We stopped at this local restaurant at the end of Pine Island for a quick lunch on our way to Ft Myers. I highly recommend it for freshly caught fish dishes! It has an old pub atmosphere, it kind of reminded me of the bars that line up the coast of fishing villages in Galicia. Dark and cool with great food and drinks! I had to try the Mullet Platter; the fish came either fried or blackened. I opted for the latter and it turned out to be a winner! Moist, hefty portions of fish filets, tastefully seasoned. We stopped for dinner outside on a brisk January evening. The waitress and the pie were the highlights. Our waitress could be a stand-up comedian given her witty quips - she should be in a diner. Very personable. She was a bit scattered in her service when it was busy but more attentive once it emptied out. My blackened fish (swai) was good not great as was the potato salad. The flounder and deviled crab platter were good - though it would have been better if the flounder was grilled vs. fried. The fried chicken was also solid. Now onto the pies - the key west key lime was excellent, good flavor with a bit of tartness. The peanut butter pie and blueberry pie also were great. Today Dave and I decided to check out Matlacha and Bokeelia since Hurricane Ian was here, a month ago. Even though I have lived in Florida since 1975, and been though a multitude of hurricanes, nothing could have prepared me for this. We usually rode out to Bokeelia, at least once a week and sat outside and watched the Pelicans. As we crossed into Matlacha, I was horrified to see the wreckage of some of our favorite places to visit. First we saw Island Pho, definitely inhabitable. Next a lot of the buildings were just flattened. Michelli's had a huge crowd in front of it with people walking towards the restaurant from everywhere. Little did we know that they were giving out free food and were reopening tomorrow! We were so happy to hear that! As we continued, Burt's Bar and restaurant was completely gone except for the pilings in the water. The hotel by the water was gone too, in shambles no longer welcoming you across the bridge. I think the fish store was condemned too. As we went across the bridge all the colorful little stores were there, but had severe damage. The Blue Dog was still standing, but it looked like a victim of water surge. I'm amazed that the Perfect Cup survived and will reopen on November 1! Yucatán, didn't look so good although it was still standing. We continued on to Bokeelia where the piers were also gone. We parked at Capt'n Con's and we were happy to see that it was still there! There was a sign that said that the internet was down and that it was Cash Only! Dave had spent most of his cash at the Post Office which didn't have any internet either. Between the both of us we had a measly $22.00. So we shared a tuna and chicken salad, an order of fries and a coffee. I was going to support this business no matter what! The comfort it gave me to eat there, with these people who even had a harder time than us. Thank you Capt'n Con's and staff for taking care of all your customers during this rough time! read more

Capt'n Con's is a perfect spot to have a meal on a warm out cold Florida day! We found this little oasis once we drove down the island on Christmas Eve. So festively decorated both inside and out and smiles and warmth to greet you as you walk in. Beach and parking lot right out front with a full bar and plenty of seating for large and small parties inside. They make their own seafood chowder which was so good. Huge menu with tons of choices and seafood options. I had the grilled grouper with fries and coleslaw. You get your choice of a side when you order a basket or dinner plate. The service was amazing! Don't be fooled by the dive bar feel and the, maybe, initially nonchalant servers. Pick your seat, window seats over look Charlotte Harbor which is a gorgeous water view, smile and make a little small talk with your server and they turn into a wealth of info and southern hospitality- even talking you into one of the many types of homemade pies. Chocolate coconut out of this world. Best grouper sandwich on all of Pine Island and blackened chicken sandwich was delicious. This is a down to earth place with a great view of the sunset and a fresh ocean breeze. If your taste buds are Michelin star level, this not your place. My wife looked on the map for an end of the road place we could watch the sunset, and this place popped up so we decided to take the long drive. Btw it is at the end of the road and the ends at a gravel lot leading to the Gulf of Mexico and a pier where you can watch the sunset. I like this place not for a certain expectation but how relaxed it made me feel. This is a place I would come to at the end of the day working in back breaking work in tough elements relax and let the stresses of the day go by. It's has a good choice of cold beers and simply cooked seafood. I had the seafood chowder which was tasty and hardy. It's was good for the soul and added to the view. The staff were kind and helpful. If you're used to fast hustle and bustle type of service not leave it at the door. Again, this a chill place. We were in the mood for fried food, and they didn't disappoint. Fried mullet, clam strips, coconut shrimp, fried flounder, and deviled crab. Had a great local vibe, and excellent service. I think our waitresses name was Deda, mad at myself for not remembering because she went above and beyond for us. Do NOT leave this restaurant without trying a slice of any of their homemade pies. This Captain has some delicious hamburgers! The fish, was fried well, a beautiful texture and color but the batter was bland. The fish was perfect though. The fries, lightly salted and so good. The coleslaw was bland. The cheese cakes? Oh dear goodness was so so good! I had a photo but by time I got home, the pie was unattractive so sorry I didn't post a photo. Over all though, I think 3 stars is for having a great selection of food, fried perfectly, and cooked amazingly. It needs more flavor for some dishes, and maybe a bit more prompt in. Serving, at least giving drinks and food this perfectly cooked, I'll wait an hour for so that's not an issue. It just didn't have any flavor to the fish. but hey, ketchup, tater sauce and lemons are there for. We will have to come back to give this place a great review but I think 3 stars will suffice. I cant wait that your missing out if you don't come here BUT if you want diner coffee, a slice of pie that will spike your blood sugar and make your mouth water, this is definitely the place. I wanted to like this place. I wanted to see this place as a hidden gem with a lot of character, but it's far from that! We arrived and there was a wait, no problem, we weren't on a schedule, but the problem is there is no room to wait. So we went outside to enjoy "the view" which was why we came, we were told the view was unbeatable. Well once you look past the parking lot, the view is nice... So we hear our name and enter the restaurant and the hostess is no where to be seen. Someone whom I guess is a regular told us to ask for Mary, and we looked around and found no one who looked like they worked there but a hand full of people who seem like they're there all the time telling us we took too long to get our table and lost the chance. I find the person who we put our name in with and she points to a room and tells us we'll find the table. I'm so confused and ready to leave... I wish we would have. The food is sub-par fried food, the drinks are what you'd expect from a hole in the wall establishment. The inside is dark and dingey, we were there in the end of February and they had Christmas trees and snowflakes hanging up. The place smells like mold, which I would overlook because of the hurricane but I suspect the smell has been here longer than the hurricane... Our waitress was lovely, and the only reason we stayed. read more

