Definitely not your typical car buying experience!…read more I found a car here online that I was very interested in seeing and set up an appointment with Caroline. The next day I drove two hours from out of state to view and test drivr the car in person. When I arrived, Caroline greeted me and mentioned they were putting new brakes and rotors on the front and that it would be ready very soon to drive. As it was close to lunchtime, the employees were all setting up a group order from a fast food restaurant, and after Caroline learned that I was a huge pizza fan she personally ordered and bought me a large pie from a local spot. Who does that? One of the sweetest genuine people and what a super thoughtful gesture. She said I needed a large to take some home for my family to try. I proceeded to have lunch with the staff in their break room and enjoyed great conversation - mind you I have not purchased the car, let alone test drove it- and they were treating me like an old friend! At one point I joked that I would just come back daily for lunch! After a belly-full I test drove the car and Caroline made sure to let me feel the car on the hwy as well as city streets. I got to meet the owner (Phil) as well, and the hospitality continued throughout. After making the purchase, Phil said he could pick me up from the train station if I wanted to come back up to drive it home. I decided on shipping it, and Caroline went above and beyond to find a shipper and help coordinate- something that was not even their responsibility! She was extremely thorough and organized all the documents I needed including the papers for titling in my state. There was a delay in shipping partially due to the holiday weekend but Caroline continued to help by putting pressure on the shippers and even seeking potential alternatives if needed- amazing A+++ service! Folks- this place overflows with customer service. From the first second that I walked in til the moment I left, everyone I saw greeted me, spoke with me, made sure I was comfortable and contributed to the most stress-free car buying afternoon ever. Sell them your car, buy a car, have them locate a car for you- whatever you do, it is worth the visit! So refreshing to see a no haggle, no pressure, genuine experience in today's age.

He inquired about the same vehicle on three separate occasions, and each time there was a different issue. The first time, he was told the car was available, only to later be informed by someone else that it wasn't even at their location. While we understand cars can sell quickly, the inconsistency was concerning. Then, just yesterday, the same vehicle appeared back on their website. My husband called again and was told a quote would be prepared and sent within 10-15 minutes. Hours passed with no follow-up, and when he called back, he was told the salesperson had already gone home. He eventually received a quote from another salesperson but only as a photo text, which felt unprofessional. The most disappointing part came when he called again to discuss the pricing. While the salesperson stepped away to speak with a manager, she failed to mute the call. My husband clearly heard the manager say, in an arrogant tone, "Well tell him to go somewhere else then!" before the line suddenly went quiet. She then returned and simply stated they were not willing to negotiate. We've never experienced a dealership so willing to turn down a customer. Zero negotiation. At that point, my husband politely thanked her and ended the call. Based on these repeated experiences--poor communication, lack of follow-through, and unprofessional behavior--we would not recommend this dealership. Customers deserve respect and transparency, and unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

Everyone wants to know what is it like to sell your car to CarMax. I can only tell you about my own…read morepersonal experience here. It was fantastic. I submitted a request for a quote on my car, I was pleased with their offer which exceeded most others by several thousands of dollars. It was exactly $2K below the current market value of my car according to CarFax. It was not the highest offer but I trusted CarMax based on my research and their reputation to deliver, and they did. Well financially they delivered. I had to deliver my car to them. However, let me contrast that with CarGuru who offered me more money and was willing to pick my car up BUT I would not get my money on th spot. That would come 2-3 days later and of course there was no guarantee it would match their offer. Well all I can say to that is no, No, NO THANK YOU! I followed my instincts about CarGuru and while walking my dog the evening before delivering my car to CarMax, I met a fellow dog walker who turned out to in the car selling business and told me NOT to deal with CarGuru. He said to stick to CarMax or CarVana only. That is hot off the dog network (as I call it) people. CarMax was easy. I got their offer, made an appointment for the following day, drove my car there and received the exact amount of money they originally offered me. I was in and out of CarMax with my check in hand in an hour and a half, and I was about 15 minutes late. By the way, the only reason I was 15 minutes late was because I made the decision to have my car detailed before brining it in to be sold. It is certainly did not hurt the evaluation process. Everyone I met there was friendly and professional from the front desk check in person to Andrew who handled my sale. I had a completely positive experience here and I highly recommend them. Last but not least, if you do head to this CarMax store, be sure to hit Arethusa Farm in East Haven. CT, approximately 3.5 miles from CarMax. They have the world's best coffee ice cream. And you thought this was a non-food related review! Lmao!

I gave them the benefit of the doubt, went back and got another car and I am now having problems with that which happens to be leaking oil haven't even had the car six months of course it's past the 30 day warranty. Again if you look them up, they have several lawsuits against them for similar complaints. Also not registering vehicle vehicles. Fraudulent loans I have no paperwork on this vehicle. I reached out to the customer relations department. I have also called a local news channel and plan to go after them full force so that this never happens to anyone else. I've also contacted the Better Business Bureau and I'm currently working with the attorney general of Connecticut again please do not do business with them. Maybe people have had good experiences. But there's more bad than good.

The vehicle price itself was reasonable, and it's clear the dealership still earned a profit. However, several aspects of the experience were disappointing and raise concerns about transparency and professionalism. 1. Excessive Conveyance Fee A1 Toyota charges a $999 "conveyance fee." This fee is discretionary, can be set at any amount the dealership chooses, and is often used to recoup internal costs such as registration processing, fuel, and vehicle preparation. The average fee in Connecticut is approximately $500. I acknowledge that I should have reviewed this more carefully before signing, but I was troubled when the Finance Manager dismissed my concern and told me to "let it go." That response was unprofessional and dismissive. 2. Unprofessional and Gender Biased Behavior Throughout the process, I made it clear that I was the primary buyer, decision maker, and payer. My husband was present solely to be listed as a co owner for estate planning purposes. Despite this, the staff consistently directed their attention and communication toward him. This behavior came across as sexist and outdated, and it detracted significantly from the overall experience. 3. Vehicle Condition Concerns Upon taking delivery, I discovered that the vehicle had a strong smoke odor. It was also evident that the cabin air filter had not been replaced. These are basic reconditioning steps that should be standard for any dealership selling a used vehicle. Would I return? No. Would I recommend A1 Toyota? No.
