Three times, Career Group, represented by Brady Skinner, presented me with great job opportunities: The first time was when I lost my job at a Silicon Valley mergers and acquisitions firm during the tech bubble burst of 2001-2003. I was laid off in June, 2003 and tried agency after agency for over a year and a half. Each agency lauded my qualifications, but either couldn't find me work or set me up for interviews for jobs that just weren't a good fit. Brady and Career Group, however, found me a wonderful opportunity at a Mutual Funds company in San Francisco that was a great fit. I had three very happy years at that company. Unfortunately, I was let go when the stock market crashed in the Fall of 2008. Once again, Brady to the rescue. He got me a temp position at a bank to tide me over, then set me up in a permanent position at a Human Resources consulting firm. I had three more very happy years at that position. Towards the end of 2010, I started to become dissatisfied with my job at the HR firm. The company had gone through a merger, the pay was stagnant, and I was being transitioned into work I didn't really want to do. During the holiday season, I contacted Brady, asking him to start looking for me when 2011 started. To my surprise, he told me he had an opportunity at a Fund Management company. I interviewed for the position in the week between Christmas and New Years with about 12 people (they're very thorough) and was offered the job the second week of January. The job has great benefits, great people, and on February 1st, I'll have been here for seven very happy years -- all thanks to Brady and Career Group. Like all agencies, what Career Group can offer is dependent on the job market at the time -- you can't squeeze blood from a stone. However, you can count on Career Group to make the best efforts possible on your behalf. I've only dealt with Brady -- who is the best -- but I'm sure that the other agents do their utmost for you as well. If you're looking for a job, do yourself a favor and sign up with Career Group first. More than likely, it's the only agency you'll need! read more

Not sure if it's because of how the economy/job market is that's affecting the way the business service operates, but they were not helpful at all. Job opportunities I've seen them post on LinkedIn and clearly qualified for when I applied to them, never really heard a word from them first initiation with the VP Recruiter. After weekly follow-ups to ask about opportunities and for jobs that I had applied for because it was pretty quiet on their end , they responded back essentially telling me to stop contacting them and that I should find other services that better serve my needs or independently find jobs myself (Which I have been even before seeking out additional "help" from them.). I'd steer clear away from them as they either only help those through referrals or networks of close colleagues, selective on academic pedigree, have very picky clients or their standards are just too high and unreasonable. read more

As a seasoned Executive Assistant with over 23 years of experience supporting senior leadership across high-level organizations, I was genuinely excited about the opportunity to contribute to this team. Unfortunately, my interaction with Melissa Buccino was incredibly disheartening. From the moment I joined the video interview, it was clear that my presence was not welcomed with the same openness or interest as one would expect in a fair hiring process. The conversation was cut abruptly short lasting less than a minute, with no genuine attempt to engage or understand my background, despite my extensive qualifications. It was difficult not to notice how quickly I was dismissed, and I left the conversation feeling that my identity as a woman of color may have played a role in how I was treated. Representation matters but only when it's backed by action, respect, and equitable treatment. This experience made me question the branch's commitment to true inclusion and its approach to recognizing real talent. To future candidates, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds I urge caution. And to the leadership: do better. Melissa Buccino do better! Talent comes in many forms, and every candidate deserves a fair shot and a respectful conversation. Also, if you're expecting follow up or even a rejection letter this "experienced," organization seems to lack common curiosity of that, so just move on to other consulting firms that have a better reputation and who actually care for your success. read more

