I've been a client for over a year and spent thousands. They let my rabbit pass away and treated me like me and my rabbit meant absolutely nothing because the vets were busy, they were closing soon, and many other excuses and kept telling me to call other places. The other places didn't have an exotic vet in the office I called everywhere even in neighboring states. My rabbit had labored breathing. I brought him in because it was his LAST CHANCE and they called the police on me while the lady at the front desk had a smirk on her face. He died within less than an hour or this. They then sent me my rabbits vet records via email 20 mins after he died. I never got an apology and got banned from going. I got a free first-visit voucher from Lollypop Farm that I used. I love how smooth the visit was. My rabbit was absolutely terrified on the way there (she hates being in moving vehicles), but very quickly decided to come out and explore the clinic. Since I'm a new rabbit owner, I had plenty of questions for Dr. Hach, like how to pick my skiddish rabbit up, how to cut her nails, diet, etc., and she answered them all. Even in Covid times, when scheduling gets crazy, and changes in routines make everything a bit more stressful, the doctors and staff here are always professional and pleasant. No matter which vet works with my cat, I'm always kept in the loop and feel like I'm involved in my kitty's care. Occasionally, when I feel like there's an urgent need to make an appointment and they are booked, they will refer me to other offices within the Monroe Veterinary Associates group and are able to share records with them. But, Cats and Critters is our home base. I've never had a problem getting the care my cat needs. It is also easy to make appointments and order meds or food through their mobile app. so you can free up their phone line and save yourself some time as well. read more

I will share some facts about my experience here. My rabbit had visited this clinic for 16 times from 2020-2021. Yes, I spent a lot of money here because I trusted them and I loved my rabbit. I would have done anything to keep him healthy. He died at 1.5 years old. He died young. It took the clinic between 07/09 to 07/23 to just report me a blood report where his liver value SGOT decreased from 82 to 13. He died on 07/22. One day before he died, the doctor was in office and I had a call asking for the blood report which came out on 07/20, yet no one checked for me or told me about it. The day after, Ace died. Would you like a clinic who takes 13 + days to deliver a blood report? If I didn't ask for it after my rabbit died, I wouldn't know when they will actually give me the blood report. Could take them even longer. Cats & Critters has also been difficult to me during the autopsy process and cremation. Just because I asked why they didn't tell me about the blood report, they dropped my client status when my rabbit's autopsy was still ongoing. Cats & Critters did not provide me a chance to purchase a good cremation service. Never gave me an expectation as to how the cremation will look like. My cremation arrived with film of ashes on the surface of the bag. I communicated this to them, yet they blamed it on Cornell. This whole time, Cornell refused to communicate with me because Cats & Critters, as the referring clinic, was actually in charge. Now Cats & Critters failed at helping me get a good service or stay informed. Be careful with this clinic. It seems like, your pet stops mattering for them once your pet dies. And once you annoy them because you want some honest answers, they drop you as a client. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! Huge change from vets I have previously been to. The entire staff from receptionist to veterinarian was helpful and welcoming. I have a bunny and was pleasantly surprised that I had little explaining to do regarding her. They handled her very well and made her and me feel extremely comfortable and at ease. My bunny had her yearly checkup and a nail trim. She's a bit skittish around strangers but they handled her perfectly and the vet + assistant worked effortlessly as a team. They answered all my questions and didn't push any unneeded services on me. Their prices were also completely reasonable and I will definitely be coming here for all of my bunny's future checkups. I have experienced the same dental-cleaning merry-go-round with these people, and I get the feeling that it's a 'racket', too. I just resist whenever they bring up the subject, and actually have resorted to doing dental cleaning at home on my 2 cats (with varying degrees of success...). Still, I do have to give them credit for dealing with my diabetic cat on a regular basis, and at least there aren't any yapping dogs in the waiting room. I was slightly nervous to bring my 2 cats here after reading some reviews, but I wanted to give it a try since it's right in my neighborhood and I'm so glad I did. Whenever I bring them for checkups they are always well cared for and they can manage both cats with no problem in the same room, despite one of them being an awful patient. I never feel like they're pushing unnecessary treatments or services or that they aren't getting adequate care. They are also always happy to answer any questions over the phone when I call in. This past week I had to bring my younger cat in for a lower urinary tract infection. They let me bring him right in when I called and watched him all day until his symptoms began subsiding, and they kept me in the loop the whole time (the extra fee to watch him all day was nominal too). They were so empathetic and walked me through all of his care instructions in detail. I felt so comfortable leaving him there even though he was in pretty rough shape. I have been bringing my kitty to Cats & Critters for a year and a half, and have always received above-and-beyond care. The receptionists and vet techs are super friendly, and always remember my cat. The veterinarians are thorough, knowledgable, caring women! I recently had a kitty emergency requiring an unexpected overnight stay, and one of the vets actually called me after hours from their home to check up on my kitty. The office itself houses a few big, loafer cats :) and sells various food, treats, and toys (including some unique items I cannot find in chain pet stores). They are conveniently located for city dwellers in the Park Ave Area (and this is IMPORTANT, as my kitty cannot stand more than a few minutes in the car at a time). This vet is a little pricey, but I think you will find that at all good vets. All in all, C&C is a wonderful, cat-friendly vet office. read more

