The volunteers and staff are very friendly and caring and take the time to answer questions and never judge. This initiative keeps women and children safe and it's exactly what Reno needs.

From what I could tell and by all appearances this helpful center to Women and Children seemed to…read morebe an incredible place. We dropped off about 30 hand made blankets to them so they could disseminate them out to those who need them the most in our community. As we were inside the building I saw 2-3 women come in and get pampers and an additional infant type related supplies at no charge. I was very happy to see there was a place such as this & in this area of town to help what is inevitably the children of our community. I would recommend volunteering here and/or donating whatever you can from your time, talents and goods. As citizens of this wonderful place we call Reno I can't think of a better way than to give back to an organization that is doing their best to support our local women and children!

The place was clean, quiet, warm, and felt very home-y. If you don't already know, the Ronald McDonald House Charities provide lodging and food (among others) for families whose loved ones are going through medical condition/treatments. Not only do they offer a home (away-from-home) but they have also set up a 'room' in the hospitals, so that families can find comfort and support as they go through some of the toughest times of their lives. The RM House accepts donations in various forms. Our favorite way to support them is by following them on FB, and keep an eye for their "wishlist Wednesday". That's when they post a request for specific items, such as cleaning products, household supplies, snacks, etc. This way they get exactly what they need. Please feel free to check it out. They also organize fundraising events like the RMHC Golf Tournament and the highly anticipated YELP'S Home Away From Home Event to be held in June 2017. My husband and I believe in the good work that the RMHC is doing and providing in our community. I've personally witnessed the tremendous help they gave to a couple of families we know. I'm sure there are countless other families who feel very grateful to have their space and support. Hopefully, the Reno community recognizes the importance of having RMHC around and help them as they continue to keep families together in a warm and wonderful home-away-from-home.

This is a sizable and welcoming thrift store filled with lightly used clothing, jewelry,…read morehousewares, books, kitchenware, toys and more. Many times there are sales. Prices seem reasonable and the volunteers working there are very friendly and keep the aisles organized. There is a lot of parking around the building. The walk-in entrance is to the right side in the back. I like that it is all volunteer run and for the benefit of many charities benefitting the local young and older population of Reno. Also, it is a highly rated organization that gives their profits practically all to their programs. There is also a little craft shop where one can purchase hand made local crafts by the senior citizens of Reno. Profits from this little corner go directly to the craftsperson. Did you know the youth homeless population is the fastest growing in the nation?…read more As a masters candidate at UNR, Lynette Eddy did, and she saw a need to get ahead of it in our community, starting the Eddy House to help, and today this is one of the most successful in the nation! I had the opportunity to work for the first version of this NPO near the beginning, when they owned a home in NW Reno that provided a safe place for 5-8 young men to live and owned a restaurant in downtown Reno as a work experience for them. I knew the organization was vital then, but it just wasn't the right format for them to deliver their maximum impact. Over the years they learned a lot, and under the leadership of some extremely astute folks, they've grown into the vital community organization I always knew them to be. Starting with the YOU, they helped homeless youth find purpose and footing, access to necessary resources and opportunities to learn academically and about themselves with the support of some great local partners. In the last year they realized their dream of opening a 24 hour drop in center for youth, something so incredibly needed by our community, and they continue to advance their mission from there. Now they need our support more than ever. If you can, consider sharing something with them so they can continue to serve the community.

The team at DVRC is the most dedicated, caring, selfless, and hard-working group I have witnessed…read more In 2021, I left an abusive relationship at 6 months pregnant with no idea of how I would survive this situation. I was living at Our Place (Shelter) and they contacted me about the transitional housing program. This day completely changed my life around. I entered the Transitional Housing program with a newborn. They gave me a place to stay, assistance with basic needs (diapers, toiletries, food, furniture, etc.), and provided a furnished apartment. Throughout my stay they gave us food to be able to provide a Christmas dinner to our families, birthday baskets for our children, and countless other forms of support! They provided my daughter and I stability, which I can never thank them enough for!! While in the program I was able to attend classes such as book club, financial literacy, and support group. They even paid for therapy! I met with a financial coach every 2 weeks and she taught me how to keep a budget, pay off debt, save, and get back on my feet. I learned so many skills in the program, and these ladies are incredible! They are there to support you every step of the way. When you're in a DV situation it can feel very lonely, but they are always there for you in moments of need! Never in a million years did I think I would have been in that situation, but thank God they were there when I was! I will forever be grateful to these women for helping give my baby and me a great life. I am now in my own apartment, could afford a car, and am able to stand on my own 2 feet and be a proud mom. Thank you DVRC for all of your hard work to assisting women in DV situations. You have changed so many lives for the better!
