Absolutely disgusting. Beyond disgusting. It reeks beyond belief in this vet office. I had to sign some paperwork and put my hand into a puddle of urine on the counter. I walked into the back with my cat and there is urine on the scale, hair all over the floors, and a horrible smell. Now obviously, this is a vets office and they will have some accidents and a smell from pets. That is to be expected. But not like this. I have since switched to another Vets office and it is 10x better. No overpowering smell, no urine on the counter, no hair all over the floor. Great veterinary facility for your kitties. I love that they are specialized in cats, it makes me feel more confident in working with them knowing they work with just cats all day, every day. The staff are very friendly, they care about you and your cat. I really value this, I have been to other places with some terrible staff experiences. It's great to know my little guy is in good, caring hands. The doctors are very good and knowledgeable, they handle the cats very well. I am very comfortable giving my cat to them, and trust in what they say. It's a bit of a drive from me - I live on East Avenue, but the drive is completely worth it. read more

I have had several problems with this practice: poor communication, a control-freak attitude and unfixed cats wandering around the place. First, a staffer insisted my cat needed a rabies booster even though she had the 3 year shot just the year before. The staffer was looking at my cat's rabies certificate at the time, so the mistake was irritating. Maybe she had dyslexia, maybe she missed the fact that the date on the certificate for the next vaccination was two years away - I don't know, but she was rude about it. Second, there was a problem with the strength of my cat's medication because of a pharmacy error. The pharmacy called Doctor Hartman when they found the error. Doctor Hartman told them it was o.k. to keep my cat at the wrong dosage. No informing me; no consultation about what I wanted to happen to my cat, nothing until quite a bit of time passed. In fact, once the pharmacy corrected the dose at MY insistence, my cat did MUCH better. Dr. Hartman's communication skills were poor at best in this instance. Third, one time Dr. Arnold was seeing my cat, who is an escape artist. She started taking my cat out of the carrier without making sure the doors to the exam room were closed. They weren't. I jumped up to close them and Dr. Arnold scolded me for doing so. She told me only the techs can open and close the exam room doors. She told me to sit down. It is unacceptable to be scolded as if I was a child just because I was concerned about my cat's well-being. Finally, this office has several unfixed show cats who wander around the waiting room and exam rooms, peeing at will. That is the source of the stink others have complained about. Sometimes the staff gets the deodorizer out and sometimes not. Because of that smell, my cat was always on her guard - I mean to insane levels. It can't be helped that there are other cats in carriers in the waiting room, but why add to the stress levels with pee smell in the exam rooms, back room, and waiting area? Cats are extremely sensitive to the smell of other cats' urine. This vet practice should know that. I have switched to another vet who really does care for cats and I and my furbaby are MUCH happier. read more

Dr. Arnold and the new vet are amazing vets who really care about their patients. However, after about a year, I have decided to take my cat elsewhere for a few reasons. Most importantly, every single time my cat leaves this office she has FLEAS! she is an indoor only cat who is 17 years old and up until last year when i first brought her here, she has never had fleas. Everytime we leave the vet i have to brush my cat out to get any fleas and then give her a bath. Also, anytime i call trying to get my cat in they say they are busy and can't see my cat for weeks, even if it is an emergency (my cat has kidney disease so their has been quiet a few times we have had emergencies) There is also a lady at the front desk who is extremely rude to everyone who walks in. Lastly, they over charge for medicines. They charged me $110 for a small medication and then i found it on Chewy for $70. It is very said because both of the vets are amazing read more

