Capital Awning has been everything you wish for when making an investment in your home. I "flipped" the exterior of the home I bought in 2016 and had a nice sized patio added. Despite my shady backyard, Richmond is still often too hot to handle in the summer. I spoke to my contractor about adding a screen room, and my patio was too large to do that without partial blocking of two windows. Then I mentioned I had been looking into awnings. He thought that was a great idea so did some more research. The number one caution was who installs it. You can get a "lower price" awning (mine is huge, btw) but it gets shipped to you and you end up get part time installers. When I found Capital Awning, and they were local, and everybody I would work with worked directly for Capital Awning was an employee I asked them to come out for a quote. Again, I did my research but was surprised that their quote was less than I expected, and I told the sales guy I hated to be sold and he said he did, too! I picked out a super cool fabric and placed my order. When it was done two guys came out, nice, professional, and personable. They installed it and asked me a few questions along the way, and were done. They gave me the remote and handed me a folder with information. One page said trouble shooting. The installer said "throw that page away-if you have ANY problem you just call us and we are here to fix it!" I spend every day using the "awning" room, and my dogs lie on the cool cement patio in the shade. I added some outdoor fans I love and use the thermacell mosquito pods so always a breeze and no bugs! I am home with long COVID, and being able to be out, even on the hottest days, and be comfortable in the fresh air makes this an AWESOME investment!!!!!!!

Despite repeated attempts to address warranted concerns, I believe I have been unfairly labeled by the company, resulting in dismissive responses to legitimate complaints. I paid too much for the door to have used/old parts. Initially, I sought a second opinion from A1 Doors during a routine annual inspection, as I was dissatisfied with Apple Doors's service. A1 Doors identified several critical issues, including: Undersized Springs: They determined the springs were inadequate for the door's weight, leading to improper adjustment. Used and Damaged Components: They noted evidence of used and damaged parts, specifically pointing out inconsistencies in panel yellowing and compromised spring functionality. Following A1 Doors' assessment, I contacted Apple Door. An Apple technician refuted A1 Doors' findings, asserting that all installed components were appropriate for the door. Further attempts to verify component specifications directly with the manufacturer were hindered by Apple Door providing an incorrect contact number. Subsequent Apple Door inspections continued to dismiss my concerns, with technicians attributing issues to routine adjustments and emphasizing the expired warranty. I was met with resistance when I mentioned the used parts, and they stated it was my word against theirs. However, I documented the condition of the components with photographs and video. Upon a second inspection by A1 Doors, they meticulously recorded evidence of pre-existing damage, including a bent and cracked pole, which directly correlated with the ongoing performance issues. Had this component failed completely, it could have resulted in a serious accident. This experience highlights a pattern of dismissive customer service and the installation of substandard, used parts. I strongly advise potential customers to exercise caution when considering Apple Door. Thoroughly document all aspects of the installation process, and consider obtaining second opinions from reputable independent contractors. My pictures would not upload because they are too large, but I will be posting this same review on Google with photos if possible.

I found Awnings by Clark and looked through the website and liked what I saw and read and reached out to them. They returned my call a few days later (I called on a weekend) I set up a consultation at home and the sales agent showed up on time and was very professional and answered all of my questions with a satisfactory answer and explanations. He showed me awnings color samples and we selected the frame color and awning color and went from there. He explained that it takes about 8-10 weeks to make it and that they would call to set up the installation date around that time. Well temper actually ended up being quicker than the 8-10 weeks called to set a date for install. The woman setting my appointment explained it would take 3-4 hours to install and that if the day of installation turned out to be a bad weather day they would need to move it. That is completely understandable. My install day came and they ended up showing up earlier than my scheduled appointment and called to ask if it would be okay which I said it was but I needed an hour to get home from work and asked if they could grab lunch and kill some time, they said they could and they will see me soon. The installation crew showed up and were professional and courteous and explained the process of hanging the awning from the house and as they got it set up they would let know so they could ask for my input. Once they were completely finished they showed me how to use the Manuel crank to bring the awning in and out should the power fail, they showed me the open and close remote control and how to change the batteries on the wind sensor should the batteries die and how the awning will act if the batteries are dead. From start to finish the process was stress free and handled professionally and quickly. The awning we had installed was a motorized retractable awning with remote and opens to cover a 14' X 18'6" area. We paid for the optional wind sensor that detects winds that get up to 20 MPH and will retract itself so the wind won't damage it. The price tag at first seemed steep but after seeing it, using the remote and seeing the amount of sun it blocks I am extremely pleased with it and believe it is worth every penny.
