I definitely recommend trying this place when in the area. It's quick when you take it to go. The food is all out in front of you and you just tell them what you want and they pack it up. The food is delicious, the chicken was really tender and flavorful and the juices combined well with the rice and beans. Plantains at times were a little dry. The empanadas are good and flavorful. My MIL & I had lunch here on a whim & had a great experience. My Spanish is rusty, but between a super friendly customer and the staff, we got recommendations and explanations of the different options. I don't know the names of everything (it was busy at lunch & I didn't want to be a pain), but we enjoyed some rice and beans, pork, and some fritter-type options-- one with cheese and one without, and one filled with meat. I would have liked the option of a relish, salsa (or similar) to offer some acid, lightness and contrast to the base foods, but maybe you have to ask for that separately. I hate eating with plastic cutlery, and I'm not a fan of styrofoam (I know it's cheap but there are better options), so those were my only real complaints. I really like this place. A group of us came here for lunch and it was the best meal all week! When you come in, there's a buffet area with a selection of all the meats that they have that day. There are also items that are made to order. In addition to that, you can call ahead and they will have your order ready to pick up. We sat in the dinning area. It's not a huge dinning area but nice and clean. I got the mofongo with carne guisada (basically a beef stew). The beef was so tender and just fell apart and the while stew was really tasty. The mofongo itself was delicious, you can tell it was well seasoned. And I have to say, they have very generous portion sizes. I've been going to this place for years, before the new restaurant. Everytime I go in there the customer service is disgraceful, because I'm not of Spanish decent. They are highly discriminative and I would Let it go because the food is good. After my treatment yesterday I'm never going back and I've been a loyal customer for years. Now I've been there for ten minutes, so I said nicely"excuse me may I place an order" she tells me to hold on she is busy. That was so rude and disrespectful to a customer. Yesterday was my last time in that place. I'm not putting up with the rudeness, also if you place an order and you don't know how to pronounce the food. You get rude looks as if they are annoyed. I absolutely love this place! I'm never disappointed with my food. I always get Spanish rice with either the fried pork bites or the cut up pork ribs. The staff is always friendly as well. I get the take out since I live close by I walk there with my daughter and she loves the food too. She always wants to go to the pork & rice store lol. I often visit this place for great take out food or to satisfy my hankering for the delicious fried appetizers like empanadillas and Alcapurias, but I recently used them for catering a party I had my home. I was very pleased with what we received! The portions are generous, the quality excellent, and the service was great! I haven't been at these restaurant since my friend Thomas was part of it, and today when I went in I had the worst customer service ever, after looking at the food in the counter 10 seconds later, they were rushing me to make a decision, so I did, I forgot my tray and ask my girlfriend who was still ordering g for it, and for only that 5 second pause the guy brought up an attitude cause we were taking I guess too long, when the whole transaction wasn't even a minute long. I've been here 3 times just to give them the benefit of doubt (in case maybe they were just having a "bad" day the first time) The food is ok, decent. The floors are dirty and stick to your shoes & most tables all 3 times I was there were dirty with food and trash on them The service is absolutely terrible. Unless they know you, you will not be acknowledged except eventually to ask you what do you want to order. The alcapurrias here are very greasy, be prepared to have a squirt of oil with every bite. The 1st time I came I ordered to go. I wasn't greeted or told to have a nice day but the food was decent and I ate at home anyway so whatever. The 2nd time I sat in, there were only about 4 customers there, I had to clean my own table, I ordered my food brought it to my table, ate and left. The music was extremely loud & 2 songs had explicit profanity. It was 12:05pm on a monday. The 3rd time I went on a Sunday afternoon, a woman who worked there asked if we were there to eat in or take out, then seated us and actually handed us menus. The prices on the menu were higher than those on display at the board where the food is. There were also items for cook to order on the menu that are not readily available at the food counter. When we arrived there were 2 people seated and 2 at the food counter. We ordered our drinks and when the woman came back we ordered our food. We waited over an hour for 4 dishes (3 of which were food readily available at the food counter) and 5 fried items that were also already cooked and can be seen at the food counter. They became very busy after we placed our orders. They served the people at the food counter line meanwhile we were still not served after an hour! Not even the appetizers. When our food finally arrived, 2 dishes were brought out, then 2 items came out 20 minutes later and one person in our party never even got their food so after waiting 25 minutes for that plate we told them not to bother bringing it out (it didn't look like they had any intention to do so anyway) I understand that they were busy, but I counted 6 workers at the time, there is absolutely no excuse for us waiting over an hour and 20 minutes for food that was already made! The waitress was apologetic with a very arrogant attitude. We were never rude to her. I will never go back and I seriously do NOT recommend this place to anyone. read more

Definitely the best Puerto Rican food in Meriden and surrounding towns. Great selection. The carne frita and bistec are my absolute favorite here. My only complaint would be that there is never parking (really wish they would expand to a bigger place), and they often run out of yellow rice (which is what most people go there to order). It is completely worth it though. The food is excellent and you won't find more authentic food around Meriden. read more
