The espresso was strong, but it meshed well with the spices and pumpkin purée. This is a super popular cafe and it's definitely very cute inside and they're very established in the community but my 2 cents is I think this is the kind of place you would probably really really like if you're kind of a "coffee snob" (into quality coffee), or just into plain and simple, no-frills drinks that are probably made with quality ingredients, but in my opinion I've found that as someone who really likes very sweet drinks and very unique drinks, I have yet to find an order from here I love. I've tried it several times and I kinda find that each drink tastes very similar- just, like coffee. They usually look cute though, to be fair. For the price being around $8 each time, too, not including tip, it's hard for me to wanna come all the time. However, I understand that they boast using very good ingredients and that lots of people probably are the opposite of me and specifically seek coffee that isn't overly sweet, or tastes mostly just of coffee, so if that's you I think you'd like it. Another thing to note is it does get very popular, so if you're planning to come on a weekend or holiday, plan to spend time there, and there may not be much seating. The decor is such a beachy, chill vibe and everyone working here is super friendly and helpful. It was extremely busy - which is always a good sign! Stopped by here on our vacay after reading good reviews on Yelp. There was a decent line on a Saturday morning, but it moved quickly. The staff was helpful in guiding us, since it was our first time. We ordered a few drinks. Matcha latte with oat milk - 3/5 wasn't warned that it doesn't come sweetened sadly and the oat milk wasn't super creamy as I would like. Pour over (can't remember the roast) - 4/5 coffee was good and tasted very floral and refreshing. Iced peach black tea - 3/5 it was fine, nothing special Vanilla latte - 4/5 seemed like a lighter espresso roast and it was perfectly sweetened. Was in Monterey for the weekend, and my coffee-addict friend told me I had to check this place out. They also warned me it gets busy, so I got there a bit before it opened. I was hungry and excited to see an egg sandwich on the menu--perfect pairing with my morning coffee. The coffee itself was excellent. I went two days in a row and would go again in a heartbeat if I lived nearby. Next time I'm in Monterey, this place is definitely on my list. Now, the disappointing part: the egg sandwich isn't available when they first open. The egg portion still needs time to bake, and they told me it would be ready about an hour after opening. This happened both days I went, so it seems like that's just how they do things. Personally, I find it odd that a breakfast item like that isn't ready for the early crowd. I ended up getting a scone one day and a croissant the next--both fine, but I was really craving a savory egg sandwich. Bonus points for the fun merch. My friend bought a sticker and I grabbed a hat. One last stop before we headed out of Monterey back to our home city. Heard good reviews bout this place and decided to try. Great ambiance and vibe, felt free and open. Staff was nice and helped me pick a drink since I am not a big coffee person. They recommended a pourover. That being said, the one I chose was utterly disgusting. I believe it was the 1st option under pourover. Perhaps coffee truly isn't for me. My gf got a iced matcha latte and that was great, despite me not liking matcha like that. We came on a Saturday morning and it was super busy! Staff was friendly but my rating is solely for the drinks. Both the vanilla latte oat milk and mocha with oat milk tasted pretty diluted and it barely had any vanilla taste to it. Maybe would've ordered another vanilla pump but I believe it's $1 each time. Fun fact, I love coffee. Each time I'm in a new city I like to hunt down the best coffee house in town. With that said Yelp referred me to Captain + Stoker. The shop is designed into an auto body shop which was super cute. this is a super cute coffee shop in downtown Monterey! the service was amazing and they put great care and detail in their work. i ordered a seasonal item, the gingersnap latte. it had lots of Christmas-y spice in it and felt like a warm hug. the drink itself wasn't too sweet either which was a plus! We have been coming here for three years and we have loved everything about it. The coffee, the staff, the ambiance. But unfortunately, today was the last time we'll be in. We make great coffee at home, so if it's just good coffee we want, we make it ourselves. We come in here to enjoy a little coffee date with our dog, and we love that they have a canister of dog treats for her. Today when we went in, the manager came over and informed us that they don't allow dogs and we'd have to leave. He was respectful and polite, but if they're not dog friendly, why do they have a dog bowl and dog treats inside? At any rate, we won't be back, since coming our dog isn't welcome. The soft boiled egg should be included in it but instead it is something that needs to be requested. Very disappointing to know that THAT item is bwing sold on the menu as is. Absolutely wonderful "locals" roastery with multiple blends and single origins available to go or via subscription. I had their house blend "The Captain" in a Cortado and it was "Kona mild/smooth" to my taste, just delightful if that's your jam. The place was a block off the main street but was clearly a local favorite, and was fairly crowded but not obnoxiously so. Everyone behind the counter seemed super laid back and chill and while I waited in a small line that was ever present, it moved fast. This place was probably a garage or something commercial with roll up garage doors that was converted into an amazing coffee shop. There was good amount of seating for everyone but it does fill up quickly. The oat milk latte was really good. My only complaint was that it had A LOT of foam so it was more of a cappuccino instead of a latte. It was good, nonetheless. The morning bum as yummy and not overly sweet.
