They are really nice to me and food are so good and then the mountain dew has a lot of syrup

So my family and I made the journey here from our not so located home in Alvin mind you and we find out once we arrived that the food from their menu ( we step inside ) was not what we expected on the photos alone . There is a difference with fish sticks ( tenders/ strips and actual fillet slices. They do not have actual fillet slices folks...so for 30 bucks you're getting something smaller then a fillet. Mind you noone knew what a fillet was and then we told that what they serve is what they been serving from the original start up year ( in the 50s?) but with the high cost of living we were sorta hoping for bigger slices of fish period .... Just a heads up for anyone who isn't sure what they are getting. Just ask them in person what the actual portion is ... We chose to leave and go somewhere else read more

One star is minimum for me to file this review. I've been a loyal customer here since the mid 1980s. Always was a "semi-special" occasion go-to place to splurge or just causually celebrate something. Last June, we ordered our tradtional 10-piece (fish only). It was bland, fish was tough and tasteless. That was June. Today, wanted to try again, to no avail. Same result. I honestly dont see this location surving more than a few additional months. So sad to lose a small-town institution. My understanding is that it is a franchise location, not corporate. read more

Oh my gosh this place is so bad...as in bad for you! Fried greasy fish? Oh yes please! We stopped here one day on a whim having no idea what to expect. And truthfully not expecting a lot. It looks a little run down and so we were a little worried but hey you got to live a little right? Hubby and I were craving fried fish and chips and boy did they deliver! The food was hot and tasted pretty darn good. No it's not healthy. It's just a guilty pleasure that's ok to indulge in every once in awhile. IMHO. I asked for extra hush puppies and got like 3 litters of those guys! So many hush puppies! So good! The service was pleasant and the food came out fairly quick so all in all for a fast food restaurant it was good! Absolutely disgusting. I have tried this place twice. The first time, the fish tasted like it was cooked in rancid oil. Just the smell made my stomach turn. The second time the fish tasted okay, but the texture was gross. It was like the fish had been thawed and refrozen a couple of times. The dining room looked dirty and the decor looks like it is straight out of the mid 70's. The lady at the cash register was nice though. read more

I believe they're finally doing work on the bathrooms, but the place is still in need of a DEEP CLEANING. The windows & the door to the restrooms are still disgusting. On our last visit, the Mac n' cheese was seriously lacking the macaroni the cat fish was tiny (maybe 4 inches) & shrimp was okay. The hushpuppies were gummy. We keep going back, hoping things have improved, but it's getting worse. So sad because we love the fish. read more

This particular restaurant needs a deep clean. Always smells of burnt oil and food is always greasy. My wife and I both got sick last time we ate here. I don't know if this is a company owned restaurant or not. But I lived in alvin for over 17 years and this place hasn't changed. read more

do not order from this place it is a waste of money and time the food is horrible. the food is cold and the service sucks. do not waste your time!! The manager even admitted to me that he didn't pack some of my order and he said "I will not remake your order" and he hung up on me. I definitely advise people to stay away from this place. First time coming to a Captain D's and was a little hesitant because of the reviews, but their prices were cheap and I was hungry so why not? We were greeted by a nice young lady who even brought our food over to us. Everything was tasty, similar to long John silvers which I was happy about. The food was hot and fresh, great portion for the amount and husband and I felt satisfied. The restaurant itself seemed clean but the furniture could use an update as there were a few benches with rips, but that doesn't affect the food so I didn't want to rate that. Shameful. Your staff seems to be working hard at making you go out of business. Constant food handling violations, touching prepared food without gloves. Service is poor at best. It's sad to because you could have a great business. I can overlook a lot of things but when the staff is rude and not friendly that is a shame. read more

