I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time, always nice to have some new Ethnicity style places added to downtown Shelton. I walked in on a Saturday and went for the Chicken Schwarma. They put a spin on it and included some andouille sausage and their heritage sauce along with the slaw. Overall it was good but I was slightly disappointed. I like the wrap but wasn't crazy about the chicken. It was more of the shredded style and they threw the sausage in the wrap whole, definitely would have blended together if it was cut up. Slightly too much slaw, heritage sauce had a nice kick too it, had great flavor as well. They had some indoor seating, I took mine to go. This place has potential, just would like to see them change some stuff up.

Came here to grab some food for lunch. Upon entering I was greeted by warm smiles and a kind welcome. I ordered the jerk chicken with jollof rice and oxtail also with jollof rice. As I waited for the food I was jamming to some Spinall, definitely got the Nigerian vibes. The food was enough for my husband to have for both our lunch and our dinner ! We both agreed the food was AMAZING and full of flavor. We will be returning.

THIS.PLACE.IS.AMAZING!!! I've been seeing Fufu and soups all over TikTok and Instagram, like every other video I see is about people eating their fufu so I HAD to try it out! I've looked all over the place and found Heritage Spice It's over 17 miles away from me but I drove all the way their just to try it out and I got the Egusi soup (w/ assorted meats) and pounded yam. OMG how have I lived without this??? SOOOO AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! full of flavor, the spice is just perfect, texture, everything about it makes me so happy about the dish. I have never tried it before and can't explain the flavor, but I recommend anyone to try it because it is so good. Food for the soul! 10 stars

Jumped on the Tik Tok train, and tried Afro-Caribbean for the first time! So impressed and the service here was just amazing! The employee taking orders was helpful in guiding us through the menu. We ended up getting the Jollof Rice w/ assorted meat, Egusi Stew w/ fish, and the Amala w/ gbegiri and ewedu. The egusi with fish was especially good and the goat and plaintains with the jollof rice were so tasty! Be aware everything was pretty expensive and some dishes were more worth it than others. For what we paid for the amala w/ gbegiri and ewedu, we got way more with other dishes. Also didn't know that the Amala was so bitter! That's definitely our inexperience so I won't say it's bad, just warning others! Would be interested in trying the oxtail and other options next time!

It all came out to $12 dollars and lasted for two days. The jollof had more of a smoky/peppery flavor than Nigerian jollof I've had in the past. The standout to me was the fried chicken, l loved how the African spices enhanced the flavor. I saw a previous review where someone called this place ghetto and unsafe which isn't fair. Can it be intimidating to walk into because of its appearance and customer service? Maybe, but it's exactly like going to your favorite Jamaican, Spanish, or halal places in the area. The language barriers and cultural differences shouldn't stop you from enjoying new restaurants.

So if you see Tasty Ethnic Foods, Nhyira or Sidibe, all are referring to the same restaurant. For entree I went for jollof rice and waakye. Both of these are very flavorful and slightly spicy rices. By default it comes with chicken fry, mutton curry, boiled egg and fried fish. Portion is huge, and you get to taste everything. And everything is flavorful also. I had a couple of drinks as well. Ginger lamurgreen drink was less like a cola and more like a ginger herbal medicine. It had a strong ginger flavor, which is so strong that it burns in the throat a bit, like herbal medicines do. Housa fura millet drink was also less like a cola. It was more like a congee in a bottle which is slightly sweet. I feel it is more like a meal replacement drink.

I've never had African cuisine, so this was my first time & I was excited to try it. I ordered the meat pie, which was very good & fulfilling even. It's similar to a beef Pattie, however the pattie tasted very similar to coco bread which is what a beef pattie comes with if you choose to have it. I also tried the Egusi Soup (goat meat) with pounded yam. The combination together works very well. There was no overwhelming heat, it was well seasoned & the pounded yam was the perfect portion. Now the pounded yam alone has absolutely no taste, however it's meant to be eaten with the Egusi Soup. I've ordered twice from here & want to make my way to the restaurant to see how it is on the inside, however I have no complaints. I also like that they wrap the Egusi soup in Saran Wrap just in case it gets tilted or the bag goes upside down while being delivered. I always appreciate restaurants that take that extra step to secure the delivery.

I did order my first meal by Uber eats, which was pretty tasty but small portions and I decided to visit for takeaway. Still nothing changed, the portions of it was so small and a little pricey, food was tasty. Everything in NYC has comma in it. Shops was decent, mainly for takeout only, suya was good, egwusi soups was okay, vegetable soups didn't taste that good, lacks seasoning. Fufu was tiny! I will definitely order some dishes again, service was excellent, my waiting period was not long compared to other African restaurants in the neighborhood. Location was great and waiting area looks clean / organized. See ya next time.

Tried the veggie special platter (we were told it was for two people): this was by far the smallest Ethiopian veggie platter I had ever beheld. The veggie and lentil dishes were inoffensive, though the injera was much more tart that I was used to. After finishing our meal, my dining partner and I were still quite hungry, at which point we decamped to a Thai restaurant across the street for tom yum, spring rolls and dumplings. For a platter for two that cost nearly thirty dollars, this should not have been the case. While the restaurant is conveniently located on Main Street with ample parking, I do not intend to return - the food was just about okay and the portions were frightfully small.

From the start, the place is fairly small and the decor is not anything overly special. There is a small bar/counter in the right and a buffet just past that with lots of closely spaced tables and 2 nicer tables that are bench seating. The decor and ambiance is not why you should try this place. The service was also just ok. It was a bit slow with not that many diners but it appeared that there were two people in front end service who also did work in the kitchen and a single chef/cook who just worked in the kitchen. There is a bit of a language barrier/accent in the speech of the servers but they are friendly and helpful. The service was ok, but again not the reason to try this place. The food, yes that is why you should try this place out. The injeera was soft, pillowy and had the right acid notes that I am used to in Ethiopian food. The lentils / veggies were a huge hit for the family, especially the cabbage side and the Misir Wot. The Alcha Kik Wot has never been my favorite and it was ok, but the rest were a big hit. The meats were also popular with the family. The Doro Wat was super flavorful and I'm sure the egg would be a hit for those that like Egg Curries (not our thing). The sauce over that part was thick and very flavorful forward. Our favorite meat dish was the lamb tibs however. Nice and cut small, the flavor was a huge hit for the whole family. As usual with Ethiopian food, the dishes were all served on a single piece of injera with other pieces rolled up around the plate. When we left, there was not a bit of food left on the plate. Another bonus is that it's not too expensive for what you get and is very family / group eating friendly. This is definitely a place to try if you like flavor forward ethnic foods. Parking is easy on the street just outside and it's right next to the inn at Middletown if you're staying in town.