I had tried to explain to her that I did respond a month ago that I decided to work with another agency. But she tried to chastise me and hung up on my face. I did one event with them. I had a disappointing experience working with Melissa Bucchino. Over the past six months, despite actively seeking employment and expressing interest in several positions, my resume was never submitted, and I did not receive follow-up or engagement regarding opportunities. Unfortunately, I did not feel supported in my job search process. When I politely asked if she could refer me to another recruiter at Career Group in case she was too busy, she responded, "I'm unable to refer you to someone else; feel free to reach out to a different recruiter directly." This response felt dismissive and unhelpful. I have a strong background as a Personal Assistant and Executive Assistant, supported by excellent references, so I am unable to understand the reasoning behind the lack of support in my job search. When I try to apply for jobs through Career Group and a new recruiter reaches out, I'm told that Melissa is actively assisting me....however, she has not been helping at all. I had applied to an EA to CEO position on Indeed and Career Group reached out for an interview. We scheduled a meeting for the next week. They had to reschedule once, but I didn't have a problem with that. I logged into the rescheduled Zoom meeting. I was professionally dressed with my hair and makeup done. The recruiter took one look at me and said, "Are you willing to work temp?" (me: yes) "OK, nice to meet you. I think that's all." She didn't ask me about my skills or resume, not why I'm looking for a job, or even what I was looking for in a job. She didn't even go over the the opportunities in the recruiting pipeline. I'm a plus size woman. Now I don't hear anything on if I submit a resume to a Career Group listing. The only reason they get two stars is because the temp recruiter has called me a couple times asking for permission to submit my resume to temp opportunities. I haven't heard from him in six weeks though. read more

Job Seekers Beware I replied to a confidential job posting on LinkedIn. Had I known it was a CG posting, I would have never applied. I've met withthem before when I lived in Los Angeles and they've either not called me back after telling me how great I am or have tried to talk me into taking positions outside my field of interest or below my minimum rate. Someone below said that CG posts their logo on their Craigslist posts. I have never looked for a job on Craigslist so I can't speak to that. However, I can speak to their latest "confidential" post on LinkedIn. I just went back to look at the logo on the post. The logo reads Vidya Technologies of Bangalore, India. I found my last position through an Indian recruiter. I was converted to full time but unfortunately the project I was on was eliminated by my employer (not the recruiting firm). However, CG is egregiously misrepresenting themselves as Vidya Technologjes. When I looked for Vidya on LinkedIn, the US office is in Newton, MA. This is not an issue for me, my recruiter was in Illinois. The job itself reads like Mark Zuckerberg's EA. I figured it was a resume gathering post but I replied hoping for a long term contract job or a temp to perm job while I finish grad school. Again, had I known it was CG, I would have never replied. This misrepresentation is unacceptable. One last thing, because I'm on the Peninsula, CG scheduled me for a FaceTime call. Not Skype or Google Hangouts which are platform agnostic. I'm an Apple girl. This is not a problem for *me* but even in the Silicon Valley, not everyone is me. Not everyone can afford an Apple device nor does everyone want one. That turned me off. It seems a bit elitist. Needless to say, I won't be calling in on my iPhone, iPad nor MacBook Pro. read more

No quite sure if this a 50/50 thing that you will get lucky and get a job, or if the 5 STAR REVIEWS are from people who work at this company or know people who work for this company. I have had bad luck with recruiters, at least in SF. They post jobs on Craigslist and many job applicants think that it for their company, or sometimes they DO NOT mention the company name. I applied on 9/27/13, and i got a reply that same day from Melissa Bucchino. In her e-mail, she told me to contact her via e-mail and phone, which i did. I was so excited because she sounded like she was really interested in me. So i called her and called her for like 3-4 days in a row and she never returned my call. Finally, after those days, she called me back and basically asked me what job i was looking/interested in. (of course i answered her question) Within 2 mins of being on the phone, not once did Melissa Bucchino even mentioned the Office Receptionist i had applied for. WTF I think recruiters just try to talk as many candidates as they possible can to report back to their boss, but in reality they could careless about 90% of us who are seriously looking for a job. As a former agency recruiter I can certainly understand the difficulties in securing new business, but I can't understand lying in order to secure it. My office received a call from Melanie asking for me and when the person answering the phone asked what the call was regarding, Melanie replied that she was "returning my call." I certainly had not called her, so the lie was a representation of what it would be like to do business with her and her firm. When I called her back to let her know that I was aware of the lie, she had a very blasé reaction and still made an attempt to get our business. What a surprise. Another temp/placement agency that posts whatever job they feel like posting on Craig's List and collecting resumes along the way. When you respond to an ad on Craig's List for a particular job, it SHOULD be a surprise to you to have a temp/placement agency contact you and have NO IDEA WHAT JOB YOU APPLIED FOR. Why? Because they don't care. The job NEVER existed, they just made it up to get you to come in, shoot the shit with them, add you to their database, and you'll never hear from them again. I just got off the phone with Leigh Ann and even when I brought all of this up to her, the only thing she could ask me is: what job did you apply for? specifically? Really? You don't know? You posted the ad and you don't know? Don't waste your time. I have tried working with one too many temp/placement agencies, and it's all the same run around. They have a quota to meet for adding people to their system. It would be a better use of your time to stand on a street corner with a cardboard sign and a tin can. At least the $1.37 you collect will be more than you'll make by going in and talking to these people. read more

