We have been to Island Cho a couple of times now and it's just the start of our love! The blend of Trinidadian and Jamaican cuisine with other creative dishes will keep us coming back! Oxtail sushi? It's here! This tropical feeling restaurant is bright and colorful. Every bite was excellent and full of flavor. I'm beyond thrilled to have found a spot that makes such amazing roti! I had it with the goat curry and it was perfect and tender. The food also includes things like jerk chicken quesadillas, shrimp wontons, wings, shrimp and plantains, and more. We had never had jerk pork before coming here and we will definitely do so again! The owner, Gillian, is so wonderful. We loved her instantly. The restaurant is a dedicated to their late first daughter. Butterflies are everywhere in honor of her so make sure to keep an eye out.

Amazing Jamaican and Trinidadian food. So much flavor. Restaurant is cute and charming, staff are friendly and attentive. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Stewed chicken was delicious, wings and shrimp were so crispy and delicious. Tucked away in a shopping plaza in North Haven, Island Cho is worth seeking out for a great eating experience hard to find in CT!

We're in love with Island Cho and its ability to bring the best authentic Caribbean cuisine to North Haven! Family/woman owned you can feel the love in all the dishes. Naturally, we wanted to try the things that aren't readily offered anywhere else so we indulged in beef patty, shrimp, wrapped in plantains, curry, dishes, sushi - yes sushi, fried chicken, and all the amazing side dishes that complement the leading star of each plate. They do serve wine and beer, which if you're like me, you always appreciate a good wine pairing with a local dish. The service is highly personal and great! If you're looking for an intimate and tasty experience, stop reading and GO!

    Hair everywhere

Where do start? Well how about the nasty bathroom. Hair all over the toilet seat. Dirty toilet paper on top of the sink. Second. They ran out of ox tail which is fine so i got the jerk quesadilla. 5/10. The rum punch was warm because they ran out of ice. The tables was dirty and some many flies hovering over our plates. I just let the flies eat the rest of the food at that point. The rasta pasta is sweet and has a cinnamon taste.

Went to this place after a movie with my girls today and I was utterly disappointed. I saw a TikTok review and they hyped it up so much. But we got there at about 3pm on a Monday and it was completely empty. We were greeted by a young lady, who was friendly, but spoke very softly. We gave our drink order and food orders. I ordered the jerk chicken and asked if the chicken had sauce (personally don't like sauce bc that's not authentic jerk) she said yes and confirmed but was a mixture of bbq and hot sauce. I asked if it could come without the sauce she said yes. I asked if the chicken had jerk seasoning on it like normal. She said yes, so I ordered it without the sauce. I also wanted told her I was going to place a to-go order. One cousin ordered the curry shrimp and Rasta pasta. One cousin ordered the curry goat roti. My sister ordered 2 things to go. By 4pm all the food hadn't come out only the curry goat/roti. Then the Rasta pasta, then the jerk chicken. The To-go order hadn't come out by 4:30 and my sister had to leave without her food (we brung it to her). But it turns out that's when we learned you could only pay cash or cash app. Once the food got there it was completely disappointing. The jerk chicken was old and dry and had no flavor or jerk rub whatsoever. The peas and rice had all of 11 beans in it and had no flavor and the cabbage was blah. I tried to nibble a piece of chicken but it was too dry. The Rasta pasta was weird. It tasted like sweet Alfredo and had no spice whatsoever. The goat was just ok. The best thing that came out was the roti and the drinks. The food was way overpriced I paid $30.92 for food that was tasteless and dry. Then when the waitress came back after we asked for the bill we were told to pay cash or cash app, we asked if debit/credit cards could be used she said yes but it's an extra 4% charge, and then said just use cash app. She gave us tickets with our totals and walked away. We paid (very reluctantly bc the food was trash) and left. 0/10 do not recommended.

What an amazing little restaurant! The owner, which by the way, is the ONLY cook is very friendly and welcoming. She's the B O M B! The place is clean, food on point, and drinks made to order. When I tell u my husband and I cleaned our plates, we licked our fingers afterwards. The service was amazing and the food won't disappoint! I wish her much success!!

