Stopped in for a check engine light on wife's car that they then diagnosed as a bad heater core which was reason for poor heat in vehicle and coolant issue light. They quoted thousands for parts and labor. The Mazda vehicle she drives has a visible heater core from the glove box. No leaks, no signs of coolant anywhere. Simply took it home and filled it with coolant. Heat has been fine, no more engine lights and no signs of coolant loss for the past year. Mechanics WILL try to swindle spouse for thousands in repairs and guess work before attempting the $10 fix first. read more

I took my car to do a alignment in car and they told me there were a part that was to rust and if they put fire it may break and si I told them to order the part just in change it broke and I asked since I'm the beginning what much will be the part and the alignment cost and they tilt es $200 and some change I told the guy that it's ok . they said they will called me and tell me with the part arrive and to bring to car to get it fix which he did and when I drop my car the guy telling me ohh I was about to called and tell you that the guy that do the alignment is not there for the day. and on top of that whe I picked my car they changing $601 when they told me it was 200 and some chanhe. when I went over there by myself with me son and I feel they overcharged because I'm a women and though that I dont know nothing about mechanic . read more

Had a horrible experience here the other day. Took my car in for an appointment to get looked at and it took SO long for them to even take it back and check it out. Once they did, they quoted me a price that I knew was at least 400 over what I should be paying for the service I needed. The girl at the front desk was snobby and rude when I asked a few clarifying questions on price and to get more of a price breakdown. I finally told her I couldn't pay that much and asked for them to take my car down. Ended up driving the car over to Tuffy Auto a few blocks away and got a quote for 400 cheaper and much better service. Would not recommend going here. They definitely seem to have been trying to rip me off because I was a single female in their shop. read more

Over a month ago my car started over heating. I knew it was a coolant leak. They also did an oil change. (Which I want a copy of since they record them) It was supposed to cost around $1100.00 to fix. They call back & my Turbo got too hot, cracked so needed replaced. They DIDNT call me & tell me there was another thing they needed replaced (head gasket or filter, something with the head gasket. I'm not 100% on this repair) but fixed it. They're supposed to get permission before any repair so I didn't have to pay for that. They call back & tell me to get my car. Ten minutes later they call me again & tell me my car is still leaking coolant so they will need to keep it longer. Almost $2800 later I pay & pick up my car. Not even a full 2 days later my car says low oil pressure shut off engine. I knew right away it was an oil leak. At this point I'm not happy, considering my car did NOT have an oil leak when I brought it in. Called them & let them know I do not trust them and will be having another mechanic look at it. Blake's auto shop looks at it, they didn't put a filter on correctly which caused oil to leak. He fixed it & Car X paid the invoice after calling corporate many times. During all this the district manager told me that there was an oil leak as well all along & the mechanic & person calling me to let me know what was going on miscommunicated and he was 'supposed' to tell me the car was leaking oil too. The district manager said the mechanic fixed it out of the kindness of his heart.. So at this point I'm confused because they did my oil change so if there was supposedly an oil leak wouldn't they know when they started doing my oil change? & I've actually had an oil leak not even a year ago and the cost of that.. no way any mechanic is doing that out of the kindness of their heart & if he did.. whys it still leaking? Now I'm happy just to have it fixed because now it's been two weeks that I have had to pay for a rental car that they wouldn't reimburse me for after they didn't fix my car properly. A day later, still leaking oil. Took it back to a mechanic & he tells me there's so much oil leaking they have to clean it up & replace the water pump & then he can tell me where the oil is leaking from. He calls me back & asks me who replaced your turbo? I said car x & he tells me that car x should be fixing this oil leak because to replace the turbo they had to move a pipe & the pipe that they moved is leaking. He said would do it but that they should be held responsible. I called car x & told them & they talked to the mechanic & car x towed my car to car x. They call me this morning & tell me that they never talked to the mechanic. I said you guys talked to him on Saturday & that is why my car got towed to you guys. Jeff says, 'I know you want this to be our fault but it just isn't. We never touched anything that is leaking.' I call the other mechanic, he says no they are lying because you have to move the pipe that is leaking to replace the turbo. I call back car x & said, 'You lied to me. The pipe that is leaking had to be moved to replace the turbo.' Jeff just keeps saying it's not our responsibility to fix it. & that my car didn't go there or leave with an oil leak.. which is odd because the district manager told me they fixed it out of the kindness of their hearts & I said that to him & asked if they had to remove the pipe that is leaking to replace the turbo. He says the pipe isn't leaking so I say yes it is. The mechanic told you guys it is leaking so I'm not sure if someone took the time to actually look & see what's wrong so maybe someone else has the time to do so. He said that it's not their responsibility to fix it and basically that's the end of it. So I say okay well I want to talk to the district manager or an owner & he told me that wasn't an option, they already know about the situation. So now I have to get another mechanic to fix it and state that it is their problem. Jeff told my grandma he didn't want to work with me because of my attitude. Well yeah who would be happy? WORST SERVICE EVER! The review I left on google weirdly only shows up when I'm logged into my g-mail. I wonder how many other bad reviews they have hidden. read more