The post-college job search is a trying time, so I was relieved after my first meeting at Career Group. They asked me what I looked for in a job and seemed to really care about finding me a good fit- I even left the office that day with two new job leads. The next week, they called me three times with job leads. One of the leads was at a VC and seemed promising, so I interviewed there. After the interview, I called Melanie to from Career Group to debrief. Told her about the interview and she said she would let me know if I got the job by the end of the week. After that, career group stopped calling me. I followed up with them to see if I got the VC job at the end of the week, and they said they were unsure, even though they told me they would know by the end of the week. I then followed up several days later and never heard back. I also left a message with another agent about a job she was connected to on LinkedIn. Never heard back. read more

I want to start this review off by saying back in 2005 CareerGroup was awesome. Heather Gray (who is no longer there) placed me at my job at Merrill Lynch. It was awesome! I was 23 and working for an awesome company. Heather was always a joy to talk to. Onto my more current experience with them. I contacted Heather, only to find out she had moved on. Fine, now my recruiter was Leigh Ann and Brady for temping. I went up to the city and filled out their application again because I had gotten married and they needed me to re-do it. I sat down with Leigh Ann and we talked. She said she would be in touch and then sent me to talk to Brady. We had a good chat and he asked me to send him my resume, which I did. I NEVER heard from either one again even though I would send e-mails to them telling them I was available for work. I found another agency and will NEVER use Career Group again. read more

This is probably the only time I've ever wanted to give any place 0 stars. Did not have a good experience with these people. But I give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they really are super duper busy. They might work out for you if you're working exclusively with your CG recruiter and no one else and actively check in with them all the time. They have not gotten me even one interview. Whereas, other recruiters have me interviewing positions well within the high end of my salary range. Hmm ..perhaps they are not crappy per se but just aren't very helpful generally or proactive about serving the needs of candidate. I initially met with Kimberly Taylor: a fabulous woman who was so happy to see me and help me get underway. She also directed me to meet with Brady Skinner, who works with temp and part time positions. He was very nice as well but was under a lot of stress the day we met so he was a little scattered. While I interviewed with Kimberly she told me that she had a position that might be a perfect fit. She spoke with the employer and called me later the same day to set up an interview with this man. She prepped me and told me some not-so-great things about him: warning me about his temper, inappropriate language, etc. I am a grad student and take a class at 3:45 once a week so I was happy to hear about a position that would be flexible. By no fault of Kimberly (and she did give me fair warning) the interview was like an interrogation. I was asked inappropriate questions about my age, family, where EXACTLY I lived, etc. This man, I'm 100% sure, did not hire me because I have a boyfriend, am too young (27) and go to school. He said that I was too "busy." My previous job (Director of Development) required me being on call for emergencies and I am 100% willing and capable of handling a responsibility like that. This man was a complete douche and I was happy that I was not hired. I'm not sure why Career Group would agree to work with this man but it was not entirely Kimberly's fault. Moving on... Since then I have not heard from Kimberly. She dropped off the face of the planet. Brady (part-time) has been in touch with me a few times. He always forgets my school schedule and calls me for one day jobs that I'm not available for. He forgot about my vacation and called me for a one day temp job while I was gone. (I DID tell him he could call me to set up an interview so I'm not upset about him calling) There is just a lack of attention to detail. I only hear from Brady about once every 2-3 weeks. I hear from another recruiter once or more about ever week so Career group is not up to par with their competition. I did get call for and accept a one day position that I was very happy with, one month ago. The only other time I have received a call from Brady was this week on a day I wasn't available for class. Long story short, Career Group is good but they missed the bus with me. I've since accepted a 5 month part time position through another recruiter. I understand that I'm not an ideal candidate for them (I assume recent college grads looking for a $15/hr receptionist job) because of my ever so slightly limited availability and my previous employment title but I still expected more. I really like them but they need to get it together. I'm sure others will have a better experience than me. read more