Didn't want to give any stars but I had too in order to write this review.!!! Please do not be like me and go to this place just because of the name "caring for cats" because Dr Hartman did the complete opposite with my cat Bootsie. I came in there a month and a half ago because my cat needed to get back on her thyroid medication, she had been off of it for 3-4 months due to me moving and not having enough money at the time to just take her to a new vet because that would be at least 100$ and up to get her thyroid levels checked, so as soon as I saved money to take her, I found this vet on google, The name sounded great because it seemed like they're dedicated to just cats, and the reviews seemed ok enough to bring her, well as soon as I brought her in Dr Hartman said that Bootsie was very dehydrated and that I had to get her on iV immediately so of course I got emotional because i wasn't expecting that, so I did what I had to do and left her over night then the doctor called me the next day and said Bootsie's thyroid levels were very high and that we need to get her back on the medication, so she asked me what was the dosage boots was taking before so I told her 2 5mg pills a day but that of course was when boots had more weight on her so she told me we're going to put her back on the 2 pills a day and bring her back in 3 weeks to check her levels again. So I thought nothing of it and got happy cause I got to take Boots home that night and boots was so happy to be home she was being normal purring, eating, then the next day I started to give her the 2 pills a day, like the doctor prescribed! later that day Boots started acting weird, she started pacing, meowing like crazy, very restless, wouldn't eat or drink water nothing.. I got very concerned I tried everything to get her to eat or drink,, she just wouldn't so it was Sunday evening and I figured I would wait tell the morning and bring her back to Dr. Hartman to see what was going on. Unfortunately that morning I woke up Bootsie was gone, I was devastated. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the two 5mg pills were just too much on her kidneys and for her only being 4 Pounds. Yes I feel guilty for having boots off of the meds for that 3-4 month time span but I still think now, that the doctor should have started her at a half a pill a day until she got her weight up and then put her back on 2 pills a day like she was before, All in all the main thing that disappointed me the most is when I kept calling to speak with her to get closure to know if that could of been the cause, a few different receptionist said they would have her call me, & she never called back or even said her condolences, and I feel like she knows that was the cause and just doesn't want to deal with it.. She seems heartless and It's very unfortunate because Boots was an old lady but I think she still had another year or two left in her. So please if you love your cat as much as I did really do a thorough review search and have some type of knowledge behind your cats condition and side effects of the medication they might prescribe because if I had been more knowledgeable when she told me to put Boots back on the 2 pills a day of Tapazole. I would of said. "That's too much, shouldn't we just start her at a half a pill a day, because she's only 4 pounds." I just went a long with it because she's the Doctor and knows what's best, & obviously that killed my little baby. read more

The only positive aspect of this office is the technician named Bryan- he truly cares about the cats that are seen here and has spectacular customer service skills. Hartman(she is not deserving of the title 'DR') has zero compassion, zero customer service skills and in my opinion, poses a hazard to the health of many cats. She is disinterested in her patients, disrespectful to their owners and because of her reckless behavior, our cat has lifelong challenges that could have been avoided if she JUST DID HER JOB! If your cat needs blood or stool sent for testing, please ask for the actual lab report, do not take the word of the unpleasant receptionist who calls you with the results. Your results may not be as 'negative' as you're told- either because the samples don't actually go to a lab or because the office can't be bothered to set up a treatment plan for positive results. A technician was also noted as saying 'When will people realize that some cats are not worth saving?' to another employee..with a waiting room full of people! How do you work in veterinary care with that attitude? That you would say that while standing at the reception desk further concerns me for what you actually do behind closed doors. Remember that as your pets owner, YOU make the final choice on their treatment. Please do not allow the actions or opinions of the miserable people in this office to compromise your cats life. read more

This past Monday I took my kitten to Caring For Cats to get spayed. After not being notified of when she was done with her procedure and ready to be brought home (I was only told 6 hours later that she was ready because I called to check on her) I picked her up and received no briefing or explanation on how to care for her through her recovery, was not given a cone, was not given any pain meds, she was not even stitched at the wound, only glued. Yesterday (4 days later) I noticed that she had ripped out the glue holding her wound together. The wound was infected and swollen to the size of a golf ball. I had to rush her to emergency care where they had to immediately put her under anesthesia and redo the entire incision, this time twice the size of the original because the skin was so infected. It took 4 hours and over $600 to correct the bad work done by caring for cats. I'm sitting here next to my poor kitty, scared and confused, watching her suffer through this process for a second time, and my heart is aching. I tried to call Caring For Cats to discuss my frustrations and talk about how to resolve it, but nobody answered the phone. Seems as though nobody over there likes to do their job, as this all could have been avoided if it were done properly the first time. Safe to say I will never be bringing any of my pets back here. read more

