I ordered a salmon Alfredo, of which the salm9n was extremely undercooked. The thinner end is where I stared eating and QUICKLY realized it wasn't cooked throughout! When I raised the issue with my server, she sent an older woman over who asked if I wanted it cooked more. And that is was simply under cooked. NO BIG DEAL! I LOST MY COMPLETE APPETITE ​! Eating undercooked salmon can cause food poisoning, resulting in symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. These illnesses stem from parasites (like Anisakis) or bacteria (such as Salmonella, Vibrio, and Listeria) that are only killed when the fish is cooked to an internal temperature of Potential Health Risks and Symptoms Foodborne Illness: Symptoms typically appear within 6 hours to several days, including severe stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. After years of loyal patronage at Cariera's restaurant, I'm deeply saddened by the treatment I received during my last visit. Not only was I shocked, but also disappointed to notice inconsistent pricing for the same dish across several visits, including unexpected open food charges on my latest check. More distressing however, was the owner's aggressive and verbally abusive response, my polite inquiry led to a violent verbal outburst from the owner. This establishment is no longer welcoming, and I cannot justify supporting a business that treats its long-term customers with such aggression. Truly, a disappointing end to a place I once loved. We came to this spot for my husband's birthday. I haven't been here since 2017. I remember coming here and the food being amazing! I'm not one to leave bad reviews but after reading a few others with similar experiences, I decided customers should know before they dine in. Customer service was amazing but the food wasn't. We ordered minestrone soup which was flavorless along with the bread. We order the spinach dip which came with toasted bread and these herb flat bread pieces. Whatever oil they put on the bread, tasted rancid and the spinach dip taste better on its own but was lacking flavor as well. My husband ordered cheese and sausage pizza, daughter ordered lasagna and I order the manicotti. Upon the first bite, I held it in my mouth, chewed, my brain processing what exactly the extremely unpleasant taste I was experiencing. It tastes like chemicals. I managed to swallow it. My daughter and husband were both like, " it can't be that bad." They both tried a bite and had the same reaction. I never send food back mind you, mainly because I've never experienced food that tastes so bad. I did however have the extremely nice and apologetic waitress, take it back to the owner. The owner came to our table and apologized. I told her it taste something like chemicals and she asked me if it had a sour taste to it. That might have been the case. She said sometimes the ricotta cheese goes sour. They tried to offer me another meal but I declined. I lost my appetite at that point. I did tip our waitress $15. She was extremely sweet. My daughter' s lasagna was dry, cold, oddly flavored. My husband pizza was room temperature and again, oddly flavored. Unfortunately, none of the food we order was any good. This will be a birthday to remember for my husband. I don't think we'll be headed that way after this experience. read more

I have to give this restaurant 5 stars because my family has been coming here for nearly 30 years. I realized that I hadn't reviewed this restaurant. We stopped in on a Tuesday night for my birthday dinner. Our server, Andres, was very nice and attentive. I ordered what I almost always get, Pollo rollantini. It is 2 chicken breasts filled with spinach and cheese, rolled, breaded, and fried. Served over angel hair pasta with garlic, mushrooms, and white wine. So delicious, definitely 2 meals out of 1 dish. My boyfriend got gnocchi with Bolognese (which was a sweet sauce), and he thought the gnocchi were good but would have maybe tried a different sauce. We got the sausage, peppers, and onions over eggplant for an appetizer (very tasty and a pretty good lower carb idea). I also got a gin and tonic (I just wish the carbonation was better). I took a tiramisu to go for later, since I was so stuffed. 3 servers came out with a cannoli with a candle in it and sang to me, that was very sweet. read more

Food and services excelleave it around for a long time. Since the 1990s and I think I would always go back. There, there are amazing people. They are very tough to work for but they're strict and they keep the place in immensely spotless. They had me as a waiter there for a little while as well as one of my good friends was there for a long time. We both talk highly about chef, Tony and his wife. read more