They don't really vet or get to know their candidates, so if you have time, want to save yourself thousands of dollars in commission, just go to Craigslist, this is how they get all their candidates anyway. Although i'd really just pick another company; you're likely to have have better quality and better service. Employees: Don't expect to hear back from your recruiter, in this market you will get 1 quick interview and then its radio silence. Also they spam Craigslist with false ads, once you talk to them about the positon you find out that potential positions are not really what the ad discussed and filled with caveats like "salary" and 'temp only." I am sure Career Group can provide good service to the candidate they seek to hire, but I was disappointed by lack of professionalism in dealing with Karen. I applied for a position a former colleague of mine was leaving and had referred to me. I had a phone screen with Karen, who promised to call me back within a week. After a week and a half I sent a follow up email, and after 2 weeks a call. I never heard anything back. I understand this happens a lot with recruiters and am not taking it personally, but I think there is a higher expectation for professional courtesy when the person leaving the job recommends a candidate. Honestly, I don't know if I would want them looking for a job for me, because I feel like they know nothing about me as a job candidate, or what my experience/strengths are. I really, really hate that they (and most other recruiting firms) post fake jobs on Craigslist. Why not be honest and just say "hey, we're a recruiting firm looking to fill this great position?" Why trick people?! Despite falling for this the old bait-and-switch yet again, I decided to give Career Group a try since I am desperate for work after a recent lay off. I had low expectations going in, but I was pleasantly surprised by Leigh Ann. She (and the other women I met) didn't have that judgmental "sorority girl" air that many recruiters have. She seemed intelligent and honest. So far I've been impressed with the level of professionalism and communication amongst the various recruiters I've talked to from Career Group. I like that they work together as a team helping each other (and me!) out. Worth noting that I am mid-career with a lot of good experience on my resume. If you're entry-level, you're probably up against a lot of competition, so don't expect miracles from any recruiting firm. read more

Brady was my recruiter; he listened, was down to earth, and found me work. But, I never got the jobs that I had said that I wanted, and at best, I was told to try something out to see if an opportunity opens up. Also, I was asked to continue a job although I had made it clear that it wasn't what I had wanted going in. If I was in better spirits or more resilient with my energy, I would "try my luck" so to speak. But at this point in my life, I know what I'm looking for, and it was just so tedious to keep doing a job that was just wrong for me. Also, my last assignment, I was told that I was liked and in demand, just to have my assignment be cut short. Not to mention that I worked with an awful girl (Rachel) @ Global Events, who kept stepping on me, bumping into me, rude to guests at this event, disorganised, and demanding. I had sent my agreed upon hours to Brady, which he verified, just to look like I messed up the hours when Brady made a mistake. Also, I worked a 7.5 hour day and wasn't given a break; I asked for 10 min. at the end of the night and Rachel was itchy+b. I was then advised by their accounting department to create a lunch break on my time sheet....not cool. :-( read more