This place didn't really meet my expectations compared to what I had heard about it. It's really empty there and when you first walk in, you have to find your own way. No one was there to greet and seat us. The food was okay... Not the worst or the best either. When I asked for a substitution they said no. I found that odd that the answer is just no instead of, "let me check" or "we can't do that but we can do this....". Our waitress only came by one time so that's a bummer if you want a refill on your drink. I'll never go here again. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. As I was ordering my food I noticed the cook grab shrimp from the freezer with his bare hands and place in the deep fryer. He didn't have any gloves on. So he cooks everyone food without gloves! That's so nasty. Him and the cashier talked loudly about their personal life causing me and my husband to become very uncomfortable. Also, noticed they gave free fish away to their friends. I would never return he again for concerns of food safety. Cooks she never handle food with their bare hands. I went through the drive thru on my lunch hour. I waited, said hello multiple times and after a couple of minutes, pulled around to the window. I watched the lady working. She came by the window and still never acknowledged me so I honked once. She proceeded to deliver drinks to the dining room and start something else before coming to the window. I said that I I'm sorry but the speaker seems to be broken. She said no, I heard you but I was with a customer. I was then greeted immediately and professionally acknowledged at the Taco Bell drive thru next door. read more

The "Daisy Cutter" of greasy gut-bombs. I had the fish and shrimp with coleslaw and fries and a drink for just under $10. Shrimp were greasy, bland, and a little chewy. The fish was greasy and ok. The fries were greasy, tasted like fish, and had sat under the heat lamp for a while. Coleslaw was similar but not as good as KFC (not greasy though!). Oh and the hush puppies weren't too bad. Next time I think I'll keep driving unless I have a few hours to lay on the couch after the meal. read more

Like any old school Catholic, my bio antenna goes up on Friday telling me it's time to eat fish. This used to be the case with hospitals and schools during the 80's... at least in my stomping grounds. I wanted to try something different than the usual Long John Silvers', so I made the arduous trip to Captain D's, hoping to swing back to Total Wine and grab some Schlitz. Obviously, there are better places than Long John's or Captain D's, but sometimes you want decadence. No different, than the middle ager that wants a corn dog, the doctor that wants a Frito pie, or the multimillionaire rapper that wants some," Wang's and thangz". Arrived; service was mediocre reception ( indifferent teenagers) .However, the fried fish platter was pretty good and not as salty as Long Johns'. Interestingly enough, they don't offer fries( and I ad that's good). Reading their corporate prospectus, the intend on expanding more into Texas, and I hope that happens. read more

I bought a Deluxe Seafood platter and the fish was raw. I called Captain Ds and spoke to the owner I told him that my child was about to eat his food when I realized the fish was still raw. I had to throw it away. The owner offer to give me three pieces of country style fish. When I asked to pick it up today he responded no another day because we are busy. He did not apologize and was very rude. If you buy a meal from Captain Ds, my suggestion is to double check your fish to make sure its cooked all the way. I personally will not be returning.. The Staff was nice but the owner is a rude person that don't care about his customers. I feel bad for his Staff, I would hate to work for him. read more

Alvin location slipping in quality. As locals on a budget, Captain D's is an occasional stop. You know what you are getting with the chain, right? Sometimes tables are slow to be cleared. The decor is chain cheesy, but it's fun for the kids. Our last few visits were really greasy. Stuffed crab served in shell over cooked. Fish fillets flavorless under the grease soaked breaking. Shrimp disappointing on every level. My expectations were in line for guilty pleasure fast food, not very high. What happened? Quality declined. Am I imagining a price increase? The amount we spend at D's is only a couple of dollars less than a competitor a couple of blocks away. The competitor's food and service is significantly better. I left with most of my meal uneaten several months, ago. I have not returned. We are giving our dollars to the place where the fish and shrimp are edible! read more

Went for dinner here last Wednesday night. What lacked in food quality, was made up in employee kindness. I have never been so taken care of, especially in a fast food restaurant. My fish was a bit too chewy, but the chicken and fries were good. The ladies there were so nice and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and taken care of. Thank you! read more

We all have filthy, dirty, guilty pleasures right? Well mine's making time with Captain D-Nice... takin out the suckas and you don't know how he did it. I rarely eat fried fish and it's way too good here. The only reason I go, is when I go to visit my Granny. That's right, I buy my Granny Capt. D's for dinner. And she loves it like Tyrone Biggums likes crack. She loves the two piece dinner w/ fries and green beans. Sometimes she'll mix it up and go cole slaw instead, but I just get all three to avoid the inevitable "I should've gotten green beans" comments. Moi? I roll two piece all fries and a large sweet tea. Side note: Why the hell is it so hard to get sweet tea in Texas? Are we so vain that we don't trust the sweetening of our beverage to others? The meal is always still piping hot when I get to the house and everything is delish. Giving me the idea that they cook to order.
