Captain Roy's is a fun little bar right on the water. Large patio area and the building has large garage doors. The drinks and food are delicious. Staff is very friendly. Great place to catch some live music. It's a great destination to ride your bike to

I went there last night and had the best time I've had in a long long time. They had live music. Excellent selection of beer. Great atmosphere right on the river. Got a beyond burger and it was cooked just right with nice extras It wasn't super crowded but the waits for service was long and took a while to get food. It's early in the season, maybe just needed to get going. But it was so enjoyable didn't matter

Food truck stop! This was a pop up bike night meet where you biked, walked or whatever to get yourself to the party. The smell from the truck was amazing. We got up and checked out the burger menu. Not even a moment into reading it my husband knew he wanted the garbage burger. Oh my: burger, Cole slaw, fries and fried egg all on this bun. I got the bus burger, just the meat patty, toppings and bun. I got mine with a tremendous helping of curly fries. The serve adult drinks or kids drinks. The meat patty was easily a frozen patty, but you can't really hold that against them since it was a truck. I think I'm most in love with the curly fries and great attitude of the people who work on this bus.

I've been here many times but decided to bring my 10 yr old here after a day at the pool. We ordered at the counter and the bartender was extra nice and helpful. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger with fries and my son the chicken and waffles. My burger hit the spot and he said he wants the chicken and waffles to be his last meal lol said it was the best thing he's ever eaten.

Good beer, including all the latest from Confluence - Cheese sticks and other good bar food from the food truck - Questionable music heard from the boaters passing by - Captain Roy's is that place in town that you keep talking about, but don't get there as often as you'd like; when you're there, though, you make a stronger mental note to not wait so long before your next visit. Best patio in town, hands down.

We always stop here when our bike rides take us thru Birdland Marina. I hid from the rain here so long it made my bike ride wobbly afterwards. The change this place has seen over the last couple of years is great! This part of the bike trail and marina has needed a place like Captain Roy's for years and I super glad someone has taken the time to create it. Alcohol and beer selections are right on target not so many, but everything you'd want. Live music on an old pontoon gives the ambiance of a great river haunt you'd frequent. Just enough light hanging over your head at night to keep things casual. The addition of the deck overlooking the river is where I always want to sit and that's true of almost everyone going there and why I can't always get a table up there. Sometimes I just go up there and ask "you mind me joining you?" I've never been turned down. People just love having fun here. The food is from a truck and to be honest I've only had the hot sausage sandwich. Ever visit a place and you were so impressed with the first item you ordered and never deviate from that ever again, well that's my problem. I dig their hot sausage sandwich. Once I even got to meet Captain Roy made my day!!!

Very unique and wonderful set up for Des Moines. There are very few places around that you can sit on the patio, have a drink, dinner and listen to a live band while looking over the river. The staff is always friendly and the bar food from the on site food truck is pretty amazing.

Great Guys, Crazy Truck, with lots of stuff to choose from! Captain Roys was parked outside of Confluence Brewery last Saturday! My wife was in need of some food after some brews and she said well got grab me something while I change our baby's Diaper! Since she was changing the Diaper I must have had GARBAGE on my mind cause when I saw Captain Roys have a Garbage Burger on the menu I had to order it! I got my wife a Garbage Burger, it comes with a fried egg on it, fries, lettuce, tomato, onion... in other worlds the whole works! She dug it and the fries! I made it a basket for her for 3 bucks more! Which comes with a side and a pop! I didn't eat anything but I ordered and waited in line and the staff was great, making everyone feel welcome and the food did not take long! Hope to see Captain Roys Crew again someday!

There were three food trucks and grilled cheese fit the bill for the four of us (2 adults, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old). It's not the most attractive looking truck but, most of them aren't. Their menu was posted on the side showing the grilled cheese or nacho offerings. We knew our one year old would get a plain grilled cheese but it took a bit to determine the others. So many tasty sounding options! Our four year old declared she wanted pineapple on hers. Great, really, pineapple on a grilled cheese? They had it! A Hawaiian Toast! It was cheese, Canadian bacon, and pineapple...perfect for her! We added a Mason Dixon which has pulled pork, pepper jack cheese, and BBQ sauce. A #Hashtag (corn beef hash, soft poached egg, and American cheese) rounded out our order. The sandwiches came out rather quickly, and in pairs. The first two that came out were the kids' and they looked yummy. The plain grilled cheese was thick and melty with perfectly toasted bread. Our little guy had no problem scarfing it down. Our daughter was thrilled with the pineapple on hers and ate about half the entire sandwich (a good amount for her). I enjoyed my Mason Dixon and my husband enjoyed his #Hashtag. He did have to ask for a fork as it was a bit messy. We finished off the kids' sandwiches. I enjoyed the plain one a lot! My husband's only comment on the Hawaiian toast was it'd be better if they could toss the pineapple on the grill to caramelize a bit first. This food truck is a solid choice for lunch!

Is it August? Are you in Iowa? Then you got fair food on the brain…read more At work, we are kicking off the state fair with fun events. Today, they spoiled us with a food truck. Got us in the mindset by bringing in this great food truck. When they said we'd get our taste of the fair, they weren't joking. Everyone was pumped and came right out to get in line. I think I lucked out and was pretty early in the crowd. There was a whole list of foods to choose from. A really nice lady stood out front and took your orderShe was all smiles, helpful, and gave off great energy. She knew the right questions to ask and took your order. 10 out of 10 on the smile and service. I know they were slammed, but they worked hard to meet all the orders as quickly as they could. I ordered the Tenderloin with Leomade. I also ordered the fried oreos to share with my coworkers. I saw orders of hot beef Sundae and funnel cake fries come out. Walking tacos and chicken bites. No matter what your order, I see smiles and excitement. The food was perfect. The Tenderloin was perfectly fried in a bun with pickles. The oreos were sensational. I got to try the funnel cake fries, and they were good as well. Can't go wrong with anything fried and covered in powdered sugar. To top it off. Their Fair lemonade washed it all down and hit the spot. They did a great job. I heard so many compliments from my coworkers. I would 100% recommend for any employer to hire them to spoil your employees. I would 100% recommend the food if you see them in your neighborhood.

Finally had a chance to hit up the Waab's Piggin' Out truck today…read more The truck was parked at the Mini Cooper dealership off of 100th and Hickman in Clive. Watch their Facebook page...they're pretty good about posting where they are scheduled to be and the time they will be there. I ordered the brisket sandwich. It's a heavy sandwich...and not one for the dainty eater. They asked if I wanted to pickles and onions on it... Sure. You talked me into it. Thicker sliced brisket on a focaccia roll/bun. The brisket was cooked perfectly and it was pull apart tender. The sandwich filled a standard 6 inch by 6 inch take-out box from corner to corner. The BBQ sauce was sweet, tangy, and had just a touch of heat. I have no idea if the sauce is custom or a third party. I'd assume it's their own; I didn't ask. We had a very short wait between ordering and being handed our food. The truck staff was polite and efficient. Waab's accepts cash or cards. Brisket sandwich and a 1 oz. bag of chips ($8). 16 oz. soda ($1.25). Definitely a thumbs up and I'll go back and try a few more of their items when I can catch them on the West side. Usually I write more, but I'm finding it hard to fluff this up. Just good BBQ.
