This Review is for the Bacon, Bourbon & Beer Event. Thank you Mike T from Yelp, the Care Chest organization, and to all the vendors & volunteers that made this such a GREAT event. Duplicate review to be posted at Care Chest & Bartley Ranch. Quality/Quantity - I have been to most of the breweries that attended. But it was GREAT to discover so many food businesses. I will be sure to visit them after this event. Also, I discovered so many local spirits and bourbons. Look forward to creating a "local" bar at the house. Atmosphere - Fun event that supports a good cause. So many food, bacon, bourbon, and beer booths. I ate and drank too much!! It was also good to see the regular Yelp attendees. William C (& Grant), we are attending all the same events, should we consider carpooling, LOL?! Some of the activities are: Silent auction, Beer Stein holding (I failed miserably! Might have been drunk by 4pm already...). Plenty of tables and chairs throughout and a huge shaded area near the DJ. Service - Amazing, from the Care Chest Team that greeted us during check in to all the vendors that supported this event. I met and spoke with so many of the founders of businesses here. So impressed that founders of good size companies can take the time to come and support! Thank you again! Price - Yelp invitation, don't forget to tip & donate! This is a review for Bacon, Bourbon, and Brews. I am a big supporter of CareChest, who have helped my son and I become more accesible and independent here in Reno. I encourage you to support these folks, as personally, they helped us make one of our bathrooms wheelchair friendly. Since I am not getting any younger, I knew that it would be more difficult to assist my son with is personal hygiene needs. Since I myself have some back issues, lifting him into a tub would soon be crossed off of my list. Now I have a roll in shower with grab bars. My son has a shower chair. And I owe it to CareChest through grants and donations from supporters. Great event with foods from Chihuahuas, Fig Tree Catering. Distilled brews from Frey Ranch, The Depot, and many more! Jeff Martinez from Channel 2 News did a great job at MCing, and the music was terrific! read more

The good news is they are expanding! Thanks so much to everyone who has supported Care Chest over the years. I first found my way up here back in 2014. My mom had passed and there was quite a bit of medical equipment just going to waste. I don't remember how I learned of Care Chest but I headed up there and was able to donate most all of it. That was 2014. In 2017 my Dad passed and once again I made a trip and donated most all of his stuff. Yesterday I found myself with a couple of my own items. I figured that it was a perfect day to drive up there. You no longer have to go inside. You can simply drive up to the back door and drop off whatever you have to donate. The woman there filled me in on how a brand new building is going up behind the existing one. Thanks to everyone who works there, who volunteers there and who supports this amazing organization. read more

Just attended Care Chest's annual fundraiser - Bacon, Bourbon and Brews. Had an amazing time enjoying three of my favorite things while sampling local spirits and delicious nibbles. All of the participating vendors were friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings, taking time to chat with everyone and answer questions. Three words, Bacon, Bourbon and Brews! I was fortunate enough to win a pair of tickets from the Yelp Giveaway and asked one of my room mates to accompany me! It was a wonderful experience that supported such a great cause. The event was held at Wingfield Park and boy was it lively! After receiving our passes on a blue CARE Chest lanyard, we made our way into the venue. Live music was being played by a band that goes by the name of Escalade. Our first thought was to sample some beers and stand in ilne for the food! There was several breweries (Brewers Cabinet, Lead Dog, Imbib, Alaskan, Pigeon Head, The Depot, Sierra Nevada, Great Basin, Breakthru Beverage Nevada, and Under the Rose) and a couple of distilleries (Branded Hearts, Frey Ranch Estates, Verdi Local, Foresaken River, Seven Troughs, 10 Torr Distillery and Brewery, and Bulliet Wiskey). We both weren't huge bourbon fans, but for the experience, we tried Frey Ranch's Maple Old Fashion with Candied Bacon. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of bourbon, but the candied bacon was delicious! We're more beer drinkers, so we definitely had our fair share of beers! Onto my favorite part, the food. The food was catered by Mari Chuy's Mexican Kitchen and my goodness...everything was tasty. They had a whole roasted suckling pig and the meat was almost gone! So we headed there first before standing in the food line. I made sure to grab a piece of crispy skin too. The food line had tacos, pulled pork, pork and beans, stuffed peppers, churros, potato and Cesar salad with bacon in it. Everything and I mean everything was scrumptious! The stuffed peppers were a bit spicy, but that didn't deter me. After eating, we walked down the auction table to see what they had. The event was also having a Burning Man Raffle. We wanted to support CARE Chest and since we didn't pay for our admission tickets, we decided to support them by purchasing an "arm pull" of tickets ($40). Another band called The Beatles Flashback played and they were absolutely entertaining. My dad loves the Beatles so I grew up listening to their songs as well. It was great to see the audience singing and dancing along to those famous hits. Bacon, Bourbon, and Brews was such a lovely experience. The event was well organized with great live music, tasty food, and refreshing drinks. It also felt great to have contributed to CARE Chest. I'd say this event was a complete success and I am glad we were able to be a part of it. read more

Great experience and great to be part of supporting an amazing cause! Live music, great food, awesome beer, amazing liquor and the best people. The event seemed well organized and staffed with volunteers who were friendly and helpful. The breweries (Imbib, Brewers Cabinet, Lead Dog, 10 Torr, The Depot, Alaskan, Alibi, Pigeon Head, Great Basin, Sierra Nevada and Under the Rose) as well as the catering by Mari Chuy's was great! There were also several distilleries but we didn't try any of them (I'm definitely more of a beer drinker). There was great music by Escalade and the Beatles Flashback. There was a silent auction to bid on many different packages and a raffle for two tickets to Burning Man with two burner bikes. Overall it was an amazing experience and great to be part of supporting this amazing community that we share. read more

