Why Carbyne Construction Is Different
Most contractors show up, do the work, and leave. Carbyne Construction was built to do something more.
What sets us apart starts with leadership. Carbyne is led by a licensed real estate professional who works in the same DC metro market where we build. That combination is rare and it matters. We understand the relationship between quality construction and real property value. Every project is approached with that lens. We are not just fixing something. We are protecting an asset.
That perspective shapes how we communicate, how we source materials, and how we manage timelines. We know what buyers look for and what inspectors flag. That knowledge is built into how we work.
We also offer something most contractors cannot: a direct connection between the construction process and the real estate process. Whether you are preparing a home for sale or renovating after purchase, you do not have to manage two separate teams pulling in different directions. With Carbyne, both sides of that journey are covered.
At the core of everything we do is honest work, clear communication, and results that hold up. We show up, we follow through, and we stand behind what we build.
History
Established in 2019.
Carbyne Construction was founded in 2019 with a simple purpose: to give real estate clients a contractor they could actually trust. After years in the DC metro real estate market, our founder saw too many homeowners get burned by contractors who overpromised and underdelivered. Carbyne was built to be the answer to that problem. Since then, we've grown into a full-service general contracting firm licensed in DC and Maryland, serving homeowners, investors, and commercial clients across the DMV with the same standard every time: honest work, fair pricing, and results that last.
Meet the Business Owner: Tohmai S.
I'm Tohmai Smith, a DC native, licensed general contractor, and licensed REALTOR® with over 10 years serving the DMV market. I founded Carbyne Construction in 2019 because I kept watching homeowners get let down by contractors who didn't understand the value of what they were building. With a background in both construction and real estate, I bring a perspective most contractors simply don't have. I know what buyers look for, what inspectors flag, and what it takes to protect your investment. Every job we take on, we treat it like our own. We show up, we follow through, and we stand behind our work.