I went to caring for cats the other day to put one of my babies down. She for a long time had issues and came to become 14 years old so I had to do what was best. I've been there plenty of times for both of my cats. I've read plenty of the reviews on here and I have to say, I didn't notice a smell whatsoever. I have a sensitivity to that too so I would have noticed. Maybe they had an issue in the past but must have gotten it under control because it was clean and odor free. I would like to point out I gave my review 4 not 5 stars. Most of the times I've went, my vet was dr. Hartman (the redhead). To be completely honest, I would have given my review 3 stars if it weren't for the amazing girl who was assisting the doc in the euthanasia because she was amazing. She took the time out to offer a paw print of my baby girl on a poem and even started to tear up. She was so nice and comforting which is much, much more than I can say about the vet. She got in and got out and every time I said something the look on her face was like she couldn't believe I was saying something, like I was bothering her. Like I said, I've brought my babies there for years and she was the same every time. Maybe thats just who she is and she wasn't silently judging me, but she in my opinion seriously needs to work on that. Putting my girl to sleep was the hardest thing in my life I've ever had to do, thank god for the wonderful girl who was there because I would have left there most likely wanting to blow the place up. I love Caring for Cats. I love them so much that I drive from North Winton/Main Street neighbor all the way out to the north edge of Greece, near the parkway. Dr. Arnold is fabulous and the staff is always so helpful and responsive. This week one of my fur-babies needed to be checked for an allergic reaction to food. We were in and out very quickly, and with minimal fuss from my cat. I also love that when I had to let one of my babies go 2 years ago, the staff was incredibly compassionate and very supportive as I made the difficult decision, counseling me on the phone before and after the evaluative appointment, including calling me back before office hours when he took a turn for the worse overnight. They were patient as I said good bye, and didn't make me feel like I was holding them up from other appointments. A few days later I received a sympathy car with a hand written note, which made me feel like I had made the right choice. They really are the best, and the resident cats that traipse around always make me smile and feel comfortable about how much the people who work there just really, really love and appreciate the royalty of the feline kind. read more

Our one and only visit to Caring For Cats is probably one of the worst vet experience ever. This place is filthy disgusting, smells like urine... the personnel at the desk took a solid 10 minutes before acknowledging us. The least I can say is that the first impression was not a good one. Once with the vet (namely Dr Hartman), things only got worse. She not only was rough with our cat (poked at his neck 6 times to draw blood, blaming our cat having thick skin!!!), she seemed annoyed by any question or comment. After diagnosing our cat with a serious condition, she expressed absolutely no sense of urgency though our cat ended up dying less than a week after visiting with her. I probably could have been understanding of the filth and smell if I had found a dedicated and compassionate doctor... but Dr Hartman's demeanor was a definite no-no. I will never set foot in that place and again and I strongly discourage anyone to do so. read more

This past February we had a kitty get sick. He was 1.5 years old. He came down with a cold and never got better due to a FLV diagnosis. Dr. Hartman was very involved with treating our kitty and tried everything. Even though we were back 5 times we only paid for an office visit 1 or 2 of those times. The other times were "re-checks" and we only had to pay for tests or meds. This type of place is unheard of. When we finally had to make the decision to put our kitty down, Dr. Hartman and staff were very kind, understanding, and professional. We even received a sympathy card from Dr. Hartman a week later. Thank you Dr. Hartman for helping us through such a difficult time. read more

Today makes my fifth year of bringing my long hair cat for grooming and vaccinations. I have always found all staff to be very caring and helpful. The grooming job is great and they seem to specialize in the "Tiger Cut". I am very particular when it comes to choosing a Vet but I have no cause for concern at Caring For Cats. read more

