Randomly came to this restaurant while walking by, the owner, Paul, is a really good man. My father, brother and I felt extremely welcomed, the food was really good, we had oysters, fish & chips, the spaghetti you see in the picture (which I had 5/5), the decorations are amazing, it's all history since they've owned the restaurant for 4 generations. I really like the ordering system they have where you order at the bar (which is very convenient by the entrance) take a number, then they bring the food to your table (which is much better cause you're not seeing waitresses running up and down all the time like the majority of the restaurants). Next time we go back we'll definitely try more of a variety of food. For the dishes we ordered it costed over $90. I think overall if you're willing to spend that much it's worth it! Fun, bright colors drew me into this place located on the Main Street of Fisherman's Wharf. Although it appears to be a sit down restaurant, which it is, you have to order at the counter and your food will be delivered to you. Anytime I'm up in San Fran, I need to get clam chowder and crab at least once. Capurro's was selling Dungeness crab by the half or whole. As a crab lover, the whole may sound enticing, but the half of plenty of food. I went with the half size and ordered a margarita too! After my friend ordered, we found a place my the street to people watch and wait for our food. Large space with lots of options for seating. My half crab came out with a bib and hand wipes. A cute little tourist restaurant in the heart of Fort Mason. I came with a friend during Fleet Week while looking for a place to eat while the planes flew above us, and it was a great spot to check out the planes while seating outside. The service was fair and well expected in any good restaurant -- quick and attentive. As for food, the food was OK, nothing particularly special. My friend and I ordered a pizza (not the best I had, 6.5/10), a catch of the day (well cooked, 7/10) and a garlic bread (can't go wrong with garlic bread). Overall, not bad. Went here with my girlfriend on a whim while working in the city. The interior was a vibe. Lots of gaudy seafood decor, decked out with Christmas ornaments. Not sure why they were set up this way, but you walk in, a host directs you to the bar where you order, then you pick a seat. There were SO MANY wait staff just kinda hanging out at the front that having servers would've been better. When we arrived (at around 4pm) we thought this was the setup since it was pretty dead. The was a LARGE party (rented out a good section of the restaurant behind us) and they still had to order at the bar. Seems inefficient for a large group. The food, the food was great. We ordered two Hennessy and pineapples, and the bartender did not skimp on the Hennessy. We got a large Italian salad to share, along with a clam chowder bread bowl, clam and garlic flatbread, and calamari. The large salad was a big portion. It was tasty, and I'm glad we got it. The calamari was surprisingly small. More little rings (about the size of my pinky) and few full pieces. It also didn't come with tartar sauce. The crab pasta was too oily for my taste but everything else was to DIE FOR. So the six of us came here on a Saturday evening for a Groupon crab meal for $149. The meal consisted of 6 salads, 6 crabs and 6 desserts. The salad very plain - arugula, a few sliced grape tomatoes, shredded Carrots and pickled onions. It was a bit overdressed for me in a vinegarette dressing. The crab was a total disappointment. It was so salty and small. It didn't even taste fresh. I was so thirsty from that crab. The dessert made the entire meal. It was a chocolate layer moose Boston cream cake and I could have finished two slices by myself. The older blonde lady that checked us in also waited on us - she may be one of the owners or the manager. She was a little rushed/abrasive and indicated she was. We never got any hot wipes for our hands after our meal. We never got any menus so was a little sticker shocked when we got our bill. The total bill was $130! I had already paid $149 on Groupon. Capurro's tacked on a 4% mandate, tax on the full price meal and then added on a 20% mandatory tip of $79 to our meal. And all we ordered was a clam Chowder soup upgrade instead of salad For $2.50. I had read all the yelp reviews before I went indicating the crab was excellent so maybe the night we went they went overboard on salting the crab. All six of us thought it was salty. I also ran into two other tables of people I know who thought it was salty. I also studied the menu on yelp (since I didn't get one) and it said a 15-20% tip is customary but not mandatory. Still, the blonde lady was pretty pushy and adamant