Absolutely love going to Cats & Critters. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgable and always keep me reminded when cat has to go in for his yearly exam. I have a "scaredy cat" and he is always put at ease with the vet and doesn't freak out when he's there. He loves his visits to Exam Room 2 because it has a window looking to the outside where he can see birds playing out front. I've been taking my dear old cat here for about 4 years now and have been very happy with the care she's recieved. I love that they are small--so both doctors and the staff know me, and my cat. Yes, they are part of the Monroe veterinary collective, which seems to fix prices, making them a little more expensive than independent practices. I have been provided with free samples of medication. They have taken my sick cat in when no appointments were available. And when she was first diagnosed with pancreatitis, they housed her when I had to go out of town. Later when she became diabetic just before I went on vacation and the petsitter backed out, one of the vet techs offered to fill in at the last minute. I know another of the vet techs who delivers supplies to an elderly owner so she doesn't have to brave the admittedly difficult parking lot. It is due in large part to the great people at Cats & Critters that two years after falling ill, my cat is happy, relatively healthy and holding steady. read more

As a long time client, this is the email I just sent them : I just have to let you know how sad and disheartened I am that you can't find time for Chewie until November. I would think there would be some work around for the "critter" part of your clientele, given that they don't show symptoms until they are half dead. There's no doubt in my mind that Chewie won't survive the week, and that she'll suffer. What are we supposed to do? Euthanize her ourselves?? Yes, I called other places, no they won't see us. Needs better customer service: I called a day ahead for medicine for my rabbit. I rushed in today before they closed and the medicine was not ready and the vet was busy. I waited almost 1/2 hour and still no meds so I left. Their receptionist needs to me more proactive. She just sat there with a vacuous look on her face. I have paid hundreds of dollars for their time and services but obviously my time is not valuable. I have worked in the health field for 30 years and nine years as a manager and know what good customer service is. If I was working there this would not be happening and there was not even an apology from the vacuous receptionist. When I called to bring my rabbit in for a later date, the manager confronted me over the phone making excuses for the problem with picking up the medication rather than apologizing. She also told the parent company that she had discussed the problem over the phone with me which she never did. When people are paying for a service and one that is expensive you cater to the customer even when they are difficult. This is why Wegmans had been so successful. The vets are thorough and know their stuff and also gave me the option for things like blood work telling me the costs up front. So the problem is not with the vets. There was also one receptionist who was just wonderful. They also sent me a nice card when my bunny died. So I would recommend them for smaller animals like rabbits as they have expertise in these areas. But make sure they are upfront with you on costs, and challenge poor customer service when it is appropriate. read more

