Came to get a snow cone and check out the selection of candy which there is plenty to choose from. Owner Lorrie was very nice and welcoming. Offered us some popcorn that they pop there. Great selection from chocolates, taffy, lollipops, and plenty of other good stuff from sweet to sour. Old school candies you don't see at many stores nowadays to candy from this generation. A candy for any age! They have a great selection of syrups for their well-known snowcones that they offer year-round along with a few good flavors of ice cream/milkshakes. The store was clean and really like the new painting outside. A must stop when going north on the 99 through Live Oak. I absolutely love this place. My wife's family has history here and I've always heard good things about this store. The last time I was here, it was two years ago and they were not open and we heard rumors that they might be closing down. I'm so glad that I was able to experience this local treat. We walked out with almost $70 worth of candy which I regret none of. All the treats were amazing! The workers there were helpful and knowledgeable of all of the different sweets and we're happy to have us. I love this place because it's a lot like going into a candy store from the time. It was made rather than going into some store that looks like a computer Just decided to create a place to sell candy. Place definitely looks different and as some have pointed out, maybe new ownership. The inside looks very plain and doesn't resemble a candy store... The store was open; however, the lady working there (owner) was VERY rude. She was painting the benches outside and approached me in a rude tone and said the "store was closed"...according to Yelp, the store said open! All I wanted was a snow cone but I guess I'll take my business elsewhere. The owner needs to change her attitude when approaching customers...maybe next time have your door closed so that ppl don't come in!! I will not come back!!! read more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE. I stopped by on my way back from Chico. The owner was the sweetest. She greeted me and was so friendly. I got a bunch of stuff. But let me tell you. The chocolates behind the counter!!!! Omgggg perfection!!!!! I also tried this stuff called divinity. I am craving it because it was sooo good!!!! Highly recommend. I do think they should carry hot chocolate and whip cream in the winter. I think that would be a good idea to get people in too! Next time I'll grab a shaved ice! read more

I used to live in Live Oak when they opened years ago Now they have new owners I think the third. The store is no longer bright red and cheery. It's white, you can pass it up very easily. They have very little candy , no fudge and it's very disappointing. You walk in and it smells of candles no longer candy. It's very disappointing I wouldn't be coming back .​ read more

I remember being three or four years old and my mom giving me one dollar and me just walking around like what do I do I didn't have a concept of money so the idea that one green thing could get you several handfuls of small candy things it was amazing I was exactly like a kid in a candy store! now I'm 38 years old ... where has the time gone ?! I take comfort in knowing that I can bring friends and family nieces and nephew cousins and loved ones back to this location which is still open and get some delicious nostalgic candy. This store is a true OG in town. It's nice to see a shop that continues to provide a fun experience to generation after generation. The candy is obviously not only worth a penny anymore but I like that they keep their originality. The pieces of candy ranged anywhere from about a dime up to around 1.25 for fully packaged options like the sour punch straws pictured. There is a great range of candy. Whether you're craving Mexican candy or Asian candy, they have it for you. My bag total was about $4.50. Aside from candy, they also offer different chocolate options and shaved ice. It was all well priced. When you walk in, you pick up a little basket and fill it up with candy. Take the basket to the cashier and pay! The reason I give this place 4 instead of 5 stars is because my sour punch straws tasted out of date. I'm not sure how often they change out the candy. I may have just gotten a bad batch since the rest of my candy and chocolate was really good. Parking was not an issue and the space inside was good! read more

This place is so cute!!! It's worth checking out even if you're not planning on buying anything... because you will, HA! They have the penny candy, as advertised, which is awesome because I thought it was just the name... but no! They have little taffy candies for a penny! They have all sorts of candy that you can't find anywhere else, and snow cones and ice cream! They also have all sorts of bizarre stuff behind the counter that you wouldn't believe is in a candy store... like weird statues and salt and pepper shakers, meh whatever. My personal faults with this place: they don't pull their taffy onsite, but the stuff they have is still yummy. Also apparently they have fudge now, but I haven't seen it yet, fudge is awesome. My favorite part of this store is the people who work there. There was some horehound candy behind the counter and I mentioned to my friend, after my purchase, that I should have bought some to try it. The guy behind the counter overheard me and gave me a piece to sample, warning me that it supposedly tasted kind of funky, but he had never tried it. It tastes like hardboiled eggs!!! ICKY!! I'm so glad they let me try it for free because it was so gross! Every time I go I end up spending like 4 dollars (on lots of candy), and wolfing it down within hours of purchase. The people here are why I love this store. My fiance loves shave ice so we stop by whenever we can. I was on the way home (from visiting my grandmother in the hospital) and I stopped for shave ice. I asked them if they had any idea how I might be able to get two home if you were the only petson and you couldnt hold them. They said no problem, they would figure something out. The xl $3 shave ice is in a flower cone, so they got me a box full of packibg peanuts to hold my icy treats. They are so nicely packed, in the box and with the shave ice that they made the more than 10 mile drive home. Another time, after a drive to Chico and back, we stopped at the Penny Candy store exactly at 8pm, when they close at 8pm. They let us order even though they had but everything away and we only had a $3 sale. read more