They're SF office is warm and inviting, which has created positive experiences and interactions in the past. Having met with Brady Skinner, Tracye Wills, and Kimberly Taylor, I've found all three of them to be professional, honest, and quite timely in their communications. As for the 1 star remarks, CG just happens to have their logo in their posts. Several other recruiting firms use this tactic as well, though they're not as forthcoming about it. I recently moved back from South Korea and was looking for temporary or permanent employment. I reached out to various employment agencies but wasn't really hearing anything back. One day I applied for an office assistant position on craigslist that was based in Los Angeles. That same day I received a call back from Career Group's Los Angeles office and was referred to their San Francisco office. I was placed on Brady Skinner's client list and I am extremely happy I was. Brady scheduled an interview with me where we discussed my resume and career goals. Right away he started thinking of opportunities that suited my needs. Within 30 minutes he sent me on an interview for a temporary position that could last up to six months. I am currently working this position and I am very happy with my first assignment. The difference between Brady and other recruiters is that he truly means what he says. In our first 15 minutes of meeting he said he would get me a job and he did just that. Of course my experience is probably unique since the right opportunity just happened to come along. Nonetheless, I look forward to working with Career Group in the future! read more

My experience with Career Group was very interesting. I applied for an executive assistant position via Craigslist, and this put me in contact with Leigh Ann Knappenberger. I was called in for a "briefing session", thats what I like to call it. Being that I am all too familiar with the process of recruiters I was prepared for her to review my resume, and let me know if she had any positions available. I made the changes she suggested that evening, and sent back my resume to Tracye with Career Group. Both of them worked very quickly to get me set up on an interview with a business in downtown SF. I told both of them what type of environment I wanted to work in, and they LISTENED! This is rare! Most recruiters will send you on 50 interviews with companies you really aren't interested in just to "land a job", leaving you unhappy in 6 months. I appreciate their honesty in only seeking out potential CAREER type jobs for me, and not wasting my time. All in all they found me the environment i wanted with a great company. So beyond thankful! I answered a Craigslist ad for an HR assistant job. I go in for the interview, and it comes out that they are recruiting me not to work with them, but to find a job through their clients. I was let down at first because I was just one of the masses and not specially picked out to interview there. I felt like there was either some deception going on in the recruitment process, or there was a misunderstanding somewhere down the line. However, they did find me decent-paying temp work immediately, and have been very attentive so far. I'm over my initial disappointment. They test you on Excel, Word, Power Point and typing. All the folks I interacted with were extremely friendly and seemed to care much more than other temp/employment agencies I've been to. They do all the background work for you (including what to wear) and you just show up where they tell you to go. All in all, this is one of the less depressing places to visit when you're unemployed. read more

Career Group helped me get the job I am still working at - making twice what I made before! Brady was professional, kind, and gave me invaluable advice about my resume. I have since referred many friends to Career Group and they have all had great experiences. I started working temp assignments because my schedule was very odd, and Brady worked with me to find jobs that worked around my time at the hospital. As my days freed up, he kept me posted on new opportunities, leading to my current permanent position that I love! Excellent agency, and Brady is tops! A note about the bad reviews: If you have a bad attitude or are basically unemployable, there is nothing Career Group can do to help you. My best advice is to do an honest self-eval about where you are at professionally, then make the changes that are holding you back. It's also valuable to note that this is an employment agency, and they will be as motivated as you are to get you a job. So if you call in every week and show you are ready and able - you'll get work. If you sit at home and expect someone else to show initiative, you'll be disappointed. read more