Local vet in the park ave. area that my cat has seen for three years just for regular yearly checkups. I've always had an unsettling feeling about the vets here and my last appt. there put me over the top and I will not be returning. My cat has some swollen gums caused by a little gingivitis and I was told that he needed xrays, a dental cleaning, and possible extraction! I felt a little rushed and pressured into making a date for this estimated $400-700 of work so I said I wanted a second opinion. I took my cat to another place that I trust and they said he was fine, just buy some dental care food! Quite a difference in opinion and price! He's not due for a teeth cleaning for two more years...Everyone was nice and pleasant but they did a crappy job of explaining things to me and rushed into trying to schedule all this unnecessary work. My prairie dog got sick with a simple urinary issue. They ran tests found crystals in his urine and told me to just keep him hydrated and prescribed an anti-inflammatory and then an antibiotic. Over the span of three visits (for each of which i was charged a full appointment visit fee) i spent around $700 but he did not get better so i went to another dr. the next dr i saw said the crystals would not go away unless his Ph level was brought down to a normal range allowing them to dissolve and creating a normal environment within his bladder. with the new treatment he immediately began to improve and after a couple more weeks was 100%. spoke with cats & critters regarding charges i incurred and lack of progress from their treatment. i was refunded a measly $35 for one of appointments (which wasn't even an appointment he was just dropped off and sat there for hours with no communication to me). when i discussed the charges with the vet and went over what happened with the next dr i saw she refused to believe they did another wrong and said that dr was wrong his ph level (which was 8! should be around 6) was fine. despite that fact that we was completely fine AFTER seeing the next dr she refused to accept that their treatment was not adequate and dismissed everything i told her about the treatment he had received elsewhere. now almost two months since the last visit there i have found they accidentally charged my credit card which was on file because my name and number were so close to another client. complete crap will NEVER go to this vet again even if that means i have to drive 1.5 hours to Buffalo to see a vet that can treat my exotics. read more

This is the BEST veterinary practice for cats!! We've been patients for a long time, and will always be. Near where we live, there are five veterinary hospitals (I can walk to one of them and have used them all), but I choose to drive into the city because of Dr. Couture and Dr. Hach. A cat cannot tell you what's wrong, so a great doctor with good diagnostic skills is essential. Look no further! Sure, we've had some expensive bills, but when I bring one of my precious cats here, I am confident that he will receive top-notch treatment. Everyone who works here really cares. I don't know what we'd do without Cats and Critters. Dr. Couture and Dr. Hach are experts in small pet care. They frequently go the extra mile--staying open late so we can squeeze a diagnostic visit in for one of our guinea pigs, sitting on the floor with our feisty bunny buck when he won't cooperate, and procuring new medical equipment to try out a less invasive surgical procedure on our cat. We initially found them looking for a local vet that had the equipment and expertise to ethically put our first rat to sleep. They are extremely knowledgeable about exotics and pocket pets, including compassionate end-of-life care. The vets are never pushy and always let the pet parent decide how to proceed with medical treatment. They have saved or prolonged the life of our pets many times. All of the staff are friendly and warm and they take exotics very seriously. Over the years, we have brought 2 cats, 5 rats, 2 bunnies, and 2 guinea pigs to them. Their prices aren't inexpensive, but they are comparable with other MVA offices in the region and you get what you pay for. We wouldn't take our furry family members anywhere else! read more

Love love love cats and critters! I've been taking my pocket pets here for nearly ten years and recommend them highly. They are always willing to squeeze a sick pet in, and are always empathetic to my pets and their needs. I've even seen the staff tear up when I've lost one, and its always nice to see that they really care. When one of my beloved rats passed in emergency surgery a while back, the staff were so caring and kind, despite the situation. They ushered me in a room while I waited for his body so I didn't have to wait in the waiting room, let me take one of their wonderful kitties in the room with me to cuddle, and Dr. Couture herself brought me his body and gave me a hug. They made me both clay and ink paw prints, and even though I had some outstanding charges on my account (not from the surgery itself, that was waived, but from medication earlier in the week) they didn't even bring it up, just mailed it to me later in the week - I also noted I received the sympathy card first. Yes, they may be a little more pricey than other places, but they are a specialty hospital. They are set up in a way that is comfortable for your cat or small pet, and they have tools, instruments, medications, and experience that other places don't have. I have taken my pocket pets to different vets on two occasions : in one my pet ended up passing away, all they could do was to send us home with medication, they didn't have the tools on hand for more extensive treatment (like nebulization or hospitalization for small pets, both of which cats and critters is equipped to so), the other time, the vet wasn't able to give me the medication flavored for the small pets and made medicating them a pain - bottom line, I've stuck with Cats and Critters ever since! read more

