Service date 8/14/2023. The pickup location was in Irvine California at the time was called because I had a seizure. The EMT did not ask my girlfriend for my address or any personal information. Minimum later received a call from a collections company Cadence an invoice of $1884.67. After asking for a copy of the invoice, it was evident that they put on the pick up location and not my actual address. The invoice also shows the discrepancy of the billing code A0427 ASL1 which states advanced life support emergency transportation. This is from the service in which was provided, which in my opinion was more like an Uber ride with an ECG? The total sum was $2592.67. My insurance paid to bills.. One in the sum of $651.01 the 2nd to the sum of $56.80. I have contacted the collections company with no luck. I have requested supporting documents before I take this to small claims court. Then we log back in and see that the remaining balance is now over $1,500 when it should be at ZERO (just like the stars for this company). We called them up to see what is going on. Turns out that the billing department decided to ADD complete strangers onto our bill. So now they want us to pay for someone else's emergency bill. When we clarified with the representative that we have no clue who those people are, they claim that they cannot remove people from our bill. Sooooo. What? Unfortunately, I cannot give a ZERO rating. This company refuses to negotiate with insurance companies and has ZERO empathy for the people they are supposed to be caring about. My PPO insurance paid a portion of the bill. I filed two grievances, both were denied as I was told Care Ambulance will not negotiate any further. My insurance company was willing to come to some sort of mutual agreement, but Care insisted I pay THE ENTIRE BILL since they are "out of network!" How is an ambulance out of network!? I guess the next time I have a massive heart attack, I will make sure to ask the ambulance if they take my insurance. Somehow they got 3) Insurance paid some but FALCK is demanding I pay $500 more out of pocket. When I called they are just about the biggest dicks they can be. No sympathy to people's finances. You pay or else. You got $800 from the insurance company, take it easy on the people who have no other choice but to use an ambulance in an emergency. I take care of my father and he doesn't drive. There was no other option I get that the ambulance fee isn't just for the distance, but I didn't expect to get raped on the way to the emergency room. Have an emergency? Just die. First Time Calling 911, They took my wife to Pomona Valley, 9 mile Drive. She bounced around in the back of the ambulance. She was in tremendous pain, Did not Treat Her or Give her anything. Pomona Valley Hospital Emergency Room was better than I expected. However the ambulance service was very disappointing. Then I received a bill for $1731 BLS Emergency - LA Code 3 $1523 (Very excessive for what they did- Carry her out to Ambulance and drop her at Hospital) Mileage 9 Miles X $20/Mile = $180 BLS Disp Supplies $28 ( A blanket and vomit Bag) It is my opinion that they are out of control on their pricing. Insurance paid 2/3rd and said I was not required to pay the rest but according to LA County, they can keep after you for the rest. So I paid the 1/3 that Insurance did not cover. I still remember the day I had chest pain (turned out to be heartburn).. but my wallet still hurts after paying the $2,500 bill. I wanted to expand on my review and say that I'm an EMT working for an ambulance company and I know that ambulance companies do not charge that much for a 3-mile drive. The bill included state, local, government, and all kinds of other fees. I called the local fire department that treated me on the scene, however, they said that they don't have any information in regards to billing as ambulance transport is considered to be a private business. I then called an attorney and he said that ambulance companies can charge whatever they want, essentially. So the moral of the story here is to be informed, make sure your insurance company covers ambulance transports, and more importantly, know who is in charge of your local hospital transports as there is a difference between LA city and LA county; some don't charge any as they are city and county funded while the others (Care, FALK and McCormick ambulance) are merely for business. read more

