Shay and his team executed both beautifully, within the estimated time frame, and with exceptional attention to detail. Shay even had suggestions for design, which were spot on and always appreciated. I particularly appreciated how he kept us up to date with any unforeseeable complications and even arrival and departure times. Everyone who worked here was so respectful and considerate. Super important, especially during covid times. Is this company more expensive than others? Maybe a little. But you get what you pay for. Wouldn't have gone any other way.

J&E Modern Construction renovated both our unfinished basement and outdoor breezeway of our almost…read more100-year-old rowhouse in NE WASHINGTON, DC. They did a FANTASTIC job! The job included demolition of existing non-weight-bearing walls, new framing, insulation, sheetrock, ceiling; new flooring, doors, windows, overhead lights/wiring; upgrading the stairway to 1st floor; building "mechanical room" for boiler; plus framing, screening, ceiling, tiling back breezeway; installing breezeway fans;; plastering & painting; and other finish work. We did NOT need the full bathroom done; it was already done. We also purchased & J&E installed stackable washer/ventless dryer. The finished basement includes a guest bedroom with private back entrance and private access to bathroom, a small room to be used as a recording studio, hallway/general access to washer/dryer, and small sitting area at base of the steps. Breezeway now provides a screened in patio. Importantly, J&E discovered some structural decay in the brick support pillars and beams/crossbeams at the back of the house in the breezeway and were able to repair the issue quickly and attractively for a reasonable additional fee. While J&E was not the least expensive bid we received, the quality, timeliness, and thoroughness of their work was first rate! Additionally, the communication channels (via WhatsApp) connected all the team leadership easily and efficiently. The response time was speedy. Yair Delayahu spent considerable time assessing the job; his estimates were incredibly detailed & parsed out financially. Shay Ovadia, and Orlando were terrific in guiding the project, and crew member Oliver and his teammates, plus electrical/plumbing teams, were all tremendously skilled, punctual, courteous, and responsive. Clients are responsible for the selection and purchase of items like doors & handles, flooring, fans, washer/dryer. Client selects paint color. J&E can advise re materials. There's a final walk-through/punch list for any dangling loose ends, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED--5 STARS!

I fired this company. Based on my experience, I cannot ever recommend them…read more One of my biggest concerns involved the flooring. The understanding was that the existing wood flooring would be removed so the new tile assembly would be installed over the subfloor. Instead, the existing wood floor remained in place and cement backer board and tile were installed over it. When I questioned this, I was told it was installed on the subfloor, this is not true. Then they told me that the original hardwood floor was the subfloor, this is also not true. I also experienced multiple issues with the tile installation. A cracked tile was installed even though I had replacement tiles available. When I raised the issue, they blamed me for not physically handing the installer the tiles because they didnt know where they were located. Which is ridiculous considering they were installing the tiles and know exactly where they are located. Later, additional tiles were damaged with a large circular cut that required further replacement. The checkerboard tile pattern was also installed incorrectly during part of the project. The wallpaper installation was another major concern. The wallpaper pattern was not aligned between panels. After I pointed this out, I was told the installers were not experienced with wallpaper installation and normally performed other types of work. The wallpaper was eventually removed, but I was informed that I would need to purchase replacement wallpaper because the original material had been discarded. They dumped their bucket of materials into my garden, caught on my security camera. During the entire process, I repeatably dismissed by rude workers and disappointed by what I viewed as repeated workmanship issues, poor communication, and a lack of accountability when I raised concerns. After I informed the company that I wished to end the project, the work area was left with construction debris and dust that I had to clean myself. They left all of the demo garbage in my garage and in my garden. If you meet either Gal, Tal (Tyler) or Priscilla Winters, I would personally recommend to run away. This review reflects my personal experience with this project.

Honesty. They know what they do well and to whom they can provide the most value. If they aren't a perfect fit, they will tell you instead of take the job anyway for a quick buck. Anyway, for those unsure, HandyMench handles complex/custom jobs end-to-end as a full service shop. This means they provide high end design work but also the due diligence with professional structural engineers. Arranging good tradesman for smaller jobs is tough--call around and try it yourself and you'll find substandard, unprofessional options. The best tradesmen do massive new construction or can afford to avoid frustrating homeowner interactions. Meaning, you'll need someone in the business they already have relationship with. Anyway, I could go on. I've had to learn a ton getting my remodel work done and wish someone filled me in before all that. The struggle is real. Basically, if you're overwhelmed with your project/renovation, just contact them and know you'll be in good hands. Peace of mind is priceless. Or...make the mistakes I did and suffer lol.

There was never a complaint when I asked for something to be done the way I wanted it (example was lining up the tile seams on the wall with the seams on the floor). Just make sure you are there for them and communicate exactly what you want. 2-way communication is key to success with any contractor. One stand out situation that was handled well was a mix-up in the grout color between wall and floor. To their credit, the installers asked me what the colors should be before going ahead with the install. Good thing they did since the documentation had them swapped. If they had not asked it would have been a disaster; but not because of them. Thanks for confirming. Scope of our project was 2 full baths (new: tile, vanity, counter tops, lighting, mirrors, ventilation fans, shower doors), dinning room (new French Doors), 4 bedrooms (with closets and new ceiling fans), wood flooring (replacing carpet), and crown molding throughout. House age is 27 years. Location: Rockville Town Center. The result was a completed project to our liking on time and within expected budget. Quality of the work is very good. Workers don't smoke, show up on time, are pleasant to work with, sealed off our living space from dust, cleaned up every night, and get the job done with the minimum of disruption. I would highly recommend MSC for work of this type. We will plan to use them again on future projects. Thank again.
