In Austin for SXSW and had an awful experience with one of their riders, to the point that I'll never use this service again. I'd been using Uber for most of my trip to get from one session to the next, and have had nothing but positive experiences. In this case, I needed to get from the Hyatt Regency to the Long Center, an 8 minute walk according to Google Maps. I was in a rush to make my next session, checked Uber and the fare estimate was $3. I saw a Pedicab rider nearby and figured I'd give them a go, instead of waiting for a car, since the venue was so close and I hadn't used them before. When I jumped in the Pedicab, there were signs that clearly state that the riders work for tips only. The rider did not say hello, mention anything about rates (since the 'tips only' signs are clearly marked), was not friendly and started blasting obnoxiously loud music while I was trying to make a quick call to a colleague. When we arrived - less than 5 minutes later, most of which was spent waiting on a traffic light - I gave the rider $5 (more than Uber estimated, and what I thought was fair) and said thank you. He proceeded to tell me how, "I normally charge $10 for that ride" in which, confused, I pointed to the sign that clearly states the rider works for tips only. He said, "Yeah, but I charge $10." Obviously this is a violation of Pedicab policy, or he would have given me the rate BEFORE I got in, and not AFTER we'd already arrived. Still confused, I told him that I could have used Uber for $3, to which he rudely and loudly responded in front of other convention goers, "Yeah, well I'm not Uber, I charge $10!"...again, despite the clearly marked 'tips only' policy. He was absolutely right. He was not Uber. He was slower. Ruder. Did not have AC. And, unlike Uber - where their drivers actually care about the perception and reputation of the company that they're representing - he was unprofessional and dishonest...so it makes perfect sense that he should charge over 3x what a car service charges. How silly of me to think otherwise. He then went on to use profanity and insult the $5 I gave him...until he saw me using my phone to take a photo of him and the number to call for complaints, to which he quickly rode away like a coward who did not want to be held accountable for literally demanding money from riders and clearly violating Pedicab policies. He was riding cart #30, at roughly 4:30 pm on March 14, 2015. If the Pedicab company cares about the way their riders treat customers while representing them, they can contact me and I can furnish a photograph of this class act and model employee who should immediately be fired / not permitted to represent the company. I will say, however, that other Pedicab riders that I have encountered in Austin have been VERY friendly and polite, which is why I decided to use them in this instance. But this experience left me with a massively negative impression. I understand that the riders who cart people around are physically exerting themselves; but to claim that that service is worth 3x more than sitting in a comfortable and air conditioned car? And yelling at customers, demanding more money? Please. read more

WOW WOW WOW AWESOME TIME!! We just had Ruben drive AND Peddle his hiney off all around 6th street and all around the downtown nightlife! Ruben gave us a personal private tour and even took us down the street so we could view the lit up state Capital! We can NOT SAY ENOUGH GREAT THINGS ABOUT how awesome RUBEN's tour/cruise was!! Did you know all Capital Pedicab drivers are fully licensed by the City of Austin Ground Transportation Department and work on tips from the customers? So, you parked seven blocks away to get down to Red River for that big show, and it was no problem walking down there. Now, after the show is a different matter, and somehow those heeled boots aren't so comfortable anymore, especially going up hill. Forget the horse carriages - THIS is true style. This is the ultimate luxury: being pedaled around by a human. Oh, and not just you. You, your boyfriend, and even up to two other people. Simply impressive - these cyclists have legs of iron. You can tip them whatever you'd like, a couple of bucks to go several blocks if you want. Seriously, though, I like to tip them at least ten dollars - my general rule of thumb, the more of you riding, the more you should tip. If you can't tip them generously, then walk your lazy-ass self to the car. read more

What can I say about Austin's trademark Pedicabs? That my roommate is one (which makes me admittedly biased)? That they are the most convenient thing on the planet, and vastly cheaper than cabs? That the friendly Pedicabbers are a great resource for what the best night spot is, and often know where the best hidden secrets are, be they parking spots, great shows, or drink specials? Yeah, I could say all that. But that would be stating the ridiculously (to an Austinite) obvious. Instead, I will say this. They. Are. Hot. Yes, hot. Scrumptiously thin and well muscled, with a light sheen of sweat, looking suitably tasty perched on their seats, ready for someone to ravish them. So remember this. Pedicabbers are hot. They work for tips. Hot people who work their literal tails off to get you where you want to go deserve to be tipped well. So tip them, and tip largely and well. Your cosmic kharma will appreciate it, anyway, you cheapskate. And a note to Alexandra L. - Pedicabs are limited to three passengers by law. I know this because of the ticket my roommate Pedicabber received last Saturday for carrying four. read more

