Green Chile Burrito
Megan V.

This is our absolute favorite location of Carambas! They have such a great staff and make the best margaritas of all locations. We absolutely love the salsa bar that they offer at Carambas, and usually we just get burritos because they're so filling my husband had the Kearny Asada, which came with guac and pico inside and he said it was absolutely delicious. I had the shredded chicken green chili burrito which was full of flavor and so filling! I highly recommend getting a Primo margarita because it is well worth it and will be the best margarita you have ever had in your life.

The food is fantastic and if you love authentic Mexican food you will love this place! Great food and great atmosphere as well as great service. You won't be disappointed!

The place is very clean and bright, large menu with lots of choices. The food is always fresh, and tasty. The refried beans have a nice little heat to them, the meat on the tacos is always tender and juicy, tortillas are fresh and crisp and the salsa is nicely seasoned. The margaritas are nicely balanced and cheap! In fact, the prices are reasonable and excellent service is very friendly, efficient and top notch. Staff are hard working, good people.

I still love this place even though I haven't lived in Phoenix for 15 years. It's a must visit for me every time I'm back in Phoenix. My new favorite is the machaca cheese crisp. It's pretty much perfection.

Where do I start. Besides being one of my childhood favorite spots growing up, the Mexican food and hospitality here is amazing. My grandparents go here often, and the staff at the restaurant treats them INCREDIBLY well. I feel good knowing they are taken care of even when they go out to eat. The people who work here are very kind and want to help in any way. That aside let's get to the food. I am biased as I only order one thing here. The machaca cheese crisp. I could eat that for every meal for the rest of my life, and I'm not exaggerating. It's crispy, cheesy, meaty goodness is what brings me back to this location time and time again. My wife loves their nachos and is a fan of their tacos. Thank you for changing my life with your food.

I've been wanting to try this place for years but just have never gotten around to it and I'm so mad at myself for it. If you're on keto this is the spot! The lady was very nice and informed me of all the customizations they have for low carb or keto. I will definitely be back and will highly recommend! The food is good for the pricing as well!

I seriously thought they brought me the wrong order when I saw the amount of food...

This is how I know I've done my job well raising my oldest son. I offered to take him to dinner last week and he asked for Mexican food. I nearly cried. But I didn't. Instead, I drove us to the nearest Caramba. The first time I tried Caramba was several years back when he was a youngster. We stumbled on the Glendale location and enjoyed it very much. This was some time before I signed up for Yelp! Then about a month ago, my fiancé and I were out and about when she chose the Deer Valley location for lunch. Instantly, I recalled this great little fast-Mexican style restaurant that serves sit down quality food. Seriously, these guys don't charge enough for what you get. Just look at the amount of food I got with my $11 entree! I couldn't eat it all. Thank goodness my son was with me, cause he never stops eating. We had a chance to sit down outside on the patio, enjoy the great weather, and catch up while discussing the quality (and portions) of our meal. He agreed that the food was very, very good! And he remembed those early visits to the other locations in the Northwest Valley. There are a lot of Mexican food options across Phoenix. And for the most part, the cost of any meal, anywhere won't set you back much. But seriously, the bang for the buck can't be beat at Caramba. Especially when you consider the huge menu, the quality of the ingredients, and how good their take on Mexican food is. I've never had a tamale smothered in enchilada sauce until this last visit. It's good! The next time you are hungry and near a Caramba, you are doing a disservice to yourself and your children if you don't stop in and give it a try. You can thank me later.

Salsa bar is good other than that the food is totally mid. Ambience is tacky. Good service.

To die for. Chips are gratuit. Service is prompt and knowledgeable. The entrance is via the kitchen as this was once a home, now converted into a great eatery. So you come in the side door to the dining room . Wait staff all greet you and guide you to the dining room, festooned with roses and talavera tiles. It's not kitschy, just gorgeous. The menu is ample and you can't go wrong with anything. The initial refrito dip, tho yummy, has pork. But they have the best, the absolute best black beans!! Try them just for a change. You'll be converted. The dining area is small but cozy and beautifully done. So enjoy!!

The restaurant is inside of an old brick home with wood interior and warm colors. The service was good-- friendly and food came out at a good pace, we were checked on regularly. We ordered an appetizer and then entrees from the lunch menu. The aguachile appetizer is SO good. It's bright, fresh, and has a lot of flavor in the green sauce. It reminds me of a ceviche type dish due to its raw butterflied shrimp that is marinated in the house made chile serrano & cilantro citrus sauce. It was awesome. We were also given free chips & house made bean dip. I ordered the mixed two item plate with a chile rellano and taco corazon (grilled taco dipped in a red chile sauce, stuffed with shredded beef & melted cheese. Topped with grilled onions). The black beans and rice is also tasty. I tried a bite of the other dishes, and I also really liked the brightly colored spinach & cheese enchiladas with pink sauce ( signature beet sauce). I look forward to trying other items from the menu, I was eyeing the steak Mexicano or red snapper. Those dishes sound good for dinner.

Out of all the restaurants I had before leaving Arizona, THIS ended up being one of the places I couldn't stop thinking about after I moved away. Ever since leaving, I've randomly craved these tacos constantly. I've tried other taco spots in Denver hoping something would compare, but honestly nothing really hit the same. So when I came back out to Phoenix recently to visit some friends, this was one of the first places I knew I needed to come back to because I had built it up so much in my head over time. And somehow... it was just as good again. The meat tastes incredibly fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned, and you can literally watch them prepare everything right in front of you, which makes the whole experience even better. There's something so satisfying about seeing the tacos being made fresh instead of food just appearing from the kitchen. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. The servers were also super friendly and welcoming both times I came here, which honestly makes such a difference. Everyone had great energy, the service was quick, and the whole place just feels inviting and authentic. I honestly think the fact that I remembered this place so vividly for so long says everything. Usually when you revisit a restaurant after hyping it up in your head for years, it ends up disappointing you. But this place tasted exactly how I remembered it, fresh, flavorful, comforting, and absolutely worth the obsession. Safe to say this place is officially a mandatory stop for me anytime I'm back in Phoenix now.

Also bring a group. The portions are huge and the food is clearly meant to be shared. Trust me on this one, bring friends. I've tried a bunch of dishes here, and there are a few I always go back to. For the table, Camarones Locos is an easy choice. The flame grilled shrimp comes out hot and full of flavor, perfect for passing around. La Patrona ceviche tower is massive and worth the order. When it hits the table, you immediately feel good about the decision. El Pulpazo is technically an entrée, but we always order it as a shareable. The octopus is grilled perfectly and it comes with rice and beans, so everyone gets a little of everything. For entrées, my number one pick is the Lobster and Crab Enchiladas with green sauce. I think about this dish at least once a week. The enchiladas are packed with lobster and crab, and the green sauce ties the whole thing together. Honestly, I could talk about this place all day. If you like Mexican food and seafood, you need to try it. Great food, big portions, and a menu that makes it hard to stop ordering.

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.
