Capitol Awning installed a gorgeous Sunbrella awning onto the front of our house just two weeks before the recent freak ice storm in Richmond. There was a huge and very heavy boulder of unmovable ice lodged on top of this for weeks. We needed to wait for it to melt. The frame, mounting and fabric all survived this ordeal unscathed. The quality is extremely high. And I highly recommend them and will absolutely return. I will mention however, these people are not great communicators. Calls went unanswered, the installers just showed up without an appointment. This can be sharpened up. But otherwise, I thank you folks very much for an excellent product made locally at a fair price! read more

The service from Capital Awning was quite remarkable and they came to your house with the catalogs in hand to try to help you match up the newest selections for awning material with your current existing house. They were very professional and polite and offered a lot of good information regarding replacing what I already had that had lasted since 1997. I also really enjoyed was that there is a huge selection of materials and that they are long lasting. I actually selected new clips to tie down the ropes with and they were able to put them up and they look spectacular as well as instead of white ropes. They put black ropes which looks really stunning up against the house. All in all whatever it is, you need they can really customize it and make it look phenomenal right now. It looks too good for the house, and it feels like there should be some bistro beneath the awnings. I would highly recommend them. It's not inexpensive, but it's worth it. read more

Capital Awning has been everything you wish for when making an investment in your home. I "flipped" the exterior of the home I bought in 2016 and had a nice sized patio added. Despite my shady backyard, Richmond is still often too hot to handle in the summer. I spoke to my contractor about adding a screen room, and my patio was too large to do that without partial blocking of two windows. Then I mentioned I had been looking into awnings. He thought that was a great idea so did some more research. The number one caution was who installs it. You can get a "lower price" awning (mine is huge, btw) but it gets shipped to you and you end up get part time installers. When I found Capital Awning, and they were local, and everybody I would work with worked directly for Capital Awning was an employee I asked them to come out for a quote. Again, I did my research but was surprised that their quote was less than I expected, and I told the sales guy I hated to be sold and he said he did, too! I picked out a super cool fabric and placed my order. When it was done two guys came out, nice, professional, and personable. They installed it and asked me a few questions along the way, and were done. They gave me the remote and handed me a folder with information. One page said trouble shooting. The installer said "throw that page away-if you have ANY problem you just call us and we are here to fix it!" I spend every day using the "awning" room, and my dogs lie on the cool cement patio in the shade. I added some outdoor fans I love and use the thermacell mosquito pods so always a breeze and no bugs! I am home with long COVID, and being able to be out, even on the hottest days, and be comfortable in the fresh air makes this an AWESOME investment!!!!!!! read more

We had a $5,500 motorized awning installed by Capitol Awning 2 weeks ago. The remote feature that allows control of the awning from a cellphone won't install despite hours of following the directions explicitly (I have a college level faculty appointment in computer engineering). I contacted the company that makes the remote (Somfy) and they will not talk to a customer, saying any problem with their device's function must be dealt with by the installer -- in this case Capital Awning. I have left messages daily for 2 weeks straight (no one ever answers their phone), only got one call back 2 days ago from Alexis, and she said she'd have their installer (Jake) call me. I said that, after this repeated unresponsiveness, I am withholding paying the 2nd 1/2 of the bill until this gets resolved. Neither he nor Alexis have called me back. I left another message today (2 days later). Still no callback and no one answers their phone. read more

Strange experience. Called made an appointment. Bill showed up on time on 4/1/2021 as promised. Prior to the first appointment he seemed very enthusiastic. He came by and took measurements and pictures. He said he would get back with me. I waited a week, no response. Called and left a message and also sent an email that was on his bus card. Still no response. As of today 4/16 no response. I guess he was not interested. I am guessing here, maybe he thought i could not afford it (or some other reason which could be my imagination). I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. Poor service and response. Sad read more
