This park is a bit old, but relatively well maintained. There is tons of free street parking around…read moreand this is one of the rare parks that are not pet friendly. The grass is cut are amenities are decently maintained. There are 2 tennis courts. They are pretty good and were very busy while I was there. It seems like that is the park's amenities that is the favorite and gets the most use. There is about a quarter mile paved walking/jogging trail around the park. That was getting a lot of use too. There is a lot of trash along the backside of the fence though. There are some benches within the playground area and scattered around the park. There are also some picnic tables around the park. The park also has a full basketball court. The court is in good shape, but one of the backboards and goals are missing. There is also a decent playground with two banks of swings, one for smaller kids and one traditional. There is a jungle gym with a slide and a thing to climb on. The ground is covered with a combination of artificial grass and wood chips. You will find restroom facilities here as well, in addition to a covered pavilion with picnic tables under it. You will need to make reservations for the pavilion The park has a huge baseball/kickball field that has a huge outfield that can be used to play Frisbee, soccer, football, catch and the like. It is well groomed and very spacious. All and all, this is a neat park. I would probably get there early because can get very hot out there and many people get there when the park opens to beat the heat.

Coral Pine Park is a charming and well kept 9-acre park in Pinecrest. It was a former Miami-Dade County park before being transferred to Pinecrest in 1998. Park amenities include a recreation center with an Everglades mural, lighted tennis and pickleball courts, an all-purpose field, and a shade covered playground. In addition to all of the activities in the park, Coral Pine Park is also a pineland preserve. Pineland is a globally endangered ecosystem. It is only located in south Miami, the Keys, and parts of the Bahamas. Pineland once covered 180,000 acres or 12 percent of Miami but by the time Miami turned 100 in 1996, less than 2 percent remained. Today only fragments of the Pineland remain. Pinelands contain 225 species of native plants, 20 percent of which are found nowhere else in the world. Five of the plant species are listed as federally endangered.

This is a 14.5 acre park located in Miami across from Killian High School named in honor of Ronald…read moreRay Ehmann (1940-1975), a beloved coach of the Killian Cougars before his life ended tragically in a car accident at the age of only 34. Coach Ehmann was known for his love of sports, physical fitness, and the out doors. At Killian high school he was a biology and physical education teacher before taking over the P.E. Department. He championed his students and before his passing he accompanied six of Killian's most accomplished athletes to compete nationally in the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test. A unique feature of this park is that it has a walking trail through seven acres of a preserved pine rockland habitat which is only found on the limestone terrain in south Florida and the Bahamas. The only trees that live in this habitat are slash pines along with an understory of palms, shrubs, herbs. Pine rockland used to cover 180,000 acres of Miami Dad County but after development, only two percent are left in public parks and preserves. During my walk through the preserve I spotted many Peter's rock agama lizards, an invasive species from Africa. They were first introduced to Florida in 1976 from the pet trade. Adult males have distinctive red heads and black bodies and can grow up to a foot long. Their range has been expanding and they are now found as far north as Jacksonville and as far south as Big Pine Key. Unfortunately they like to feast on Florida's endangered butterfly species like the Florida Leafwing and the gray Bartram's Hairstreak which also live in the pine rocklands. Scientists are currently studying the effect on the environment of these lizards and I was able to file an online report of my observations with the University of Georgia who is recording invasive species sightings. In addition to the nature trail park amenities include a basketball court, soccer field, softball field, bike path, quiet resting place, playground, outdoor fitness equipment, recreation center, tennis center and six lighted tennis courts. Winter, spring, and summer camps are offered in the park along with tennis lessons. This park is a respite of nature in urban Miami. Come out and play, exercise, bird watch, or just to enjoy nature. The park is open every day from sunrise until sunset.

You can find it near the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. At the entrance to the neighborhood is Wayside Park with it's dramatic medieval inspired towers. Also located in this neighborhood is the world-renowned Nicklaus Children's Hospital formerly known as Miami Children's Hospital, nationally ranked as one of the top Children's Hospitals in the nation by US News and World Report. This park is an urban open space, designated sites in the city which are over 0.1 acre and typically contain landscaped areas but no facilities or other improvements. These open spaces are places in Coral Gables that are designed to be aesthetically pleasing or to serve as a buffer to more congested areas. Typically they are used to contain some kind on monument, seating, or walkways. According to George Merrick who designed and built Coral Gables in the 1920's neighborhood parks were meant to be a "great garden set with houses, a park where all the people can live to the best of their capacities" Schenley Park is located in a depression in the ground. There are large ficus trees and oolite limestone boulders. There is no designated parking spaces. If you live in the neighborhood this park is good for walking your dog, exercising, or a picnic. However if you want to take some really great pictures head a short distance down the road to the fairytale towers of Wayside Park.

The Coral Way subdivisions contain a charming mix of Mission Revival Style architecture and bungalow homes from the 1920s, Art Deco style from the 1930s, and modest post-World War II homes. Bryan Park is a community park popular with children and adults. You will find the adults on the tennis courts which also offers lessons while children flock to the recently updated shade covered playground. The new playground equipment is inclusive and ADA compliant. Another great feature of the park is the outdoor gym equipment where you can work out for free. Also in the park is the Bryan Park Community Center where they offer youth programs and camps. The Kendall Hammocks Optimist Club dedicated Wild Lime Park to Al Engle who spent many hours volunteering in youth sports. This lovely park has a number of amenities to appeal to the community. These include a picnic pavilion, shade covered fitness zone with exercise equipment, a large shade covered playground, paved walkways, and lighted soccer field where a youth soccer league meets. During my visits a child was learning to ride a bike on the pathway, more kids were enjoying the playground, and a birthday party was being set up in the pavilion. The charming Wild Lim Park provides a peaceful, natural setting with well maintained landscaping. This park an ideal place for those looking to relax or enjoy some outdoor activities.

He must have quite the sense of humor to name his daughter Merrie. Not so funny was the fact that Merrie passed away at the age of 15 in 1969 and her father named the park in her honor. In 2014 the city of Miami discovered toxic metals at the park and shut it down for the next 2 years. Clean up of the park cost over a million dollars. Today the park is open and is a popular destination for the people who live in the neighborhood. The park has giant banyan trees and a large open area perfect for play. Other park amenities include an exercise path, picnic tables, and a playground. On the evening I visited people were having a party, kids were playing on the playground, and dogs were running across the lawn. This is a beautiful spot for the community of Coral Gables to gather.

The field is extensive so it's great for a group of people to play flag football, soccer & even for the kids to run around. They updated the playground a few years ago and it's a very intricate playground. The swings are great. I enjoy coming to this park a lot and hope to visit more often in the future!
