Going for a hike in one of the many hills surrounding the Quincy area, and need something to "help you out", but don't want to rely on gas station coffee and its associated highly-processed sweets? Let me recommend to you Carey Candy, where one can get any variety of caffeinated products, including but not limited to, coffee, hot chocolate, and standard chocolate. And get a muffin that doesn't taste like it was made across the Pacific Ocean three years ago. I did exactly that when I went for a hike in the South Fork area prior to attending the High Sierra Music Festival. Muffin lasted me about 135 seconds (I was hungry), but I was able to nurse the hot chocolate for two hours as I went up up up up in the early morning cool. Staff was very friendly, and had wit too. I noted that one of the baristas had Dodgers gear on, and upon reminding her that LA hasn't won a World Series since 1988 she acknowledged my Giants backpack without going crazy on me. The store also has the usual assortment of witty and pseudo-witty merchandise with a variety of swear words associated. If I lived in Quincy or its environs I'd certainly be back. Popped in for an ice tea and came home with dinner for the family. I love living the small town mountain life but sometimes I just want good take out! With few to go dining choices that hold for my 30 minute commute home, getting a night off from cooking is rare. However I spotted tri tip with chimichurri , roasted potatoes and a little bit of asparagus, for 9 bucks each, hook me up! Everyone enjoyed it and we are steak snobs. Carey Candy has the best fudge, it's dangerous! Also, loads of yummy baked goods, excellent coffee, gifts, and the fact that they are open 7 days a week are all good reasons to stop in for a treat. They open early enough to grab a coffee and goodie to hit the road or start work early. We always recommend this establishment to our guests. I have read another review about quiche, and I have had it and found it to be excellent! I really do love everything they make. read more

I stopped here today on my way back from Blairsden. It's a clean friendly place. It has a Good selection of candy at a fair price. There is a variety of things to choose from such as cake, eclairs, quiche, and other things. I purchased a spinach quiche for $8.00 to take home for dinner. This is where my review goes bad. It was disgusting. The potato on the bottom was raw. There was clumps of what I think was cheese that gave it a very bad texture. And, finally the egg tasted so strong that it was like eating under cooked yokes. I tried everything to eat it. Heated up, ketchup, more cheese. The dog wouldn't even eat it. So, into the trash it went! So, eat candy! And enjoy! read more

This business started out long ago when I was in high school in Quincy. Although I don't live there now, I am lucky my mom occasionally sends the caramel sea salt chocolate flats!! Came here recently while I was on a fire assignment for the Minerva incident. This place has amazing coffee that is always delicious and consistent. The staff is incredibly hospitable and friendly. Best sweet find in the Sierras! Delightful selection of candy and chocolate. Pretty packaging with different colored ribbons makes it feel like a very special treat. Bakery, incredibly good!