I've been going to Caring for Cats for a few years now and I've been to a few other Veterinarian's and with the exception of one of them and one Vet Tech at another Office, I've got to say that the Staff at Caring for Cats is by far the best at meeting a cats needs! I've read most of the reviews about this place and at times, yes I have smelled the odor of urine occasionally(maybe 2 -3 times). I've smelled the same at other places also! The vet tech's there are extremely proficient in their duties. Dr. Hartman is one of the best Veterinarian's out there :-) :-). Very professional and dedicated to helping cats. I've been working at an animal hospital for 5+ yrs so I have high expectations when it comes to the care of our pets. My mother in law has been a client of Dr. Arnold's & her cat Missy is 16 yrs, 7 pounds, has hyperthyroidism which has been regulated for years. On Thurs, Missy began to act lethargic, stopped eating (so she was unable to give her the thyroid medication). On Saturday she continued to act lethargic, vomited, fever of 105, & still not eating. On Monday she brought her to the vet & they noted her having a fever, gave an antinausea injection, antibiotic, Metacam (a pain med toxic to cats),SubQ fluids & sent her home. The next day she had continued to decline, still not eating, & fever had gone up so we went back to see them. I was trying to explain that Missy had not had her thyroid med in 5 days & I wanted to know if this had anything to do with her decline. Although before i could get out my entire sentence, Dr. Arnold had yelled "I DON'T CARE! IT DOESN'T MATTER! Cats can go without it for a few days!" I had no clue this woman yelling at me in her street clothes was the doctor. I asked if we could have an appetite stimulant for her and she agreed .When we got her home she was ataxic, drank a TON water but had not been urinating. The following day she was declining, tachycardic, & hadn't moved much. I told my mother-in-law that this might be the time to start considering euthanasia. Obviously this is a hard decision to make but since Dr.Arnold didn't want to have the quality of life conversation with my mother-in-law - I had to do it. We called the vet at 2:30pm & they told her to bring in right away. We get to the vet right at 3pm & told Lisa we might be euthanizing. We sat in the waiting room crying for another 30min. The receptionist looked at us & said "are you guys waiting for something or..?" I looked at her &said "Yeah, we had a 3pm appt w/Dr. Arnold, we already let Lisa know we were here 30min ago". Finally they put us into an exam room &left doors wide open so we could hear all of the chaos going on around us. I told the Dr how Missy has still been declining, she has become very ataxic, fever is increasing, not eating, labored breathing, and now excessive thirst with barely any urinating; she was truly suffering. Dr. Arnold offered to try another antibiotic injection; at this point I was frustrated. I told her we are honestly here to make a quality of life decision, this cat is suffering. I'm shocked that this veterinarian who specializes in cats would honestly think a 7lb 16 yr old cat with hyperthyroidism, who's declining in front of our faces - would actually benefit from a different antibiotic? Dr. Arnold has never once offered to do blood work, or diagnostics. Immediately after we decided to euthanize, Dr. Arnold gave an IM injection for "sedation". At my hospital we place IV catheters when owners want to be present. IM injections take ATLEAST 10 minutes to set in. After she gave the injection she was ready to administer the euthanasia solution. I stopped her & asked for both her & the receptionist to give us some privacy so we could spend some time before euthanizing her. At this point I closed the exam room doors which were STILL open and very loud, but maybe 45 seconds later - Dr. Arnold rushed back in and tried to euthanize her. Apparently that was all the privacy we were allowed since she immediately came in with the solution and grabbed Missy's arm to begin the process. At this point I stepped back, I wasn't going to press for more time with our cat if this doctor was that cruel to not let us have even 10 minutes alone with her. Dr. Arnold noticed I was crying & she said to me "you must see this all the time...right?" she said it as if she's shocked I'm showing emotion since I see euthanasia's every day at my own job. After she passed we were saying our goodbyes in the room, a lady said we needed to leave &go down the hall to a different room. So she carried Missy's dead body through the waiting room full of people to a room down the hall and around a corner. The room she brought us to had cat litter all over the floor, and I was sitting next to a huge industrial garbage can. Lisa took out the clippers & began shaving Missy paws right in front of us in order to make the ink paw print. I would never consider doing this in front of the owner as it can be graphic when trying to manipulate her limbs for the prints. Lisa did such a horrible job making the pawprints. I am disgusted with how they turned out because you can't even tell that they are paws. As if our horrific experience with this hospital isn't enough, 3 days later the receptionist called to check in and see how Missy's doing. We actually had to INFORM Caring for Cats that we euthanized her AT THEIR HOSPITAL. I'm appalled by how they treated us & how uneducated the staff is. A GOOD vet should take the time to explain the illness and explain why euthanasia is a good decision. By far most careless cat hospital. read more