My 10 year old cat fell ill on March 21, 2014. I contacted my vet to schedule in an appointment and due to my work schedule they were unable to accommodate an appointment and based on what I was told my cat was in need of immediate care. Mind you, I pay a monthly fee to bring my pet to the vet I usually bring her to. Services there are covered by "insurance" and "free of charge." I called multiple places to see if anyone could fit in my cat, and Cats and Critters business hours actually lined up with my work schedule. I called and they were extremely concerned about my cat's condition and told me to bring her in immediately. Even offered to let me drop her off, seeing as I was at work. I left work brought Lola to there facility and was told I would receive a phone call in a short while. Sure enough, I received a call stating my cat was hostile, and they wanted to sedate her with a tranquilizer to calm her down, do a rectal exam, and a urine screening. I asked at that moment "how much am I looking at? I do not want to get hit with a big vet bill in the end." The vet responded "$60.00" I gave the go ahead, and the vet assured me that anything that came up from the testing, or further action would be discussed via phone call. Two hours past and I received nothing, so I had a friend call for me because I was at work. My friend was told that they were waiting on the testing and that they would call back shortly. I was called and informed that my cat had something going on with her bladder and was told a couple different directions to go from there. I opted to go ahead with antibotics and asked at that point how much they were. I was quoted $15.00. I then said OK and verified that the $60.00 of work earlier and the $15.00 from the antibotics were my charges. She then apologized for "misleading" me into thinking that the charges were only $60.00 and in fact my total was $250.00. I was astounded, and said I was under the impression that I would have received a call if the charges changes at all. She then dropped the price to $200.00 when nothing was infact taken off of the bill, she just changed the total. Just like that. I said I would discuss this when I came to pick up my pet. When I arrive there I was pulled into a side room and they went over my charges with me. I told them I understood that there was a miscommunication, and when I was called and requested a total I was told $60, and not told at all about fee's they applied to my bill. I told them that I have a vet, and I pay good money there for my services. They were unable to fit me in, and although my services would have been covered there I opted to bring her to Cat's and Critters based on the sole fact she needed immediate attention. I specifically asked about charges, because if I was quoted what they were actually going to charge me I would have waited until the next day to bring my cat to my own vet where it would have been covered. The manager then said "fine." Discounted the bill to what I was told my bill was going to be. I was then informed that they would not fill the script for my pet only write one out because of their error!!! They refused! I was polite and said that I understood and that I would bring the script to my own vet. I was brought up front squared away the bill..which was at that point written out to under $200 when they had told me $250 over the phone. They marked a refusal to pay reverse charge on it as well. I waited for my pet to be brought out and when she was I was then verbally attacked in the lobby. The woman said to me "we dropped everything at the drop of a hat to get your pet in here today." I said "thank you, I really appreciate it. I do not want you to think that I dont. I also said I understood about the miscommunication and would recommend them to anyone who asked." She then accused me of knowing how much the visit was going to be, and claimed that I knew how much services like this cost. Which, I in fact do not. Which is why I asked over the phone. She then stated that I brought my cat there because it was "less expensive then my current vet." I told her I make good money, and was not trying to pull a fast one one them. I also defended my vet, and stated that they are actually CHEAPER! I was treated horribly, quoted the wrong prices, and accused of being a con-artist! Never in my life have I ever been treated so poorly at a facility. They failed to take any responsibility for their misleading price quotes, and accusations they threw at me. I am truly appalled by this company, and its employees. read more