I answered a Craigslist ad but they were clear from the start that they were a staffing agency and were doing both direct hire (placement interviews) and hiring temps. Everyone was friendly, very helpful, and I started working right away. They kept me busy with good paying work and since you just have to say each week when you are available, it is really easy to schedule days off for appointments or out-of-town guests etc. They deal with a lot of big name companies and all the companies I was sent to all had good things to say about Career Group too. Update-- I ended up back here 6 months after I left when an on-the-job injury changed my career plans for me. I called, they remembered me, and I was working 2 days later. I even returned for 3 weeks to a place I had temped 2! days at 8 months earlier because that company had asked for me in the interim :) Cool. Now I'm back in the South and dealing with an unimpressive temp agency and missing the great staff from Career Group. read more

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE... THEY ARE HORRIBLE RECRUITERS! I had a horrible experience with them. They contacted me after applying for a job through craiglist. They lure you in with one job, and offer a job that is $20,000 lower than your desired salary. They make you feel worth less than nothing to place you in a job that they think is suitable for you, instead of listening to the candidates! They are unprofessional people with low work ethics! Working with Career Group has been a fantastic experience. I was introduced to them in 2012 by a friend and they contacted me right away. Everyone in the office is extremely kind and welcoming. I have worked with Tracye and Brady on the temporary side and Leigh Ann and Karen on the more permanent side. They have all been extremely helpful and responsive. Tracye and Brady have placed me in some great temporary positions, including a contract job that I was able to work for over a year. Once my contract came to an end Career Group was back helping me find a more permanent position. Leigh Ann has been fantastic about getting to know my interests and what I'm looking for in a company, and has set me up on some great interviews. Out of the six different recruiting agencies I worked with this year, I had by far the best experience with Career Group! I worked primarily with Leigh Ann, but I had the opportunity to correspond with Tracye, Karen, Brady, and a couple others as well. Everyone I worked with was highly professional, knowledgeable, warm, and really did their homework on their clients and candidates. They kept in close contact at all times and I always felt well-informed about positions and interviews. Throughout my process I received encouraging and uplifting e-mails from Leigh Ann, and I did not once doubt Career Group's genuine dedication to finding me the right job. Within two weeks from my interview at Career Group, I had three different phone/in-person interviews at great companies in the area. This is a wonderful agency and I was surprised to see some of the reviews on here! From my position it looks like most of the sad reviews are from candidates who are unable to find a job through recruiters who are known for representing the best talent on the market. Too bad. I worked with Karen, Leigh Ann & Brady and know of them through friends they have also placed at successful firms. It seems from a lot of the negative posts on this sight that negative candidates must be projecting their own frustrations with getting a job into this firm. They get paid a lot of money to find the exact candidate that their clients need for a successful match. They aren't going to successfully place a negative nelly! San Francisco is a small place and word on the street has been nothing but great for Leigh Ann, Brady & Karen on my end. These are the best recruiters I have worked with. They really understand who you are and get when they see the right fit for their clients & candidates. It seems that there will only be a certain percentage of candidates who can successfully work with them since from my circle of friends who know them, it is apparent that they only work with the best companies in the Bay. They follow up with my friends & I to make sure we are happy and our HR Managers adore them as much as we do! I consider myself very lucky to have been referred to this team. My personal experience with Leigh Ann and Karen was amazing. I went in on a Tuesday and had a meeting with Karen to discuss my fields of interest and potential positions that may fit my past experience. I briefly met with Brady, who took the time to revamp my resume to be more applicable to administrative positions. Later that same day, Leigh Ann called me with details for a position with an investment firm that she thought would be a great fit. The following day, Wednesday, I had a phone interview with the firm that Leigh Ann had arranged (she also called to prep me for the interview.. potential questions, pep talk, etc.). Thursday I went in for an in-person interview, and by Friday I had accepted an offer for my full-time position! Leigh Ann and Karen have continued to follow up with me to ensure that it is indeed a good fit. I think Yelpers need to keep in mind: many reviewers with negative feedback may want to step back and consider why the recruiters didn't place them. If the recruiters truly believe that you'd be an asset to a company, they will fight for you. If they don't, they probably won't. read more
