We ate here years ago. It was NOT a good experience. Though it's part of most the "dining" available in the area - if you want to call it that - it's rewarding to see others agreed with us, in that they too had about the same experience we had: NOT good. None the least, it has finally closed. Probably the best thing to happen to this place. Hopefully the new owners - if ever sold - will do better than this place presented to this small community for many years. We sincerely wonder how they were able to stay open so long! I can understand being open for so long, but if people aren't happy with the food nor the "service", they should have taken the hint years ago, to improve the food quality, and take a giant leap in the upping the service. Jon Taffer... Where are you?!?! Please come visit this place and offer it your services because they need it! We visited this cute little town just to enjoy the kiddie amusement park. UnFortunately there aren't a lot of places to eat after. We stumbled upon this place and decided to sit inside since a gentleman (we assume the owner) was outside with 3 tall cans of wasp spray, several beers and a sketchy dog. Total turn off -- you can see he was spraying that spray regularly judging by the wetness on the sidewalk. The sign said we can sit ourselves and we were eventually greeted by a bartender (think 90's Tara Reed). She was kind-- but not an excellent server/bartender. She's easily overwhelmed and forgetful. Overall the interior is dirty and dusty and don't get me started on the filthy bathrooms. If it weren't for our hungry kid we would have left. We decided to only order frozen "fried" foods in fear or food poisoning and cross contamination of any "fresh" meat options. Again, Jon Taffer, where are you, come help this place. The "nacho cheese" for the pretzel appetizer was burned. Clearly it's been sitting in the same warmer and being used for days. The kids chicken nuggets were just chicken tenders..... maybe they were out of nuggets? Or just haven't updated the menu.? The homemade fries look over cooked but are actually undercooked. The "Fred sauce" is ranch and sweet chili sauce mixed. The only decent thing was the onion rings. We Asked for plates multiple times and never got any for our shared appetizer items. So we were headed to a different restaurant for lunch on Saturday. Upon arrival we were told the kitchen had a fire. We ended up having lunch at The Captains Galley. The Bloody Mary was good. The appetizer nachos were very lacking. What looked like canned cheddar cheese over stale chips. Jalapeño peppers , black olives and some tomatoes. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fresh cut fries. The chicken was okay the fries were the best part. My husband had the pulled pork with veggies. The veggies were good, but the pork was very lacking. I would not return. read more

I have no idea how I randomly ended up in Olcott, but I did, and thanks to this place being pretty close to Lake Ontario I figured it would be a good spot to sit, eat, and enjoy the view. My trip to Captain's Galley was kind of a weird one. The patio was open thanks to the good weather and there was only a couple of other people at the restaurant Saturday night when we were seated. The tables were pretty dirty but that sometimes does happen when it's plastic and outside so I can look past that. The menu is pretty basic for the type of seafood/burgers menu they have and has plenty of different options to chose from. I ended up ordering the fried clams basket with french fries. What is my issue with the Captain's Galley you ask? well, after reading some of the other reviews it seems to same problem most other people also had. My fried clams were cold, my french fries were cold, and on top of that, my girlfriend french onion burger was somehow also cold. The food didn't take all that long to make, so I'm very very confused how both meals manage to come out at the same time, at/or below room temperature. Not a single thing on my plate tasted like it was cooked in the last 20 minutes. My girlfriends food at least had warm bread, however the french onion soup on the bottom, the fries, and the meat itself were all luke warm. Overall, this place had a friendly staff, and that was pretty much the only thing other then it's location it had going for it. I can get over dirty tables outside, but I can't look past 2 cold meals being served especially when it seems to be a reoccurring problem for this place. Mixed feelings on this place. We had driven to Olcott to eat lunch at another restaurant but found their kitchen closed due to a fire the night before. Captain's Galley was a short walk down the street and had a nice patio with I bit of a view of Lake Ontario so we decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly and we were allowed to sit where we wanted. We chose a nice table on the patio with an umbrella that blocked the sun. Someone drinking a Bloody Mary had caught our attention at the previous intended restaurant, so with the idea planted in our minds we each ordered one here. We both thought the Bloody Marys were decent. We decided to start with an order of nachos. We ordered them without one of the meat choices as we were both getting meals. These nachos were easily the most disappointing order of nachos I've ever tasted. They consisted basically of stale mostly broken tortilla chips covered with a barely warm cheese sauce. There was no lettuce and very few tomatoes and olives. The jalapeños were adequately portioned but all in all the nachos looked and tasted equally poorly. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich which while tasted good, contained a rather stingy portion of pulled pork. I chose the grilled veggies with it, which did taste good and were generously portioned. My wife ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were fresh cut and good. I did like their modern billing system. The check contained a code to scan with your smartphone which then allowed payment through Apple Pay. Nice location, friendly staff but they need to work a bit on the food. read more

