I have been living in NC for about 8 months now and have wanted good jamaican food. Carribean Hut was recommended. The food was just okay. I ordered the curry goat and cowfoot soup. The curry goat had lots of big bones and the meat could have been cooked a little longer. The cowfoot soup was pretty good and tasty but it did not have any meat. It had dumplings and vegetables. The waitress/bartender could have been a little more welcoming and interacting; especially since there was only two women at the bar eating. The waitress was dry the entire experience. The ambience was nothing special. You can eat at the bar or in the dining are. They had a few jamaican pictures hanging up. I think I am a one and done with this experience read more

1-Star Review - Extremely Disappointed and Concerned I am extremely disappointed with my recent order from Caribbean Hut. I ordered oxtails, and what I received did not look like the oxtail I am accustomed to eating. After examining the pieces of meat and bone in my meal, I became very concerned about exactly what I had been served. I have included photographs of the actual food I received so customers can look at it for themselves and make their own judgment. I cannot independently confirm what type of meat this actually is, but after seeing information circulating about the differences between oxtail and kangaroo tail, the appearance of what I received raised serious questions and concerns for me. I work hard for my money. Oxtails are expensive, and when I spend my hard-earned money at a restaurant and specifically pay for oxtail, I expect to receive exactly what I ordered and paid for. I should not have to get home, examine my meal, and wonder, "What exactly did I just eat?" I also called Caribbean Hut this morning and specifically asked to speak with the manager regarding my concerns. I was told that the manager was not available. I made an effort to contact the restaurant directly and give management an opportunity to address this matter. Customers deserve honesty, quality, and transparency about the food they are purchasing and consuming. When someone pays for a particular type of meat, especially something as expensive as oxtail, they should be confident that they are receiving what they paid for. This entire experience has left me extremely disappointed and uncomfortable. I would like management at Caribbean Hut to explain exactly what meat was served to me and address my concerns. Until I receive a satisfactory explanation, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience. read more

Take a step into Jamaica!! I've eaten here several times!!! I'm always pleased with my selections & the service I receive! The food is always hot & fresh & the drinks are delicious! From the wings, to the shrimp to the curry goat or the king fish or red snapper...it's all so good! The bartenders know a thing or two about a drink! Just ask them to make you something & you will not be disappointed!! They also have a live dj on Friday nights playing some souls, soca, dancehall & reggae so if you're in the area make sure you go "Hol a Vibez" read more

Warm greeting on arrival is always appreciated. I love the decor in the location. They have been a staple in the community for the best of 20 years. They recently located within the same parking lot due to the new Aldi's taking over one side at the Terraces at University Place. The owners did a great revamp in a much larger space with flat screens tvs, graceful seating spaced out nicely and a huge bar. Bright floral arrangements and music to soothe you while enjoying some great Jamaican food. My order was to go and the bag had a stamp of locations and contact info. Smart advertisement The Curry goat roti was excellent. Well seasoned and hot. They do both online and in person. Enjoy read more

Came over to Caribbean Hut from Greensboro, NC for a friends birthday. The plan was to go to this spot. The night we went which was on Friday they had a DJ and he was pretty good. The music was there and the environment we loved! It was very well lit in there which I guess it needs to be because there is food served but I would have loved it if it was a bit dimmer. Also when we got there, their fire alarm was going off for a long time but they eventually got it handled, I'd say it took about 20 minutes or so. Me and my friends we all ordered food and drinks, the food took a little bit to come but as soon as I said, "dang where is the food" it came out, I think it's cooked fresh so that makes sense. The drink was okay but the food was amazing!!!!! Everyone liked their meal and I would definitely go back if I'm ever in Charlotte again, I got the curry goat with a side of rice and cabbage with plantains. Customer service was good too, seamless process and if we needed anything they were right there. Bathrooms were nice and clean as well. read more

I bought the goat curry roti, and I had three large bones no meat and barely any meat, but more curry. It's overly salty, and the roti isn't that good I should've went with the reviews but I decided to give this place a try. But nice restaurant ambience. But that's about it. And overly priced for sure for something with more curry than goat and large bones read more

Overall, I enjoy my food and service. I enjoy the grilled lobster tail, butter shrimp and the red snapper entrees. Majority of the employees are spot on, know the menu and provide great service. There has only been one time that an employee told me certain items did not come with an entrée that I order on a regular basis, which was frustrating as it felt like I had to convince her to bring out what typically comes with my meal (rice, cabbage and plantains). I love that they have great food, music and a nice aesthetic.. read more

