Because the food was so damn good. Look - I'm going to start off by saying I grew up practically on The Hill. Out here, you'll have to Google it (make sure to add 'RI' to the search or you'll get some political BS), but back east, "alls you's have ta say" was those two words and anyone would know you knew your Italian, food and otherwise. There isn't anything on this coast that vaguely compares to The Hill's food, but walking into and biting out of Geraldi's was having a little piece of home. There's this little shop in the old town where the owner knew your voice when you called to order... you'd walk in, and you heard "hey cousin!" whether you were or not, and that's the vibe you get from Geraldi's. The food is much the same - you get something that looks like Nonna was at the range all day with her sauce (it's not gravy - no meat) and you came home looking like you haven't eaten in weeks: "I'm gonna fatten you up before you leave" and you walked out the door with a sub (sandwich, that is - not a submarine) that weighed the same as a newborn. We got three of those babies: a Chicago Beef (seal of approval from the orderer - only 'complaint' was that they had to eat it all in one day because the bread was quote too soggy to make it to lunch the next day - travesty), an Italian sausage (just as delicious when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and a Chicken Parmeroni (I thought somehow even better when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and I could have absolutely gone back the next day if it weren't for A. the leftovers 2/3 of us had and B. the meal planning we'd done for the week. I also grabbed a side of giardiniera because I will get it anytime I see it available and I inhaled it - I need to know if I can by it by the vat instead of the side cups because it too was similar to what I can find at home (about practically nowhere out here) and amazing!! I'm still upset I didn't take pictures though!

We ordered 1/2 Chicago beef and 1/2 chicken parm. The bread is the winner! So crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Beef was a little dry for being in the au jus but still good, big chucks of chicken breast with flavorful sauce was also good. Will be back to try one of the cold sandwiches next.

There were just two people ordering at the kiosk, so it was a short wait to order, with about 10 minutes to get the sandwich. The Dutch crunch roll, wow, wow, just amazing texture and full of flavor, the pastrami was solid but not mind blowing, but the combination (cheese, pickles and deli mustard) made this an easy 9.5/10. They flipped the sign by about 1:30pm and said they were sold out. I'll be back to try some other sandwiches, and I'll be sure to arrive early enough.

The interior has a few tables but seating is limited if you plan on eating in. The menu board is basic and to the point. You can create your own sandwich or select from the various options. A key fact, they only serve one size sandwich a 12 inch. I ordered the chicken with pepperjack cheese, hot peppers (they are hot), black olives, pickles and mayo (I will share that you might ask for a smaller spread of mayo if you are not a huge mayo fan), my son ordered the Supreme with steak, mayo, unions, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, mushrooms and steak sauce on a soft white roll. The bread was amazingly soft and holds up well with all of the toppings. The sandwich taste was amazing, it took about 8 min or so to get our order but well worth the wait, they sandwiches were packed with toppings, nice and hot proteins, we also ordered fries with cheese dip, the french fry order was much larger than expected glad that we shared them, the cheese dip is also very tasty. Second time, I ordered online and requested Anjou sauce but they didn't have any and called me for another substitute. Which I thought was nice, because the first time I asked I assumed they just didn't put it on the side. 3rd, I ate there In person, right when they opened up. A girl helped me, she was really nice. After ordering our food we went over to fill our cups for drinks. I typically only drink Ice Tea but the dispenser was empty. One of the very friendly employees a young lady, sorry I did not get her name came over and immediately started to brew a fresh batch. I was so happy to see an employee take immediate action without prompting. She is a keeper. The food , I love the Italian with spicy peppers with all the fixings, it did not disappoint. It's one of the better Italian sandwiches out there. I liked the fact that Potbelly has very consistent sandwich prep. I appreciate the friendly staff and clean building. I look forward to my next trip and by the way the Ice Tea was perfect!