I recently drove an hour or so from Sacramento to Live Oak, California to check out the Penny Candy Store because I heard it was really cool. Let's be honest here...there was nothing special about this place but there was a little excitement driving up because I didn't know what to expect. When I got to the Penny Candy Store, I was sadly let down. It was just a 'house' or something very similar to a house with candy, figurines, and and other snacks in it. I guess I was expecting something bigger or nicer...but the prices for some of the candy was REALLY cheap. I bought a few bags of 'penny candy' and some gummy candy and the total was only like $6.00. I bought enough candy for like two months (Penny Candy) and was totally surprised that the total wasn't more. I probably never go back to the Penny Candy Store, not because it was bad. In fact, the cashier working the store was very nice. I just don't need to drive that far for candy, but I would recommend you take the trip up the 99 past Yuba City (10 minutes after Yuba City) to see the store for yourself. I also made a YouTube video vlog about my journey. SERVICE: Good service. It's a small store so there isn't tons of people in the store at one given time. PRICES: The penny candy is super cheap but the other candy (Snickers, Twix, M&M's, etc.) might be a little more pricey. The Penny Candy Store wasn't what I expected but I'm glad that I at least have an opportunity to check it out. I recommend the drive up with a few friends on the weekend just to enjoy the drive, waste some gas, get some cheap candy, and enjoy the day together. read more

They have more than just penny candy, but that section is still pretty big at the back of the store. Then there's bulk candy, and wrapped candy that you can choose from. I heard about the Penny Candy Store on the radio one day and as we were coming back from Chico on 99, decided to stop and check it out. The building itself is very small but the have a lot of candy packed into that space. There are small pieces of taffy that can be had for 2 cents all the way up to a giant Sugar Daddy for 11.95. They also serve decorative items and hawaiian shaved ice. Judging from the line outside to the window..you know it was good. Staff here is super friendly and didn't hesitate to make recommendations. Very CLEAN inside too! (I always look for this!) The parking lot is pretty tiny with just a few spaces, everyone seemed to park where they could. If I'm passing through again and get a sugar craving, I would totally stop here. read more

i have been living in this town for 19 years and i always come to penny candy when i was younger. they sell tons of candies for a really good cheap price. except for the ones like snickers, m&ms and etc. you can literally buy a tootsie rolls flavored for a penny! still nice workers. ok i used to get shaved ice (by itself) long time ago and since i visited maui in july 2016 and tried their shaved ice. hawaii's shaved ice is super fine like snowflakes which is better than any other shaved ice places in california. so i wanted to try and see if penny candy's would be good if i add ice cream. their shaved ice is ok. shaved ice is still chunky. i got a small snow sundae ($1.50) which they put ice cream and shaved ice! french vanilla ice cream with blue vanilla and piña colada. i was going to tell them to put ice cream at the bottom of my shaved ice but i asked them what is snow sundae first. so they told me what it is and i was like omg yes i was going to tell them to what i wanted to do bc in hawaii it's just called shaved ice and already included ice cream and etc. i don't know if the the "snow sundae" been on the sign for awhile or barely put it on the sign lol? i wished they had mochi bites and haupia (condensed milk) sauce bc in hawaii they add them in the shaved ice. so i added my own mochi bites when i got home haha. but penny candy's shaved ice is cheaper than hawaii! hawaii want $4 for a small and so on.. definitely do miss maui and their shaved ice tho. i mean this is the closest hawaiian shaved ice i can get. few blocks away from home. read more
