A great view of Cape May that includes food along the ride and a guarantee you will see dolphins. From a Living Social Deal, I purchased the: '6:30 PM 2 Hour Dolphin Watch and Sunset Cruise with Complimentary Pizza and Hot Dogs Included'. Regularly, this is priced at $30 for adults and is still, fairly priced. I'm glad I skipped the family style dinner for $49.95 because the food didn't look as if it was worth the price. Here is my suggestion on what to wear at the 6:30 showing in mid-June: jeans, long-sleeved shirt and bring a sweatshirt. If you are outside, forgetting a sweatshirt means you will be hands-down guaranteed shivering in the corner of the boat after sundown. Do not be THAT person, bring your sweatshirt just in case! I sat upstairs where there are 10 layout long lawn chairs (no roof), cushioned bench chairs or hard uncomfortable seats (under a roof). The hard uncomfy seats on the back with no roof probably have the best view; bring a mat/towel for your tush. There are bathrooms on the ship, but keep in mind that they are small. On a side note, they were very clean and stocked with paper products! The ship employees were friendly but the front desk manager had a negative attitude. The tour is slow and provides a beautiful ocean view of Cape May. The tour guide gives limited basic historical facts on what you see. There is plenty of time to see dolphins and mark my words, you will definitely see them swimming along the way. I had a digital camera and still was able to catch a few photos. The ride back had a lovely sunset but it was pretty chilly so don't forget to check the temperature when you go. read more

Nice trip on a Sunday afternoon. Entertaining and informative dialog. Boat was clean and comfortable. We saw lots of dolphins, adults and youngsters. Had to see at least 50. Quite amazing, the captain placed us right in the middle of the pods. They were all around us, bow, stern, port, and starboard. Really quite amazing. Didn't see any whales, but they weren't around today. Saw tons of bunker but I guess the whales weren't interested in feeding at this buffet. With no whales the trip seemed a little boring for the young kids on the boat, but they were screaming happy to see all the dolphins in the beginning of the trip. I would go again. They have food, ice cream novelties and beverages (beer, soda, mixed drinks) on board. Tried the pizza and soda. It was ok, nothing special, but a lot of people were taking advantage of the on board cuisine and seemed to enjoy it.. The reason for 2 stars is because of the lack of COVID regulations enforced on the boat. NO ONE was wearing a mask and the crew didn't enforce it. Second time cruising with Cape May Whale Watcher, and it definitely won't be the last time. They've got a customer for life with us! The first time out was back in August, on the 2.5 hour dolphin watching tour. We saw quite a few dolphins, and then headed out to the Atlantic to look for whales. Unfortunately we didn't see any that day. Second time out was mid-October for the 3 hour dolphin/whale watching tour, and we hit the jackpot. Saw probably at least 50 dolphins (maybe more) and 5 different Humpback Whales! The activity was so great that the crew kept us out on the ocean for an extra 30-40 minutes to keep watching the whales. The boat is large and has plenty of room for everyone to see the animals, plus the crew is really good about maneuvering around so everyone can see, as well. On both trips there was no pushing or shoving by people to try to get to the front of the viewing area, so it makes it a good ride. There are heated cabins on both the lower and upper deck of the boat, with seating and tables for you to relax if you get tired or cold. They also have an on board snack bar with hot dogs, pizza, chips, etc. They serve sodas and coffee, and even have beer on tap. Overall a great time, and well worth the trip! I would absolutely recommend Cape May Whale Watcher, it's a great activity for all ages! You are "guaranteed" a sighting, so if you don't see anything on your trip, you are given free passes to come back again. Their boat is large and well-appointed...there's an enclosed area with windows, a semi-enclosed (covered) area, and open areas, and plenty of seating on both levels of the boat. Food and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are offered for sale. Also, there are several restrooms on board. The captain is very friendly and very knowledgeable about marine life. The tours take a good amount of time, and you get to see several points of interest around Cape May which are explained in detail, so it's worth the money even without any sightings. We've been several times and will continue to come back. It's a fun activity to do in the summer to escape the heat, take a nice boat ride, and appreciate dolphins and whales. Happened upon a brochure for this tour and am so glad that I did. There are quite a few options in the area but we may have found the best on a first try. EVERY one that we encountered: my first phone call to acquire info, the parking lot attendant, deck hands etc. were so extremely friendly and welcoming. Mondays and Fridays offer a buy one adult, get one half off special. We spent about $50 (toddlers free) for our family of 4 to cruise for 2 hours, enjoy complimentary pizza and hot dog dinner, enjoy sights and learn local info. We had just a few dolphin sightings. The captain deemed that an inadequate amount to qualify for a true dolphin/whale watching trip. Holding true to their guarantee, they granted every passenger on the boat a FREE return ticket. This is valued indefinitely. We found it very admirable that they withhold this policy. We look forward to coming back again! In the meantime, we'll be sure to share our great experience with others. The boat was too crowded and it the people were fighting to be able to get spot on the edge to see the dolphins. There weren't enough seats to seat everyone. It was simply overstuffed to the point that there is hardly any standing space left. Very few people were wearing masks and none of the employees seemed to care about wearing masks either. The whole experience made me quite uncomfortable. We did see dolphins and I enjoyed that. But the boar experience can use some improvement. read more

