I've worked in winnetka for 15 years where this captain nemos is located and was a huge fan of the high flyer sandwich and split pea soup they sell until I had a horrible experience. I would always go in during the summer and notice they always had a fly or flies flying around but I never gave it much thought til one day I bring my sandwich and soup I had just purchased back to my office and sunk my spoon into my soup and pulled out a big dead fly. It was disgusting and the last time I ever stepped foot there. I tried calling and letting them know but their phone just kept ringing with no answer. Captain Nemo's is like a second home to our family. The food is wonderful and the prices are very reasonable. My favorite is the cheese steak and my daughter loves their veggie sub. As someone who spent 8 years along the border of Delaware and Pennsylvania, I have had the best Philly Cheesesteaks that America has to offer. Captain Nemo's sandwiches are the tops. Worst Ruben ever had. Their food is prepackaged in freezer .......then microwaved for 60 seconds......Bread to dressing was all in the microwave. I don't even use a microwave at home. I have been coming here since high school. Their subs are amazing, well priced, and offer creative options that are a big step up in quality from a fast food place like subway or quiznos. My favorite is the turkey breast with cheese toasted. My boyfriend likes their roast beef with cheese toasted. Always, ALWAYS get the special sauce (its called CSS on their menu). This stuff is like oil and vinegar with a few added spices, and improves the quality of every sub. My parents bought a bottle to take home and dress up their subs! My only complaint about nemos is that they charge more for wheat bread than white... I am not sure why they do this. read more

This place is a local staple for lunchtime goers on the north shore of Chicago. It's that sandwich shop that is truly unique compared to it's chained counterparts. The location in Winnetka,IL is nostalgic to its customers because it immerses itself into the culture of the community. They are adaptable and are very transparent in operation. My husband and I have eaten at this place for decades. When I was pregnant 33 years ago I ate a whole sub everyday and my son is handsome, smart, and an awesome person. MaybeCapt'n Nemos had a part...just sayin. We went there yesterday and no magazines to read as we enjoyed our wonderful lunch. Every employee is awesome! I have never seen nicer interactive employees that are always smiling & saying hello. Is it the nicest place? This place is great. Called last night for the soup of the day and asked when they were closing. The guy said 10 mins, but told me he would wait and they did. Ten minutes later we were there and got the best turkey chili and sandwiches. Friendly, kind staff, and most important, wonderful bread. This particular Capt'n Nemo's is phenomenal. I drive roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic/time of day just to order a High Flyer. No other sandwich place is comparable. The guys who work there are always nice and seem to be in a good mood every time. Reserve that for the Subways and Jimmy John's of the world. The outstanding bread is the base of which these superb subs are based It is like taking a Cadbury egg and dipping it in Skippy. The sandwiches are always good - but not the service. I ordered 4 sandwiches for my office; asked the gentleman to please cut them in half- he said he would and did not. That is not so terrible, but when I paid for the food all he told me was the total I owed and handed me my change - no thank you or anything. We consumers can spend our money anywhere and the fact that we go to a certain establishment means everyone has jobs - without customers he would not have a job. To me it is just common courtesy to thank a person for patronizing the establishment where they work. read more