The "evil" Vet is the finest i have ever had, I work in rescue so i bring my fosters in as well as ALL of my own cats...the compassion, knowledge and generosity is beyond equaling...I was sent a support card when i lost one of my cats. I have 15 cats and have been taking them to Caring for cats since my cats adopted me starting 9 years ago. I cannot say enough nice things about this practice. The staff are all incredibly nice and accommodating and will do their best to fit you in for an emergency. Dr. Arnold is the owner of Caring for Cats and has a wonderful way with your furbabies. She really knows her stuff and has saved a few of my kitties. Dr. Hartman isn't as warm and personable, but she also is a very good diagnostician. She is very business-like and quick, but takes very good care of your baby. I had completed a very thorough search for a veterinarian for my cats and Dr.'s Arnold and Hartman are not only the best, they are the most reasonable as far as cost is concerned. The one thing I am extremely pleased about is their attention given to pain control. Whereas most other vets will send your kitty home the day the are spayed, they keep them overnight wearing a pain patch. If you are looking for the best place to take care of your cats, Caring for Cats is the best. read more

Not impressed. Had our second visit today (wanted to give it another chance after the terrible first impression) and unfortunately it was worse than the first trip. The entire atmosphere is very unpleasant, and no one seems to have any time to help or answer questions. I liked the fact that they specialize in cats and read great reviews, however that is not enough to remain clients. We've seen both vets and prefer Dr. Arnold, but neither were up to the quality we expect for our kittens. I drove 30 minutes there, arrived a few minutes early, and then had to wait 45 minutes to see the vet. It wasn't busy, and someone even came in after me but was seen before me. I'm very compassionate and understand that sometimes things get backed up or there are emergencies, but this was ridiculous. Not only for me, but for my poor kittens that were cooped up and scared for over an hour. No one greeted us when we walked in, and while we were in line a man came in crying, carrying a cat who had obviously just passed (so sad!) and they didn't even acknowledge him or what he was going through! Terrible. After waiting 45 minutes to see the vet, she spent a total of 5 minutes with us and talked down to me the entire time. Sure, I'm a young cat owner (21) but don't deserve to be talked to as if I'm her child being scolded (for doing nothing wrong, may I add). Whenever I asked a questions about the health of my kittens, best food to transition them to, how to avoid fleas, etc, she gave me a rude, short snarky response and seemed annoyed that I dare ask questions. Extremely unprofessional. She had the audacity to tell me that because I had some leftover, I had been giving the wrong dose of medicine to one of my kittens...and then cut me off before I could explain that I followed the vet tech's instructions precisely (our kitten was only 2 pounds at the first visit, so we were instructed to give half a normal dose due to her size, which she would have known if she had read our chart). Even if I had been doing something wrong, there is no need to criticize a client and treat her as if she's an idiotic child. I was extremely offended, and before I could say anything or ask any questions about further treatment, she said "Okay we're all done here, thanks" and walked out the door. I'm a very understanding and easy-going person and I hate to write bad reviews about any business, but everyone there needs to work on their customer service, bedside manner and overall attitudes while we the clients are trusting them with our sweet animals. It honestly seems as if all they care about is getting your money and pushing you right out the door. They charged us a lot of money for an exam (in addition to a bunch of other BS charges) which literally consisted of taking my kitten's temperature and putting her back in the cat carrier. They did a full exam on one of my kittens but not the other, and charged me for both! I called to see if this was a mistake and they said a full exam was done, and didn't believe me when I said all the doctor did was take her temp...even though I was there the whole time and watched it occur. Unbelievable! We will be finding another vet immediately! read more

I faithfully go to Caring for Cats. Never once had an issue with offensive smells. One time I did detect a slight odor of something that was not exactly French perfume, but that was it. One time. So I do not understand the comments about the urine stench. The Vet we see(Dr. Hartman) might come across to some as hard and uncaring, but she's never been that way with us. I believe she is simply a no-nonsense Dr. that does her job and does it well. She doesn't pussyfoot around, that's for sure. I like that in her. Never any wondering what she's thinking or what is going on. As for the other staff, they are the icing on the cake. I have to leave my baby there when she is groomed and it's a difficult thing to do! Yet, because of the loving care she receives, I'm able to do so without a worry. I had actually took her to another groomer once because I didn't want to leave her and it was a nightmare! They cut her nipples and hurt her terribly! I had to report them ( of course). So, back to Caring for Cats and no place else. For Vet care and for grooming. It's the best! read more