We always enjoy our trips on CMWW. It's never a sure thing to spot whales off the NJ coast in the summer months, but we managed a distant peek at a fin whale last year. Still, you always see dolphins, bald eagles, ospreys, and all sorts of interesting and attractive landmarks. Plus, you can bring food and drinks along, if memory serves. Great experience with a bunch of family members in August. The boat had plenty of seating and the crew were all professional and helpful. We saw many dolphins swimming and jumping around in the water. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend everyone try it at least once! The only major issue customers need to be aware of is the parking situation. It's basically just a dirt/sand road and lot where they pack everyone in like sardines. When it's time to leave you are boxed in completely. You sit in your car with your fingers crossed the people in front of or behind you are not taking extra pictures in front of the boat because if they are- you're screwed. It did take awhile for everyone to get out of there but there were several employees really working hard to expedite the situation. Although you would sacrifice getting the perfect seat, if you come a bit late at least you'd be able to leave quickly. On the other hand, while you would be waiting longer to board, if you came early you could also leave much more easily. read more

Year after year we have been coming here and it never disappoints! We do the 5:30 pm trip and get to see the lighthouse, sunset and tons of dolphins. Our family of 4, with two teenagers, went on the 6:30 dinner cruise. The food was ok, green beans, mashed potatoes, chicken and roast beef. Salad and bread. If we had realized that they offered pizza for free on the cruise we probably wouldn't have gotten the dinner. That being said, the crew was fantastic. We did the Dolphin Sunset cruise on Thursday Eve, 9/15/22. A great view up on the top deck, ordered some pizza and a Cape May brewery beer on the way out of the Cape May Canal, then we immediately we're onto the Dolphins soon as we exited the Inlet. We had them all around us, for 1 mile out...they were rolling, tail-splashing, jumping. It's hard to believe how many pods we saw. Then, we sailed West to the Point to catch a great sunset. My only complaint was, I wish the boat sailed all the way around the Cape May point, towards the sunset and returned back to the Canal on the bay side. Instead of that, the Capt flipped it around and heading back the same way we came in, along the Ocean side, during the prime sunset, forcing us to take pics facing towards to the Stern of the boat. I was told it was because of the Tide...not sure what to believe, but we saw other Cape May Whale watch boats coming in from the Bay side (where Ferry Boats enter/depart), the evening before. Had we done that, we would have had the most unbelievable Sunset pics. Overall, a very nice trip with a nice crew and party. read more

