The food is delicious, especially for the price. I love stopping by during rush hour to enjoy the fried seafood with a cold beer before heading into the city. The waitstaff is always friendly, and there's plenty of convenient parking. The hush puppies are absolutely amazing. Thank you for continuing to serve great food at affordable prices it's truly appreciated. read more

We got 4 lbs of their crawfish during the $5/lb weekend special, and it was packed with seasoning and had a great mixed flavor throughout. The gumbo was also really good, rich, flavorful, and comforting. I also ordered a half dozen of the Nacho and Parm baked oysters. The Nacho oysters were my favorite, super cheesy and flavorful to the point where I kept wanting another order. Before leaving, we ended up getting another 5 lbs of crawfish to go for the next day because the seasoning was that good. Service was friendly and attentive. The food took a little while to come out, but everything arrived hot and fresh. The restaurant also wasn't overly crowded, even though they were advertising the special online, which made the experience more relaxed. Capt Benny's - Jumbo fried shrimp plate with fries , hush puppies and Cole slaw - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Stafford, Texas

Capt. Benny's is exactly what I needed here at the end of October. A friend I meet for lunch occasionally suggested coming here and I'm glad I did. I checked out the menu in advance and decided on a Dozen Oysters to start, then the Six Fried Shrimp. Oh, boy, what a great lunch. The oysters were large, plump, cold and delicious. Fresh as fresh can be. The shrimp were another meal all to themselves. Large, corn meal batter fried shrimp with French fries, cole slaw AND hushpuppies! OMG, I haven't had hushpuppies in years. Because I have tried to avoid fried foods in recent years, Capt. Benny's was not on my go-to lunch list, but I must make an exception on the maxim of "everything in moderation, including moderation." The restaurant is charming and is loud and proud about being traditional Gulf Coast. The staff were helpful and attentive. I'll be back! read more

Captain Benny's or (the boat) is a great place to get seafood! The boat is an actual boat that used to be at sea so it has a tilt and everything. I'm not a really big fan of seafood that much and I eat select seafood items. The service is OK, at least when I come. The staff try to be nice but you just don't get that five star staff vibe. Maybe I'm just expecting a lot. The boudin balls and the key line pie are great tasting! Overall this experience is helped very much by the food, the staff contribute but not as much! 4 stars read more

Delicious food and excellent service!!! Convenient location with easy access and parking. Recommended

Service is spot on! Seafood gumbo- some of the best in the area. I have seen the restaurant grow from a make shift shrimp Boat to a full restaurant with a beautiful outdoor seating area. The only reason Captain Bennys is not getting 5 stars- pricing. Too expensive for the area. Being as close as they are to the gulf, prices should be cheaper. I will continue to visit this place as it is one of my favorites when in Houston read more

For years, I knew this place as the boat! It's a staple in our community. I love their fried whole catfish! The service is quick. However, the restrooms aren't the cleanest, but what do you expect, you're on a boat?! read more

My wife shared her cup of seafood gumbo and I was happy 'cause it was some of the best we've had. I enjoyed an eight piece shrimp basket with fries, hush puppies and garlic bread. The fried shrimp were battered with cornmeal, usually not my favorite but these were very good, the fries were average. My wife enjoyed and overshared the popcorn shrimp appetizer. Between the two of us we finished everything. The popcorn shrimp batter was not cornmeal. We ate on the outside deck. This location only has bar seating with high stools on the inside. We'll be back. Great service by Jackie A. read more

Food is pretty good but the sever on the patio has pretty much run us off with her attitude - too bad

Thought it was captain toms, but nevertheless it was pretty good, less selection of foods than other similar places, the fish was pretty alright, however wished there was more taste and seasoning. Fries 3/10 no explanation. The shrimp was thin but very good in my opinion. read more

The food is cooked awful. The food taste old. The food has no seasoning. Go to Capt Benny's on Main. Main has the best fresh cooked seasoned food. The atmosphere is is nice too. They even have Daiquiris. Go to Capt on Main in Houston. No more Stafford, they are messing up some gulf coast seafood read more

Capt Benny's - Review from 2019 ... when the food was Coke - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Stafford, Texas

