This thrift store is amazing. It is so clean and well taken care of. The workers are so helpful. I was impressed. My favorite part of the store is the section where the seniors in the community get to make things and sell them. They dont charge them anything to have their stuff there. I think this is a huge deal to our community. I would love to see more thrift shops offer this. read more

I have been meaning to visit the Assistance League thrift shop for years! It's near the post office on Vassar so every time I go, I remember...just never at a time when the store is open, dangit. So I was extremely excited to find myself there on a Saturday before they closed! (at 4 pm and they are serious about 4 pm - they made lots of announcements and said purchases had to be made at 3:45 pm. So don't run in at the last minute thinking you can browse quickly and check out at 4) (also they are closed on Sundays and Mondays) This store is suuuuuper well organized, clean, well lit, and well staffed! Super staffed. People were putting things on shelves and organizing all over the place, and there were like 4 people at checkout. It's not a giant place, but it seemed like they have mostly good stuff. Even the books - many of them were books I either own or want to own - no sorting through tons of weird crap that no one wants. There's a "boutique" section up front; a vintage section (priced a couple dollars higher); a nice jewelry selection; a craft section; one for office supplies; and lots of holiday and seasonal decor. Nice shoes! Lots of kids stuff and toys that are clean and in good shape. I won't list all the sections because there are so many, and well labeled! Truly impressive. There's a "Senior Sampler" separate shop within, that sells crafty goods made by - you guessed it, seniors. The crafters set the prices and get the proceeds so it benefits seniors in our community. Prices are mostly reasonable - there were a few things priced oddly high but skirts are $3 and dresses are $4, for example. They are sorted by size and the sorting is accurate! Miracle. Well, not a miracle - the result of lots of hard work, it is obvious. Oh and there are dressing rooms! 3! They have curtains and are up front by the counter and wow. I need to go back when I have lots more time! Recommend big time. read more

Too early for lunch, I step next door to check out this thrift shop. Absolutely one of the cleanest and most organized thrift shops I've been in. Everything is easy to find, it has its own place and well marked. Up front there's even a "boutique" area for high end fashion. Nothing is falling off hangers or laying on the floor. Books and craft items all neatly stacked on shelves. They accept cash and credit cards. They have a small parking lot in front of the building, but the entrance is on the east side of the building half way down. And another lot out back. read more

Heard good things about this shop recently so I decided to visit. It was a weekday, but the parking lot (pretty big) was nearly full. I can tell that it's a popular place. Inside, it's more like a cute gift shop/boutique than a thrift shop. Clean, well-lit, organized and ... happy. The selection is amazing. Beautiful china sets, crystals, lovely dresses! All in great condition. There was a incredible large oil painting that is more than 100 years old, which was snagged right before my eyes. The best part of this shop is how wonderful the staff is. Everybody is kind, pleasant and... HAPPY. It's so uplifting to see so many cheerful, helpful people. When I'm treated poorly by a business, I never go back. On the other hand, when I am treated well, when I feel that the business is treating their staff/employees well, I will make sure to tell friends about them. I highly recommend this shop, but make sure that they are open before you go especially during the holiday season. read more

We came in for the first time. There is a sign that says parking and entrance in the back. We headed back and parked but was confused since the back doors are for donations and employees. Apparently, we past the entrance when driving to the back...it is actually on the side. We entered and was impressed on how many employees work there and how clean the place was. It isn't too big like national wide thrift giants but we found plenty of things to purchase, especially books. Prices of the items we purchased were very reasonable. However, there were some items that I thought were a bit high. When we were done shopping we headed to the front to get in line only to see 3 or 4 people on the registers. We didn't wait at all plus a nice gentleman was helping box up our things. All in all this rating is more like a 4.5 stars. We will definitely come by again next time in Reno. read more

As an avid thrifter, finding a new location always sends me into a frenzy. I about lost it in here. The vintage finds, the customer service!!! Let's talk customer service first. The ladies there are just the absolute sweetest. My young daughter had to use the restroom and they allowed us to use their private restroom so I didn't have to leave and come back. They helped me choose between pieces (and I should have gotten both) and they went out of their way to learn my kids names. I pair $7.99 for the most beautiful vintage piece you'll ever lay eyes on. Their hours.....are borderline offensive since it's only Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm (I want to cry.) so you gotta be quick, and swift, but it's worth using your lunch break over. read more

One of the last "true" thrift stores in town! Although I hesitate highlighting where the honey hole of thrift stores is, I have to give the Assistance League a shout out for keeping it real! This little gem has the best thrift store prices in town, they have quality items, and they stock new items daily! The store is always clean and items are meticulously displayed. I think that's because the staff are lovely volunteers who are always friendly, take pride in the store and work their butts off :) It's one of my favorite spots in Reno and worth the trip! They're 3-4 blocks from Costco heading North on Harvard. Worth the drive. Tip: They are closed on Monday's and Tuesdays are always busy. Be prepared to wait in a little line because they carefully wrap fragile items, but the line moves fast!! These ladies hustle, so remember to be patient :) read more