I ordered the jerk chicken and pepper steak, and unfortunately both were dry and tough. The plantains were just okay. As someone who is Jamaican, I know what authentic flavor should taste like, and this missed the mark for me. I won't be returning. read more

I didn't get the memo about Carribean Hut relocating and renovating. On December 29 me, my sister, and best friend visited Carribean hut. The restaurant is located in the same parking lot that it was once in before the building was torn down but now they are in tbe strip mall that was behind it. The place really looks nice and sophisticated. They have a full bar area, ample seating, and the decor is amazing. I was totally shocked when I walked in. Originally, we were going to a different restaurant in that area. The service was fast and friendly. I ordered like a shrimp stir fry, my best friend had oxtails and my sister ordered chicken. The food was delicious. Definitely stop by for some good Jamaican food. Thanks Michelle & staff! read more

The customer service is not good. I waited approximately 15 minutes and no one acknowledged my presence. I asked the individuals standing nearby if they were ordering at which time I was informed that they all were doing pickup. I proceeded to walk to the counter and asked what the process is for ordering food? At which time the male employee stated "we're coming". I asked a question and was given a response unrelated to my question, and the dismissiveness lost a customer. read more

We visited this restaurant after the Niners' 1st win of the season. We were promptly seated and taken care of by Fendee for the evening. Our drink orders were the Bob Marley for my wife and a spicy margarita created (on the fly) by the bartender with Scotch Bonnet peppers instead the classic jalapenos. It was excellent! We order the oxtail, curried goat and jerk chicken entrees. Everything was good... No bone left untouched! We will definitely be back when we're on town again! read more

I wanted some Jamaican food and decided to try some place different. I came to this location and ordered the usual Curry Chicken. Instead of cabbage, the lady informed me that they don't have cabbage but they have collard greens. It was a first for me, so I tried it anyway. Surprisingly, it was actually delicious! The service was fast and easy and I was super excited to have got a cream soda, which is delicious! It wasn't busy at all and the vibe was great! Once I received my order, I was shocked to see the collard greens had other veggies, such as peas, broccoli, squash, and cauliflower. It was actually better than cabbage! I will definitely return in the future and recommend this spot to everyone! read more

This review is overdue & a three-in-one. I was here on Friday, 01-13-23, Saturday, 02-11-23, and Saturday, 07-08-23. On Friday, I stopped by on a whim & decided to try the fish soup as it was cold outside. It was very good & filling. On Saturday, I had lunch with a friend & ordered butter shrimp; can't remember which drink I tried. In July, I'd been wanting to try their breakfast for a while. By the time I got there, only porridge was left. I'd just had wonderful Jamaican breakfast in Boston. I'll have to return on a Saturday to try everything else; the porridge was ok but not as good as what I had in Boston. My usual drink is the pineapple ginger. Not sure what the black item was inside my drink that time. read more

Very nice environment. You can tell the owner really loves this place. The waitstaff were attentive and very professional. They had that ability to show up exactly when needed, and not a moment before. The food presentation was wonderful. The food was very tasty. I had the Jerk Chicken. It was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The only issue I had, and the only reason I didn't give 5 stars, was with the chicken itself. Whoever had broken down the chicken had chopped through the bones, leaving shards of bone in every bite. It was a bit difficult having to pull bits of bone out of every bite. I've had plenty of Jerk Chicken in my life, and this was my only experience like this. I'll probably go back, but I doubt I'll order anything that might have bones. The tofu looked good. read more

I normally get the oxtails when I go here but they have gotten a bit pricey so I tried the peppered steak. Soo good and tender! The saw was really good with the rice and peas. I always loved the cabbage and plantains. I got some coco bread and a beef patty and still had enough food for left overs. The protion sizes were great! I always order Togo so my boxes always look messy due to the sauce spilling a little in the bag but other than that the food is great!! read more

The sorrel was fantastic and my friend had a dark and stormy (I think) that had sorrel in it too which was perfect!!! Our waiter made it.