I had came down for a Houston Texans game and wanted some seafood and Captain Benny's was not far from the stadium. I got the fried calamari, which was excellent excellent a fillet of catfish and oysters that were the size of my palm, they were so fresh and sweet. I could not believe how great they tasted it, but the topper to me was the coleslaw. I really really enjoyed it. I live up in North Dallas and the oysters are nowhere as big as the ones there at Captain Benny's and maybe it's because Houston is a little closer to the golf. However, I would recommend Captain Benny's. They were a little crowded, but the service was not bad specially as good as the food was and the ambience was like game day, even though the game was over. I'll be back to Captain Benny's again and again and again. It's funny I didn't take any pictures. I was so amazed at the size of the oysters. I just started eating. read more

Decided to give this place a try and I'm glad I did. Forgot to take pictures of the oyster both raw and baked. All the food was fresh and came with lots of flavor. Not one complaint about anything that was delivered to the table. Not many places can fry scallops and still be as juicy as theirs was. While the place is small for groups, please be patience while eating here. The service is as good as it gets and when I say the young lady work 10/21/2023 around 7pm, she kept a smile on her face even when handling all the tables by herself. She had back up with delivering food and drinks, but she was the one taking orders and keeping tabs on the tables. She did an amazing job and deserves huge appreciations. Of course appreciations to the kitchen and the rest of the staff at this establishment. Thank you for the wonderful experience and we will sure to be back. read more

Angela and I decided to go to Captain Benny's for lunch before she ran her errands and I did the same. I ordered the fried catfish with three extra shrimp with one stuffed shrimp with fries and Cole slaw. Everything was delicious. I had left overs so I'll take a picture of that. We were so busy talking about family that I forgot to take pictures. :-) Ten stars. read more

Capt Benny's - My delicious left overs. I forgot to take the pictures while I was there. ;-) - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Stafford, Texas

Trying Capt Tom's competition, Capt Benny's! Not bad, but pricey. Bigger selection of options than Capt Tom's If you buy a dozen, all you get is a dozen. Capt Tom's raw or fried oysters you always get way more for a cheaper price. When they are small Tom's may give you 14 to 16 oysters raw or fried! It's a nice place and I like the outside eating area. A dozen oysters was about $5 higher per dozen at Benny's and I get more than a dozen at Tom's! Winner, hands down Tom's! read more

Normally I love this place, but tonight we showed up 9 people total, ready to eat and drink but the mood quickly was ruined, the hostess or manager not sure who she was, didn't even try to accommodate us in any way, we asked if we can pull a couple of tables toguether to what she said that was not possible. I know they may have their rules or what not, but what's not cool is that she's didn't even try to accommodate us. Didn't tell us to wait, or give us a few let me see what we can do, etc. it was super awkward as if we were there begging for free food. Btw there was tables open and the largest table in the place (10 chairs) with only 3 people sitting.... Super dissatisfied. It sucks because we normally love it here and frequently come. If I was the owner of the place I'd be pissed to let a good tab go across the street for lack of customer service. Don't recommend it her for a large party read more

What I don't like about them is, I can't get Redfish and Shrimp as a combo. Have to order separately.

Food was not great. Crab claw appetizers were very small and very little meat (mostly breading). The food did not seem fresh it reminded me of bar food. Very over priced for the quality of food served. I would not recommend this place to my friends. read more

The men at the bar take good care of the bar area. I had a bowl of gumbo and a plate of Fish sticks that were absolutely delicious it was a featured plate of cod fish sticks they were great . I used to work around the corner and ate here quite often. So, when my wife told me she was about to drive by, and asked me if I wanted dinner, I said sure. Well, my how the mighty has fallen. By far, they had the worst gumbo I have had in years. In fact, I could not eat the entire bowl. I simply gave up. Everything was overcooked. The shrimp had the consistency of clumped rice. The vegetables, that could be identified, were mushy. Just awful. Their fried seafood (a staple for me) was overcooked. The sauces extremely bland. I can say, without any hesitation, I will never return. read more

We order Cod fish baskets and seafood gumbo. Both are fresh and delicious. Will definitely come back to try their other items in the menu.

Food was great ! Service was quick and calming, the vibes were great, food was fresh and hot, I recommend the bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp, calamari was smacking ! And their shrimp po-boy was the largest item I had ! Fulfilling ! read more

After a night out yes this place would be the place to go to the next day. Always cold as ice beer here.