I have to give props to the dudes that pedal people around Austin. You see things you normally wouldn't see if you were in a cab. The "fresh" air is nice too. My beef, and it probably shouldn't be an issue, is that I'm cheap... We took a rickshaw from 4h Street to 6th Street, and the dude told us it's usually $5 per person (they don't have rates you only tip). So 3 people = $15 on that ride. None of our cab rides cost that much and we went WAY further. I know the dudes are doing manual labor so I'm probably being a bitter old lady right now. At any rate, I still think it's a fun way to get around Austin. read more

This has been a lifesaver since I injured my back right before coming to Austin. Bikers are friendly and it is great for when a walk home in the dark looks a little sketchy. My cyclist even installed a speaker system in his cab so I got to listen to some tunes on the way. read more

I have an injured leg that has been surgically repaired for a quad tendon rupture. Leaving the UT game it was extremely difficult to walk. Three pedicabs refused to take me when they learned I just needed to go three blocks. Even when I explained I could not walk. I finally made it back with several stops. After a magnificent Yelp Elite event, me and the husband went for some Sushi at a place he said was "oh about 2 blocks" from where we were. Rule of thumb: NEVER trust a Texan who says "about 2 blocks." They MEAN to lie when they say it. It's their way of emphasizing that everything is bigger in Texas. Apparently two blocks = 10.5 in Texanspeak. I should mention that I was wearing very sexy new Espadrilles. the kind of shoes that you don't wear whilst going for a hike, shopping marathons, or dancing. NOT unless you have thoroughly broken them in and your feet are quite used to them. SO by the time we arrived at dinner, my DOGS were aching! After Dinner, I made it halfway back to the car when my feet were actually blistered and since the feeling of leather rubbing on skin that has freshly been opened was a BIT TOO MUCH (for my husband to handle, due to all the complaining by self proclaimed baby) it was decided that I should sit on the bench and wait for him to retrieve the car. About three minutes after he left, a guy on a bike taxi pulls up in front of the bench shouting, "Your chariot awaits m'lady!" and there inside is my husband smiling that "I am so damn clever I can hardly stand it" smile. The chariot driver, er, pedaler, helps me into the taxi and then in a matter of minutes we are at the car! HOT DAMN! Give that man a big tip:) Tis true! These guys work for tips (or $50 an hour) and they are fanfreekintaastic! Best 10 blocks I never had to walk. And yes, very clever indeed. read more

Doesn't even deserve one star. I know most Pedicabs are probably not like this, but I've observed them on sixth street and a lot of them seem to take advantage of not having a manager to watch over them. I've seen them engage is conduct which is not even suitable for the people walking around drunk. One guy screamed at me and followed me down the block because I walked in front of his cab when the pedestrian light was on (I didn't see him, either) Apparently this caused him to spill his drink. He was threatening us and saying all these things. Then, when I contacted the owner of the company, he pretty much just blew me off. read more

Awful. If I could give zero stars I would. My experience with these pedicabs is that some can be horribly rude, screaming even, to people who inadvertently step in their path. Even when people are walking in appropriate pedestrian areas...it's not like they were running into the street without looking at traffic. read more

Hired them for my wedding getaway. Our guy was great. We felt perfectly safe. The cab was clean and they put a cover on the top of the cab because it was lightly misting. Very smooth ride, really fun to be out in the fresh Austin city air. He was professional and offered to help me out of his cab when we arrived at the hotel. I think we will take a pedicab next time we are downtown just for fun. read more

They did our wedding getaway......it wasn't a long trip, but it was worth it. They booked at the last minute, were professional, taped our sign to the cab, and the guy even wore a pink and white striped shirt that happened to match. Nice. read more

In the spirit of keeping Austin weird, we decided to use Capital Pedicab as our "getaway car" at our wedding reception, and it was perfect. The driver arrived with plenty of time to spare before our scheduled getaway for the pedicab to be decorated, and he was extremely positive and happy during our short ride to the honeymoon suite. It was a great and unique way to end an awesome day, and it made for some great pictures. We highly recommend them for any occasion! read more

Absolutely fantastic company, service and staff. Used a group of drivers (peddlers) for my corporate needs during SXSW and could not have asked for better service and professionalism.