I learned from my last visit here, A while ago, but I should not come with any colleagues that I don't wanna share a bread oil dipping sauce with, never concerned me until my last visit here. One of my former colleagues kept dipping and re-dipping into the same oil with the bread slice he had taken a bite out of previously. I had to explain to him a few times that you dip once and you're done. He didn't know the concept of double dipping. We ended up having to get him a separate bread plate with his own oil and dipping sauce. In the years where I used to eat more gluten, this was one of my favorite places in Dearborn for dinner or lunch. I haven't been here in a little while now. They still make really good homemade bread that you get with your meals. I used to get a penne or spaghetti with the arrabbiata sauce which is the spicy sauce. When I lived in Dearborn for six years, this was my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. They did have some of the better pastas and sauces at the time. My ex used to love this place and thus we used to go at least once every two weeks or so. It's great to see that they offer gluten-free pasta's now. I will have to come back and try out some of their gluten-free pasta's in the near future. I also used to really like their house salad, it was simple but their dressing was really good. I also would get their caprese salad, which is also good. For Dearborn, this is not a bad Italian restaurant. I would definitely come here if any colleagues of mine were craving Italian food. read more

What a wonderful place! Cathy accommodated our large party last minute and we were so grateful for her kindness. The food was unbelievably delicious. I ordered the manicotti and eggplant combination plate. The ambiance was great. Hailey and Joey were our servers and they they so prompt despite how busy they were. I typically don't like to dine in with a large party because it can be an inconvenience to those that want a nice quiet dinner; but everyone loved their food so much. It's so nice to see a good restaurant nowadays stay busy. This place is such a hidden gem in Dearborn Heights. Can't wait to come back again and again. read more

I would not recommend for anyone to seat down at this restaurant because the service was very awful. The boss of the restaurant who has black hair was extremely rude. The reason is because when I ordered soap for me and my gf they were very cold. So the waitress told them to reheat it up and so the boss came in a rude attitude stating that the food is extremely hot and that we are bringing the food now since the soup was cold. Then when bringing the food to the table the boss decided to touch my napkin to try to put it on my lap like I was a child and didn't know how to have propped dinner manners when I was waiting for my food. I brought my girlfriend here for a late night dinner to celebrate her birthday. We have come a few times before and I have always enjoyed it. The restaurant is nice and very Italian if that is a thing. They have a nice size bar and the dining room isn't huge, but big enough to hold bigger tables. The staff is always so friendly and makes you feel welcome. We were seated right away and put in our drink order. Our waiter was great and friendly. We ordered the sausage with peppers and onions with eggplant for an appetizer. Highly recommend this appetizer cause it is very tasty. Enough for a few people. I ordered the gnocchi Bolognese and my girlfriend ordered the chicken rollotini. I thought the bolognese sauce was a little sweet, but still a very good sauce. The gnocchi themselves I really enjoyed. The chicken rollotini is a very big entree. And tastes great. The chicken is stuffed with cheese and spinach over a bed of white pasta. Highly recommend this dish. The bread they serve with the meal is also very good. Three servers did come out and sing happy birthday to my girlfriend which I thought was extremely kind of them. I've been to Cariera's several times since my review in 2010. It's never the first place I think of and that's for a reason. We've determined there are only a few good dishes on the menu, with the seafood and alfredo sticking out. I tried a couple new entrees in recent visits and just wasn't impressed... The chicken Parmesan and canneloni were both letdowns. The parm was soggy and the canneloni was stuffed with flavorless meat and topped with lackluster cheese. The service isn't a high point either. The servers (who tend to be mostly older men) aren't very friendly. On our last visit, my waiter asked how the meal was and I was honest - I was expecting more from the canneloni; it didn't have much flavor. He just said "Oh, yea, that's not one of my favorite dishes on the menu." No offer to get me anything else or a small discount on the bill. So it just sat on my plate. I hate wasting money. If you're looking for a great dish of fettuccine alfredo, this is your spot. Otherwise, I think I'm done giving them my hard-earned cash for mediocre dishes. read more