Been coming here for years... literally my favorite place for a quick delicious bite and few beers. Service is always great inside at the bar. Food comes out with in reasonably time. My favorite part about them is that I have the choice of either fried or oven baked... vs other spots just served fried. But overall my top favorite spots. read more

I ordered a fried combo plate and not very impressed being a that it was my first time. The seasoning was bland, the seafood tasted over cooked (dry and rubbery) and the fish filets were pretty much nonexistent. The filets were entirely too thin. All you can taste was grease and cornmeal, no fish. Definitely not going back. It's as if they're a knockoff of Captain Toms which has both fresh, thick, and well seasoned filets. Capt Benny needs to step up their game. read more

Good service. Fresh seafood. They just need a fly zapper if you are sitting on their patio.

Friendly staff had great service while I was here. The food was great and great variety. There's plenty of seating inside if not they e got a covered patio. Parking can get tricky during rush hour or peak times, spaces are limited. Overall a great place to grab lunch or dinner, it can get noisy at peak times. Great seafood mainly fried lol oysters were delicious! read more

Tasteless, fly infested place. Unable to sort of enjoy food. I ordered the shrimp salad. Worst I ever ate. The shrimp salad itself was over saturated with I think mayonnaise then the provided a packet of mayonnaise base salad dressing. Whew too much mayonnaise. Not enjoyable at all! Service and what ambiance oh that was ok. read more

Eating food from here as I wrote this review: Fried Catfish, fried shrimp, French fries. Catfish: is bland, no seasoning or spices, taste like water. Crispy, but not very fresh, seems like it's been sitting in a warmer for a couple of hours. Fried Shrimp: Paper thin, room temperature (not warm), is not very fresh, also seems like it's been sitting in a warmer instead of cooked to order. Small and flat shrimp. Bland, no seasoning or spices. French fries: Hard and not fresh. Obviously been sitting in a warmer for hours. This place also charges a 5% pickup order fee for some odd reason (tip not included)... I would recommend going to Pier 61 Seafood across the street for seafood. Capt. Benny's was a big disappointment :( read more

The lady that works the cash register was very patient, considering this was my first time eating here. I was starving so I ordered the gumbo because it was ready ASAP! They have chicken and sausage and seafood gumbo. I ordered a fish basket to go, omg looks amazing! Okay update; It was really fresh, but did not have any flavor. Now if you like food with no seasoning, you would love the jumbo basket. Again, the food was really fresh. If you have time on a lunch break, this maybe a great spot. But if your going out to eat, I wouldn't recommend this spot for what I ordered. read more

I love Captain Benny's! I've been going for years and they are consistently good. I have never been disappointed with food or service. I almost always order the same thing - a dozen oysters, cup of gumbo, and the Captain's Platter. I believe it consisted of the following fried items: shrimp, crawfish, scallops, catfish, stuffed crab, hushpuppies, french fries, and garlic bread... come on... that's ridiculous! Everything is delicious and they show great hospitality here. The oysters are addicting and I've never had a bad one. The gumbo is... gumbo, nothing to brag about but I get one every time because it's comforting and affordable. I also like that they switch up their specials every so often. If there's one that sounds really good like fried flounder, or something snazzy, I try it out and it's always good. Just try the place out. The worst that happens is you leave completely full, with a full wallet... wait... that's not bad at all. If you don't like it, you can leave your left overs at my house. read more

With oyster season in full swing, oyster loves have gotta come to Captain Benny's! oysters on the half shell at $5.95 per dozen is one of the best deals in town!! this special price is NOT only for the happy hours; it remains unchanged during ALL HOURS 7 days a week! Yaye! The oysters in good size are fresh, and of course, tasty! Other seafood items are delicious as well, and prices are fair! Broiled platter comes with a big piece of well seasoned, broiled fish fillet, shrimp skewer and scallop skewer over seasoned rice with coleslaw and garlic toast on the side, and the whole thing costs only $16.99! The seafood tastes good and fresh, and I would recommend this platter to those who do not want fried foods. As a fried-food lover, I've got myself a Mate's Plate with fried catfish and soft shell crab, along side French fries, coleslaw, hush puppies and garlic toast! It is a lot of food for just $12.99, nice isn't it?! Service is slow due to short staff; this place is busy and packed! The "boat" is small with limited seating inside, but patio seating is available. Our server, a.k.a. the oyster shucker, is a cool guy! :) I like this place and will come back. read more

Husband wanted to eat here because it was packed and in the shape of a boat. The sign said seafood fresh off the boat. When? 2 months ago? Nothing I had was fresh. I got a platter with stuffed crab and shrimp. All I could taste was bread crumbs and it had no crab. The shrimp weren't fresh. Husband's crawfish Pirogue was good though. Had crawfish, cheese, and other stuff. Pretty good, but wouldn't go back for just that. read more