I stumbled upon this restaurant while grabbing pizza in the same plaza and said that I would have to try it. I did takeout and would highly recommend calling ahead as this is more of a sit-down style restaurant. It seemed like I waited for 40 minutes for my food to come out. Overall, I enjoyed the food that I tasted. I ordered oxtails, fried chicken and beef patties. I liked that the meats came with two sides. The oxtails and fried chicken were pretty tasty and I loved the Rasta pasta side. Unfortunately, when I arrived at 6pm on a Friday night they were out of Mac and cheese. The service left a lot to be desired, I was never really greeted although several employees passed me. I'm used to this treatment from Caribbean restaurants but I would say most of their patrons would not be, given the area, so it's something they should keep in mind. I would try again.

Was going to say stop in if you are going by, but honestly worth making a special trip! Caribbean food not my thing typically, but oh, my!!! The jerk chicken was LITERALLY the best I have ever had, including the actual Caribbean islands! The meat was incredibly tender and the jerk sauce sublime. Homemade makes ALL the difference! Dahl was out of this world and potato and chickpea side very good, too. Took leftovers home and my husband heartily agreed on all points, without any prompting. Future date night for sure!

First time trying Island Cho in North Haven! Our family ordered take out - Pork Cho, Shrimp Burger, Baked Mac & cheese and, Shrimp wrapped in plantain. We were greeted by the lovely owner and another staff member at the front desk who took our order. They were both very kind and welcoming! The inside of the place is beautiful - great ambiance. We ordered take out and the food carried really well! The pork Cho was super flavorful. The side of rice was delicious. The baked Mac and cheese was great. Overall the food was very yummy, seasoned well and tasted like it was made with love! Please support our local small business and give this place a try! It's well worth it!

The first question you need to ask yourself.. WHY HAVEN'T YOU BEEN HERE YET?????? This fantastic Caribbean food will really wow you. The made to order food is just delicious. My husband ordered the Ox Tail, and said it is by far the best he has ever tasted. The Jerk Chicken Quesadilla was just spicy enough, with big bold flavors. The spring rolls (ESPECIALLY the dipping sauce) was perfectly prepared and so delightful . I really loved the homemade Strawberry Hibiscus Sorrel (Iced Tea) which was packed with so much flavor. This small, family run business is a really great addition to North Haven and it is great to see such a pleasant, hard working family running it. Their commitment to providing fresh, made to order food with great service is evident. We really enjoyed our dinner, and we can't wait to return, especially for to-go food. Also they are open until midnight, so all of the people who are out there working 2nd or 3rd shift can still enjoy their food! UE/DD takes 30%of the money to deliver, so call them directly and place your order because they DELIVER also!!! A+++++++++++++

I've never had Caribbean food before and I was so excited to see this restaurant pop up a mile from my home. My boyfriend and I walked in and were greeted by a lovely family. Initially, we were planning to dine in, but they were not open to dine in for another week or so. Regardless, they still offered us dine in and reassured us it was okay which was kind. We politely declined and said take out would be fine since we live so close. We ordered the oxtail with a side of rice and peas and mac and cheese. As well as the pork jerk, cabbage, and plantain Cho. The sides were seasoned perfectly and had lots of flavor. I would be content just eating a side of that rice for my whole meal- it was that good. The plantain Cho (shrimp wrapped with plantain) were crispy and not over cooked. The oxtail had good flavor, although it was not my cup of tea due to the fact it was more fatty than I anticipated, but I won't take a star off because that's my own preference and has nothing to do with the cooks. My boyfriend liked his pork jerk, but said it was slightly tough. He loved the sauce that came on it though. Overall, I'm happy with my first Caribbean cuisine experience. I love to see a mom and pop restaurant become successful and hope this one does.

For my first time I enjoyed my time there it was worth the wait, for those going for the first time the wait is long but it's because the food is being made on the spot so it is fresh and warm, I also loved the service that was there l, very friendly and it felt like home as soon as I walked in,
