair price. read more

Carl Wellman runs this one-chair barber shop in downtown Mesa and has cut my hair for about 15 years now. He's a sweetheart of a man and turns out 10 minute haircuts with military precision. I live in downtown Phoenix and Carl always makes me happy to make the trek to my old juvenile stomping grounds. read more

I'm here 1x's a week and absolutely love Carl's haircuts. He's lightning quick, ultra precise, and super reasonable. $8 for a haircut. I was paying double the price for 6 years with far inferior quality. Even up the block they're charging $12 for a cut. Go and support Carl. read more

$8 haircuts.. this $8 includes BEARD TRIMS! Tiny, no frills, shop, which is fine by me.... rarely a long wait, and Carl is super cool!