My husband and I have been going to Cariera's for awhile now. We have NEVER had a bad experience. Our food has always been perfect; cooked just right, hot and very tasty. The owner and the staff have ALWAYS been attentive and gracious. The 'crew' at Cariera's is engaging, attentive and very friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant. So we're knee deep in the middle of a pandemic- 8 weeks in to be precise. My first gripe was that they didn't have curb side delivery like every other restaurant does right now.. Cariera's makes you go inside and wait for the food which I thought was unusual, but ok. I went inside and was absolutely blown away when I looked around and noticed that not one single staff member was wearing a mask, including the cooks in the back handling and making the food. I'm sorry. This is absolutely unacceptable. For one thing- Michigan has an executive order in place that says masks are mandatory for everyone! And second why would they think the executive order doesn't apply to them and where the hell do they get off not wearing masks while touching my food!? Horrible. read more

Gave it one last chance because I met two friends that were dining there. I had frutti di mare with the white wine lemon butter sauce. It was delicious and their creamy Romano dressing has always been one of my favorites. I had an unpleasant experience last time. Sure enough though the next table had questions about a dish and out marches the owner lady I had a problem with last time. It's like she's just standing in the wings waiting to chew someone out. It's really not about what she says... it's how she sais it... just always very exasperated and irritated sounding. I almost feel sad for her.It must suck to be so unpleasant all the time. Definitely no room for that in the service industry.My dinner was really good. I would've given it four stars but I can't because of the atmosphere. If you read other reviews it seems as though being nasty to customers is very common place with this owner. Nasty like she throws people out...Maybe that's why the restaurant was virtually empty the entire time we were there. The food could be the greatest thing on earth but if I don't feel like my business is appreciated I don't care how good it is. Atmosphere is everything!! We got there around 530 only a few cars in the lot, excited to be there. We got sat right away. And then we sat and sat and sat, mind you there we only 3 other tables of small parties in the entire restaurant. 3 servers and we sat. I went to Cariera's last night. I sat on the patio and ordered one glass of wine before dinner. The bartender sent the wrong wine. The waiter acknowledged it and took it back for replacement. Ironically, gnats ended up in the replacement glass. I walked to the bar and as I waited for the bartender to come over, she immediately stopped helping a customer and became irate towards me. She never greeted me or asked my purpose for standing there. She proceeded to yell about having to pour three glasses of wine. When I told her about the gnats, she brushed it off saying "why is that my problem?" The waiter came over and apologized saying "she's just stressed." By the way, SHE IS THE OWNER. I went back outside to explain the situation to my dinner companions. The waiter then came to us with more apologies but said the owner didn't want to serve us and asked us to leave. We were in complete shock at the blatant disrespect and lack of consideration. This owner is rude and has no regard for her patrons. I won't be going back. read more

Ordered through DoorDash which I do often with multiple restaurants. Never had an issue like this with food ever. Spent $120 and the food was awful. The spaghetti was soupy and all watery. The fettuccine was hard and all stuck together my husbands order was missing items. I tried to call ahead to explain our first time and I did not like somethings I was transferred to 3 diff people put on hold in the middle of talking and was met with a defensive attitude like they never make mistakes. By the end of the call the owner told me to shove it to shove my complaint that they have been there for 30 years .... Extremely unprofessional attitude and clearly someone who doesn't know how to handle people. Wasn't looking for money back or replacements just wanted them to hear my issue. read more

