Gateway. My father was at Gateway Villa for less than one…read moremonth. The Director assured us that his need for assistance with ADLs and getting to/from meals would be met. That was not the case. After the aides told me that the Villa is for independent living and the Garden is for assisted living, I asked the director if my father would be better off on the Garden building. She insisted the only difference between the buildings is ability to ambulate. Unfortunately, the staff did not know that and treated my father as an independent regardless of the fact that we paid for the highest level of assistance. I visited my father 5-7 times a week and he was becoming more and more withdrawn. EVERY time I visited, I found him in bed. Staff told me that he did not want to get up so they left him in bed. If he said he did not want to go to the dining room, he did not eat. At 8PM one night after missing dinner, he was found sitting in the dining room, obviously hungry. They took him back to his room unfed. He had nutritious snacks in his personal refrigerator and they did not get them for him. When I learned of this, the building manager told me direct care staff are not allowed to get the personal food for residents. Shocking. Direct care staff are nice and competent, but they are overworked. MANY days there was ONE aid for 30 residents. They count the manager, the part time med aide, and the dietary staff to meet their required staffing ratios. One aid was so happy when she finally had 2 days off in a row over Easter weekend. She said she had worked 15 days straight. While I was already seeking new arrangements, management informed me that my father wandered outside at night. I do not believe them as he was physically incapable of opening the door they said he exited. They also told me he needed placement in a nursing home. Nursing homes are for people who have medical needs that require professional nursing intervention. My father has none. He does not even take routine medication. He is often incontinent, wears depends, and is disoriented to time and place. Gateway Villa is a nice place if your loved one can live independently and/or needs minimal assistance. If you are told you have to pay for a higher level of care, I highly recommend you seek assistance elsewhere. My dad has been at Spanish Trails Assisted Living for 4 months now. They have excellent, happy staff who appear to enjoy their work. Despite this facility being smaller and very much like his home, my father has NEVER wandered into other's rooms or outside. When I visit, he is sitting in the dining or living room. He is happy and thriving. I no longer worry about his care. I know he is getting the care and attention he needs.

Sorry, we had mixed experiences with Lakeway mobility. Husband was first transported by David with…read moreno problems on the outgoing trip to the nursing home. Despite husband's Immobility and frailness, David managed to get him in the wheelchair and delivered him to the home. Great service! But on the return, another younger driver refused to help my husband to get back in bed from the wheelchair so he sat in it for an hour before his nurse arrived. They just 'dumped' him in the living room and also had a hard time getting the wheelchair up one step into the home. I understand the liability issues but their website gives the impression they will help with patients with mobility issues.

We have had an awful experience with the hospice company we are using, so in a panic I looked up local hospice options in Marble Falls this morning. Deborah at New Century was so kind to spend time with me on the phone, hear our concerns and give us some direction as to how to keep my grandmother more comfortable while we waited on our hospice company to return our call. She then had a nurse call me as a follow up, who told me to call her any time day or night with questions. And all this was out of the kindness of their hearts as it seems it may be too late to make a shift in hospice companies due to how rapidly my grandmother is declining. Our family wishes we would have looked up local companies ourselves rather than following the hospital's lead. We would have gone with New Century if that had been the case. So if you're near this area and in the unfortunate need of hospice care, I would encourage you to consider New Century Hospice. Because if they were so kind to us, imagine how great they must be with patients and caregivers who are paying them!

I have had two of their healthcare workers lie about me to the police. I received confirmation of…read moreit today and it makes zero sense why they would lie about something that would be so easily proven to be a lie. Avoid this place like the plague. When I asked management about their employee lying they said it was against HIPPA rules to ask her if she even did. Yeah ok. I was not asking for medical information I was asking for management to find out why their employee lied. I personally found it hard to believe both would lie but.......according to the police they did.

This is not a review on the care provided but only a review of the property as back in the dark ages (1981) I was a nurse at the old Shepherd Hospital which this hospital replaced several years ago. It's a beautiful, modern facility. It's an unusual configuration for a hospital. Lots of big windows and attractive waiting area. Best of all were the staff at the desk in the second major area I stumbled upon (I was searching for a room number that doesn't exist at this facility!) Included a very young man and a young woman. Very polite and friendly and A+ in term of helping me. When she asked me the name of the patient I was trying to visit and I told her she immediately searched their system and advised no one by that name there. I asked if they were networked with the other facilities in Texas and although they were not -she made a call and was able to locate the patient at their Austin Main Facility. Is that great customer service or what!!! Sadly I failed to get their names but they were part of the team that was working at 2:15 PM at the unit that seemed closest to the ER there. If anyone reads this that may know them please pass along this Kudo!!!! If you have to go to a hospital while you're in the hill country this one is readily accessible.
