My best friend, nieces and I visited this place because it was on our bucket list. It's been featured on a favorite TV show of ours, and my nieces were excited to have lunch and play some volleyball. We dined inside and had an appetizer of fried pickles, and we all ordered sandwiches (and a salad) with tots or fries. Everything was delicious. It was fun watching people playing volleyball on the numerous outdoor sandy courts. We played a game and it was only $10! You're probably not coming here for the food, but to play volleyball and hang out. My friend and I got the nacho plate and it was very average...lots of lettuce, some tomatoes, and a side of chili. It really needed pico or salsa. That said, we weee hungry and ate it. They were out of some of the beers we wanted, but settled on one of the sours which was fine. Fun place for beer and food. We were a group over over 100 people (beer club) The place is closed on Tuesays but they opened up the place for our group. Ordered food via their app. Good food, although the pulled pork was on the dry side. Fried chicken sandwich was filling, as was the burger. Tasty fries. The batteries fried mushrooms were hot and juicy. Their cocktail menu needs updating, as the font colors are very hard to read. read more

Pretty decent food. Went out on a Thursday night after a long drive to the town, the location was bit hard to find through gps. However the sandwich was good but the fries were a little too salty and covered with seasoning. Service was okay but rather slow for only having two tables and four people at the bar. We sat ourselves and figured out that you had to go to the bar to order drinks and food. I guess they are short on staff?? Food took 45 minutes to come out. Screaming children were running wild in the restaurants due to inattentive parents on the volleyball courts. Food was ok for bar food. Nice, new venue but poorly managed. We were hoping for a better experience. I doubt we will return as there are other sports bar options in Wilmington. read more

I've been going to Bill's since 2013 and have loved each visit. From 2013-2017 I was going weekly for volleyball games to see friends. Every person working there and every person who frequented Bill's was so incredibly friendly; everyone knew everyone and everyone made you feel like family. When I moved to NV I knew I would miss it. After 5 long years gone, I went to ILM and my top spot to eat at was Bill's. This time I got to introduce my spouse to the amazing environment and mouth watering food. Don't even get me started on their hush puppies or I'll cry. Musser's BBQ Plate is literally everything I loved about living in North Carolina beautifully put on a plate. Preface - we are huge fans of Bill's Front Porch and have stopped over to Captain Bill's several times to watch volleyball, so tonight we decided to give Captain Bill's a whirl for drinks and dinner! We saw on FB that Captain Bills had $10 burgers and beers on Thursday and that is a GREAT deal! You get to choose from beers brewed at Bill's Front Porch and I love all of those beers based on past experiences so we were very happy. We had the black IPA and the Pale Ale and and both were very good. Because we were starving we ordered the wings as an appetizer and man- they were delicious! We had them medium on our server's recommendation and as a wings junkie they were some of the best I've ever had. The blue cheese dressing was chunky just how I like it! Our special burgers were the "slop burgers" which came with the works..chili, cheese, veggies...you name it! They were HUGE! I mean for $5 there is no better deal... sadly I had one bite of mine not due to quality but to the fact that I ate EVERY single one of the 12 appetizer wings- sigh. Leftovers for dinner tomorrow.... Hubby said the burgers were incredibly filling- he is a fussy eater and ate every bite! It was so cool to watch the athletes play volleyball and we talked to several, asking them about the league, etc. Everyone was super cool and it was so entertaining to watch the various games and skill levels over the course of our meal. We had one main server but also had several others come by to check and chat with us- they were all super sweet and even gave us a few hints on The $2 "mystery beer" before we ordered. We will continue to patronize either Bill's Front Porch (see my Yelp review) or the Volleyball Club EVERY time we come to Carolina Beach- they are both that good and WELL worth the drive! read more

Threw my son's graduation party from UNCW at Capt'n Bill's!! Had them cater it and let me tell you the food was amazing and I didn't have to do a thing!! Plenty of room to have a party and having the courts right by the porch area was awesome!!! We had our own waitstaff and they were great!! My beverage never went empty!! Since I don't play volleyball, I've never really had a reason to go here. We went this weekend to watch a team in the tournament, and we just grabbed a table on the deck that had a decent view of all the courts. Now, this review is only for the food, which was wonderful. If you're wanting something fancy, this obviously isn't the place but if you're looking for some greasy bar food to eat while the athletic people drink their coconut water and play in the sand, you've found the place. The fries are hot and fresh and the cheesy grilled chicken wrap was simple but so delicious. The wait staff is constantly walking by to check on refills and the fans keep the air moving when it's 500 degrees outside. I may have to make some volleyball friends just so I have a legitimate reason to go eat another chicken wrap. read more

Dude... there's sand, volley ball nets, a tiki bar, and an endless amount of craft beers that taste amazing and aren't all pretentious like some of the down town spots. In my opinion Capt'n Bills is one hell of an all-American dive bar, I absolutely love it. Where else can you find great staff, great service, great food and drink specials, all with multiple volleyball courts right there in the backyard? I don't know where the negative reviews stem from, but my experiences here have been nothing but pleasant in just about every way I can count them. I wish I lived in the area, I'd be here quite often hitting up the volleyball league and showing off my non-existent skillset. But even if volleyball isn't your thing, it doesn't seem like you need to be a fan to enjoy yourself here. You can simply hang out on the back deck area, watch some sports, hangout at the outdoor bar, play horsehoes, or just admire other people for having active lifestyles. Food was great. Country cooking isn't really my thing, but their basic catering items were some of the best I've tasted. Drink specials seem decent, and they definitely aren't overcharging their non-specials by any means. Erin Musser and staff are absolutely the best part about this place. Grew up with a volley ball court in my backyard so when I moved to Wilmington and heard about this place I had to check it out. Great courts. Great atmosphere. Rachel was my server and was outstanding. Attitude and service was on point 100%. The wings were out of this world. The beer constantly cold. But the oyster shooters the oysters shooters were bar none the worst in the world. I don't expect large succulent oysters everywhere I go but at least have more than hell to serve along with it. TERRIBLE service. Took at least 20 minutes for someone to even realize we were there and ask us about drinks. Waitresses had tables all over the huge compound and were running back and forth, so it's more management's fault than theirs. Was told they serve the best fried chicken in town. It's true. The best fried chicken. We were there Thursday night and enjoyed $4.00 beer flights. Every beer was terrific from this brewery. Then half price apps, the large soft pretzel was hot and fresh, great with the beer. But the chicken!! Got a bucket which was served family style, four dinners and plenty of leftovers, enough for two more meals. Terrific service and a very cool vibe. I'm all for places that are pet friendly however I think the dogs should not be allowed in the sand area. I was watching volleyball and watched as a guy let his dog run all over the courts. The dog then peed in the sand and later took a dump in the sand. Yes in the area where people have to play and walk from court to court. The guy walked through some of the dump and picked up the big pile but not the little piles that the dog proceeded to leave every couple of steps. Nice to know that the little kids are out there sitting in the sand playing in that let alone the players playing in it. read more

I've been going to Capt'n Bill's for years & LOVE IT! Obviously if you love beach volleyball this is the place to be. But I really love this place for the food, people and fun times. They have one of the best burgers & BBQ in town & the bartenders are awesome. Because of the sand volleyball courts you can't have glass there, so the whole place has more of a tiki bar feel to it, which I love. Over the years the owner has made a lot of improvements...hi-def TVs everywhere, expanded the deck and seating options and improved the courts. They also have daily specials that help cut-down already reasonably priced food & cocktails. read more