I would absolutely not recommend this place. $80 bill. $10 food. Frozen seafood. Pasta is not fresh. They're not even making their own pasta here, what kind of Italian restaurant is doing this? I knew something was off when i sat down at the table and they had dirty shakers full of that cellulose cut shredded parmesan they sell at Kroger. What kind of Italian restaurant can't even be bothered with real parmesan? The sauce is supposed to be made in shop according to our waitress, i question that. Wasnt very good anyway, tasted like if it was made in house, it had to be a month ago and left unrefrigerated in an open vat next to the trash or something lol. I mean i couldn't eat it. I had simple spaghetti with meat balls, my meat ball was literally like a pound of meat loaf and it tasted bad, smelled funky, like it wasn't rotten, but it was on its way there. And it wasn't seasoned well at all. Service was bad. Tables were dirty. Im bored with trashing this place, take your chances here if you want. The mussels with tomato sauce were actually kind of decent, and honestly they might've only seemed ok because everything else was so bad. That's the only sort of plus i have for them. I ordered the chicken Marsala, through door dash. When I received my order, it was simply two pieces of chicken and no pasta. My assumption was that there was some type of error, considering I paid over $18.00 for the meal (which is the exact same price listed here on Yelp). When I called the restaurant the manager I spoke with was very rude. In an incredibly dismissive manner, she said all of their items at a la cart, and that there is an up charge for pasta or potato (which is not highlighted in the app). She even accused DoorDash of adding to the cost of the dish, even though the price is exactly the same as listed here. I will never order from them again. read more

My wife and I were headed to a Yelp Elite event at The Rusted Crow Distillery in Dearborn Heights and we needed to stop somewhere for dinner since we were coming from a long day at work. So, I started looking on Yelp for restaurants near the event and found Cariera's. Italian sounded good to both of us so we decided to give them a try. Also, the 7% cash back through Yelp was an added motivator to stop in. We were greeted quickly and our drink order was taken right away. Our server, Jeff, brought our drinks out right away and answered any questions we had. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and my wife ordered the Pollo alla Sorrentina. I love Eggplant Parmesan but it can be a crap shoot at most Italian restaurants as to whether it will be cooked properly or if it will arrive mushy, chewy or drowning in sauce & cheese. I was pleased when the Eggplant Parmesan arrived and it seemed to have the right amount of sauce and cheese. Cutting into it, I was further pleased to see that it was served hot and that the eggplant wasn't mushy. With the first bite, I realized that it was cooked properly and that we had found a new Italian restaurant to add to our short list. My wife sampled my dish and was also pleased with it. Her dish, Pollo alla Sorrentina, was served hot and was a generous portion. The chicken was tender and the white wine reduction sauce was tasty without being salty or overly sweet. Both dishes were served with our choice of sour or salad. During our stay, our server checked on us several times and always made sure our glasses were kept full. I didn't have a good experience I ordered the lobster ravioli with a white Parmesan sauce and it taste like something frozen and that came out of the box the sauce had no flavor to it at all. whatever was inside the ravioli was it dry and didn't taste anything li lobster. if I wasn't there to meet friends from out of town I would've left . I ate two raviolis off my plate and the next morning I regretted it. For that to be one of the most expensive entrée on the menu, I found it to be awful. this restaurant could use a visit from chef Ramsey. read more

