Went on board 5/29 for a fluke run. Possibly the most efficient mates ever. Always on top of everything. Not a great day of keepers but the captain certainly tried. Not much of a galley but I always bring my own food.

A couple of my friends and I went out on a 8AM fishing trip with the Captree Princess. The targeted species were "Jumbo Seabass and Fluke". Unfortunately, my experience was a little disappointing on my end. However, let's get to the positives first. - The mates on board were mainly younger workers. They were attentive to help the new and experienced anglers on board when their lines were tangled, making new rigs, and de-hooking a fish. There is great service from the Mates and crew on board. - The boat is clean and taken care of well. The bathrooms were not messy and there is a nice upper deck where you can sit and relax until the captain reaches to the fishing destination. - The Captain did put us on fish to a point where everyone were bringing in fluke, Seabass and other species of fish. I understand there's a reason why its called fishing, not "catching". As a experienced angler with 15 years of fishing, I was expecting to catch some Slot sized Seabass and maybe a fluke. I only caught one porgy and a mackerel. My friend and I did get on 20-25 short flukes. The captain did put us to some nice spots where everyone were reeling in average size fluke, Seabass, Sea robins, porgies and chub mackerel. A few people on board did get to catch some keeper Seabass and fluke. I wish there was more fishing time. The boat sailed for a good hour and 30 minutes before we got to our first spot. One thing I did not like is one individual was smoking weed on the boat. I understand it is legalized in the state of New York for recreational and personal use, but there is a time and place for it. I don't think it was appropriate considering there were kids on board. I have to give it another try with the Captree Princess. All in all, it was a enjoyable time on the boat with friends and being out on the water.

    About 20% got sick

We went to the evening sea bass trip. About 20% of the boat got sea sick. Scenes of vomiting was common throughout the night. The crew members were quite insensitive to people telling them to use the open ocean. Their primary concern was not to vomit in their bathroom. Some were so nauseous they can't control themselves. My friend vomited twice but was yelled at twice by the crew. If you are hard core then great. For the causal angler beware how rough the seas can be. Would not recommend wife and kids for sure.

Crew went above and beyond!! Big thank you to Allie for helping my 9 year old daughter, when she got sea sick. She gave her cold paper towels and showed her a magic trick with them to make her feel better. She even got her a ginger ale when the vending machine was out of it. She kept checking on us and making sure we were okay. Also big thank you to Jimmy and the captain for giving us tips on how to feel better and for checking on us! A The captain put a second anchor down to keep the boat a little more steady. It definitely helped and make a big difference! We will definitely go fishing with them again! They were amazing! Thank you again !

Just had an absolutely outstanding day on the Princess. My husband and I are brooklynites who make the trip to captree at least once a year. This was our first time on the princess and we'll never go on another boat again. The crew were unbelievably friendly, helpful, at our service and busting their asses the entire trip. My mother and father as well as my husband and myself all caught at least 5-7 fish with 1-2 keepers each. The rods are the best and newest I've ever seen on any of the boats. The captain was dope AF and chatted my whole family up the entire boat ride back talking about his fleet, fishing life, the new construction on the boat and just life in general. They even made a happy birthday announcement to my mother at the end of the ride. Couple of things - yes their trip is more expensive, but they do t up charge for rods or bait and go further out into the ocean than any of the other boats and the trip is longer, 8am-1:45pm Yes the boat is crowded, but that's because it's a good boat where people catch fish. Fish catching depends on the season, time of year, previous day's weather etc. It's not a thing the captain can control. That being said, I'd wager everyone on the boat caught at least one on our day and they took the boat to sites where no other boats were. Sea bass, mackerel, flukes and even sharks! It's a fishing boat and as such, will smell like a fishing boat. Don't complain about this. It's the cleanest of all the boats I've been on. Finally - go on this boat. Way better than our other trips on Jib or Laura lee!

Very pleased! Our group booked the afternoon session and we caught fluke, sea robin, and a sea bass. Crew was very attentive, funny, and knowledgeable. All fish is filleted upon request. Just a word of caution, if you'd like meat from your personal catch, bring a cooler. It seems all the fish caught by the customers were placed in a community barrel. Side perk - great music played throughout the trip. 90s alternative 4 life.

We purchased our tickets through the website: https://www.islandprincesscaptree.com. The IP is located inside New York's Captree State Park. We put "Island Princess Captree" into Google Maps and it led us straight there. Parking was $8.00 and the parking lot is a good size. The tickets indicated to please arrive at the dock by 6:00pm the latest for check-in and boarding. It was easy to locate the IP and we checked in with a staff member at the bottom of the stairs. The boat left the dock exactly at 6:30pm. About 8:00pm, we anchored and watched the sunset. Till the Grucci Fireworks Show started about 9:30pm, we were able to see fireworks in the distance in all the different towns. The boat tuned into WALK 97.5 FM which simulcasted music during the fireworks presentation. There were music by BTS, Rosé, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." The Grucci Fireworks Show lasted till about 10:00pm and then the boat headed back to Captree State Park. So many people fell asleep on the way back. Free coffee and other snacks were available for purchase on the boat. My family and I enjoyed the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show on the IP. We felt that the other fireworks shows went longer than the Grucci Fireworks Show, but it was still magnificent. It was an event that I've never participated in for the 4th of July, so it was definitely very nice and weather couldn't have been even more perfect. I had a light sweater on when it got a little chilly.

I had a very disappointing experience with Laura Lee Charter on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The…read morebiggest issue was that we were misled about where we would be fishing. Instead of fishing in the advertised area, we spent nearly two hours traveling out into the open ocean. The conditions were extremely rough, and the boat rocked so much that many passengers became seasick. At certain points, the rocking was so severe that people couldn't safely walk around the boat, and several passengers were unable to fish at all because of the conditions. After the long ride, the first fishing spot was a complete waste of time. No one was catching fish because the rough seas caused everyone's lines to drift into each other, resulting in constant tangles instead of fishing. Eventually, the captain moved to another location, but by then a large portion of the trip had already been spent traveling. To make matters worse, fishing ended around 11:15 p.m., even though the trip was supposed to end at 12:00 am. We didn't get back to the dock until about 1:30 am., meaning we spent far more time traveling than actually fishing. Many passengers complained that the amount of fishing time didn't come close to justifying the long ride offshore. Overall, the trip was misleading, poorly managed, and not worth the money. The overall experience left many passengers disappointed, and it was obvious from the conversations on board that we weren't the only ones who felt the trip fell well short of expectations. A fishing charter should prioritize giving customers time to fish, not spending hours traveling into rough open water where many people couldn't even participate. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Laura Lee Charter.

My friend and I boarded the Northstar III, while we booked for the Northstar II. The staff said they were installing new engines in the II. Although I didn't catch anything during my trip except a crab,, they did make multiple stops and when the waves got a little rocky, they went to another spot. 90% of the spots we went to felt very calm. The first time I was on a fishing charter boat was in South Brooklyn and that experience was horrible. But with North Star, I didn't get seasick at all during my 4 hour boat ride. Boy, I was nervous!! My friend and I were lucky enough to be situated next to a lovely couple. Chatting with them and hearing their fishing adventures definitely made the time fly by. The staff were very helpful in refilling the bait and untangling the fishing lines. I would have liked if they provided different baits besides spearing. We went during 8am to 12pm and were trying to catch fluke, there were many searobins caught, few fluke and I don't think any of them were keeper size (19 inches for 2017). I didn't like that there were people close to me smoking, and throughout the trip I just smelled cigarette smoke. There should either be a rule of not smoking or segregating smokers and non-smokers. My overall experience was possitve, and I would definitely be using North Star again.