about my bill. I guess I won't be coming back especially when my $25 crab dinner cost me $50 per person that evening. The tarter is not good it's overloaded with dill it has another ingredient that no one liked. Prices are high 8.95 for a cup of not so good chowder. This place will remain special to me forever. The story of why is not what any Yelp reviewers are looking for as it is personal and a memory of my 11yr old son. That said I will say the food did not disappoint. My son was lured in by the smells of garlic bread wafting in the air but the Angel Hair pasta with Dungeness Crab is what closed the deal to take a moment out of my day to write this. As I mentioned it started by the smell of fresh bread and garlic and after we walked the entire Fisherman's Warf, that smell memory brought us to walk the entire row back to the beginning. When we walked in they were short of staff and trying to hire coming out of COVID and the great resignation. You had to order at the bar and go grab a table vs. full service as intended BUT the owner was there welcoming every single guest and ensuring their experience was what he intended while apologizing for trying to survive through. The bar tender was knowledgeable and kind not to mention patient with my son while he worked through this order and modifications. We grabbed a seat outside to take in the Spring son, live music from two buildings down, and people watch. When our food arrived it was simple but amazing. Freshly made pasta with the right about of spices and oil to promote and make the crab a star. The garlic bread was amazing and thick and the fettuccini dish my son ordered was on point. It's hard to find sanddabs so I was thrilled to see them on the daily specials. For apps we ordered the fried calamari and the dungeness crab arancine. The calamari were small and so tender. Again, fried to perfection but the crab arancini were out of this world! They were 90% crab and 10% rice. When the owner came by to check on us we told him how much we were loving them and he told us they were the Italian version of crab cakes. The private label white wine was great and the service was very attentive without being too much. The Groupon was crab dinner for two and starts with some soft sourdough bread and a really great bowl of clam chowder. Flavorful but not too salty with a great amount of clams. My date and I shared a half bottle of red wine - fairly priced and of good quality. The real star of the show was the crab. The meat sits shell-on in a lovely garlic broth and compliments the sweet crab wonderfully. It's up there with some or the best I've had and tastes unbelievably fresh. It's very simple - bib on, crack and chew. Lovely and worth the price. The dessert was a relatively unremarkable chocolate mousse cake, that was fine enough to finish but nothing to freak out over. Why did I come here? Oh right. Scoma's was full and had a 2 hour wait. I wanted pasta and just simple spaghetti and meatballs, so after sitting at the Pub (which was pretty terrible) at Ghirardelli Square, we wandered down tourist alley and figured on this place because it was empty and looked decent. I like to try 3 star spots because often times, the ratings aren't accurate as a result of writer expectations that might be off base or just general lack of reviews which off set an unfortunate average. At any rate, we walked in and sat at the bar because it was quiet. Bar tender (David? Daniel?) was very calm and it felt like he was at least pretty seasoned in the industry (I was a bartender for years and have additional years in the restaurant industry so I like to see others who have mastered their stations). He was organized and kept his area clean. All things were placed in proper reach and he never let a glass sit empty (or dirty) the entire time we were there. For his service, I give 5 stars, and for the cleanliness of the restaurant, another five stars. The food...well, it's Italian but also it's a tourist joint so tourist-Italian. But how can you not at least try to make better spaghetti and meatballs? This isn't to say the dish was bad. I will say though that the sauce, though light and pleasant, was also a bit too watery. I don't mind light sauces. I actually prefer them. But this was not a balance of textures. The meatballs were very tender and flavorful though so that was good. I wish the dish were better balanced though because it was the potential to be great. Would I come again? Maybe. Maybe not. Would I recommend? If you're in a pinch and nothing else is available, I'd say go for it. This place is known for their crab (as is the story with every other restaurant pretty much), but I figured if I want seafood, I'll go to Scoma's or the Crab House, not here.
