City Barbeque

City Barbeque

We are from Illinois and visit relatives in Londonderry several times a year…read more A couple of years ago, we came to Circleville to go to the Pumpkin Show and passed by City Barbecue. Our intentions were to stop here for dinner after we left the show, but everyone was too tired to stop. I was out voted and we ended up going home. After several more trips to Ohio, I made it my mission to get here. I'm glad we finally made it. The first thing I noticed when we pulled into the parking lot were the three big smokers with all of the split wood out front. When we walked inside, the restaurant is really nice, wood decor and butcher block tables, and very clean. Walking up to the register to place our order, the smokers we seen outside were on the left and they all had names. Ted, Winky, and Tiger, lol. We got to the register to place our order I told the very nice lady we have never been there so she helped us through the menu. We decided on the Judges Sampler. This dish included brisket, half slab of St Louis style ribs, pulled pork, we took the choice of chicken leg and thigh, Texas toast, and our two sides were coleslaw and corn muffins. The food was wonderful. All of the meats had a very nice smoke ring and great smoked flavor. The brisket was very moist and tender and had a perfect bark. The same with the pulled pork, you can see the wonderful smoke ring on the pulled pieces and it had incredible bark pieces mixed in. I love the little bits of the crunchy bark with the moist pork. The ribs were fantastic! I personally prefer babybacks but that wasn't an option. These were the St Louis style ribs and again, they were fantastic! Very meaty, great tasting, and easy to eat. We had a choice of chicken breast and wing, or chicken leg and thigh. We chose the leg and thigh. I loved the crispy skin and the moist smoky flavor of the meat. Chicken tends to be a little dry, but not this chicken. It was smoked perfectly! The Texas toast was good, I loved the corn muffins and the coleslaw. The coleslaw was creamy and was a vinegar based slaw. Very tasty. The absolute best thing I loved about our Barbecue was that none of the meat came out sauced. The sign of great Barbecue is served unsauced. It shows they are not trying to cover up poorly cooked food. However, they do have several different sauces available if you like. I didn't need it for our meal. I tried a taste of the original sauce, the sweet city, and the brush fire sauce. They were all very good, but like I said, I prefer my Barbecue without sauce. It's my personal choice that I like. I'm glad we were able to find the time to make it to City Barbecue in Circleville. It was a great experience, with great staff, and great food. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Ohio.

We each shared fried pickles. The pulled pork was good juicy, but loaded with salt on the initial bite. The chicken tenders were crispy, but one that my daughter had was not cooked all the way. She tried cutting it and the color just wasn't there. The fried pickles seemed to lack breading and were flimsy. It's almost as if the fried pickles and chicken tenders were rushed as the rest of what we had cooks longer and ready-to-serve. It was as if the chicken tenders and pickles were hurried along. The bbq sauce is very tasty! I'd definitely go back and give it another shot, just not go with the tenders or pickles.

Based on a number of favorable Yelp reviews, we decided to try The Thirsty Parrot. One review referred to it as Circleville's "secret" and another commented that it's an often forgotten Circleville bar in a crummy part of town. I would say it's a little off the beaten path but not far from the center of downtown. When we arrived, the waitress said we could sit anywhere. Once seated, she was there right away to take drink orders. We were intrigued by one of the appetizers -- Reuben egg rolls - and ordered one to split. This was an interesting twist on a Reuben AND an egg roll and was delicious. For lunch - it seems their "signature" dish is their bourbon chicken which my wife ordered. She said it was excellent. Being a "burger freak", I opted for their cheeseburger which comes in a 1/4#, 1/2# or full 1# version. I opted for the 1/2# version and added a side of fries. The burger was excellent - a definite candidate for my "top 5 burger" list. The "side" of fries ($7) was enormous and was excellent. The fries were the thin fries typical of good pub grub. My wife shared some fries and said they were some of the best fries she'd had. Service was good if a little spotty but there were only 2 waitresses working when we arrived and then one went off-duty leaving 1 to cover the whole restaurant. Despite there being just 1 waitress, she did a pretty good job of covering everyone.

Love the parrot!! Great food, very clean and reasonably priced. Service is good also.read more

My friend said the Alfredo was good and the soup and salad were excellent. The mushroom Marsala soup was fantastic and the salad was extremely fresh. I also ordered a pizza to go(so I wouldn't have to fix dinner). While we were eating our server brought a pizza out for my "approval". Said the kitchen staff baked it a bit too long and asked if the pizza was too charred for my taste. Unfortunately it was too charred. He took it back to the kitchen and they remade my pizza. Second pizza was perfect. That is great customer service! I will definitely return to Lievita. It is a great addition to food choices in Chillicothe. I was totally impressed.

Despite living 30 minutes away we had yet to give this place a try. Located on Paint Street near Yoktangee Park, parking can be an issue. During the day it's metered - after 5 no charge but still rather limited spots for the number of stores in the area. We found one across the street. We got there about 30 minutes before closing but service was courteous and we were seated and had our food within 20 minutes. We weren't the only late arrivals. Another couple came in behind us. We felt bad about being there after closing but many tables still had people eating when we left. We asked for the pizza they are known for and got a 16" NY style cheese pizza brought to us in minutes. Super hot! Overall, we were underwhelmed with the pizza. Sauce was good and not acidic. Pizza could have used more cheese. It seemed like the sauce to cheese ratio favored sauce. The star was the crust. Nice and crunchy. Edge was cooked nicely but I would have liked it to have give a little longer so the middle had more structure. Next time we'd definitely order it topped. They use cupped pepperoni so my husband was happy. I generally eat cheese pizza but even I said it could benefit from a topping or at least more cheese. I'd give the place 7/10 but we're willing to try other things on the menu to see if the cheese pizza just wasn't for us.

I was irked that he didn't even try to tell us that it was busy and understaffed until arriving to take order at table. The drinks arrived swiftly once we were acknowledged. Not sure why the server had to keep coming back to table to ask questions about it. After several minutes of no food, bread was finally brought to the table. After what felt like forever, the food arrived. The food was very good and there were no complaints about it. Everything tasted fresh. Waiting on the food for over an hour was not worth the trouble. We thought this would be a good place to get food since it was close to hotel and it wasn't. If I stayed in the area again, I wouldn't eat here again and would go somewhere else.

Our choices: lamb appetizer, black cod, sirloin, and chocolate mousse; each were tasty, presented well, and excellent dishes. The potato cake on the steak was very different and well done. Our Old Fashion had a nice taste. The place is very small and reservations are a must. The GM Michael came by and chatted us up...to thank us for coming, and glad they were able to accommodate our food needs. Nice touch. Excellent bathrooms. Thanks for that. We were nervous at first because no one we talked to knew what Gene's was BUT we are SO SO SO glad we went! From the moment you step onto their property it was such an incredible experience. Who knew such a cute and quaint little restaurant could pack so much flavor and art into their food and such a personalized dining experience. While we had a reservation at 8:45, we decided to eat in at the bar after having the most incredible espresso martini of our lives and talking to John. My sister and I opted to share multiple courses - each of which was better than the last. It was an amazing experience and we were lucky enough to compliment and thank the executive chef in person. We left full and satisfied but not stuffed which is exactly what we were looking for! HIGHLY recommend Gene's if you're looking for an elevated dining experience and great service while in Dublin, Ohio!