My husband and I stopped in after visiting a few local wineries. It could just be the absence of drinks on our tab, but we found the price of our meal very reasonable. My husband had the special, a Delmonico steak, and I had the shrimp basket. We also had cheesy garlic bread but our bill was just over $30. The garlic bread was freshly made and enjoyably gooey without feeling greasy. My husband enjoyed his steak even though it was a thinner cut than he usually eats. We both liked the shrimp, which was perfectly cooked in a nice golden beer batter. The fries were nice and crispy, though my husband thought his tasted faintly of cinnamon. They were not very busy as the season is winding down, but service was prompt and friendly. I look forward to going back, especially for the cheesy garlic bread. read more

Stopped on as we were traveling through the area. The person that waited on us never came back to check on us until she brought the bill. Thats when I was able ask for additional tea. Ordered the fried clams , french fries were so soggy with grease I considered inedible. My wife ordered their "signature sandwich"beef with onion soup and onion rings. Nasty! The front door was closed and to get inside you have to go around the building and on the back there is a wheelchair ramp so you go up the ramp to get inside the restaurant. The patio was open so we sat outside and ordered food. The food arrived in about 40 minutes. On the good note, the location is perfect and just a short walk from the water. The staff was friendly and the food was good. When you done eating and want to get out there is no entrance from the outdoor patio so you have to go inside and exit from the back of the building. read more

We walked in and there were very few people here so we were nervous. We sat down and the bartender was awesome. Very nice and very quick. We all ordered burgers and I got the "thriller". Very very good especially for being "bar" food. read more

Our first time traveling to Olcott Beach, we arrived around 8pm and looked around for a place to eat. We were delighted to come across the Lighthouse Grill. Very comfortable, retro restaurant (nautical decor with carved mermaids and ships and fish nets) with very friendly staff. I had the seafood chowder (wow, fresh clams!?!?) and the fish fry which I ordered with roasted baby potatoes. All very good, piping hot and fresh. They also make their own bread - what I thought was going to be yet another sour dough roll was instead this fragrant homemade roll that was a good sign of the meal to come! read more

