I have a 2021 vehicle with low mileage, so the only maintenance I typically need is an occasional oil change. I usually have the work performed at either TAKE FIVE or Walmart in Crossville. Most recently I took the vehicle to CarFix. Bad decision. Even though I had an appointment the oil change took an hour and twenty minutes. When I asked about the 0-W20 synthetic oil (and filter) that they used, they acted as though it was a trick question. Finally, they told me that they think it was Kendall brand oil but were unsure about the filter. It'll be TAKE FIVE or Walmart in the future. read more

So our Nissan Quest was swerving like it was hydroplaning on dry ground. Took it to carfix and they said it had a horrible oil leak that made a control arm go bad. However, we have never had an oil leak. Never a drop in our driveway and never runs low. So I just had them replace the control arm and they said it would have to have an alignment which I agreed to. Got it back, $1153.23 later. I checked for the so called oil leak and found none. I even changed the oil myself after getting back. NO OIL LEAK. So they wanted to fix and imaginary oil leak and charge me for it thinking I wouldn't know any better. Will never make this mistake again!! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Well, I used these guys before when they were J&R an independent repair shop. Now that they have been scooped up by the CarFix corporation it seems that profit is more important than good service. I recently had our car in for some routine maintenance, and I was overcharged, significantly, for parts. I did contact the manager and he adjusted the cost, but it was still a ridiculous markup on the parts (yes I understand there is always some mark up, but 300% over retail?) . I normally try to do my own service, but I decided to treat myself; it's been very hot and humid and I had other chores, so I figured why not; costly mistake on my part. My two cents: ask for a written estimate before you leave the shop and double check all of the expenses; if it seems out of line, question the manager. Don't agree to have them do anything extra without letting you know ahead of time. It's too bad that J&R of old is no more; I'll be back to doing my own work and looking for another shop when I can't. read more

I never felt that I would ever give a five star review after how our relationship started. My first experience was a total train wreck with all kinds of quality issues based around A/C service. I left the store totally unsatisfied. Months after that issue passed, I received a phone text from the store asking for some feedback. Boy was I ready to give them some feedback. I called the store and a true professional, Leah, answered the phone. Leah listened to my concerns, shared them with Steve and together they invited me back so that they could remedy my concerns. Leah and Steve were GREAT!. They gave me a loaner car and told me that they would call me when my car was ready to be picked up . Everything that they told me they were going to complete they did with superior service and remedied the A/C issue. I was totally impressed by this value they presented to me. They handed me my keys and told me that I had already paid for the A/C. Wow! Since then, Car Fix is the only repair shop that I would consider. I have completed many more repairs and the quality of their work is very good.I recommend them to anyone who asks me where I get my maintenence and repair work done. i had an appoint ent on Friday I made this on Wednesday. i was there at 7am on Friday as they said. I was told there was people ahead of me. So I made new appointment for Monday 7am I was told there was cars ahead of me. Well they finally got it back and found new problem So they could not get part til late Tuesday and was told they probably could not get it back to me til Wednesday. This is a 3 hour total job. Really. So I went Tuesday morning and picked up the part myself from where they were getting it. And now they will not waranty there work. This business is terrible. I will not return. I have taken my vehicles to J&R Automotive since 2005 when I first moved to Tennessee from Ohio. That is three different cars that I have trusted to them. I have never been dissapointed...they always come through whether repairs or general maintenance. I purchased a new Kia Sportage in March of 2019. As of today we only have 972 miles on odometer. Yep..we are old folks and don't drive much. Yet, still, when we had only 700 miles on it I took it to J&Rs to have two low tires inflated. I decided ahead that I wanted the oil changed also because I'm from the old school & knew J&R would put the oil in that I wanted. I feel comfortable knowing that even if my tires are low, I could stop and have them inflated with no problem. All are very friendly and fun. THEY ARE TRULY THE BEST AND WILL TREAT YOU FAIR!!! Also the waiting area is very comfortable with free coffee and snack machines if you need a carry over. I've been hooked for 15 years! read more