Stopped in Captain Con's for a couple of beers and an appetizer as my wife and I were exploring Bokelia. The mussels appetizer was really good but was a little on the salty side. If I order the same dish or their clams, I would ask for easy on the seasoning. All-in-all it was good though. Beers were nice and cold and service was great at the bar. Captain Con's also offers mullet and grouper baskets, sandwiches, salads, shrimp, oysters, prime rib and more. Next time we're in Bokelia, I'd definitely check Captain Con's out for dinner overlooking the water and pier. read more

We had lunch here, I ordered the coconut shrimp, and my wife ordered the fresh-caught grouper. We shared each other's entrees. The grouper was outstanding! The coconut shrimp was mediocre, since it was obviously purchased pre-breaded. A friend ordered fried shrimp, and they looked very good. The fries were also very good. The beer selection was limited to Budweiser products. I am looking forward to eating here again, but will order the fresh catch. read more

Food is good if you like everything fried and so on, as far as staff, well they don't think they should be in a hurry attending to clients, not very clean but it a experience, the building is old and it has a musty smell to it, but I guess that's what makes it unique. The waterfront is amazing and the gift shop is just around the bar, great experience if you are passing through. They need to improve. read more

We had lunch here for Mother's Day and it was fantastic! My husband had the coconut shrimp basket & pecan pie. I had the blackened grouper with peanut butter pie for dessert. Normally we don't do desserts but so many reviews raved about their pies. They are amazing! Large, fresh and delectable. Our meals were excellent and so was the service! We will definitely be back. Out exploring Pine Island for the first time, ended up at the north end of the island. Capt'n Con's looked like a quaint local hangout place (with a bit of tourist flair). We sat at an outside table, ordered a couple beers. I asked about the grouper on the menu, waitress said it was fresh. I ordered it blackened (wife had it grilled). It comes with fries and cole slaw. Posting for a friend who does Not have Yelp, but was so jarred by his interaction with the cashier he asked me to post for him...(again loved the waitress and the food)... What was a great meal and lovely service from Karen, our waitress, took a terribly dark turn when it was time to deal with the gift shop cashier. Again - only great things to say about Karen, who gave us her recommendation for lunch and who was just a delight. However, when we attempted to make conversation with the cashier (short, older lady in her 50s or 60s) she was incredibly rude to my wife and I. It was actually a little jarring how nasty she was to us. In retrospect, we decided she must be an incredibly unhappy person who resents dealing with customers and ringing up coffee mugs all day. We decided we didn't need any more interaction with her, returned our coffee mug and left the restaurant after paying. We are glad we supported Capt N' Cons after all this area endured from the hurricane, but we do not think we would ever return based on our interaction with the gift shop cashier. read more

While out on the water near Bokeelie, there isn't many places to enjoy food on the water. Capt'n Con's is one of the few places though not anything spectacular. First thing we encountered was docking. The Bokeelia fishing pier is right out front of the restaurant and does not allow docking. Your 2 options for boats are to either anchor and wade in to the sea wall (it's sandy and shallow) or boat around to the back cut to dock behind the restaurant. We opted to go to the dock. If you do this, there is no way to have eyes on your boat while eating and its a roughly 3 minute walk across a field and gravel parking lot. Once to the entrance of the restaurant, you can seat yourself inside or outside. There are plenty of umbrellas for shade but alcohol (beer and wine only) is only allowed inside or within the fenced area. We choose our seats and were quickly greeted by our waitress. She was polite but not friendly. When taking our orders she continuously asked me to repeat myself to the point that I ended up with 2 drinks. This didn't happen with anyone else at the table. The food came out fast and hot. It tastes great and was very reasonably priced. They have a bunch of daily lunch and dinner specials as well. I got the flounder and shrimp which was fried and not specified on the menu. I would have preferred grilled but didn't think to ask when ordering how it was prepared. Overall, this is a good place to checkout but there are better options in the area. It also boasts that it is ocean side, but you barely have that view with the traffic from the pier. read more
