Carlitos runs a ghost kitchen specializing in breakfast burritos. It's called Early Bird Breakfast...NOT to be confused with Early Bird Breakfast Burritos in Costa Mesa. Two completely different places. And for good reason. What drew me here initially was the picture. Obviously, there's a lot of AI generated pictures, but this burrito was also named "The One". With a name like that, and a description like there is on Postmates, it should have been the one. It surely wasn't. I'll start with the only good thing that gave this place an extra star. The red salsa was actually good and did have the "scallions" that were not in the burrito. More on that in a second. The bad. There's a whole list: The price. On Postmates, the burrito is listed at $21.52. It was BOGO, but total still came to just shy of $30. The price is what kept me from ordering this burrito for a longgggg time. Kept seeing it, kept ordering other burritos for half the price. You figure that with the price, it should be a large burrito. Too expensive. The description reads "3 slices of crispy thick-cut bacon, sautéed chicken apple sausage, TRIPLE egg omelet, sriracha aioli, GOOEY American cheese, scallions, and Nashville seasoned tots". This burrito was literally none of that. It was a very sad excuse for the description. The burrito was small. The bacon was not thick cut. I doubt there was even 3 slices. The egg was a thin layer of what I assume was 1 egg, not 3. The cheese was your grocery star pre-shredded cheddar/mexican blend and tasted terrible. It wasn't even melted all the way because the shredded cheese was still shredded. I was expecting GOOEY American cheese. The sausage was tasteless. Both ends of the burrito had several bites of just tortilla. There was NO scallions, but there was regular white onion chopped up and thrown haphazardly in the burrito. And finally, the sriracha aioli. It was nothing close to it. A little squirt of mayo mixed with something that surely wasn't sriracha. All in all, major fail by this place in their attempt to run a successful ghost kitchen. I'm pretty fair in my reviews, but check the pictures and you'll see why I tell you to AVOID ORDERING FROM THE ONLINE GHOST KITCHEN. (Hopefully their food is better in the actual diner, but I'm gonna say it probably isn't since the ingredients are gonna be the same). False advertising. read more

It's Valentine Day and we are on the way home. No problem with making reservations as we walked into a balloon decorated dining area. The Carlitos Diner restaurant was empty except for one occupied booth and the booth for the two of us. Gaby took our order of #2 crispy beef Taco & Chili Relleno plate for the lovely missus and the Ranchero Burrito for me. We marveled at the decor and paintings o the wall during the preparation of our food. The background music was not too loud and a reminder of our trip to Cancun. Ah, the plates were a colorful presentation and the taste of the Chili Relleno was a winner for the missus. My Chili Verde filling of the burrito had a good mix of pork and fluffy rice and just a little hint of beans. The green chili sauce was a good way to "wet" the top of the melted cheese on the burrito. The food is reasonably priced and expertly made The service is fabulous My favorite meal is breakfast which has a variety of not just Mexican but also typical American breakfast dishes all of which are an incredible value and delicious cannot recommend this restaurant enough if you've never been here give it a try they are definitely one of those hidden gems that I think not enough people are aware of they also have a location in Huntington Beach which is more of an order at the counter situation whereas this is a full-blown sit-down restaurant but both are absolutely fabulous I would say my favorite thing on their menu has to be their breakfast burrito which is incredibly generous sized very reasonably priced and again just delicious. read more

We ordered Nachos and the Taco Tuesday special! The food appeared STAT! My girls was so happy with her Nachos. I tried to distract her so I could get a picture but she skillfully blocked me! I had I el pastor and two carne asada, plus rice and beans. Needless to say they were perfect and I inhaled them quickly. The ambiance is basic but comfortable, the room is light and bright. The service is like you are eating at your auntie's house. The food is terrific, the menu has all the diner classics and all the Mexican food you dream of. I was craving a crunchy taco for lunch, and the spot we used to go to closed, so I turned to Yelp tlfoe suggestions. I came across Carlitos - I checked with my coworkers and they weren't familiar with it, so we figured it was probably new. (*Turns out they had been there 3 years) I was surprised I couldn't find a photo of their crunchy taco, but I saw they had it on their menu. So we figured we'd give it a try. I ordered a shredded beef crunch taco, with rice and beans, a side of chips and salsa, and a small guac. The small guac was tiny, but we figured it would give us a taste, and it was real tasty. Their chips were really good - light and crispy! The salsa was ok - not too spicy, and real tomato-y. We really enjoyed the crunchy taco. The shredded beef had a really good flavor. And the rice and beans were good too - definitely enough to share. Overall, our lunch was tasty - we took it 'to go'. But I do have to admit that I was surprised that nobody was in the restaurant and it was lunchtime - maybe most people take their food to-go - ??