The service was wonderful, but the company is back billing us for $3200 because they picked us up in Orange County, even though they dropped us off in LA County and the call was made from LA County. Terrible customer service. I sent a letter and two emails and never got a response. Whether it is legal or not, a company shouldn't be able to charge $200 in one county and $4000 in the neighboring county. It's unethical. Like we aren't paying enough to live in Orange County as it is. If they are trying to charge you an out of network balance in California, be sure to look up your rights. The ambulance team was professional. However, its corporate policy or billing department is not very honest, forthcoming or diligent. We received a bill from CARE for over 2700 dollars. After speaking with both Aetna representative and a CARE ambulance representative, Aetna made two payments that were substantial. The representative from CARE last April 2020 agreed to waive the remaining amount due to Covid. A year later yesterday, I received another call from CARE requesting the remaining amount for the visit back in Feb 2020. I feel very angry and upset that this company's word does not mean anything. The company already received a large portion of the EOB and more than a year later, they are trying to collect even more. When I spoke with Tammy from CARE today, she did not even have the updated amounts that Aetna sent them. She stated on two occasions that they had only received one of the payments but not both until Aetna provided her with the claim numbers. This is not how a good organization should be doing business. I would never recommend using CARE if I have an option but in an Emergency, it is almost impossible to chose the transport company! This CARE unit is based out of Brea, CA. read more

Billing company is horrific. I was very coherent and able to provide all of the necessary info to the ambulance personnel during my ride. Somehow, they screwed up my address and sent the bill to the wrong address. When I got a call about paying my bill and called, they corrected my address. Rather than send a copy of the bill with some kind if payment instructions, they sent a statement without any info (no website, phone number, etc). I had to Google it to figure out how to pay it and did pay the bill. Now they're still calling to harass me even though the bill has been paid. Having to take a ride in an ambulance for an emergency is already stressful enough. Adding incompetent billing people after the fact is unnecessary. read more

To preface, I am a registered nurse. I know how much healthcare organizations typically pay to purchase common medications and supplies because I can just ask my coworker who does billing where I work, and I am familiar with what level of care is typically needed for different situations. Summary- This was a waste of healthcare money and a violation of patient autonomy. Long version- I would give this service zero stars if I could. The way they treated me was dehumanizing, manipulative, and lacking any kind of bedside manner. They preyed on me while I was vulnerable. I passed out in a restaurant while waiting for my food to be cooked. I felt terrible after I woke up. I had a headache, nausea, and immediately asked for a glass of water, which I started drinking. I recall this entire experience from memory. I was completely alert and oriented to who I am, where I was, what time it was, and what the situation was. In other words, I was completely qualified to make my own healthcare decisions, regardless of whether the people around me agreed with my decisions, as long as I was completely aware of what I was deciding and what the potential consequences would be. This principle is patient autonomy, and should not be waived if the patient has the ability to decide. There is a form that the patient can sign for refusal of treatment releasing ambulance personnel from liability. When I realized someone called 911 on me, I told them i wanted to refuse the ambulance. I could still sit up, drink water, and felt I could wait it out until I felt better. I had already gotten started with the process of drinking water, as I did in the last few times I fainted. This has happened more than once in my life, and I survived all of those episodes without an ambulance or ER. When the paramedics arrived, they refused to accept my refusal, stating that my judgment was impaired because I had just passed out. When I argued back and told them that I am completely oriented and mentally competent, one of the paramedics spoke into his walkie-talkie and said I was non-compliant and combative. I was feeling weak and sitting down in one of the restaurant booths, so combativeness would be physically impossible. It is unethical to assume that someone is combative and non-compliant just because they are exercising their right to refuse care. ANYONE who is completely alert and oriented to self, place, time, and situation, has the right to refuse care, as long as they can engage in a discussion to demonstrate that they will accept the medical consequences of this decision. It is unethical to skew the truth, report that they are combative, and threaten them with police action against them just because they are trying to exercise that right. At this point I felt uncomfortable and didn't want to argue with more people, least of all police officers who just heard I was combative and could easily use that against me. When I got in the ambulance, the paramedics behaved disrespectfully. They kept lightly asking why I was being difficult, and made me feel unreasonable for refusing most of their interventions. I accepted vomit bags and one pill for nausea. Unfortunately, the pill ended up doing nothing and I was nauseous the whole night. Total charges posted for this terrible ambulance experience- $2374. For 2 miles of driving, a vomit bag, a single pill that costs less than a dollar on their end (speaking from professional knowledge), and use of a gurney sheet. Even if you add in the total personnel wages this ambulance company expended in the time their personnel spent on me, there is no way this whole episode should cost anything more than $600. When I went to the ER, I continued to refuse everything and insisted I could drink water, which I asked for repeatedly and they did not give me. I received zero interventions from the ER, except a failed attempt at an IV stick that left me with an epic bruise for over 2 weeks, and an epic bruise on the other arm where an EMT grabbed me way too hard in an attempt to "help" me as I walked myself to my hospital bed. Alas, this account belongs in another review for the hospital. I survived just fine without any interventions they kept offering, and haven't added any medications or changed my lifestyle. My life is exactly the same. I discharged home from the ER against medical advice, drank about a gallon of water, finally ate the burrito that I was waiting for at the restaurant where I passed out, and my nausea slowly faded the next day- I ate normally, was active, and drove myself when i needed to. I didn't take a single day off work since this horrible episode. Instead of insisting that you are right, please listen to your patients. Maybe they do need help (I called my insurance's nurse triage line the next day after my ER visit to discuss a proper work-up), but that doesn't mean they need an ambulance and ER visit. Be very careful using this service. You will likely receive a large bill, and your insurance may not pay all of it. This company will tell you that the rates are set by Los Angeles County, and that is true. What they won't tell you until after you have incurred the bill is that the charges will be over $1,000 and in my case $2248.00 for a one mile ride $477.91 of which I had to pay. And then they took me to a hospital I didn't want to be at, so the next day I had to pay for another ambulance company ride to a good hospital - since I was paying that one myself, it was a flat rate of $700 - for a 10 mile ride. Since this company has a monopoly and no competition, they have no interest in negotiating, having an agreement with your health insurance, or anything else to reduce your cost to less than the county's "no more than" rates. I'm not really sure which HQ Anaheim, Cypress, or Whittier responders operate out of, but I have used this service in various cities. Every time they have been professional and very polite. This review is primarly based on the cost. Not too long ago I was at Whittier Presbyterian Wells Building when I passed out from an ongoing condition. A crash cart was called, due to not being very responsive for some time and Care showed up. My dad, who was there at the time, walked from the Wells building (after talking to the Care driver) to the ER before the ambulance got there. They didn't do anything different than before, except put an IV in, which unfortunately left my arm black and blue for 4 days, and sore. Sometime later I got a bill for $2000. Normally a bill is $400 and insurance covers half, but this time, went less than a mile and was charged 2k. After that I've been quite skeptical with this service and haven't called when I might have needed it. read more