Should be zero. 99% of the menu is frozen - exception (Salad). I am sure the person (fry cook at best) in the back warms, heats with skillet, frys and well does anything but creates a meal. You can tell when all of the food is frozen and and not fresh. Being on the water you would think they would take more pride in their ingredients. Disgusting. Go to Tops, buy fresh seafood and you tube a delicious recipe. Save money, and enjoy. Then you can drive up to Olcott and take in the beautiful view. I would actually give NO stars but that's not an option. We went out for taco tuesday, staff was nice no issues with that! However, the food made everyone on the party extremely sick (we enjoyed the bathroom) for the remainder of the evening! We called the following day to report how all of us were extremely sick (told the manager what we ordered (chix wings, 2-taco salads-beef, and burger) and the response was.......... The owner of the restuarant was rude and a chronic complainer making for an unpleasant visit.. venting to customers. Calling the police for no good reason. They definately need a better cook.....the French fries the first time were over cooked & served COLD, the 2nd time they were hot but under cooked. The fish was luke warm. The fish left a greasy taste. The coleslaw was just shredded cabbage with a few bits of carrots with NO dressing on. I got a salad to go.... but there was nothing to eat it with when asked. If you go on a nice day, be sure to sit on the patio. They have burgers for a dollar on Thursday. I was reluctant to try so I ordered the daily special burger with onion rings. My wife ordered the Greek salad. We had a glass of wine with the lunch. Burger and onion rings were excellent. Greek salad was good, nothing fancy. We shared the apple tart a la mode for desert which was very good. Regarding the $1 burgers... a couple ordered 3 of them, shared an order of fries and 2 sodas. Including tip, they paid $14. First, the food is decent and fresh. The mac and cheese is good, but would be much better not served cold. I would like to come back, but not if what I saw yesterday was a regular occurrence. My family went for dinner around 5pm and all was good until loud club music was started up just before 6pm, and some bar patrons were acting dumb clearly from having a few beers. I'm not a prude and enjoy a few good drinks, but I would suggest the bar staff keep things in check better until after dinner. There were many families there, and with young children. It's not exactly appetizing to see a middle aged man removed his shirt and expose his hairy back within view of families. I have no problem with people having fun or being goofy, but wait until after dinner for the shenanigans. Also, our server had no personality. A smile or expression would be nice. All in all, this place is decent, but you lose a star for the club music, one for the cold food, and one for the service. This place could easily be 4 or 5 stars if management had a better grasp of things and remembered there is a family atmosphere during the day in Olcott Beach. read more

Stopped here for lunch almost solely because they advertised on their Facebook page as well as on the outside of the building that "kids 12 & under eat free on Fridays" (we had 4 adults and 3 kids who fit that description). The place was packed when we walked in around 12:30, including several families with younger children who obviously saw the same advertisements we did. After double checking with the waitress about the kids being free, we placed our orders, only to have her come back 5 minutes later and explain that kids only eat free after 5 PM, even though that "fine print" wasn't depicted anywhere. That let the air out of the room and some of the other families were as annoyed as us. After one family discussed the issue with the waitress, she returned to say they would honor the kids eating free advertisement. It seemed like they did so reluctantly even though we as customers felt duped for even stepping foot in the place. The poor waitress was basically the only one working, and responsible for about 12 tables all of which had people seated. We had a pitcher of water for our table, but 1 adult never even got a cup to drink from and the empty pitcher sat there for nearly our entire meal before they brought another. My empty Pepsi cup also sat empty and was never refilled. I asked for a side of wing sauce with my order - a fried shrimp basket - which never came. Overall, it was not an enjoyable experience. Good food, good service, priced right. Nothing extraordinary, or high end, but you get what you expect and it's good. Had the 1 dollar burgers, and they were decent, with good fries and onion rings. Captains platter on a Friday was pretty big, and really good, as was the baked fish. They could use a pager or beeper system for the servers though, as our last dinner was good except when the cook would open the kitchen door and yell "Jazzy" when orders were up :) read more

People should know that they have a limited menu on weekends. I didn't see that on their web site and was disappointed when we got there. The food was ok, the service a bit slow. We were at the Pirate Festival at Olcott Beach and were looking for a place to eat afterwards. It was us, our son and daughter-in-law and two children 5 yrs and 2 yrs old. The place was nice, the menu was minimal and the prices were average. Not much to choose from on the menu. We read the reviews after we got there and the waitress indicated that the Reuben sandwich was not very good. 3 of us ordered the beef on weck, it was okay, I've had better, but I've also had worst and everyone agreed with that. Most complaints were about the service, however we were lucky to have a nice young waitress who, although sometimes forgot things (she may have been new) was very gracious and accommodating. We probably would not go back again unless things change. read more