This event was amazing! My husband and I got there a little early so there were hardly any wait times. We found our way to the Yelp Table where there was a bag on each chair containing a shot glass. The food was delicious...a bit spicy for me, but that was because I chose the Mexican BBQ food. The only "bacon" I saw was in the potato salad. However, the rest of the pork was in the pulled pork dishes. I'm not very fond of bourbon, but the ones I tried here weren't too bad. I did get to try a lot of local brews...even went for seconds on a couple of them. I realize I'm more partial to the lighter or amber beer. The music was ok. The first band, Escalade, was pretty descent. They had a wide variety of songs, and the lead singer would come out to the audience and get some people to sing with him. The other band, Beatles Flashback, was good as well. They sang some of my favorites... "Day Tripper", "Penny Lane" and "Hard Day's Night". The only reason I didn't say that this band was amazing was because of the sound balance. The drums were so much louder than the singers and it never got any better as the set went on. The sound guys were trying but never perfected the balance. I still went up and danced and sang along. read more

You had me at Bacon, Bourbon and Brews plus what better way to spend the evening than an excellent opportunity to have FUN dancing the night away listening to Escalade andddd The Beatles Flashback all while sampling from local breweries, distilleries while supporting CARE Chest. CARE Chest's mission is to provide medical resources to Nevadans in need so it was with GREAT pleasure that on Friday night the community came out knowing that ALL funds raised during the event went directly to support CARE Chest and the thousands of Nevada families they serve by supplying them with medical equipment, prescription assistance, wellness education and more. BOY, O Boy, did the community shine from bidding on the silent auction items to purchasing raffle tickets for the opportunity to win 2 tickets to Burning Man 2019 plus 2 burner bikes - the wonderful volunteers that roamed around with the tickets gave us all the opportunity by selling an arms-length of tickets for $40 - Wahoooo!! Myself and another gal at our table were just an arms-length away from being on the Playa ~ darn it! At least we know the $$ went to a very worthy cause. This year's event featured a plethora of local distilleries and breweries that I DEFINTIELY partook in: Verdi (the Brandy was deLISH), Frey Ranch Estate (I was in Bacon Heaven with their creation), Seven Troughs (looking forward to a tour soon), Lead Dog (Blonde was OMTASTY), The Brewer's Cabinet (Mike is the BESTEST), 10 Torr (Melissa ROCKS), Sierra Nevada (Can you ever go wrong with them?), Under The Rose (BEST Port EVER) and Alaskan Brewing even roamed around to give samples to the folks waiting in line for dinner. Mari Chuy's out did themselves with an OMTASTY catered buffet served to us of a feast of el pastor tacos, pulled pork, a FULLY Roasted Pig that they sliced riblets and different pieces of delectable meaty goodness right off the bone for us, potato salad with bacon, churros with bacon, Cesar salad with bacon in it and if you didn't realize from reading everything before you got to this part...yeppers the theme of Bacon aka Pork stayed true throughout the meal - yummilicious goodness!! Overall this was an OMTASTY local Bacon, Bourbon and Brew evening! Thank you CARE chest, to ALL the local breweries, distilleries and Mari Chuy's!! I had a real hip replacement and was discharged from the hospital without anything to help me regarding life a little easier. I contacted Care Chest and when I walked in and they heard my story, they gave me everything that they felt that I would need. They didn't ask for any money. They said in the future you can donate. I left with my items, in disbelief of the generosity and kindness that they showed me. I have been donating every year because I hear that they are still doing this, and it is so greatly needed. read more

Kim and these great folks at Care Chest have saved my sanity twice! My premature infant is on a feeding tube. The contracted medical supply company we use (Preferred Home Care) is so unreliable, that we have completely run out of feed bags even tho I'd been assured they would arrive. Care Chest has given us enough bags to last until a shipment comes. The staff here understands how stressful it is to have medical supply needs, and they are very compassionate and most helpful. They also answer their phone and take care of clients quickly. I would have had to bring my baby girl to the emergency room if it weren't for this fabulous agency! THANK YOU! read more

Amazing community partner that has been proactively addressing the needs of northern Nevadans for over 25 years.

This place really helped me and my family out immensely during this chaotic and crazy times. My dad had a pretty nasty fall about a month at his home and spent a few weeks in ICU. Last few weeks he went to rehabilitation center to gain his strength back. During that time, I finally convinced him to move in with us so I can help take care of him especially with all this cornavirus panic. I heard from a friend whose mother used these services before. I needed a bed for my dad and any other items to possibly help. Kim from Care Chest helped me so much getting us set up. I was able to get a hospital bed for my dad (which helped immensely as it can adjust) a ramp, a wheel chair, some adult disposable pull ups, and a shower chair. I wanted to give everyone (Kim and the guys that helped load all the gear) there a hug that helped me but unfortunately we are practicing social distancing so I hope this very positive review suffices! After waiting in line for 45 minutes, I was rewarded with a mediocre dinner at best. Lots of different beers, Bourbon's, but never saw any bacon. The first band, sorry can't remember their name had the crowd rockin',loved them! I realize it's for a great cause but won't be coming back, there's too many other causes for less that offer more... read more