It was a couple weeks before Christmas and we blew a wheel bearing passing through Crossville on our camper, which also happens to be where we live. After telling us we were lucky the whole thing didn't go up in flames, they told us we'd need a new axle and that was going to be hard to get around the holidays. Billy, though, worked tirelessly searching for an axle nearby so that we could get back in our home. He called us 4 days after breaking down and told us it was going to be a Christmas miracle- he'd found the part and they were installing it as we spoke. I bought the package of oil changes shortly after I purchased my new car. On the second oil change 14 months ago I was told that my battery needed to be replaced and I should take care of this prior to cold weather coming in. I was given the price of a new battery and declined since my car was only 16 months old and still under warranty. I made an appointment with the Ford dealer and I was assured that there was nothing wrong with the battery. I recently had an appointment at the Ford dealer for a recall and my battery once again checked out fine, a year later. Today I went in for an oil change and tire rotation. Once the service was completed, I checked to make sure everything was done, but the tire rotation was not, as I have my tires marked. I went back in and explained the situation and I was told that everything is video taped and they needed to review the tape which they did. I was then told it looks like a tire was missed. My father taught me to mark the tires and the oil filter prior to having this type of service done. I have not had any problem with the oil changes, but I wonder what they are trying to "pull" when they cannot rotate ALL the tires and previously tried to sell me a battery I did not need. read more

With Christmas presents and a puppy packed in the car on a two day road trip from Nashville to Boston, my car almost immediately starting making noise and shuddering. We thought we could get it to at least Knoxville thinking there would be a mechanic there that could help. But, like the nativity story, there was no room at any bay for my car. By sheer luck, we pulled off in Crossville to figure out what on earth we would do. And then we found J & R. They immediately set to work on figuring out what was wrong. They kept us appraised of what they were doing and how long it might take (as we also quickly reserved a rental car in case we couldn't get it fixed that night). In the end, we took the rental, and picked up my car on the way back. My car is now purring, and so is my wallet, given the repairs were almost half the price of what the work had been quoted by a place in Nashville. J & R saved Christmas. read more

My nephew drove our BMW to J&R to diagnose a cylinder misfire with fuel cutoff after I already verified the coil packs were good, replaced the seals on the fuel injectors, checked for vacuum leaks with a smoke machine and verified the ECU was working properly. He asked them to not do any work without first getting his approval. They called him back after 2 days and told him they "think" the problem was with a massive vacuum leak and it would cost just under $1k to repair. He told them no and he would just pick up the car. Upon picking up the car, he was told he would have to pay just over $300 for the work done. They said it was $80 to diagnose the problem, $15 for replacement seals on the fuel injectors and over $200 for labor. He argued he did not give them the okay to do any work and disputed the charges but to no avail. After paying, he went to drive the car back home, however, the car would not start so they towed it back for free after some back and forth. When I returned from a trip abroad, he told me what happened. I asked him if he or the garage pressurized the fuel rail since they worked on the injectors; neither had. I jumped in the car, pressurized the fuel and it started but the engine was knocking and running much worse prior to them working on it. So I opened the hood and noticed a few things taken apart and not reconnected including a broken F-connector nipple on the air intake boot. Bottom line, my nephew took our car and paid J&R to make it un-drivable. It was an '01 325i that I used as a beater but ran great before the cylinder misfire and was at least drive-able before J&R monkeyed around with it. Now I'm looking to junk the car... honestly, I'm just junking it. My major issues are... 1) the car was drive-able, however, would not even start to leave their garage. 2) they replaced seals that I had just replaced 2 weeks prior (got them at Advanced) and they did it without my nephew's okay. 3) once I got the car started, it sounded much worse than before it was taken to them. And finally, 4) they broke an important piece on the car and left others disconnected as if, "oh, you're not going to have us repair it, okay, we'll just leave it as is and you put it back together." J&R can dispute all or some of this review; they have the work-order and it was only a couple of weeks ago. Some of this is obviously subjective such as the car running better or worse prior to them working on it. It really depends on who you believe. But most aspects are indisputable such as driving the car in but towing it out, the replacement of good seals and the charges. Look, I/we had a really bad experience with J&R but you may not. So do what you will with this review. This is an honest review if for no other reason than to prevent J&R from operating with impunity. It's likely that if this were my primary vehicle or only source of mobility, I would be more upset and writing with a lot more emotion. Ultimately, let's see what they have to say. Got my transmission replaced not quite 6 months ago. After a couple of months I noticed it wasn't shifting right and took it back in. After their inspection I was told it wasn't the transmission it was something else. Today my transmission goes out it won't shift into third or fourth gear. I take it back in and get told it's past the warranty. I told them about bringing it back in because it wasn't shifting right and obviously it was the transmission considering it went out. Then they tell me well its overheating so we can't drive it long enough to figure out what's wrong. I told them to forget it got back in and drove it about 50 yards for it to try to shift to 3rd and sure enough I can tell the transmission isn't shifting into 3rd and it didn't overheat before I could figure that out. They charged me about $4000 to put a junk transmission in that I have to replace again. Way to stand behind your work. read more