This is a very nice, clean, well run thrift shop. It has dressing rooms, a boutique section and a senior hand crafts shop in the back. The proceeds from sales are used for Project School Bell and help kids get what they need for school. I come mainly to shop for fabric remnants to make samples of my new designs It's a fairly spacious shop and it never smells musty.i have also shopped at the nice dish and glassware section. I love shopping Thrift to support recycling rather than always buying new. We can help save our planet if we don't spend all our money shopping new. I also donate to these shops rather than just throwing good items in the trash. This Thrift shop is interesting to browse. I am always looking for baskets and other new item because I make up gift baskets for charities. It is fun hobby of mine and I can help the charity groups at the same time. I find brand new cups for my coffee baskets here plus I love collectables. When I ran across their auctions some time back, I bought a whole box of vintage trains for my grandson for a really good price. Why did I get a good price? Because no one else bid on them and that is fair. He loves them and it has now become a hobby for a 10 year old. This thrift store should be happy that they made a child a hobby that will last a lifetime. The day I picked up the trains, all the women working kept telling me what a deal I got and how it should have sold for more money. Don't you think I know that, I don't need to be told and embarrassed? That is what an auction is all about, "deals", not paying full price. I love auctions because of neat finds but I will no longer shop at this one. The next auction after me getting the train pieces for a good price, they now have minimum bids on all the items at auction. These minimum bids have quite high starting bids. I can't imagine they sell anything. And all these items must be donations to the organization. True, the items are the nicer items but the starting bids are not realistic. I been doing this a long time and someone needs to help them price items. No one is going to bid when they can buy these same items online. The three stars is for their thrift shop but I took off two stars for their pricing. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the Assistance League of Reno. My sister died quite unexpectedly. She left a LOT of stuff. Fortunately, all the the things were in great shape. The ladies at the Assistance League were more concerned with my loss than acquiring my sister's things. My sister was a hard-working professional woman all her adult life. I know she would appreciate her things going to help other equally hard-working people. The ladies at the Assistance League provided a source of comfort to me in my time of loss. Have you ever heard of the Assistance League of Reno-Sparks? Do you know what they do? I know I hadn't prior to the Yelp Foundation recognizing them during their Gives Local campaign this December. Through that process, I realized just how important this organization is, and how absolutely under recognized they are for their efforts within the community at large. Assistance League is an amazing organization run by 340 VOLUNTEERS! They provides vital services to children, families, victims of assault, and the seniors in our community through twelve different programs, and according to their website, by May of 2015 their accomplishments included: Providing 2,954 children with new clothing and grooming kits Providing 30 Assault Survivor Kits Providing 412 seniors with food and other supplies Providing 207 teachers awards of up to $300 for use in their classroom Providing Sparks High School was awarded $50,000 to upgrade technology Providing excess goods from the Thrift Shop to 10 nonprofits in the community Providing money from consignment sales to more than 306 senior crafters Providing puppet programs on social issues to over 1800 schoolchildren Providing clothing and other support to children in transitional housing Providing funds to purchase needed supplies at the Veterans Guest House Providing clothing or school fees for high school students In addition to the programs they run, the operate the Assistance League Thrift Shop, which accepts donations 6 days a week, and houses one of Reno's BEST KEPT SECRETS, the Senior Sampler Gift Shop! This is the best little thrift store. The ladies who volunteer here are the cutest! And I feel like this thrift store has its priorities straight. Last year, I got into canning so I'm always looking for jars. This thrift store is the only one I've been to who separates out the canning jars to a little bin specifically for canning. WHAT!!! And they have a whole little corner devoted to fiber arts - knitting, crocheting, cross stitch and other crafts like that. I've bought tons of knitting needles there when I've taught classes or friends. read more

I just LOVE this little gem find (thank you Yelp CM). Every time I decide to stop in here I can't help but walk in and out with a huge smile. Why you ask? This place is run by retired seniors. And, that just gives it that kind of homey feeling to it. this place is VERY organized and everything is super reasonably priced. It also looks like they really shift through the items and only put out what is A+ to sell. I've gotten a few like new Hawaiian dress shirts for my dad for only $4 (I can imagine they were originally like worth 10x that amount), a Dyson vacuum for $30, and a baby seat rocker for $15. All to which were in very good to excellent condition considering how old they were. Also, there's this gift shop, called the Senior Sampler Gift Shop, in the store where they sell homemade items (think of Etsy.com). The workers are super sweet and friendly. They call this place the "Nordstrom of Thrift Stores", and I don't disagree at all. Only bummer thing is that they are closed on Sundays and 4pm on weekdays.