10 minutes ago at 1230p, I saw a Safe Care ambulance driver (in company #55) (no emergency flashing lights on it) forcefully make a turn on Ryder Lane (East Brunswick) from one side of Ryder Lane to cross the opposite driver direction traffic on the opposite direction driving Lane. Myself and the driver in the next lane to me had to hit both of our car brakes hard for this impatient Safe Care driver to cross over both of our lanes while myself and the car next to me had right off way. Better drive yourself! My wife was recently admitted to emergency room and they called Care ambulance to transfer her to another facility. They showed up 20 minutes later. They were using my wife as a lab rat to teach other care providers. Seriously!!!. 15 minutes later they left from the hospital and I drove in my car. The two facilities are only 15 minutes away. You would hope ambulance with a patient would reach early than someone just driving. I reached the hospital 20 minutes before the ambulance. And their excuse was, we couldn't figure out where the elevators were. The best part comes now. I got charged $2000 for this crappy service. I opened up a ticket with hospital that they should be paying the charge. Hospital claims they paid the ambulance. So basically they billed both me and the hospital and got paid twice. read more

The WORST ambulance service. This review is for the EMTs. They were rude and inconsiderate. I had a stroke when they misdiagnosed me for "emotional distress". And since what they diagnosed me with wasn't life threatening, they didn't use the lights and siren. And everyone knows that time is critical when it comes to strokes. I also clearly remember not being able to lift my left arm which was in the way of the safety buckle on the stretcher and the EMT had the audacity to roll her eyes at me and give me attitude... not being able to move one side of your body should be a CLEAR indication of a stroke symptom. Because of the EMTs negligence and lack of knowledge, it left me with physical disabilities. They need to train and hire better EMTs. read more

