Wingz On Wheelz is located in the Advanced Auto Parts parking lot…read more I've been wanting to check this truck out FOREVER, but I wasn't sure if it could live up to the hype I'd heard from others. Spoiler... It sure did. I wandered down University Ave to MLK, through the construction in the Drake area, and the truck was easy to spot. I got there at about 620ish PM. There's ample parking in the lot of the auto parts store. A small crowd had built up. Some people were waiting to order...some were just waiting for their food. Social distancing was being observed for the most part. 50 cent wing Wednesdays. I'm not a big fan of a standard buffalo sauce so I really like that they have a lot of different options to choose from. Some spicy some not. Hopefully you can see the list by zooming in on the picture of the menu board. I ordered 10 garlic parmesan and 10 Cajun wings, but I didn't stop there. I had to try the shrimp and catfish too... I don't even want to talk about cost... I spent too much, but I have lunch for tomorrow. The ordering process went smoothly. I had a bit of a wait, but even though I wasn't the only one standing they kept me updated from the window and apologized for the wait when my number was called. Stellar customer service from a very busy truck. The wings were cooked perfectly. Not dry and not undercooked. The sauces and seasoning was nicely done. I like it when the taste of the chicken is complimented and not overpowered. They are a little on the small side, but if I recall correctly they are... Ahhhh... I forget the fancy word. No hormones. They're better for you and the all naturally raised wings tend to be a little smaller. It's all good. The catfish was excellent. Once again cooked perfectly. The breading had a great texture and taste. The fillet broke away easily to expose the white flesh. You could tell it was catfish, but it wasn't a strong catfish taste. I grew up eating bullheads and channel cats. It's something I love. A comfort food for me. I really enjoyed this menu item. These would be perfect for a po'boy. That being said... The shrimp. These are legit. To put anything on these, outside of just popping them in your mouth with the seasoned breading, would be a crime. I can honestly say as far as fried breaded shrimp these may be the best fried shrimp I've ever had. The breading isn't thick, and the shrimp are really nice sized. They hit a perfect balance. This truck has moved into my top three local trucks from the jump. Obviously popular from it's crowd, a good staff, and excellent food. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to give them a try... I'll definitely be a return customer. Don't take my word for it though... Go check them out.

I visited on a Saturday drive into Des Moines. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was fresh and hot. The portions were pretty great and it looked good, but it just didn't taste that spectacular. I had higher expectations for a Black owned food truck serving in a diverse area in Des Moines. The food was cooked perfectly, but it wasn't seasoned well enough. There wasn't much flavor and pizzazz to it. If you care more about crunch then flavor, hit them up. They had a steady stream of business and people seem to like it. Sadly, it just didn't do it for me.

I was able to try a new truck today that I hadn't made it to yet... Street Eats DSM…read more Klickle showed them right off of 47th and Westown and I remembered it was food truck Wednesday over at the Regency buildings (4700 Westown Pkwy in West Des Moines). They normally park on the South side of the buildings... Last year there was usually three or four trucks out there every Wednesday...this year only two most of the time. I've had my eye on Street Eats DSM and as luck would have it they were parked alongside one of my other favorite trucks today...Jack & Vinnie's (owned and operated by Club 2000). But I came for Street Eats DSM...got to stick to the plan. I'd already scoped out the Rocky Balboa online. Philly style beef, natural cut fries, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and American cheese on a large hoagie roll... The other menu items sure looked really good too. Ordering and paying was a snap and I was surprised when they handed me a buzzer to signal me when my order was ready for pickup. What is this madness? Is this witchcraft? A truck using a buzzer call system... Have pigs flown and hell froze over? I have no idea what this costs to maintain, but I hope other trucks start using this... My buzzer went off after a short wait and I grabbed my sandwich and headed to the car for the short drive back to my office. The sandwich was $9 and a can of Coke was $1. So a total of $10 before tip... My biggest issue with some food trucks is that I don't feel like I get the amount of food I would at a restaurant. Probably why I like Jack & Vinnie's...this is never an issue with them. It's not an issue with Street Eats DSM either... I am pleasantly full, not stuffed, but I feel like it was money well spent. I'm not usually a big fan of potatoes on my sandwiches, but the fries were crispy and added a nice crunch along with being very filling. The sandwich was cooked well...all components...and the staff provided really good service. You can't expect much more than that off a truck. A big thumbs up. Glad I finally caught up with these guys. 2nd visit. Stopped over at Regency West for Food Truck Wednesday again. Street Eats DSM and 515 Pi were there. Top Bun and Roadside Tacos were no shows. So... Street Eats DSM again it is... As I said previously they had other menu items I wanted to try anyway. :) I decided to try the Cajun tacos today and I made sure to say hello to Aaron. He's a nice guy and the man can cook... I ordered the Cajun tacos...one shrimp and one catfish. 2/$7. The shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly. The other ingredients were fresh, and the remoulade has a great flavor to it. Like Jack & Vinnie's this is a truck I don't walk away from hungry or unhappy. Great service. The menu items are a good bang for your buck as far as size/quantity and quality. I know fish and chips and shrimp and fish tacos has been a hot item lately... I'd suggest putting this truck on your to-try list for both. The buzzer call system they use is genius. It would probably have been more efficient today if I hadn't been standing in front of the pick up window talking. (Dates of service: 07/11/2018 and 07/18/2018)

The truck was set up in the parking lot and the line was just forming. The menu was written on a chalkboard. The details of each item were very thorough. I was very interested in the chicken bruschetta. We ordered and it took about 3-5 min for the fresh food to come to the window. Oh my it was huge! Starting from the bottom was a big ol bun. Then was the hot fresh French fries..Oh and then the shredded chicken, bruschetta, and pesto mayo and cheeses. I thought the flavor was fantastic and wished I didn't have so far to walk back to my company so I could eat it right down. The amount of food was too much for my little mouth so I had to get it back to where I could cut it down again. Next time I am skipping the bun and having it all on fries!!

We ordered two pastor tacos. The meat was tender and flavorful. Although the pork was covered in red sauce, it was not very spicy at all (and I usually am sensitive to spicy food). The workers here were friendly and the food was prepared quickly. Their menu is quite extensive and prices seemed reasonable. The place loses a star because they did not have any salsas already prepackaged for carry out orders. Their salsa selection was in front of the counter where you order, in an open dish, which I thought was quite unsanitary since anyone could sneeze into it or bugs could crawl into it.

Well I drove by the truck on the way home. We have talked about going for a long time. I walk in the door and whispered the magic word, "tacos?" The next thing I know we are walking right down the block. I love a home cooked meal and this is exactly what you're getting. I have recently come to enjoy Chimichanga. I ordered mine -without beans- and a coke. My partner in adventures ordered a burrito. His burrito was huge. ;) We ate like kings for $14.00. My Chimichanga came out piping hot. Everything was rolled together and was with delicious tasting meat. It was not smothered in cheese, it was more like a garnish which was great cause then i don't only taste cheese. His burrito was stuffed full of all its glory and came with a couple chips. We sat in the setting sun under the tent and gorged ourselves on what we feel was as authentic homemade Mexican meal. We thanked the cook and praised him on the food and tipped him generously. He was out there in the heat of a food truck and sun and making delicious food for who knows how many or how little of a crowd each time. We are going back,