I really wanted to give Whale Watcher a great review but I am so disturbed by how I was treated by the woman on the phone that I can't get past it. She was rude when I called to inquire about the trip options then again when I called to actually book (apparently I was bothering her by asking a few simple questions). Maybe she's family or something and that's why the owners allow her behavior? Unsure, I just know she was a very bad look for the company in general. UPDATE: Received a message from Captain Jeff (Owner maybe?) and he was as rude as the woman on the phone. I've been reading reviews since writing this one and it seems that these are new owners (Husband and wife) and many loyal customers have stopped patronizing Cape May Whale Watcher because of their horrible customer service. So unfortunate. If they don't need by money or business, they probably don't need yours either. Went with a competitor instead and I'm so happy we did!!!! Capt. We went out Monday, August 17th on the 1 PM Dolphin and Whale Watching 3 hour trip. The trip was enjoyable. We saw lots of dolphins and the narration was helpful and full of good dolphin facts. No whales, but that wasn't a surprise. The boat was fine, not fancy but comfortable enough for a three hour animal watching trip. The crew seemed attentive to safety, warning people when they needed to hold on or remove small children from unsafe areas. Overall it was a good trip. The COVID precautions were probably as good as they could be except for one thing, which for me deducts a star from my rating. The Whale Watchers website said the crew would be masked, and a couple times I saw crew members who were not, which was upsetting. In one case a young woman was serving in the snack bar, inside and within six feet of customers, and she had her mask pulled under her nose. Given that coronavirus so often infects the nose that's the same as not wearing a mask at all. And when everyone was getting off the boat at the end of the trip, almost everyone masked, one of the older crew men was unmasked in the cabin and near me. Unsafe and very frustrating. Getting people to wear masks is hard enough without those in official positions setting the example that it's ok not to. It's a behavior that's heavily influenced by social cues. And Cape May Whale Watchers had promised its crew WOULD be wearing masks. I was happy that the captain stated firmly a couple times that everyone outside and within six feet of someone not in their party MUST wear a mask. That didn't always happen. Everyone came on board with a mask, but plenty of people took theirs off after we left the dock. I saw no attempt at enforcement, but I can understand that given the harsh reactions we've seen in the news. My daughter politely asked a woman right next to her if she would wear her mask. The woman said yes and then left her nose uncovered. Most people stayed outside most of the trip, and when we were moving the wind was strong, so I would imagine not much virus could reach from one person to another. And there were definitely fewer people aboard than capacity, so it was fairly easy to keep some distance from others most of the time. read more

They require reservations but I think if it's not a busy day, you can buy tickets there ($40 adults) but definitely give them a call. You can bring your own food which I highly recommend! We saw a lot of dolphins but no whales the day we went. However it was pretty cool to see a lot of the dolphins! The staff were all friendly and it was a relaxing boat/cruise ride. I had a wonderful time here. The crew was top notch and very friendly. We booked the cruise at 6:30, it includes free hot dogs and pizza. I thought the pizza would be crappy frozen squares that tasted like cardboard but it was real pizza brought in from an actual pizzeria. This ship is much nicer than the other I went on in a neighboring town. The interior has carpet and nice booths! For 49.95 you can get a prime rib cruise. That looked awesome although I didn't opt for that package. Our trip was 2 hours long and that was just enough. Other reviewers mentioned motion sickness and although I have issues with that, I never felt nauseous or anything at all. The captain points out interesting sites, the one you'll see is a real honest to god shipwreck at sunset beach. The Cape May light House was lovely and I got an education on the Ferry boats too. I got some great footage of a playful dolphin propelling himself out of the water too. You're free to move around on the ship and bring binoculars. If you go at night it can get chilly!! My husband and I have been on this cruise before and wanted to take our friend visiting us from Belfast Ireland on it, and it didn't disappoint! We saw a number of dolphins and a number of baby dolphins as well! The added bonus was the circle it made from its home base, up the Delaware Canal, into the Delaware Bay, around and along the city of Cape May and back to the home base, all the while giving interesting historical tidbits about things we saw. A wonderful way to spend some morning/afternoon time! The crew was wonderful, especially with all the schoolkids running around like they had a breakfast of caffeine and sugar! It seems that Covid is a joke to some of the staff. I was in the shop prior to going on the boat and the cashier not only wasn't wearing a mask, but made no enforcement of people coming in without them. She made it clear that she didn't believe in the concerns about Covid. The size of that shop means it's nearly impossible to have distance. Like many others, we were rained out so we didn't get on the boat. I've been on this trip previous to the pandemic and enjoyed myself a lot. Great Time!!!!! Very well run and organized. We went there for the 6:30 pm cruise and were instructed to arrive at 6:00 pm. My family and I got there around 5:45 pm and we had prime parking in their private free lot. It pays to get there early. Once on the ship if your having dinner your wait staff will escort you to your table that is set and has your first course waiting for you. My party consisted of 3 full price adults 2 children and 1 free child. FYI children 6 and under are free and if your having dinner they get pizza or hot dogs, soft drinks and an ice cream of their choice from the freezer. The Captain is very knowledgeable and the marine mammal watching was incredible. We all had a great time and the next time we're in Cape May we'll definitely do it again. read more