I can't stand when I have to call them they are rude and not helpful and ask for WAY too much personal information just to verify my son's account (why do you need my birthday to verify my son's account when I verified his name, his DOB, my name, our address and phone number-- now you need my social and my birthday??? After a while (obviously he couldn't find it) I asked him can he really not go over the bill with me simply because of my birthday?! He said no. So after a long silence he decided to talk to me. I just finished messaging with our Monrovia City Council since CARE is the only service that we have in Monrovia, CA if you call 911. This is terrifying. I received a bill for $2,710 for a 12 mile ride. My insurance reimbursed at in-network "reasonable" rates and would not reimburse for any "unreasonable" or duplicate charges. This left me with a bill of $2,172.59 (deemed unreasonable and duplicate). I still have not been able to speak with anyone about the duplicate charges and unreasonable rates. I called and emailed the pfs@falck.com address once a week and never received a response. My last email to them was after they sent a "Collection Warning." I had to pay the bill to avoid collections but still have never received a response from them about my questions. If anyone is involved in any legal action against this company please message me so I can join. Here's the deal on Care Ambulance: I had an extreme flu and was throwing up, severely dehydrated and passing out and my wife called 911. Care Ambulance transports me less than 2 miles and my insurance doesn't cover their ambulance ride (apparently running into walls and passing out isn't covered by insurance). Care bills me for around $1600 bucks. Kinda expensive, but I understand people got to make a living. Care is NOT a non-profit or affiliated with any government service. I'm a pure capitalist, conservative dude. However, $1600 bucks will break your bank account when you need to have a roof over your head and food on the table. Initially, I called and they offered me a 20% discount if I paid right away. Not bad. I didn't have the doe to cuff up so I wrote them extensive emails (look on their website for email addresses). I pretty much harassed them with emails and phone calls till they dropped the final payment to $900 bucks (almost 50% discount). They will grant you a "hardship waiver" if you provide more financial information than a home loan requires or the IRS would request in an audit -so know that option is available is you're in dire straits. I'm still kinda emotional about the whole experience as a write this. I'm kinda conflicted because people got to make a living, but Care Ambulance "legally" is allowed to charge people the full $1600. The problem is Care Ambulance plays hardball, lacks compassion for the people they serve (truly sick people), and will ruin your credit if you don't play their game. As has been said many times on this thread, this is a bad, bad company. They should not be in business. Their billing department is a plague on the community. My mother spent two weeks at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton back in 11/14, and they called a CARE Ambulance to transport her literally across the street to Terraceview Skilled Nursing Facility. I mean, across the street! The bill on that is over $1100. So Medicare looks over the paperwork, but CARE Ambulance doesn't send the "trip report," which apparently gives all the medical information about the patient and the ride. So without that, Medicare rejects the claim. My mother appeals the decision, but time after time, CARE Ambulance doesn't send the trip report. Oh, they claim they sent it, but Medicare has no record of receiving it. So I finally take charge. My mother is 85 and quite distressed about this bill. I call the infamous CARE billing department, and they tell me that unless my mother pays immediately, they will send her to Collections. Wait a minute. Their mistake. And we get sent to Collections?!!! "Well, you can stop it from going into Collections by setting up a payment plan," the lady says. "How much would the payment be?" "Five hundred dollars." At the moment, we are attempting to get a copy of the trip report ourselves, so that we can send it to Medicare directly. After eight days, we're still waiting.... read more

The amount they bill is exorbitantly high in relation to the service and the incompetency of the dispatched EMTs. The EMTs really struggled every step of the way. They had to even loosen the straps on the gurney so that my hands and legs were free to physically ASSIST them to do their job throughout the transport AS I WAS ON the gurney. There were several points I felt like they could have lost control of the gurney. It was nerve wrecking. There is a glaring lack of training or screening at Care Ambulance Services. I was physically capable enough to assist the EMT's, but I can't imagine what they would have done with someone in a more critical condition.