We decided to try this place for the first time. I hate to say it but we are probably never returning. To start, we were severed flat soda twice until we just resorted to water. I asked the waitress wether she recommends Alfredo or the shrimp scampi and she said the scampi was the best dish. My husband got the chicken parm over a bed of angel hair. Both of our entrees were awful. The angel hair was so hard I've never experienced anything like it before. I asked for a lemon wedge and the waitress literally brought me the smallest slice, like what could I possibly do with that? We barely touched our food but took it home anyway. It used to be one of the better Italian restaurants in the area but then the owner passed away and his son took the reigns (he jacked the prices up, cut down on the portions and diminished the overall quality to save a buck) and nose dived the place quickly. Nothing about the food is authentic anymore and as testament to other reviews on here, quality customer service is non existent. Cariera's didn't blow me away. With that being said I did leave with a full belly and no complaints. I love Italian and this is the real deal no doubt about that. We found ourselves here after a glowing recommendation from elderly Italian born folks, so I'm sure this is authentic. The ambience is classically dim and romantic. It did have an old vibe but I mean that in the nicest of ways. I'm just saying it's not trendy or decorated in a modern way. The guitar player and his soft jazz really added a nice touch. We had a party of 9 and for most of us this was our first visit. After leaving no one said anything about the food or the experience and there was no lingering factor. I will mention that the bread was outstanding! The house made salad was a standout as well. My niece thought our waiter was stuck up, I think he was just stressed. It was very busy. It took him forever to bring us anything we needed, and when he did he seemed rushed and annoyed. Would I come back to Carieras? Yea why not. Will it be my idea? No probably not. There's plenty of other Italian restaurants out there I want to explore and I don't like to double dip in places that don't linger in my mind. All in all I give 4 stars. I absolutely love the food and the service EXCEPT FOR THE WOMAN WHO ANSWER THE PHONE for carry out. She is so awful!! I can't imagine she helps the business in any way. She was incredibly rude to my husband who called to make a carry out order at 5:15 pm on Mother's Day, saying they were closed when they've advertised they would be open until 7:00 pm a few days before. No apologies, and absolutely no professionalism. This is not the first time my family has encountered her bad behavior. We are long-term customers and we want the business to thrive, so PLEASE keep that awful woman away from customers. She's poison. read more

Given the reviews I was expecting more. We went in after a tough day at work for both of us, looking like stressed out wrecks (me in my audit wear, which is not very business like) but in pleasant enough moods. We got seated by a friendly guy and then came our waitress, wooden and just not welcoming. We gave her our drink orders and she brought them out after a few minutes with a plate of olive oil with some finely crushed red pepper bits. No bread though. It took us a minute to decide. She seemed impatient so I explained it was our first visit. That did not thaw her a bit. When she returned again, still no bread, still with the blank stare. I asked about the soups, she said they had smhmd pepper. I said wha? I couldn't hear that. She looked at me like I was a moron and said slower, smhmd pepper soup. I looked at my husband, clueless, he shrugged like "hell if I know". I ended up with a nice-ish salad instead. The creamy romano tasted nice and homemade on it but the lettuce was fairly cheap and one note (I like mixed greens). My husband ordered pepper soup despite not knowing what the hell he was getting. It turned out to be stuffed pepper soup and it was quite good. We giggled about it though. We finally received our bread with this course. The bread here is good but the second basket we got later in the meal went hard really quickly, like it had been nuked. I know the ways of nuked bread, I often heat up leftovers. This bothered me though. I don't like when they microwave the bread, it's lazy and I am not paying for leftovers dining in, I want first run. I have a tip for our waitress too, if you do not feel like refilling our glasses do not give us pop in wine glasses, use big kid glasses or pour us a pitcher and we can refill our own. Leaving us without beverage is the surest way to annoy my husband. James ordered a combo meal of canneloni and fettuccine alfredo for his main. He and I each liked both but we loved neither. The canneloni was nice and meaty. The tomato sauce on top though was agressive and on the acidic side, very little herb or garlic. For a *baked pasta* it was anorexic on the cheese. The alfredo sauced fettuccine made him happier, not too gloppy, the pasta was nicely al dente and the dish was rich without being overwhelmingly so. I had the tortellini san vito, tri colored with sausage coins and roasted red peppers in a parmesan cream sauce. Mine was tasty, I liked the herbage in the sauce and that it was not super thick. The sausage in it was meh, not really anything to impress me at all, fairly bland. It could have used more red peppers too. The serving size was a plus as I ended taking half home. It reheated tasting the same as first round. We ended up getting cannoli for dessert, one plain and one chocolate covered. They came out icy cold and a bit hard. I prefer that to soggy though. It tasted fine but not freshly made (nor freshly filled on site). I wish I had remembered Debbie's review. If I had paid less I would have been less picky. I think the waitress added to the dissatisfaction as well. I debated between a two or a three but decided the waitress was what was pushing me to a two and decided to give Cariera's itself the benefit of the doubt.
