This trail connects to a few parks and it's easy to find parking near one of the parks. We walk the trail all year long and it's well maintained. Sometimes you'll get some leaves or fallen branches, but otherwise it's great for walking, running, or biking. Be careful during the summer if you have pets, the pavement can get hot. When it is going to be an over 80 degree day we try to only take our dog our in the early morning or once it starts cooling off in the evening.

It's Earth Day! What are you going to do to help our planet and its creatures?…read more We joined City of Sacramento at Parkway Oaks park for their clean up and beautification event. There were a good amount of volunteers who knew what they were doing and got right to work planting shrubbery around the park. My son and I picked up trash but were pleased that there was not a lot at this alert-clean and beautiful park! (We did find evidence that local neighbors had done an Easter egg hunt and didn't successfully find them all ) Decent amount of street parking around the park. Large shaded space for recreation and a large playground for the kiddos when it's not wet outside. No bathroom, which is common, we've noticed, for local community parks in this neighborhood. A quick drive to Starbucks or Bel Air if you need a quick break.

It's right next to the former Lisbon Elementary School, now a charter school named Yav Pem Suab Academy, a bilingual Hmong and English school. In any case, this park has a lot of wonderful mature shade trees, providing lots of needed shade on hot summer days in Sacramento, and a decently nice playground. My kids enjoyed this park when they were little, and now when we drive past, we see little ones play on the structure. There's also a nice walking path that winds throughout the park and a few sitting benches for just relaxing and bird-and-people-watching, or perhaps if you wanted to just sit quietly in your own thoughts or read a book there's plenty of seating to do that. There's plentiful grass for an informal soccer game or a volleyball game if those are to your liking. In any case, this park is usually not so busy and although there's not any bathroom facilities here from what I recall, it's close to Bel-Air and the shopping plaza (about 5 minutes drive) there so it's definitely a good park to play at or relax in. The quiet and safe neighborhood it's in also makes this park one of the better ones in the Pocket area.

There is a farm-themed structure, an older area, and a newer area. Some of the playground equipment were things not usually seen or that I've never seen, such as a contraption to dig in the small sand area. I also noted that the newer area was built with inclusivity in mind. Some really nice aspects are that there's a large covered cemented area, some picnic tables & benches, and lots of grass. There's a neat manually-powered carousel with suspended animals to ride on that was operating for a fundraiser. There are also musical activities. We were able to spend a lot of time here enjoying being outdoors while little one played on everything.

One of his better gags was offered when a customer would catch a fish and ask, "are these good eating?" "Oh, man!" Roy would offer excitedly. "Do you like eating like awesome fried chicken?!?" "Yeah!" was the usual reply. "Well, they don't taste ANYTHING like chicken," Roy would say dryly. Crocker Park is a similar punchline. Do you like pristine parks with manicured lawns, attractive surroundings, benevolent visitors who leave the place better than they found it, and a peaceful, quiet environment? Yeah, well, Crocker Park ain't that. A roughly rectangular plot of spotty grass and city trees peppered liberally with trash cans and surrounded by parking lots, transients, and the cacophony of traffic on the nearby 5 freeway. Green places are important in the city, and relative to the endless concrete, steel, and plastic of Capitol Mall, this little stretch of chlorophyllic life forms attached to Crocker museum are a welcome respite. Interestingly, a ten minute drive in several directions will get you to a much more convincing version of nature... or at least a nicer park.