This place has the cleanest, most comfortable waiting room you will ever find, with complimentary drinks, lots of seating, and TVs. More importantly, the mechanics will bring you into the garage to show you exactly what's wrong with your car. And they're reasonably priced. I had a muffler installed here nearly three years ago, and when it went bad, they told me it was still under warranty, so I only had to pay $75 labor. I have taken my 2 year old Dodge Caravan to the Ankeny location for all of my oil changed and service always friendly and quick getting me in and out! Well last visit arrived for my appointment getting my oil change was told they have no records of my van being serviced with them strange but gave them all my current information. Stay away!! Ordered tires online through Goodyear and made the mistake of picking this location due to its location. New to the area and was looking for a shop I could go to long term with my vehicles. Prepaid and made an appointment online to make it easy for my wife to just drop the (low mileage) vehicle off and pick it up later...Never again! Rude to my wife, then rude to me. Highly argumentative while pushing extra services to the point of a threatening tone having me worried my vehicle would be tampered with unless I agreed to their demands! Front desk guy mansplained me with made up BS into the ground until I caved on an extra $140 service that ended up not being needed. While pickup up the vehicle he admitted it was not needed and that everything checked out ok (which it should on a vehicle that is getting its original tires replaced early because of winter!) but he gladly charged me the $140 for nothing anyway while telling me "they don't like to push extra services that are not needed"?! None of my vehicles will ever be back at this location! Do yourself a favor and pick a shop/company that is not trying to recover the cost of their new building! read more

Total crooks. I was watching into the shop area from the waiting area. I could see the tech put the equipment on my car to align. He then walked away, returning about 20 minutes later only to remove the equipment. He pulled my vehicle out of the shop and up to the door. I told the adviser he didn't align it. Was told he did and the vehicle no longer had a pull. I explained I was watching the entire time. I requested before and after specs, but he only provided before specs and lied and said it was before and after. Total crooks. Never received a response from the home office either. read more

In July my daughter took her Car in to have the brakes looked at. They were making a noise, brake pedal was spongy. They replaced the rotors and pads. She gets it back, it's still making the same sound and brake pedal still soft. She's frustrated so I drive an hour to check it out. I use google to diagnose the problem. Master cylinder? I ask why didn't replace that the first time. Come to find it no one ever test drove it the first time? I was upset. I thought it to be common sense to test drive it before? So they supposedly fix it again. Daughter starts driving it notices her cruise and the brake lights are messed up. Now I'm really upset. I use google to assess the problem again, because I'm no mechanic. I see it might be the brake light switch. So back to them for a third time to make it right. After arguing about it they replace it for free. Woman mgr was rude to my daughter during this. I went to the website to to notify cooperate of my experience. I never received a reply. I even found the email of the president of the company I believe and never got a reply. Two months later Cruise not working. After taking it to a local shop for a service and hvac recharge it showed a brake light switch code.I told her not to fix it there but to take it back to car-x because its only been two months since they replaced the last one. We both never wanted to go back to car-x but thought they should make it right and she is a teacher and doesn't make that much money to spend another $150 to fix someone else's mistake. She left it there and they called and said throwing a brake switch code. Ya duh so did the other shop but now they tell her the switch is good but to diagnose more she needs a new battery because its not charge enough to test further. WHAT? They want another $250 to replace the battery. She didn't have a problem with the battery EVER. I told them they were done with it. She then drove it to Interstate batteries. They said battery was good and didn't need new one! read more

8/20/22- I was at the Carx in South Ankeny, Iowa at approximately 9:50 a.m. or so and asked for a brake flush and check the brake pads since my wife will be traveling for a week or so. They pulled the car in approximately 10:05 a.m.. The cost for the flush was 128.24 and they completed in approximately 20 minutes that included checking the brake pads. The brake checks came back at 10mm (See attached Doc) for all the pads which indicate they are practically new for a vehicle that have not has any brake pads change with 65,000 miles. These same pads was checked last year when I had a coolant flush and they were approximately 4-5 mm. This made me question about the brake flush so I checked the reservoir and there was definitely a separation of fluid. The fluid above the minimal line was clear while below the minimal line was dark yellow (see picture). I took a picture of reservoir and went back to Carx and asked the manager how was it possible that the brake pads was stills 10 mm and a clear separation of fluid of dark color below the minimal line and clear above. He gave some answers that I felt did not support my observation or conclusion since I had brake fluid flush in other vehicles in the past. The color of the fluid of those flush was consistence unlike this flush and the pads at 10 mm at 65,000 miles is somewhat suspicious. I looked forward to the explanation to this post and have reached out to the corporate office. Hopefully, I will get an explanation before I contemplate on filing with the BBB read more

I wish I could give 0 starts! I recently went to this auto shop to have my air-conditioning system inspected. I went here because they offered a free AC inspection with a mailer coupon I received. At the shop they inspected the AC but told me that there was something wrong with the electrical system and that to evaluate that system they would have to hook up a special tool which costed $100 an hour to use. After hooking up the tool and inspecting the electrical system for approximately 10 minutes they determined that the compressor was broken. They then proceeded to give me a quote to repair the broken compressor. They quoted me over $1500 for the repair. When I told them that was more than I was expecting and wanted to get a second opinion they then proceeded to charge me for the electrical diagnostic. Even though it took them 10 to 15 minutes, they charged me the whole hour rate plus a shop supply rate and my total ended up being $145. When I asked them why they weren't able to determine that the main component of the air-conditioning system, the compressor, was broken with the free diagnostic, they said that since it was electrical in nature and the free diagnostic didn't cover evaluation of the compressor. I then took my vehicle to another local auto shop where the mechanic was able to diagnose the problem and fix it for $950. To their credit it was the compressor that was broken but I definitely feel like they lured me in with a "free" diagnostic and then charged way more than anyone else in the area. Stay away from this shop. They are not honest and it really isn't hard to find a better quote for the same job somewhere else! read more