This place is terrible. If you are new to Charlotte or not familiar with the area, please do not venture into this neighborhood. It's not safe. I ordered the shrimp roti and it was absolutely disgusting. The roti was hard and dry and there were about six pieces of shrimp in the dish. I have had roti as I'm from the East Coast but this by far was the worst Caribbean meal I have ever had. The service was also poor. The young girl behind the counter clearly did not want to be there and made that very clear. I expressed to the owner on my way out that the roti was subpar and asked if it was frozen. He told me that they ordered the roti from another location confirming my thoughts that it is not fresh. More than likely, they're ordering it in advance and freezing it. And its freezer burnt. They're thawing it and serving it with the food. A complete disappointment. Do not venture out to this location for Caribbean food. Bad decision!!! read more

First off,I don't want to complain on nobody business but right is right wrong is wrong. We ordered here today oxtails which is $32 for each plate. It was a to go order , however our oxtails were so tough it was definitely not Edible. I called back up to the restaurant a lady answered the phone and tells me that I should bring the oxtail plate back up there now mind you I stay 45 minutes away from this restaurant and that is a big inconvenience for me. Have to come back up there to bring this plate that's not edible of oxtails when they can go back there in the kitchen and taste one and see that they are tough and give me a credit for my next visit. Instead, she kept saying bring it back. Feeling disappointed my money wasn't free to me. I wanted what I paid for but didn't get it. Hope this post helps someone. read more

Looking for some authentic Jamaican food ? The Caribbean Hut is where it's at, they have been around for some time now but this is your reminder to re visit . They have 4 locations with two being here in Charlotte, one in Gastonia & the other in Clemson . Be sure when you go to try out their in house juices I fell in love with the Sorrel flavor which is a Jamaican flower, I'm obsessed with ginger and I could taste a lot of ginger in this drink .They have other juices in house such as sea moss & more . We lucked up and were able to try their famous curry shrimp with coconut milk and great balls of fire that dish alone sparked all my foodie needs for that day. Also tried the steamed snapper which was super flavorful, the oxtail were some of the best I have had in a long time. The jerk chicken hit the spot as well and I felt like a fat rat when I left lol . read more

I love the mom and pop feel of the restaurant. It's small but cozy. I was acknowledged right away, and there was a little wait for the food. That's to be expected these days and it wasn't a long wait at all I ordered the BBQ chicken, white rice, cabbage and plantain...oh and a beef pattern that I devoured in the car because I was hungry!. This place is one of the best Caribbean places in Charlotte to get Jamaican food. They give out great portions enough to enjoy for two days. Their food is always fresh and nice and hot. They offer table service but I normally just get the food to go. I always get their ox tails cabbage and rice and peas and a beef/chicken patty. I think the beef patty is the best. Their food is always flavorful. The service is quick I don't think I have waited more than 20min to get my meal. There is parking available. The prices aren't that expensive especially with the portion amount they give you. The food definitely taste homemade. When ever I want good authentic Caribbean food this is the place to go. I love this place and I normally get the large ox tail dinner. This time I order the steam fish with rice and peas and plantains. They gave me an option of two fishes and I picked the red snapper. The fish was cook to order so I had to wait about 30 min, but it was worth the wait. The food was flavorful. Their was only one portion sizes for this meal. The fish was great. In getting this meal just be mindful of the bones while eating you have to pick through the fish to get the meat and that's understandable. This meal was great and I will get it again. read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. I went yesterday for a veggie plate and the individual making my plate made me feel like such a bother. I was given 3 plantains and had to ask for a side of plantains. I asked for a sauce to put on the rice they offered me a meat based sauce after I informed them I can't eat those items. I was given a sweet sauce that was disgusting honestly the entire plate was disgusting! I normally do not leave reviews or say anything but I ended up throwing my entire plate away and just going to bed last night because I was so upset I recommend island flavors off the plaza. Much friendlier staff and the food is unmatched ! Truly disappointed this place used to be my go to spot before I moved to Illinois 2 years ago and it's gross now don't go read more

I came here to get lunch with a friend since we were passing through Charlotte. I was hesitant because of the mixed reviews on here and I'm regretful that I didn't take heed. The food here is...okay. I'm from Florida and I've had pretty great Jamaican food and this just didn't impress me. The chicken was tender but it wasn't as flavorful as it looked. The rice was actually good but the cabbage wasn't. I had the chance to taste some of my friend's Jerk Shrimp and I wish I would've went with that because it was delicious. We have been trying to support small business during these difficult times. We made the decision to pick up takeout from our favorite Caribbean restaurant in the area. We called in the order. Our order was ready when we arrived for pickup. Although we are a family of four, we wanted to order enough food for leftovers. So we ordered 4 entrees as well as an additional order of plantains. Each entree is large enough to get at least two meals out of. The food was very good per usual. Pro-tip: Order an extra side of plantains if you really like them. The side portion is very plentiful. read more
